Wein guided his horse up to the corpse. "Whoever mangled those bodies probably gets some sort of a rise out of senseless carnage," said Wein, pausing and looking around for something. He didn't know what. "Whoever that may be, I see no way for us to know, but it may have been left here as a warning to us. If that's the case, we're being hunted by something or someone. I'd suggest we get out of here as fast as possible."

"But here.." Wyatt said pointing to the chest of one of the bandits. "Tearing and ripping, too rough for a sword or an axe, looks more like a fang or claw. The ground may be rocky, but Yaen is right, not even a hint of tracks...this is weird."
He cupped his chin in his hand as he spoke outloud.
"Something was here, that either was an animal, or was made to look like it was an animal. I'd guess the latter...but why even bother doing that? It doesn't seem like it has a purpose."
He looked about at the crags and cliffs that could form an ambush.
"I think we should get off this mountain."

"Thats true, these do look like claw marks." Yaen agreed. "But still, even a rabid animal would take have taken a chunk of flesh with it...So perhaps whoever did this fashioned a weapon from a beasts fangs..." The Sacaen looked up. "Or theres something worse than a man or animal on this mountain..." He then rose to his feet. "I agree. Lets get off this mountain and quickly, before we find out just what did this."

Malachi starred down at a clawed and mangled bodies with a straight face as he approached it. He kneeled down next to one; the body was on its stomach, with his head twisted, both his legs missing and most of his arms gone. He also had a large clawed contusion on his left side of his torso. He listened to the others talk of what could of done all this and that they should keep moving. Malachi got back up and glanced over his shoulder at Wyatt as he was looking up into the ghostly mountains. Malachi looked back down at the body and the ground surrounding it.
Malachi took his book and flipped over the body. He examined his face, which he was surprised to see. It looked as though his entire face had been broken, all of his features were smashed inward, as if he had been dropped. Looking back up at the mountains he realized what Wyatt (and now Yaen) were getting to. Malachi got up and started down the trail as he said loudly,"Lets get moving."
OoC: Currently where is everybody in the group? Already I'm confused.

Lilith appeared from behind a rock, her face quite green. It was apparent that she had just retched. "To kill is one thing, but to dismember and destroy a body like this... it is inhuman! This can't have been done by people..." she wondered. She looked at the corpses, examining where they had been ripped open. "There's no blood. Maybe whatever animal did this feeds on blood? Or maybe it was already dust be the time they got there.... Perhaps my mind is running wild with the dark tales and legends of the past..." she sighed, scrolling through her tome.

Aaron took in the bloody scene quietly. He had never scene such a mess. If he was one with a weak stomach, he would be off throwing up over the cliffside.
Skirting the mess, making sure he didn't drag his cloak through the blood, he had a strange thought. With this lighting, and the grim picture before us, it reminds me of some of the various "monster and hero" fables I read while growing up. He put that thought away as a delusion of his over-active mind.
Agreeing with Malachi, that it was time to get moving, Aaron matched the knight's pace, and followed, a step behind and to the left. He touched the fire tome inside his bag unconsciously.

A dark look spread across Wein's face. "If it isn't a man, and it isn't a beast, the only thing that leaves is a..." said Wein before stopping mid sentence. He shook his head. "No way, what are the odds..." He set his horse off after Malachi. "But if that is the case, then we're dead no matter how fast we move. Let's just hope we can get off before whatever it is gets us." He turned his head towards the others. "Just remember to keep your eyes open for any sudden movements."

Denzel kept his mouth closed because the sight of all this made him feel like throwing up. As tried to calm himself a question popped in his mind. Say that there is something on this mountain... Those bandits still managed to build their fortress here and the roaad leading to it, or however was here before them. So is it new to this place? Did it follow us (or perhaps one of our new companions here) here? Did the smell of blood lead him here. Denzel refused to believe that their own presence here was merely a coincidence. With that thought he too quickened his pace, shooting paranoid looks at their surroundings as he rode.

