At the recruit's first thrust, Syana instinctively jumped back and was just able to get out of the range of her follow up swipe. This girl obviously had some skills, which excited her even more. She quickly tried to judge how much that armor of herself weighed. It looked pretty heavy and if her initial movement showed anything, it was that she had the speed advantage. Deciding to test her luck, she began to run again. This time, however, she circled around Marle rather than going right at her, looking for an opening as she did.

The matter of her attack not landing didn't seem to show any kind of emotion on Marle, though really, she was a little disappointed, but only a little, nothing to get hung up on. She was quick, almost like Saturos, but not...Marle eyed the girl uneasily as she took easy, minimal movements, keeping herself relaxed, as well as calm. Licking at her lips, she decided to flash a smile out towards Syana, she knew something the Mercenary didn't here, and she was going to play on that.
So, Marle stood, watching, turning and following the girl circling around, wondering if she did find any kind of weakness. if she had a shield, that would indeed, be a tough guess, but all she had was a lance at this moment...not fit for shield training as of yet.
"So...find what you were looking for?" Marle called out melodiously, her emerald eyes locking on her target, the tip of her lance bounced easily holding it much like her teacher taught, which was a one handed fighting style.

"Possibly," Syana called back. "Guess we'll just have to check, won't we?" She circled around a few more times, waiting for the right time to try out her attack. Finally, she made one last circle around, When she got behind Marle and in what she guessed was a blind spot, she quickly changed direction and went back the way she came. With a quick motion, she aimed her strike at the recruit's upper arm, hoping that a hit there would disable her. Or at least stun. Stunned she could live with.

Marle gave a small grunt as she saw the girl change directions suddenly. To not let herself get duped, she quick took a step forwards and turned one-hundred and eighty degrees around with just a pivot of her feet.
Fast
There was no doubt about that, the mercenary was fast, but she would not let one of her prime weaknesses be her downfall, if anything, she would want to be beaten by a more skilled opponent. Smirking still, she rolled her shoulder back and more or less ducked under the strike, since she was a little shorter. As she went under the blow, she brought her lance to hold much like a quarter staff, and brought the butt of the weapon to strike just under Syana's ribs with a quick movement.
"I'm not a knight yet, if I was...I'd be much slower...but I'm used to the weight of this armor. You may run faster...but I react just as quickly, armor or no."

Syana gave a little grunt as end of the lance struck her. As she jumped back, she laughed dryly. "Had a feeling that would be too easy, but had to try didn't I?" She ran a hand over the area she was hit, making sure there was no damage. When she was sure there was none, she lifted her sword back up.
"You do react quickly. I'll give you that." She gave her a smirk. "But now I know that. And I won't forget it." She cracked her neck again. "1-0, you. Begin round 2." She ran at her again.

Marle smiled a little, but not enough to show smugness. She stayed rather composed as she began to get off her knee and took a few steps backwards, rolling her heavy shoulders and loosening them up. The tip of her lance touched dirt and made a small groove in the ground as she watched Syana for a moment and shrugged her shoulders.
"I suppose so."
She wasn't as ready as she had wanted to be, but she stiffened a bit, and brought her lance into two hands now, the tip of her longer weapon outwards, meaning to come and meet Syana head on, however, she followed up like her first attack, but this time, there was no feint, and she made a full movement, stopping her movement as she dug in her heels, and Brought the butt of her weapon down hear her own feet to prop it u fro Syana to possibly run into.

Syana cleared her mind as she ran. Her excitement had gotten the best of her before. Now it was time to see what she was really capable of. As she closed in, she watched Marel prop up her lance. Knowing she didn't have time enough to stop, she did the next best thing. Putting all her weight behind it, she swung her sword, not at Marle, but the spear itself. Best case, she knocks it out of her hands and leaves her unbalanced. Worst case, nothing happens and she runs full on into a spear. And she had to admit that would probably hurt quite a bit.
As she swung she aimed an area just under the tip of the spear, feeling as if that would be her best shot it dislodge it. 'Here goes nothing...' she thought.

