Alphonse stopped and turned around, dropping the sticks he was carrying. He held his staff reading for battle. He looked over at Shadow, seeing that he was doing the same. The rustle came from inside the trees again from where the priest had come from. A bandit, relatively high(taller than Alphonse) appeared from within the darkness of the forest, with his dagger drawn, and a wicked smile on his face. Soon other bandits appeared, Alphonse felt his adrenaline start to rush through his veins.
Five bandits stood in front of them: the one on the far left was a bit cloaked, and was hard to make out in the dark. The bandit next to him was a shorter, leaner man than the rest, had an even more wicked smile than the bandit in the middle, and was jabbing his dagger around in the air. The two other bandits on the right were both about average height: the one on the far right hand a beard, looked more muscular than the rest and had a seriously look on his face. The last of the bandits was an average looking man, but with a cold stair in his eyes, Alphonse wasn't too sure what to think of him.
Alphonse looked over at the shaman and whispered "What... what do we..." was all Alphonse could get out when the shorter one of the bandits charged them running at full speed, wailing around with his dagger, laughing like a mad man. "Gettin' a bit juppay, now aren't we?" said the bandit, laughing, in the middle of the five as he started to run forward too, along with the others following.

There was something that Shadow never told Alphonse. Something that Alphonse would have to figure out by himself. During his five years of traveling, he never spoke of any other companion along the way. That's because there were no other companions. He had no friends, no help. It was him and the wilderness. Now, being in such solitude for so long, one must keep some emotions to stay sane. That still didn't stop Shadow from getting a bit crazy in a fight.
Shadow looked back at Alphonse, slowly, only rotating his head a bit. He had his hood on, so Alphonse would have only seen his crazed smile. He then said to his priestly friend, "Time to take care of business, eh?" He then turned back to face the enemies. Five of them, actually. It was a group. The left he could tell was a Shaman. The two next to him were axe wielders, brigands. One was a thief, and the other... was something or another. Shadow would find out sooner or later.
The two groups stood there for a while, then the first move was made. Shadow suddenly started flipping the pages of the tome, while the one on the left did so as well, slower though. As Shadow let his magic forth, the two brigands charged. He was able to dodge the first one, but the second bandit that came at him got his arm. Shadow cringed in pain for a moment. That moment was enough for the Shamans attack to hit. Again, he was in pain, but he wasn't hurt to badly. His resistance to magic helped him a lot right there.
Shadow saw the thief, the one he was aiming at. The pickpocket was on all fours, gasping for breath. It was a pity they didn't have anyone to heal them. Shadow then turned back to Alphonse. He was hoping that he wouldn't get hurt in this skirmish.

Alphonse was struck with an incomprehensible fear when Shadow looked at him with vicious smile. Alphonse watched as four of the bandits attacked him. Should I do something? What Can I do? I'm only priest! I must do something... Alphonse heard a rip as one of the mens axes slashed through Shadows robe. The priest shook his head and and examined what was going on; One of the men with an axe had turned around and faced Shadow while the other that had attacked Shadow apparently missed him was now charging for him. Alphonse held up his, ready for the man. The bandit a large battle cry as he swung his large axe. Alphonse let hi staff slip though his hands until he was grasping the end of it, he then bent down and gave a large swing at his legs.
There was a loud snap as the staff met his shin, the bandit stumbled and did a front flip, landing on his head with a loud snap, crunch. Alphonse turned around to see that the cloaked man behind Shadow flipping through his book. A shaman! "Shadow!" Alphonse yelled as he held up his staff. Alphonse lit up with a great yellowish-white light, making the night seem as if it were day.

Shadow turned himself around, flinching from the light. Even though it healed him, it partially blinded the other bandits. Now, there was the thief, shaman, brigand, and the other one. All of them, rubbing their eyes, trying to regain their sight. Shadow, being that he turned away from the light, could still see. He opened his tome, and casted Flux on the brigand. It was a direct hit, and it sent him on his side. Shadow casted it a second time, killing off the bandit.
Shadow suddenly had an idea. He jumped into the thicket, where it was hard to see. As he was preparing an attack, he heard one of them shout, "Ehh?! Where'd he go? Find that demon!" As one of the bandits were shouting, Shadow casted Flux again, hitting the thief. It killed him, as Shadow could see the thief's chest collapse, with a sickening crunch. Now, the two last bandits were looking in the trees, seemingly forgetting that there as a priest right in front of them. But Alphonse had no need to worry. Shadow had a plan.