Selk said nothing else on the matter. It didn't matter what had and what hadn't torn up these bodies. They needed to get away from whatever it was as swiftly as possible. Something or someone vicious enough to mangle a body after it was already dead....that took a truly messed up person. And a dangerous one, too. When he heard Sir Malachi call for them to leave, he immediately raised up and started following.

Lilith had already moved forward with Denzel, not wishing to look at the bodies any longer. She knew her magic was not very strong yet, and whatever had done this must have been a powerhouse... She wanted to get away from this place.
She walked a bit faster than the others, trying to keep up with Denzel's horse. She tried to keep her mind wandering away from the scene, thinking about her home, her training, and her future.

Malachi continued walking forward, looking form left to right, up and down the fog-drenched mountains. He could feel the cool mist hitting his face, the water droplets gathering in his beard in his beard. A cool breeze swept down from the mountain and brushed up against his hair. Malachi looked up toward the craggy mountains, examining the cracks and crevices moving along the mountainside. Malachi could fell a small fear growing inside of him, the longer he looked at the mountains, the more they became intimidating. He continued to stare at the mountains, going deep into his thoughts. He flet a drop of sweat run down his cheek, his pupils started to dilate.
Malachi heard Selk run up behind and he fell back into consciousness. He turned his back to Self and said "I guess we're taking up the front," Malachi said to a kind but official voice, pointing his lance to his left, offering Selk to walk beside him. Malachi took one last look at the mountains, and then continued forward.

OOC: I have nothing planned, and it seemed to slow down. So I'm moving us to arrival at Laus. Do support conversations if you wish them.
IC: It had been a few days of travel, but they had arrived back in Laus without incident. Arriving at the city, the group seemed to be in high spirits. Food, drink, and a bed at last.
Wyatt stretched his arms and released his pack for a moment as they passed the first row of outlying farm houses. "Oh wow, we're back...so does that mean we're successful adventurers or something?" He aimed that question at Aaron, since he became aware that only he, Aaron and Lilith qualified as real 'adventurers'. Denzel, Malachi and Selk were knights, or in training. Wein and Yaen seemed experienced in the ways of the world already, but wait...
Both Lilith and Aaron had traveled from Erturia. So he was STILL the most inexperienced person here, unbelievable!

Wein, picking up on Wyatt's question, not realizing it wasn't aimed at him, smiled. "I'd say it does. Not only did you go on an adventure, but you came back alive. That's the most important part, anyways. What good is an adventure if it kills you? Hah!" Wein ended with a laugh, but then looked away and frowned. What was that up on that mountain? He had hoped his days of getting involved in craziness like that was at and end. Nevertheless, he'd try to keep that out of his mind and enjoy himself as they got back to Laus. His limbs were starting to feel better already.

OoC: Actually Wyatt, Aaron was trained locally, in Lycia (a family member). I'll check to make sure that it's on my profile. Of course, it did just occur to me that Wyatt may not know that IC...
IC:
Aaron walked along the road, and watched the small farmhouses slowly crawl by. Wyatt and Wein were talking about their trip up into the mountains. The mage recalled why he had gone; to visit some of the places he and his father had gone camping. He was amused at how the trip had changed rapidly from a stroll down memory lane, to fighting a bandit raiding party. The world was a dangerous place. In hindsight, it was probably a good thing that he had found a group to join up with.
"I'd have to say that was the most excitement I've ever been in. I've never really had a hostile encounter before... My teacher was always there to ward off the danger." Aaron recalled the elderly man... his grandfather.
Aaron had left his studies in order to build up some experience of his own. He couldn't always be relying on others.

Lilith smiled and added to the conversation. "Adventurers? Sure, i made it here from Erturia, but I took main roads and traveled with caravans... Anyway, I never really had a battle before this. I've only been in controlled training sessions between my fellow pupils, though I occasionally was pitted against a student of anima or light magic. I have to say that I did not relish fighting, but, it is the only way to get stronger, so If I have to do it, I will!" she smiled. She looked around the room and thought of how fortunate she was to have met such and interesting and friendly group of fighters... But she would have liked to have one or two fellow girls in the group too... She took a sip of her drink and listened to the babble of talk around her.
