Name: Danforth
Class: Mercenary
Age: 39
Born in: Santaruz, Lycia
Appearance: Danforth is tall, with a broad build and skin tanned from years of working in the fields of his family farm. Though he is fit and well-muscled, there is a layer of fat over top that gives him a charming, welcoming look. His hair is short but messy, easily distinguished from a distance by its unique green hue. He has a thick, wide nose and heavily lidded eyes that contrast with his mouth, which is almost always in a smile. He wears the plain, worn clothes of a farmer, with simple leather hunting gear overtop as makeshift armor.
Personality: Danforth is a simple man. He delights in the simple things, enjoying the hard work of caring for his farm and spending his days with his wife and young daughter. He’s honest, almost to a fault, and believes strongly in the concepts of justice and honor. He’s a pleasant and upbeat individual and quite friendly, but will stand his ground if challenged. It takes quite a lot to upset him, but beware Danforth when he is angry. When pushed to desperation, he will go to any length.
History: Danforth was born to a simple farmer and his wife in the rolling hills of the Santaruz province of Lycia. Much of his youth was spent either assisting his father in the fields, or getting up to trouble with his childhood friends and younger brother, Willem. His childhood passed him by until, at the age of seventeen, his father passed away unexpectedly, leaving Danforth in charge of the farm. His mother would pass a few years later, leaving the brothers to take care of each other. Fifteen years passed, and Danforth met the love of his life, Lily. The second daughter of a prestigious noble, the two first encountered each other when her father visited the farm. They hit it off almost instantly, and Lily visited the farm several more times before Danforth finally proposed and the two were soon wed. A year later, their daughter, Blossom, was born.
Life on the farm would eventually turn sour, however. With the ruling parties of Lycia struggling to deal with the monster crisis, numerous bandit gangs were emboldened to fill the power gap vacated by the all but absent Lycian nobles. One gang in particular, Durza’s Boys, led by the eponymous Durza, took to extorting Danforth and his family, claiming that as long as they paid the toll in gold coins every month, he and his gang would keep them safe from the other bandit gangs. And for a time, Danforth acquiesced to the bandit’s demands, tributing a hefty portion of his own profits. However, as the months passed, the toll grew steadily higher until, at last, they were unable to meet the required sum. Desperate to avoid the consequences of a missed payment, Danforth raced to the nearby village to sell off some of their livestock and make ends meet. But by the time he returned with the required sum, he was too late. Durza and his boys had come for their fee, and when they had found them lacking, they slaughtered the remaining animals and took both Lily and Blossom hostage. Danforth knew in that moment that the peaceful life he had always known was at risk, and if he didn’t take action now, both it and his family would be lost forever. He donned his brother’s old hunting gear, beat his ploughshare into a sword, and set out to seek aid for his daring quest...