That was the worst part of her weapon choice. As Syana struck the lance, the lance moved out of the way with the blow, despite having both hands tightly on the weapon. The lance gave a mild flex as metal rang out on metal. Marle gave a small step backwards, and dislodged the weapon from her foot. Syana was now in her striking range, and she didn't really much enjoy that.
Grunting, she held onto the weapon fully with a grip like iron, the spear wavering a bit, but she had stepped back so the scabbard of the sword struck against the sleeve on her own weapon. Marle gave a dumb smirk as she kept her weapon leveled, supporting the weapon with both hands infront of her
Now...it was a weapons match, and so Marle treated it like one. Just after the blow to the spear, the young woman pushed forwards, thrusting twice at both shoulders of the mercenary, then pulling back, and made a large arcing swoop horizontally infront of her.
"Not bad.."

As Marle struck back, Syana dropped to the ground to avoid her attacks. "Phew. That was close." She took a leaf out of Marle's book and feigned an attack at her legs before swinging upwards towards her chest. Hopefully, she'd hit and get her point. If she missed... well she always did like to be the underdog.

Marle was no more ready for the dodge as she was the attack. By having swung widely, she left herself open. She went to jump over the low swing of her sword, but was fooled, and as she landed, she felt the sword inpact on her chest, and gave a light grunt as the armor on her chest took the impact with very little shock behind it. Marle shook herself a bit as if further loosening up. She got sloppy, and overconfident on her part now.
"Very nice, very nice indeed, Syana."
She bowed a little bit, almost like a noblewoman would, but then took a step back. She wouldn't let the woman charge at her again this time, she would fight her in close quarters, using her lance now as a staff. Holding the weapon with two hands, she grinned and blew some hair out of her face.
"You have a point, as do I...lets see how this goes.."
Marle rushed in with amazing agility despite her heavy look in armor. She took a low stance, using her shorter size to advantage, and brought the butt of her lance up to strike at the woman's blade, and then systematically withdrew the first strike should it, or should it not land, and then came down with the other end of her lance with the sleeve, to strike the woman near the shoulder.

Syana had barely been able to get to her feet by the time the recruit had charged at her. Her first blow did strike her blade but she held firm on it. She wasn't gonna be defeated by her own move. She was barely able to get her sword over in time to block the second blow. Instead of trying to slip under it, she began to push back. The recruit had leverage in her, so she dug in as well and tried for force her attack away. "An old fashion stand off... fun."

Marle stayed staring at Syana a little, and grinned at their stature, holding the sword there just as much as Syana was holding her lance back, unable to give any pivotal swings properly like this. She held still as Syana tried to push her, but her stance was firm, she would not be budged as long as she kept this well practiced and balanced form. Marle made no attempt to push back against her, only to keep her still, until she changed forms, and put her leg up beside the mercenaries own, and slid the heel of her boot in just behind Syana's own.
With a burst of hidden strength, she meant to do to Syana what she had meant to do to Marle, and gave a heavy push with both of arms, which would amount to greater force over a broader, more maintained surface than Syana's own, which was just on the hilt of her sword. If this worked, she would trip the Merc if luck followed, or Syana would just stumble back, provided, if she was strong enough to push the woman at all to begin with, otherwise, they would still be stuck in the same position.

Luck, it seemed, was on Marle's side as Syana fell to the ground. She groaned slightly as she hit the ground. She rolled backwards in hopes of getting out of her immediate range. As she rolled, she brought her sword close to her, taking a tight grip on the hilt. She knew Marle would attack while she was down, so she was readying herself for the inevitable counter attack. She braced herself, for she knew the blow would come soon, and lifted her eyes up to her.

Marle was actually quite pleased with herself, and so, she allowed the mercenary to get up. She had begun spinning the lance in her hands like a top, allowing Syana back to her feet. Stopping her spinning, she gave a little bit of a grimace to her opponent, and tapped her lance on her shoulder, making a fairly audible clanking.
"I did that too, my first few lessons when I trained with a lance, taught me proper footwork."
She nodded and held her lance in her usual manner, point down, but then swung the weapon back behind herself a little, feeling the stock of her weapon run up along side her back as she jumped forwards and brought the lance around over head, and with both hands, allowed the superior length of her lance strike down with all the force she could muster with the downward swing of the long weapon, until it would hit ground, or Syana.

Syana was quick to hop back enough steps to get out of the way of Marle's attack and got herself into an attack position. She gave her sword a few twirls. "See, I can do it too," she joked. She even tossed her sword into the air and caught it. The second she caught it, she raced forward towards her sparring partner.
As she closed in she threw her blade up into the air. Hoping Marle would follow it's progress, she darted around to her back to catch it. Once she did, she made a quick cross-slash towards her back.
