Denzel's opponent sprung at him with dangerous velocity holding his arms in front of him. Seeing no opportunity to drive his sword past the things defense Denzel got out of the way and aimed to cut into the things neck as it past him. The creature striked out with his talons as soon as he landed though and struck Denzel in his hands.
Denzels sword dropped out of his bleeding hands after making only small cut on the monster. Then Denzel felt the creature's other arm hitting his head.
Lightheaded the cavalier hit the earth again. As he tried to look around his shining sword got his attention. Taking big steps the monster approached him again. I gotta make this count Raising himself up with one of his hands he grabbed his cloak with another and threw it off of him at the beast. It raised one of it's arms to get the obscuring object out of the way and raised one of his feet to take another step.
Now! Denzel rolled under the creature only just ovoiding getting his throat crushed by it's feet and reached his sword. When the beast turned around looking for it's prey Denzel brandished his sword and aimed to drive it into the things head.

Yaen having made an opening, Wein took the arrow he was holding, notched it, and loosed it into the beast. The hummed through the air and into the beast's neck, thought it didn't seem to cause the monster to do more than flinch. Wein stepped back and notched another arrow, aiming for the creature's eye. "You make it sound like I could predict that giant evil dogs would attack us!" shouted Wein back to Yaen. "This isn't really something one can expect."

Wyatt managed to strike true with his axe, finishing off the creature Wein had injured earlier. He attempted to pull his axe from it's corpse, but found it quite stuck.
"Aaron! Cover me while I get my axe back!" He called, putting a foot on the thing and pulling hard to yank it out. There was another creature approaching, growling as it stalked.
It seemed the tide of battle turned in their favor, as Denzel and Wein both landed grievous blows on their opponents. Wein's aim had been true, piercing the relativly soft eye of the creature, which fell down with a low growl. It was still alive, how he couldn't say, but it was out of the fight.
Denzel had gotten lucky to an extent, his sword piercing flesh and drawing a splatter of dark blood. However, his muscles were not strong enough to pierce the bone of it's skull, and the creature continued to growl and snap at him, albeit with much less ferocity.
They might still survive this.

Aaron grabbed his Fire tome and scrambled to his feet as the beast stumbled off of him, ignoring the burning spots on his face. Adrenaline coursed through his body as he saw Wyatt's axe bring the creature down. He heard the creature howl in pain, and a fairly recent memory stirred in the back of his mind. Another time when he had heard that cry.
Aaron heard Wyatt and responded, though he was in a bit of a panic at the moment. "Right!" He managed to pull himself together enough to cause a ball of flame to coalesce in the space in front of him, and once he did that the world seemed to calm around him. It was simply that he had focused on the task at hand.
The fireball arced upward into the air, its light revealing the monster in all of its hideous ferocity, before crashing down on the one approaching himself and Wyatt. When the flames splashed over the monster it yelped briefly before turning back towards them, growling even more angrily.
Alarm threatened to break Aaron's concentration. Sure, the fire had been hot, but the creature seemed to have ignored the pain for the most part. Most animals would flee at the mere appearance of fire, yet this one still was intent on it's hunt.
The mage looked up when he noticed the night seemed brighter. The trees above were burning he realized. They must've caught when my fireball passed through them.

Dark blood splattered all over Denzel's face and white armor. The beast let out a huge wail and tried to push the sword out with his arms, it's talons scratching against the blade as he tried to get a hold of it properly. Denzel did he best to drive it further into the creature's head but was awarded with swift kick in the stomach when the beast figured out what was the opposing force.
Denzel fell to his knees grabbing his stomach and heard his sword clattering on the ground next to him. As Denzel took out one of his Vulenary's to restore himself a little he felt more blood coming down on him. As he looked up the creature, still more occupied with communicating his pain to everyone else in the vicinity through loud cries he made clear signs that he was going to drop soon. Not wanting to be crushed underneath a body much bigger then him again the cavalier grabbed his sword and jumped out of the way.

Yaen staggered back from the wounded beast. "It's a devil." he muttered, staring in awe at the still-breathing monster. "It doesn't look like it has any fight left in it." he commented, looking up to the archer. "We should check on the others, see how they are fairing."

Wein nodded. "Right, I wouldn't be surprised if there were more where these came from," he said, plodding off towards the others. It ached, but the sharp pains were gone. Sniffing the air, Wein smelled something burning. He looked up to see the trees on fire. "Uh, Yaen," he said, turning to the Sacaen and pointing to the burning greenery, "the forest is on fire."

Yaen looked up to where Wein was pointing. "...Why so it is..." he replied. Looking back at the archer, he gave a pleasant smile. "So...Shall we run for our lives?" He offered in a polite, calm, good natured tone.

