Selk had been in the zone so far, but one thing snapped him out of it. He felt some of his hair being singed and an extreme heat above him. He looked up to see a large branch above him on fire. He then heard Aaron's words, but only the later part. It was a bit late for that. He leaped back, stumbling slightly in his attempt and landing flat on his back. The branch fell at the same time. Selk had been somewhat unfortunate. The flaming branch fell on his left leg. He'd also been lucky, though. The beast had leaped at him just as the branch fell and it was caught under the branch as well.
Okay....now this is a predicament. Move the branch and risk freeing the beast, or leave it and get burned. No choice. I can't get put out of commission like this. I will not lose!
Selk quickly took his lance and, with all his might, shoved it under the branch and began lifting. His leg was in pain due to superficial burns and having a large limb dropped on it, but due to the fact that the beast was thicker than his leg and his armor had protected him from the impact kept it from breaking his leg. Still, the metal and the heat were making it worse. It prevented direct flame to skin contact for the most part, but the hot metal was almost unbearable. He had to hurry.
He was becoming red in the face from lifting. He was pulling his leg with every ounce of strength he had, too. He'd have burns and splinters, but he finally managed to jerk his leg out from under the branch. His troubles weren't over there, though. Just as he got his leg out from under the branch the beast snapped at it and caught his foot in its jaws. His boots were armored as well, but not as heavily as the rest of him. They weren't plated near the sole and the beasts teeth sank in. "Aaaaggh!!!! Enough of this!" He cried out in pain and then readied his lance in both hands as he lay on the ground, struggling to pull his foot from the creature's maw. He shoved his lance at the creature, cutting open the side of its jaw as the lance thrust by its face and pierced the front of its left shoulder.
The beast let out an even more fierce growl than before when the lance penetrated its flesh. It let go for only a moment, but with selk pulling with all his remaining strength he managed to jerk his leg out of its reach. "I will not be defeated...," Selk grunts under his breath through clenched teeth. as he gets to his feet by using his lance as support. He takes a good look around to see the forest burning and the battle still raging. His leg would prevent him from getting to anyone to help if they were in trouble. He would limp if he had to go anywhere until he could get his wounds tended to. This is bad....the forest is on fire, it looks like those guys are in real trouble, too. If not for Sir Denzel they'd probably all be dead already. If we weren't here then they'd be goners for sure. They couldn't have taken all these creatures. Especially not with a surprise attack like this.
"Aaron....I'll be able to finish this one....make sure everyone else is safe," Selk calls to his friend over his shoulder as he tries to maintain enough balance to ready his lance for a finishing blow on the 'wolf' that was stuck under the burning branch.

Denzel slashed his sword at the wolves neck as he got in range. Again it failed to cut into things's hide at all, leaving only a superficial wound. it did however serve to get him to set his attention on Denzel rather then the swordsman. Denzel also noticed that the swordsman had already succeeded in cutting into it's eye. We have the advantage, and even these monsters must fear being trapped in a fire. Denzel thought as he watched the creature sprang back and try to look for a way out while keeping his prey in eyes view. Slowly it stopped and focused on Denzels small stature. Still, there's nothing more dangerous then a cornered animal. Trying to gnore how he has straining his muscles Denzel shot his sword upwards as the thing sprang at him.

Wyatt was still busy with his own, the battle taking it's toll on his slowly but surely. He missed often, the heavier weapon was far less accurate, and this enemy was far more nimble then most. The wolf, on the other hand, had scored quite a few hits on him, most of them grazing blows thankfully. As Wyatt became aware of the falling branches around him, he decided he could no longer afford to keep missing.
He made a half-hearted swing, which the wolf jumped sideways to dodge. However, he let the axe continue it's arc, and pulled it back again to drop with the weight of a hammer. This time his aim was true, and the heavy weapon ripped into the wolf, which crumpled about it.
He looked up in time to barely dodge another falling branch. "Come on! We've got to pull back!" He shouted to Selk and Denzel, looking around to ensure that their were no others approaching, since Denzel and Selk looked to have theirs under control. It seemed like the attack was over, but the danger had not yet passed.

"Ready when you are, Wyatt," yelled Wein. "We'll get barbecued if we stay here, and I don't want to be spare ribs!" As he yelled, a burning branch fell down from a tree between him and his horse. The horse reared and galloped away in fear. "Dammmit," cursed Wein, though it was a miracle the horse had stayed this long. At least he could walk now. Slapping Yaen on the back, Wein began running away from the quickly spreading flames. "Let's get moving!"

