Achaziah smirked at the conversation going on between the three. He stood up and walked over to the bar, handing the bartender a coin for a glass of water. That was all he really needed right now. He calmly sat back down in his chair and stared into his glass, sipping it every now and then. He kept his ears locked on the words of the three people at the table next to him.

"Geezz calm down lady. I wasn't trying to be mean, it doesn't matter how much training you've had you're still a squire right?" Hal turned to Kessel. "How do you know he wouldn't help me become stronger. If you want to better yourself you might as well practice and train with somebody clearly better then you in all aspects." It seemed as if his bluff was working with these two better then the other guy.

She hadn't meant to interrupt. It had been nearly 2 years since Love last visited the nation of Bern and she hadn't remembered every detail of the proper manners there. Back in Etruria, all you had to do was pay your respect to the bishop (although most did not recognize her as dark magic user because she always put on her old traditional monk robe when she visited). Here however, Love was lost among the strong fighters Bern was made of.
The girl felt confused as she snuck her way around town, eventually ending up upon a place where several people were arguing. Staring at them felt impolite to Love so she resorted to hiding behind something that hid most of her and watched. After all, observation is a keen tactic to have when you're trying to figure out which army you could better yourself in.

"Why am I even arguing about this with you?" Kessel mumbled. Remembering his ale in hand, he took another swig. "Look, you could spend the rest of your life searching for Alan and not find him. Don't worry about it for now." He turned back to his food and Sarah. "Now, if you'll please excuse me, I was in the middle of dinner and talking with Miss Dulcimer." He then carelessley tossed back over his shoulder, "And I'll see you tomorrow morning."

Sarah shot a rather childish smirk at Hal. "There's no reason to go gallivanting around, searching for ghosts, anyway. If you want to be a wyvern knight, the best teachers in all of Elibe are right here, in Bern. Honestly, you should be quite grateful to Sir Kessel for even considering you!" she said, her tone high and mighty. She toyed with a glass, unsure of whether to hazard a drink. She reached over and poured herself a modest amount and took a sip. She tried to smirk through the unpleasant taste, resulting in a somewhat frightening grimace.

Hal had started to laugh at Sarah, it wasn't a light type of laughing. He had to catch his breath before he could speak. "Girl, you haven't heard anything about Alan have you? I know some men who trained with Alan and he was the best there ever was back then too, a few of my bud's said they were at the assault on the Bandit King's castle. They said Alan and some nomad killed Hartmut before fighting the bandit king. Even if the stories were exaggerated the point is he was in the places and fought even if it was for a little bit. He's the most known Wyvern Knight in the world, even thought he's a wanted man it does take skill to stay alive and free if a whole country is after you."
Hal stormed away after that. Sarah was her name? She was completely ignorant thinking that Kessel was better then Alan, hell he never heard of the man till he introduced himself. Them soldiers, when they spoke of Alan a few sounded like they feared him still.

As he watched Hal storm off like he did, Achaziah only shook his head and got up from his seat, pushing his chair in. He said nothing to either of the two sitting at the other table. He gave a partial bow and a nod in their direction and then went after Hal.
"Hal....hold on a minute." He paused, hoping that Hal would at least stop and listen for a moment. If he did stop, then Achaziah would continue his words.
"If you run away at the first sign of resistance or difficulty, then the life of a soldier isn't for you. I know I sound harsh, but it's the truth. Do you honestly think Alan would train you like this? Angrily and hastily stomping away from a conversation you don't agree with like a pampered child? Stop acting so foolhardy. I don't know you very well, so I don't know what you want to do with your life, but if you want to be a soldier you have to act like one."

OoC: The black is harder to read against the dark blue background x.x
BiC:Hal turned back and stopped. "One who knows nothing understands nothing! Alan will train me when I do find him. It's not foolhardy, or acting like a pampered child. It's determination, I'm not going to let what they say stop me from being the best. If I'm running away to prove a point, then so be it." Hal had turned and kept on his path, along the way he past by Love without noticing her and went out the door to the outside.

OOC: Even though it's the same thread, it's now two separate conversations. Plus, I want to keep the thread moving when I can.
IC:
Achaziah sighed again and kept pace with Hal. He wasn't done talking to the young man just yet. "That wasn't the point I was trying to convey at all, but it doesn't matter now anyway. Don't you think you should use the resources you have here and now, Hal? Sir Kessel may not be as skilled or as well-known as Alan, but right now he's willing to train you. And finding someone like Alan....who whole nations can't even find....well....you're going to need help for that. I'm not saying you can't do it. I'm saying that the path to get there is going to be difficult, very difficult. It would be in your best interest to train and learn what you can on the way, otherwise you'll end up unable to complete the journey at all."
He paused for a moment and took a deep breath, "Hal, I'm willing to help you look for Alan, but in exchange you have to gather all the skills and knowledge you can during our search. That includes training with Sir Kessel at least once. I can tell you don't like him or that girl, but they may end up as valuable allies."

