Name: Tamaki Ane
Class: Fighter
Dragon Element: N/A
Age: 22
Born in: Nabata
Appearance: Tamaki is a slender, elegant woman standing at 5'10. She has deep chocolate eyes and messy brown hair that appears as if she had given up on brushing thoroughly. Her mouth has taken on a rather small shape fitting of her flat, serious expression that she gives constantly. Her eyebrows are sharp and tend to give the impression of a short temper and a no-nonsense attitude. Many attribute this to a tough girl persona, though the act is hardly fake. Her right ear is pierced with a small emerald earring trinket, though the jewelry is normally concealed under her tangled brown locks.
The fighter wears a neat white blouse under a red vest with pink trim. The tan sleeves of the garment only go up to the elbows, but the pink leather shoulder pads offer some form of protection. She wears a simple red skirt that goes almost to her knees and two long boots to cover the distance from upper calf to foot. The fine grooves on the bottom of the boots themselves appear to be well-suited for rough conditions such as sand or gravel rather than for grass, dirt, or other surfaces. To complete her appearance, Tamaki dons two metal gauntlet-like gloves to protect her hands from the metal handle of her axe. Small smoothed sapphires appear to be fixed into the palms of the gauntlets, though it is unclear if these are fake or not.
Personality: Tamaki is a stern and judging person, valuing strength above morals. Her demeanor can be seen as very driven and determined, though by no means nice. Though she never intends to come off as intimidating in some cases, her being serious can do just that. She speaks in very concise sentences with a rather flat tone and expression. Many of her decisions and preferences are often aligned with whatever option would be the most effective solution to one specific problem, leading some to see her as narrow-minded and dense. When in combat, her stoic nature transforms into blind fury and rage, where she can be rather emotional if pushed to a certain point. Morals are of no use to her, but she absolutely detests belittling and bullying.
Despite how solid Tamaki may seem, she has one dire fear: fire. Even the mere scent of a campfire is enough to put her on edge, while seeing a blaze close up could make her scream in absolute terror followed by curling up into a fetal position. She cannot even bring herself to hold a torch at night for fear of dropping it and catching herself on fire. When around a fire, Tamaki exhibits symptoms such as anxiety, restlessness, and even slight signs of paranoia when someone else is in possession of fire.
History: Tamaki Ane was born a beautiful baby girl to a jeweler couple after crossing the border from Lycia into Nabata. The family settled down near a village close by the border due to the proximity to the sea and the severe decrease in pirate presence compared to the northern coast. She grew up among the other village children with a tomboyish curiosity and zeal to her that never truly left after all the years. Though she did face a bullying problem for it, Tamaki was able to settle her own conflicts by herself through, well, returning the bullying twofold. Never a delinquent by any means, but certainly not a perfect child, Tamaki managed to get by on what power she had.
However, her confidence in the stability of her life came crashing down when she was only ten years old. After staying up late to snoop around her house with a candlestick, the young girl had rested down the candle after her inspections and went to bed. However, she never put the candle out. After being woken up in a rush, all she could remember was being dragged out of the house groggily by her terrified mother. The next morning, what remained of the Ane family discovered that Tamaki's father had perished in the flames trying to salvage the gemstones that he hid in a place under a floorboard. All that she had left to remember him was a small emerald that she had kept on a chain as a child. For months, the child was hopelessly despondent.
After seemingly disappearing from her childhood village and settling in the next town over with her widowed mother, guilt absolutely annihilated Tamaki's conscience and pride. The Nabatan felt entirely responsible for the blaze that had slain her father, and swore that she would sooner sever her hands than pick up even a candlestick again. The girl's extroverted nature had suddenly drawn in and refused to relax. Her mother, having coped with the death of her husband to an extent, grew tired of Tamaki's reluctance to socialize with the children of the new village. So, to motivate her to explore, Tamaki's mother had given her now 15 year old daughter three choices: being married to a suitor, moving on to make new friends, or finding work to help sustain them. Tamaki never found the appeal in any of these options. In response to this, she simply looked down at her palms and answered.
"...My hands were meant to destroy. Work it is."
With that, she quickly donned the attire of a true warrior. An axe was her weapon of choice, being blunt and heavy enough to keep her struggling when she needed to get stronger. Every practice swing was her own way of coping and whittled away at the innocence she tried to cling to until there was almost nothing left. Many of the other adolescents had seen her run off to train and referred to her as "the quiet girl with the axe", or "the boy in drag" teasingly. However, Tamaki made no effort to avoid confrontation. Most of her best training had come from fighting with these critics and knocking them onto their rears with the blunt end of the axe.
Years passed and Tamaki had grown into a young woman. Her precious emerald from her father had been adapted into an earring that she keeps covered from the sun, and her technique with an axe had become much more than simple swinging with all her might. The fighter now works as a mercenary by trade, technically fulfilling her mother's wish of a career by heading into battle with a battle axe and a fierce cry.