It's been a few days travel since Kishou left Etruria. He could tell he was in Lycia now, and instead of heading to the closest city, Ostia, he headed off to the outskirts. It was the most likely spot to start searching for renegade bandits to purge.
When he first told his master Doug his reason for leaving, he was quite dishearten. He couldn't finish his training to Bishop if he left early, he had told him, but Kishou couldn't be swayed. He felt the world needed guidance of light soon, for those most unfortunate who suffer from villains almost constantly.
He was adamant in this self-appointed quest of his and Doug could see that, so he bid him farewell with his blessing.
With him he carried a tome of Light (a gift from Doug) and a vulneray pack (a gift from his mother and father). This was his first time traveling alone, and traveling with no set course in mind but a goal, and while he was a bit nervous he would fail, the burning anticipation to help better the world by saving those less fortunate by bandits was enough to make him march on.
When the day was finally reaching dusk, Kishou decided to camp out for the night. He was in the midst to prepare for rest when he vaguely spotted a pillar of smoke. Curious, the monk walked towards it and at the vantage point of the hill, he saw the forest below was burning.
Kishou didn't know what convinced him to do so, but he found himself rushing down to the fire, with his equipment at hand. Some of the branches in one pathway were blocking the entrance, but a quick flash of Light was more than enough to destroy the snag.
He ran further in, trying hard to see where he was going, or for that matter, wonder what he was trying to find. Could there be someone stuck in this fire? Was it an accident? Was it a spiteful joke for a couple of brigands?
He stopped as he spotted a group of fighters on a life-or-death battle with a crazed wolf. The warriors (ranging from all classes: archer, soldier, myrmidon, cavalier, journeyman) looked tired and brutally hurt, but the wolf was gory and bloody all over, almost ready to collapse. Looking around, he noticed some of them stayed behind to fight it off while the rest were trying to escape.
Kishou chanting from his Light tome, preparing to attack the wolf with it, but... found himself hesitant at the final verse. Could he really contribute to attacking the wolf? He was no fool; he knew his magic wasn't as strong as Doug's, which was another reason why he asked him to reconsider his journey. Even more so, the others looked like they were having trouble finding a way out, or at least escaping from the falling branches.
Despite his indecisiveness, he recalled advice that Doug once said to him:
Do not overestimate your abilities, or underestimate your opponent. The way of the Monk is supporting from the rear line with Light magic, as such with the Mage and Shaman. You should only use such powers on what is absolutely necessary.
But what was necessary, Kishou thought to himself. Could he even be sure his magic could hurt that beast?
He knew what he had to do.
As another flaming branch came falling towards the archer, myrmidon, and young ax-man, Kishou whipped his hand at it. A explosive flash later, the branch disintegrated, and all that fell were small embers.
"Follow me if you wish to live!" he called out to the warriors. With that, he ran back to the way he came, the path he made when running through the forest in the first place.

OoC: Sorry I haven't posted, I was one night, but I fell asleep, then was slammed with lots of homework, then all the sudden there were a lot of posts and I had to take my time to read through them.
IC: Malachi thrust his lance into the beast as it lunged towards him once more. Blood ran down his lance and covered his gauntlets, the wolf struggled for a while and soon went limp. The wolf fell to the ground as Malachi pushed his lance with his foot. He looked around at the fire that had started around him, surprised to see such a thing. That mage must of started, I guess I was so caught up in my battle... Malachi shook his head and ran towards the source of the fire where the rest of the group was.
There was a large creaking sound behind him as a large portion of burning branches fell behind him and launched burning ashes into the air around him. Malachi waved the smoke away from his face and looked up to see Wein riding away and yelling to the group to follow. "Right behind you," Malachi called after him. "Come on Selk, lets get going," he said to the young knight, then looking over at the mage and started following behind the archer.

Aaron saw the flames devouring the forest and knew that it was going to burn for quite a while. He didn't know how to make natural fires extinguish yet.
"I started this. This fire was my own weapon, but now it threatens us all" It opened his eyes to the kind of care he should take from now on.
"I started these flames, now I need to help the others get out." He said to himself. The fire was blazing, but he felt a responsibility now to help the the others escape. He looked down and saw that the corner of his cloak had caught fire. With a quick flick of his hand he launched a small burst of flame which blasted away the burning cloth. Selk's opponent was trapped under burning debris, so the mage looked toward the travelers.
Denzel jammed his blade upward just as the wolf-thing sprang at him, but Aaron couldn't see what happened next. A puff of ashes sputtered into the air, clouding Aaron's view for a few moments. The mage heard voices shouting about getting out of the forest, but that wasn't catching his attention at the moment. He was mainly trying to stay uncrisped, and get up to the Denzel and the travelers. He pressed on despite his fear that he was moving towards a fiery death.
"We've got to get out of this forest!" At another time he would have been mortified by the obviousness of his statement. A burning limb fell and bounced off of Aaron's back, the cloak sheltering him mostly, but leaving a bruise and scorch marks.