Hal stopped in his tracks. "They doubt me. How can I put my trust in a man who doubts me? Trust and respect is a two way street, it's not given it's earned. If you demand it you must give it freely before you do so. That's why I'm willing to allow you to help me, you're understanding and believe in a 'child's dream' no matter how far fetched it sounds." Hal sighed. "Plus who says they're willing to help me in my quest? Why don't you go speak to them then?"

OoC: Gave Sarah enough to time to get on and post, so.... and btw, is Hal dense and have selective hearing? Cuz I thought I dropped enough hints to say I was gonna train him...
IC: Kessel tried to get back into a good mood after talking with Hal. "He's taking his 'playing' at being a soldier a little too far," he thought to himself. Seriously, what was the kid's problem? All he was saying was that if Alan's the best, why would he train a raw recruit? "Hal just needs to stay here for a bit, learn the lay of the land, so to speak. After that..." After that, Hal could go do whatever he wanted. He wouldn't let the boy go off and get himself killed.
Looking back at his plate Kessel realized that his appetite was gone. He sighed as he pushed back his chair and stood up. "Sorry Sarah, but I'm not in the mood to continue. Come see me anytime for training or if you want to talk." He then set a small bag of coins on the table. "This should cover my bill plus some extra for you. Night." That done, he made his way to the door.
As he was about to open the door and step out, he heard Hal and his companion talking on the other side.
Once Hal had stopped talking, Kessel opened the door and revealed himself. With an annoyed look on his face, the wyvern rider said, "You preach about respect being a two-way street, yet you are unwilling to respect me just because I don't agree with you?" He snorted. "And besides, I never said Alan wouldn't train you. Just not as you are now, squire." He emphasized the word squire, seeing as how it seemed Hal was getting too full of himself.
"As for helping you out...Squire Hal Kalias, I am Kessel Roarn, Wyvern Rider of the Bern chapter of the Ilian Army. The soldier assigned to train you in the art of wyvern riding."

OoC: You're not worthy enough to train him in his mind. He was forced to 'grow up' to help provide for his family so he'll act like a little kid from time to time.
BiC: "You don't disagree with me, you doubt me. You said I wouldn't ever find him and get him to train me. Now you're trying to belittle me by adding squire in before my name." Hal had felt like decking the guy now. Since he clearly knew who he was why didn't he say it before or try to catch him alone.
Hal was trying to go use the fact he was a rider as an intimidation factor to the stranger at first just in case, since Kessel and him had started off of the wrong foot if Achaziah tried anything Kessel may not help Hal out now. If Kessel was going to help Achaziah and Hal search for Alan, he kinda hoped Sarah would come along as well, so he could prove her wrong.

Love had seen enough. It was obvious that Bern was NO place for someone like her. The arguing, the "strength-ness-looking", it was all too much. If Love wound up here, she would get laughed at. Or worse, killed because the people thought she was too much of a nuisance. Nope. It was clear and simple. No way could she girl approach the men and the girl (or well, she seemed more like a woman to Love) without turning red and them laughing and telling her to get lost.
Sighing and looking devastated, Love turned away and began to wander off. This was no place for a young mage to stay. She needed to go back to her home. . .

OOC: Sorry for the lack of posting. Wasn't really sure what to do.
IC: Sarah's face fell as Kessel left her. She grabbed the money and went to pay their bill. It was late. Sarah knew that when her brothers kept her waiting this long, they were probably going to stay out for the night. She hated it when they did that, and now she felt lonely again. But she didn't really know anyone in town, besides them and Alther. Well, and Kessel, but he seemed tired. Although...he HAD said she could see him any time she wanted to talk...but she didn't want to seem a nuisance...but then again...
Sarah stood next to her table, contemplating. She'd been told several times not to make a bother of herself, but she couldn't help it. She liked to talk to people. And those two men were intriguing. Sarah thought for a moment. Maybe she'd been a little harsh on them. Or not, it didn't matter. She was going to introduce herself properly.
Sarah opened the door out of the tavern, ready to run off after Hal and Achaziah, only to find them not very far away, with Kessel surprisingly next to them. A smile flew across her face. "I believe we got off on the wrong foot!" she said jovially. Sarah walked over to the two men and gave them a deep and graceful curtsy, or at least as much as one could be in full armor. "I am Sarah, squire, and student of honorable Sir Alther." she said grandly. She stood up straight and smiled. "If I may ask a little question? How do you intend to find this Alan of yours?"

What Sarah had said struck Kessel. "Damn, I sound like such prick." The wyvern rider sighed before running a hand through his hair. "I'm sorry. She's right Hal, we got off on the wrong foot." He gave a weak smile. "I'm also probably a little drunk."
Kessel squared his shoulders and extended his hand with a small smile. "Nice to meet you Hal. Name's Kessel, your assigned mentor - if you'll take me. I'd also like to know how you intend to find Alan."
OoC: My laptop battery is about to die, but I got the important part posted. Thanks for waiting.
