Saturos sighed. "I got it, I got it. No need to be so smart about it," he said, trotting over to Darion. He bent down and pulled out the vulnerary, uncorked it, then dripped the contents on Darion's wounds. As Saturos spread in the gooey substance, the mercenary's wounds started to noticeably heal.
As the myrmidon went about his work, he talked to Marle. "See a smithy? See a smithy about what?"

Marle slumped down, placing all of her weight into the body of the lance she used to support herself. She was a bit tired, not having been in a real fight before. With a hand, she tenderly touched her cheek and lip, coving them up with the leathery gloved hand, as it hurt to move her mouth to speak.
Moving her hand away from her head, she lifted her shoulder plating, to show Saturos the large gash of a hole that the axe blade had left in her strong armor, having been quite lucky that it didn't transfer right through into her shoulder, though she had felt the weight of the blade against the furs covering her arms and body.
"This, it's not immediate, no...but it's something I'll have to do sometime...it looks quite awful on the eyes...definately not something fit for me."
She tried to joke as she looked at the wound Darion suffered with slight disdain, but she went down and knelt next to him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"How are you doing, Darion?"

Saturos finished applying the salve to Darion's wounds and stood up, stretching his legs. He looked towards Marle as he spoke. "The vulnerary healed most of his cuts and gashes, but not the deeper ones," he said, his right arm akimbo. "Add that to the blunt trauma and the exhaustion, a vulnerary just isn't going to fix everything." Saturos looked back down at the overexerted Darion. He thought being away from war would keep him from all this fighting, but it seemed it was impossible to escape from hardship and pain, no matter how hard he tried. "I guess that's what you get for taking on four men at once, though it's not like we had much of a choice. I'm just glad it's not me lying there on the ground."
Saturos squatted down and put an arm under Darion, grabbing his arm with his other hand. He lifted the mercenary over his shoulder, then adjusted the injured man until he was piggy-backed comfortably on the myrmidon's back. With a slight grunt, Saturos started walking off. "We're near the border," he called back to Marle, pointing towards the mountains. "Just over that ridge is Etruria, and the closer we get to Etruria, the higher chance we have of finding a town. Once we find a town, we can get Darion some help."
Saturos normally would have just taken Darion back to Richter's town, but he had gotten lost in the blizzard, and in all honesty had no idea how to get back. Even finding the town in the first place was kind of a shot in the dark. This was the best course of action he could think of.

Oh, great. That battle took more out of him than he thought. Even though the vulnerary healed the major wounds, he was still injured, and tired to boot. He vaguely noticed Saturos helping him up, and didn't complain. However, when the myrmidon hefted him onto his back, he tried to protest. "Hey! I can walk by myself ya know," came out as "Ugh! Ah cn walk m'self y'know," in the mumble speak of the exhausted.

Marle followed in silence, her eyes were drawn to the ground as she nodded to Saturos beforehand about the wounds. her eyes looked back behind her, seeing the mess of men laid barren on the snowy landscape. She felt a pang of guilt for what she did, but she kept telling herself,
It was either me or them...I did the right thing...didn't I?
For a fair time, she just stayed behind, her lance in hand and swung over her shoulder as what most men did with swords and axes. It was a comfortable position, but she kept fidgeting with her broken armor.
"We're near the border."
She heard Saturos' voice from up ahead, and quickened her step. She came up just a body behind Saturos to his left, smirking at Darion, as she went out and touched his shoulder, as her green eyes met the image of the mountains, and stared in wonder, never having been this close to mountains before, despite how far away they still were.
"Amazing...it's like, a spine, the way they run..."

Saturos nodded. "It sure is," he said in agreement. "No matter how many times I see these mountains, I'm always impressed." Saturos shifted his weight a little. Darion sure was heavy. "But the only thing you'll be amazed about once we get there is why you even bothered trying to climb them. It's not going to be easy." Saturos shifted his weight again. Darion was really heavy. Oh well, this was good body training. "I've climbed these babies at least four times and I'm still a bit excited."
The three, or rather two walked in silence for quite a distance until Saturos took a second to stop for a breather. He turned his head towards Darion's. "You alright?"

"Zzz...zz-!" Darion's head shot up as he awoke, having fallen asleep at some point. He was still tired, but he thought he would be okay for awhile. The mercenary groggily dropped off Saturos' back and stretched, testing his body.
He yawned, covering his mouth, before he said, "Yeah, I think I'll be okay. -yawn- " Darion shook his head and glanced at the mountains, before glancing back at his companions. Mountains, companions, mountains, companions. "We're climbing those, aren't we?"