"Most definitely," Wein replied. He looked back towards the others. They couldn't just leave them, though. "All of you, look up! The trees are on fire! We've got to get out of this forest," he shouted. "There's no point in killing these beasts only to be roasted alive!" Wein made a dash for his horse. He'd be able to carry more people on it. As he ran, however, he was ambushed from the side by another creature, pinning him to the ground. Wein struggled with the beast, trying to push it off of him. He did not need this right now.

Wyatt had finally succeeded in freeing his axe, and turned with a vicious spinning slash...only to miss as the creature jumped backwards, but then snapped forward. Wyatt jumped back, but was a little too slow and got a cut across his brow. All things considered, it could have been much worse. Lucky him.
"There's no way we can outrun a pack of wolves!" He shouted to Wein over his shoulder. Besides...if they ran...that would be leaving those travelers to their deaths. Sure running was safer, but Wyatt didn't leave home to be safe. Wyatt was not a religious man, but he'd heard sermons in his home from priests passing through. He recalled one, an old prayer from the time of the Scouring that seemed fitting.
"The crimson flames fail against the skin of the brave!" He called out, and aimed to take the wolf he had missed earlier, wounded as it was, one on one beneath the flaming branches.
The wounded wolves all remained, it seemed they had no intention of retreating. Though no new wolves came after the one that tackled Wein, the remaining fought ferociously. By the campfire, the swordsman screamed loudly as a wolf dug into his arm, falling over on to the ground as the wolf went to finish the job.

Despite the fact that Selk could hear the words of his comrades, none of it even registered with him. He was laying, struggling, underneath one of these beasts. On top of that was the fact that the trees around them were now crackling with flames. So...this is another one of those times. I can feel the breath of this thing on my face and the heat of the flames all around. Near death experiences.... I'm beginning to wonder if fighting like this is worth it. Should I have just stayed on the farm? No...I shouldn't have. I don't know why I keep questioning myself at times like this. I decided when I left home that I would become a skilled combatant like my father, and that's exactly what I'm going to do.
The look of fear that had plagued Selk's face until now seemed to fade. Instead it was replaced by a look of determination and angst. As the creature rared its head back, preparing to lunge again, Selk threw his body weight to his left in an attempt to roll. As he did this he put all his strength into smacking the side of the creature's head with the handle of his lance to knock it off of himself.
A grunt and a thud later, Selk was no longer pinned. He scrambled to his feet to see that the creature was snarling and clearly ready for round two.

"Hang on, Wein, I'm coming!" Yaen shouted, rushing after the fallen archer. Clasping the iron sword in both hands, he made a thrust towards the accursed beast, figuring if he couldn't slice it, he'd skewer it. The blade, sure enough, managed to break the hide and sink into the skin. Unsheathing his slim sword, the Sacaen repeated the action, trying to get closer to the squirming beasts neck.

As Denzel ran back to the campfire he registered that the forest itself was burning now. Someone shouted something about getting the hell outta there. No, we have to help these people first. Denzel thought, ever thinking of what the knightly thing to do is.
He saw that the swordman was under attack by one of the wolves (is that what they are?) Denzel raised his sword and dashed at the beast.

As the creature was reeling back from Yaen's attack, Wein was able to escape, giving the monster a swift kick in the jaw as he scuttled to his feet. He stood up and notched an arrow, aiming straight down the beast's howling throat. "Thanks," he said to Yaen as he loosed the arrow into the beast's throat. The monster screamed and flailed as the shaft pierced it's soft fleshy throat. Falling to its side, the thing howled one last time, quivered, and died. "Soft and pink on the inside," Wein muttered.
Looking up, Wein brushed his hair out of his face. He was sweating from the heat and his eyes were watering from the smoke. The fire was spreading. He looked at the others who were still fighting the beasts. "They're crazy," he said, exasperated, to Yaen. "The forest is burning down around us and they're still fighting?"

Aaron took stock of the situation. The fire in the trees had grown quicker than he though it would. A dry season perhaps? Wein and Yaen had managed to take down one of these creatures. Wyatt and Selk Mar were facing off with one each still. There was one other monster attacking some the travelers.
The strange axeman swept in with his weapon at the monster and managed a solid blow that knocked the creature off his companion. He glanced up, worry etched into his features, as the fires raged in the trees. The swordsman rolled over, attempting to pull himself into a feudal position to avoid the attacks directed against him. Denzel was already moving to assist over there, so Aaron looked to Selk and Wyatt.
Both were matched with an opponent. The fire's were growing dangerous, but Aaron saw an opportunity in the threat. He wasn't being attacked at the moment so he took his time aiming
"Fetch the stick Doggy..."Aaron muttered as he called up a fireball in his fist. It crackled greedily in his hand, but it's hunger was reserved for something else. Hurling the the fire toward it's target, it spread out and covered the branches above the wolf and spearman.
"Selk! Above you-"a coughing fit interrupted him as the smoke began getting thicker. " The branches are about to give way!" It was raining ashes in the forest and some of the branches were beginning to fall from the treetops without Aaron's help.