Alphonse watched, panting quietly, as Shadow jumped into the bushes. The remainders of the group went after him, searching through the bushes. Alphonse slowly and quietly moved around the two men, trying to sneak up from behind them and catch them by surprise. The priest kept his eyes locked on the two. Suddenly, the shaman looked up at Alphonse. Crap! How did he know I was here!? The shaman opened his book and flipped though his pages, Alphonse, not knowing what to do, charged the shaman. Oddly, in the middle of all this, the last remaining bandit was still looking franticly through the trees and bushes for Shadow.

Oddly enough, Alphonse's actions went beautifully with Shadow's plan. He was waiting in the darkness, waiting for one of them to get close enough to kick. The priest's attack forced the shaman too close to the shadows, which gave Shadow the perfect opportunity to kick him. He did, and his kick, landed right in between the shoulder blades. It also made the enemy shaman crash into the ground, hurt badly. Shadow finished him off with a single casting of Flux. He saw the darkness consume, kill, then leave the man. Shadow was always amazed by the power of his magic. It was terrifying, and at the same time, to him, satisfying.
Now, all that was left was the last, different bandit. He was diffidently something more than the other four. Perhaps he was stronger, or the leader. Maybe it was the way he stared you down, with those cold eyes. Shadow let him be, quietly, walking toward Alphonse. He then asked in a hushed voice, "You okay?"

Alphonse watched as Shadow beat down the other shaman. Something about this shaman was different, he couldn't put his finger on it. He then remembered when Shadow kicked him and how he gave a loud yelp, or rather she. A women... Alphonse thought to himself as he watched the shaman's body below him be consumed with dark magic.
Alphonse jerked when Shadow asked his question. "Oh, well..." Alphonse felt his arm, it was wet. When I tried to dodge him... I guess I wasn't fast enough... The priest looked up at the last-man-standing. He had turned toward them, staring into Alphonse, feeling the cold blade of his stare stab his heart. Slowly, the man started towards them...

Shadow stepped between Alphonse and the Bandit. Now, he finally got a good look at the guy. He was no ordinary brigand. He was a bandit to say the least. He was stronger, taller, and with his Hand Axe that he gripped in his hand, Shadow also saw a jagged looking sword. Shadow knew this one would be quicker than the others. Now, this would probably be the hardest fight of all.
The bandit started, throwing his Hand Axe at Shadow. As it spun at him, he tried to dodge by ducking. It worked, thankfully. Shadow then sent forth a fury of dark magic. It came up from beneath the bandit's feet, tearing at his flesh. It was a hit, and it was obvious that the attack was a success. However, the bandit was still up and running, ready to kill.
He looked back at Alphonse, with a more serious face. He said grimly, "You have my back, right?" Shadow was fine on health right now, but he might not be in a few seconds. If this guy did get a good whack into Shadow, he would need some kind of help.

OoC: Sorry for the short post, didn't know what to say or do . IC:Alphonse planted his staff in the ground and nodded at Shadows question. He watched as the injured bandit continued to charge for them. I'm sure that Shadow can take care of him... I hope...