"Oh yes we're climbing those," said Saturos with a grin. "Think you can handle it?" They myrmidon's expression tensed up slightly. "Don't push yourself too hard, though. You're still pretty beat up."
Saturos walked ahead and started up the foothills. The cold air descending down from the mountain peaks howled as it cut around the rocky crags. Wrapping his cloak around him, Saturos signaled the other two to follow. "It's a long hike, so we better get started!" he called.

Marle gave a start when she shivered. it was Cold! This coming from an Ilianer. Damn it was cold, the wind that swept down the mountain. Sighing, she looked over her shoulder, and affixed her lance to the metal holster that she had made for her whenthe need of both her hands were needed. The lance clamped down and locked onto her armor.
Trudging through the rcks and snow, she followed the myrmidon as cosely as she could, not wanting to be left behind.
"Yes sir!"

"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind," Darion replied to Saturos.
As the chill wind swept down upon them, Darion buttoned up his overcoat, and made sure his sword was secured to his back. He kept pace with Marle, slightly behind Saturos.
They climbed, higher and higher, the air cooling even more. Darion's breath began coming up short, and he managed to gasp out, "Hold up!" before sitting on a convenient rock, wheezing, trying to bring his breathing back under control. He pulled a canteen from his travel pack, chipped the ice off of the cap, and took small sips.

Richter stopped marching when Darion started wheezing and gasping. "The air gets thin up here," he said, a wry smile on his face, "but I can see you already know that." Saturos looked down the mountain. They had made good progress in the amount of time they had been climbing, especially considering Darion's condition. As Marle seemed to be a little tired herself, Saturos sat down on a rock. "A break could be nice, but we don't want to take too long or else we'll start freezing, and I don't think anyone wants that." The myrmidon wrapped himself tightly in his outerwear. This was worse than just standard Ilian cold, which made him glad he had his especially warm cloak on.
From what Saturos had said, the climb seemed to be going a bit too easily. However, that was not the case: the hard part started up ahead.

Marle could feel the weight of her heavy armor pulling her down as she climbed up the rocky face of the mountain. Breathing tight breaths, she looked up at the rest of them, trying to be sure of her footing and of her grip on the stones. Grunting, she slowly climbed up to where Saturos sat, and nodded in agreement, thinking that a break was well in order. Climbs like these...oh...why did she have to wear so much armor..
Plunking herself down in a rattle of armor, Marle laid back against a rock which acted much like a chair. Her breathes were definitely deeper, and longer, not being able to get enough air. Good thing was, she was still relatively cold, except for the wind on her face...that was the only part of her which would go dumb first.
"Good idea indeed...if I wasn't in all this armor...I'd probably doing a bit better...but I guess...this is good training...prepares me to be able to wear my knights armor.."
She was, and wasn't looking forward to having to grow all that strength to be able to fight in such armor, it was going to be a pain..

"Stupid thin air..." Darion said as he slowly got his breath back. The mercenary couldn't wait till they got out of these mountains. Not only would it be colder than normal, but the air was thin and the footing could be treacherous. Darion shook his head to banish the thoughts of what could happen.
He closed his canteen and put it back in his pack. After a few more moments of rest he stood up and stretched. "Well, you said it yourself, Sat. We can't stayed stopped for too long. Lead the way."

Saturos grinned. "It's good to keep your body in top shape," he said, patting his breastplate. A thin layer of ice chipped off as he did. "I'm not much for heavy armor, though. My sword style demands full range of motion." He rotated his arm and twisted his waist as if to demonstrate. "To each their own, I guess."
"Well, you said it yourself, Sat. We can't stayed stopped for too long. Lead the way." Saturos put his hands on his knees and pushed himself to his feet. The cold was starting to make him feel stiff and numb. He needed to get his body moving again. "You're right, let's go," he agreed. Rubbing his hands together, Saturos walked over to a pile of rocks, looked around for a second, then started up a thin, steep path. "The path gets a bit treacherous here," he said seriously. "Be extra careful, take your time, and tell me if you're having trouble."

Marle grinned at Saturos, that was indeed true. She did have some teachings with the sword, but at the time, she couldn't wield it nearly as good as the other novice or recruits at the school she took. However, the lance, and the armor suited her. She wanted to be a shield, and what better way, than to become the shield yourself?
Slowly, she followed the two men, not being able to keep the same pace, and having slipped a few times in her grip. She kept her grip steady the way up, trying to see what stones the others may have taken, to work it to her own advantage.
This was a lot harder than it looked...why wasn't their any convenient roads out of Ilia, anyways?"