Wyatt was busy scanning the growing blaze for any sign of other creatures, it looked empty. The smoke was so thick it was difficult to breath, and nigh impossible to see. It was only a stroke of luck that he looked up when he did, to notice that the branch that hit Aaron was only the signs of the tree itself beginning to fall.
"Aaron! Watch it!" He shouted, and before Aaron could have moved more then looking, he tackled him out of the way. The tree fell with a crash behind him, blocking the path back to the others. Now he, Aaron, Denzel (Not sure on Selk's placement, so I'll let him decide which side he is on.) were separated from the others, with the fire rapidly spreading.
Wyatt pulled himself from the ground, in time to get a bit of good news. The axeman took advantage of Denzel's distraction, and with a sharp descent, cleaved the wolves head from it's body. He looked to the archer, already long dead, and turned to help the injured swordsman.
"We've got to go! Come on, there is a river down this way!" He shouted, pushing a path through the burning brush.
Unfortunately, there was no way the others could get through this way until the fire died down, unless they went to charge right through it.

Selk had heard the chaos around him. The calls to leave were the only thing on his mind, really. That and finishing off the wolf still trapped under a burning branch. He raised his lance and plunged it into the neck of the creature, putting almost all his body weight on it to end it. He then jerked his lance up and out of it, turning to see Wyatt tackle Aaron towards him, saving him from a falling, flaming tree. "Yeah...let's get out of here," Selk said under his breath between coughing from the smoke. His leg was still injured, so he could only hobble to follow them, using his lance as support.

Wein ran after the newcomer, dashing around fallen branches and flaming shrubbery. It felt good to run again, though he wished he could have done it some other time than now. He could no longer recognize the forest they were in, so he thought it best to just follow the man in front of him. Craning his head backwards, he could no longer see the rest of the group. He hoped they got out safely, but there was nothing he could have done by staying any longer than need be.

As Aaron impacted the ground, he felt the air knocked out of him. As he opened his eyes though, he saw that he wouldn't draw any breath ever again if he'd remained where he'd been. He croaked out a "thanks." to Wyatt.
Aaron looked around and saw the survivors dispatch the last of the wolf-things. As he got to his feet, he heard Wyatt say that there was a river ahead. It couldn't protect them from being crushed by falling branches, but it was probably the safest route out of the fire.
As he headed down the path the Axman had taken, Aaron felt anger building. Anger at himself for starting the fire, and now for trying to help and only having to be helped himself. "If Wyatt hadn't risked himself... I'll learn from all this"
A dark, glistening surface revealed itself in the light of ruin. Despite the heat all around, the river was cold as he slipped into it. "Here it is!" he said to the others. He worried briefly about his book of Fire as he felt the water, but decided he couldn't worry about it.

Kishou was only aware of one man, the archer, following him through the scorching forest. The others, they must have not heard him or were lost amist the chaos. A shame he couldn't help the others, but he would have to hope they would make it out on their own. All the monk could do now was to find the way out, for both their sakes.
He kept up his magic at a constant rate, whipping his charged hand at any falling flaming debris, then quickly chanting again for another. His spells, while still weak, were at least effective in destroying wood and flame, so it acted as a quiding light of sorts. He was slow, but managed to keep ahead of the archer as he guided him.
Finally, the two reached the end of the woods, rolling out of the gap just before a tree came down and barred the path. Both men panted on the ground, a thrill of adrenaline declining, as they stared at the still burning forest. They made it. Somehow.
As he regained his breath, Kishou turned to the archer. "Forgive me," he said. "While guiding you out of the forest, I seem to have seperated you from your group."
He took a quick look around the area and saw a river to the distance, a little ways south and around the forest. "Perhaps they have traveled down to the river there."

As the two exited from the forest, Wein stopped, panting and rubbing his sore legs. Still not up to top shape just yet, then. He looked up at the newcomer. "I guess you did," he observed, still panting and a little excited from the danger they just rushed out of. "Not like it's my fault. They're the ones who wanted to stay behind and play hero, even after all that nonsense before..." Wein trailed off. He looked over to the river. "I doubt they're in any serious harm. If I didn't get out, the water would be the first place I'd be. Come on, let's go check it out." Wein waved for the light magic user to follow him as he hopped off towards the river.

Kishou smiled a bit, hearing the archer's small rant as he walked with him. "Ha! Play hero, huh?" he said. "Well, they're either really brave, or really foolish, to face such a twisted creature like that. Especially in a burning forest.
"I was about to assist them myself, but was reminded of what my master once told me: 'Do not overestimate your abilities, or underestimate your opponent. You should only use such powers on what is absolutely necessary.' Being a monk, or any spellcaster for that matter, is to know when and how to use magic. At least that is what Master Doug has told me."
He paused and almost stopped mid-step. "Oh, silly me. I forgot to introduce myself. I am Kishou, a monk from Etruria, on a pilgrimage to help rebuild the world. And you?"
