The death of Hargus was something Kraft did not notice. Living in his golden cage, out of fear and paranoia, he became more and more detached from the real world. His power grew, oh, it grew. His might knew no bounds and eventually all of Etruria was his, just like the vast armies he now had under his command. Delfia was now the city of Zealotry, and it hosted one of the most mythical figures in the entire known world; the Prophet.
Kraft had been working around the clock during those five years, trying to expand his power, preaching a holy crusade. Word has it, that after five years, he had made so much money from the Soul Notes, that he could possibly the richest man in the world. His armies, consisting of peasants, zealots, priests, trained soldiers and mercenaries, marched through Etruria and succeeded in cornering the previous Ruler somewhere in the Northern part of Etruria, where he hid with a small army of infidels.
Delfia was growing, all over the lands people came to this capital to get a view on Kraft, who only showed him on rare occasions, such as the birthday of Saint Elimine, or the day of her death. People vowed to avenge her and prayed for her soul. Pilgrims collected money for the Good Cause; the Holy war that would soon begin. An army of apostles would wash over the lands, like a flood, and will cleanse every land, river and mountain of heretics and savage murderers. The world was in Chaos and only Elimine's and Kraft's doctrine could show the people the True Light. Delfia had become a booming city, with the arrival of so many pilgrims, but it had also become liveable again. Executions didn't happen all that often anymore, because everyone in Etruria had been converted by now. The rest of the world watched.
The High Inquisitor, Kraft, had sent agents all over the world, trying to convert men and women, children and the old. Sacae seemed to be a particulary tough region to convert. Kraft blamed it on their savage way of living and generations of worshipping some stupid rock or whatnot. He dreamed of a world united under one flag; his own, with Elimine to back him up. Soldiers bowed for him and people even deeper. Soon, he thought, kings and queens, generals and ministers will bow for him. They will kneel for him and beg him to kiss his feet. He was the Prophet, he was the bringer of Hope and Light and nothing, absolutely nothing will go wrong. He had Elimine on his side.
Meanwhile the Herald was still his loyal watchdog, who signed documents for him and held speeches for the masses. People would listen to the Prophet's teachings, as told by the Herald and they would rejoice, because they knew their saviour was right there, in that castle. Kraft had now begun with attaching some new teachings to Elimine's book. They were called the 'Attachements' and told the epic story of Kraft who became the Prophet of Elimine after her unfortunate death by some heretics. He vowed to avenge her, but so far he did not have much luck in that. One day, he knew, he would find these man and he would kill them.
The incident in the harbour, five years ago, was closed and noone dared talking about it; it was a disgrace that the enemy had done so much damage. The bodies were examined and were researched. The results are classified. For the High Inquisitor's eyes only. Some special elites are still researching this.
Meanwhile, Kraft's health has become nightmarish. He walks slowly and his throat is always coarse. Years of drinking had made him feeble and he needs long naps. He has grown old and frail and stopped shaving. He now has a long beard, making him look like another person. He and Hiro, a skilled thief who helped Kraft driving the previous Ruler out of Delfia, still have a lot to discuss. Kraft believes that Hiro will be the key to finding the cowardly murderers of Saint Elimine.
May the Prophet be blessed, and may the Crusades be a succes. Saint Elimine wants it.