Shadow saw the bandit charge him. Instead of wielding the Hand Axe, it was the sword this time. To the looks of it, it was just an Iron Sword. This did not change the fact that the bandit was still coming at him with it.
The bandit, charging, took a swing with the sword he had. Not even Shadow was fast enough to dodge something like that. Yet, even when he was on his knees, trying to persevere through the pain, he was sending an attack of his own. It was Flux, and it hit again. His hard-hitting blow also brought the enemy to his knees. Now, it was obvious that the bandit was dealing with some serious pain. Shadow took this opportunity to end the skirmish here and now. If he died, how would Alphonse get the help he needed. Once again, someone was relaying on him. He would not make the same mistake he did five years ago.
As Shadow was preparing to send his dark attack, he used all his strength, fueled by his undying anger, and other powerful emotions stored inside all this time. It could be seen that a dark seal was surrounding Shadow as he prepared his attack. He knew what it was. It was explained to Shadow long ago, in the school of dark arts he once attended. The seal meant he was preparing an attack at full power, and it would take a master of magic to survive such a barrage of power. And this 'barrage of power' was about to be unleashed upon the bandit. The attack was fast and lethal. As the darkness unclosed upon the victim, the energy could be felt from the attack. Almost every bone in the bandits body must have been broken.
As Shadow witnessed his full extent of power being displayed and used upon the bandit, he feinted. He collapsed from exhaustion. Such power could take a lot out of magic users. this was no different for Shadow, especially with a huge gash just above his stomach. Now, Shadow could rest for a while. Just a little while...

"Shadow!" yelled Alphonse as he rushed to his side. He looked down at the shamans wounds, which seemed to be nonfatal as long as they're treated. Alphonse help up his staff and a flash of light cam from the top of it and surrounded the nearby forest. Alphonse looked down at his own wound and did the same. Alphonse took a sigh and dropped to his knee's, "Finaly..." he said, out of breath. He looked at the shaman, who was quite out-of-it, and his wounds. Alphonse nodded and checked himself: they were both fine.
The priest looked down at where the women, the shaman, had been consumed by Shadow's dark magic: there was nothing but a scorch mark left on the earth that even hinted the existence of her. Alphonse swayed a bit, and fell to the ground.
She reminds of why I'm out here... what my purpose is...

It was a little while before Shadow came-to. He felt a bit dizzy, groggy, even. He then sighed, just for lying there, content. As Shadow looked up into the sky, remembered that he was just in a battle. A battle that he got a nasty cut from on his chest...
Shadow sprang forward in fear. He felt around his chest. No pain came to him what-so-ever. He then unbuttoned his cloak, and then lifted up his shirt. Not a mark where his cut was. All he saw was that scar. Shadow laughed lightly to himself. He remembered the healers that day. They did wonders to his body, but they couldn't prevent the scar. Images of his mother bounced in and out of his thoughts. His dear, kind mother.
Looking around, Shadow put down his shirt. As he buttoned the top part of his cloak back up, he saw Alphonse to his side. He was also lying down in the grass. Shadow decided to get some facts straight, and nudged him. He then said to Alphonse, "Hey, you okay?"

Something started to shake Alphonse, he did not want to wake. He rolled over and grunted, lighting his head up and then having it fall to the ground with a thud. Alphonse this time, got up on his knees and looked over at Shadow, trying to remember last night. Slowly the thoughts came to him, maybe not very clearly, but he could feel them there.
Alphonse looked up at the sky. "Almost morning..." Alphonse mumbled. The priest looked over to Shadow and smiled, not really knowing why, maybe he was just happy he was alive.

"Is it?" Shadow asked, with a tired sort of voice. He stifled a yawn as he got up. Now, that the grogginess went away, it was easier to focus. Now Shadow could see what the dark figures on the ground were. He raised both eyebrows in a mild surprised manner.
Shadow had been in many fights. Not many of those fights had such a strange look. From a normal person's perspective, this would be a place where a group of very tough people were slaughtered. Shadow would call this, 'taking care of business.' and by the looks of it, he really did.
Now, hopefully, Alphonse could stand the sight. Granted, it wasn't pretty by any means. But still, Shadow didn't want to have to carry Alphonse out of this area.

Alphonse stood up, slightly stumbling, and raised his arms up, yawning. He rubbed his eye's and looked down at the scene. Alphonse took in a large breath and started hacking and coughing. Not very pleasant... The priest eyed Shadow up and down, to see if he was injured at all. He seems okay. Alphonse looked over to the east, where the sky was become brighter at every moment. "We should get moving while its still twilight, I'm sure we can get something to eat later," Alphonse said to Shadow looking down at the ground in a drowsy voice.
