Syana sighed and hefted up her sword. She had hopped she could watch Saturos or Parry go first so she could see what it was like, but oh well. She slowly started to move towards the goat, making sure her armor didn't make too much noise. It was this part of any kind of hunt she wasn't very fond of. She liked fighting, planning and the such, but sneaking wasn't her strong suit.
She gave the group a little look, as though to make sure she was doing it right before moving forward again. She was pretty such she could take down the goat, it was just a matter if she could get there in time. As the merc crept closer, her first instinct was to throw her sword at the creature, but her mind went back to Saturos' teachings earlier and she thought better of it. She got into a sprinting position, sword at the ready.
After taking a deep breath, Syana lunged. The goat started to run, but she was too quick for it. With two quick slashes, the goat fell to the ground. She cleaned her blade on her arm quickly and sheathed it. She smiled as she walked back over to the group. "Piece of cake."

Saturos gave a slight nod to Syana while Parry clapped. For a complete novice, her kill was quite quick. "Good job," said Saturos, stepping over to examine the goat. He knelt down next to the corpse. Its chest was sliced open, ribs broken, and it's spine was snapped. The goat was dead, alright, but a tad mutilated. "Just remember, though, hunting with a sword is different than hunting with a spear or an arrow. While you can cut it, it can ruin the animal. Thrusts tend to be cleaner kills." He grabbed the goat's leg and lifted it up, examining it's other side, but as he did, Parry walked up and grabbed the goat by the neck with his massive hand.
"Aye, give the girl credit where it's due," said the large man. "Being her first time, I'd say she did pretty well." He gave the goat a quick one over. "The beast still looks eatable, so I'd say it's fine." Parry tossed the animal over his shoulder. "What do you say we look for the next one?"

Marle had stayed silent for the most part, and watched as Syana made quick work of the animal, and shot up an eyebrow, not having expected her to go all out against the animal, and almost felt sorry for it, almost. She gave a light clap as well as Syana finished off, and Marle trod up to her, overlooking the dead animal once more, but then eyed both Parry and Saturos, nodding, but it was a little half hearted, Syana did do it afterall, and she didn't know the animal needed to be preserved for skinning or some such.
"Well, good job Syana, I don't think I could have done it...but I'll try next time."
Smiling joyfully, she nodded to Parry when he made mention of finding the next, and then she pushed forwards, half-looking to the dead animal with it's eyes still open, staring at her, which made her a little odd feeling, as it rested over Parry's shoulder.
"Damn it Parry, you're pretty strong...man-handling that thing."

Syana kept up her smile, but it faded on the inside. She would do better next time. While Parry was right and it was her first goat kill, Saturos was right too. She could do better. And she would.
She nodded to Marle. "You'll get one, don't worry." She gave a little wink. "You beat me, remember? If you can beat me, you can beat them."
Syana then fell towards the back of the group. Time to watch the others, and hopefully learn something of the art of goat killing.

Marle nodded, to Syana, after she directed the comment to Parry, and rubbed her armor with the sleeve of her shirt that wasn't covered by armor on her arms. She looked at the goat again and shrugged her shoulder, carrying her lance over her shoulder and proceeded to take point up the mountain trail, acting as if she knew where one may be, but not traveling very far before turning over her shoulder and nodding to Syana.
"Aye, possibly, but still fighting animals is much different than people..."
Was it really? It was to her, only because she's never fought an animal, but they had heightened senses, and sometimes, faster reflexes. A slower opponent like herself may be too clumsy to get close enough before scaring said animal away.
"Well! We'll see...So...up here look good?"
Marle pointed up a somewhat steep path, but if these were mountain goats, they would probably like the higher altitude.

"The larger ones tend to be higher up," said Parry with a nod, following after Marle. "More of them, too." The goat still over his shoulder, he walked up next to the knight-to-be. "It does get a bit steep from here, so it's a fair bit more dangerous." He turned back to look at Saturos, who was making his way up. "Satty, you take point. I'll stay in the back and play the safety net." Saturos nodded and moved past Marle and Parry to take the lead.
"Sounds like a plan," replied the myrmidon, pausing to figure out which route to take up. It was a bit steeper to the right, but there were bushes and shrubs to grab on to. The left was not quite as steep, but traversing the rocks could be a bit tricky. With a quick glance back at the other three, he nodded. "Alright, follow me," he said, starting up the leftish side of the path.
As they clambered upwards, Saturos felt like making conversation. "So, Marle, Syana's right," he said casually, balancing on a rock, "I think you should go for the next goat. No point in trekking all the way up here in all that armor for no reason, right?"

Marle moved to the side as best she could, to let Saturos through, as he would take the lead. Licking her lips, she followed carefully, Digging her lance's butt into the rocks for better stability as she pulled herself along after him, and took with careful footing...maybe she should have left her gear back at the inn.
Her eyes trailed from her feet to Saturos, and breathed toughly as she agreed with him. Losing her grip with a foot, Marle quickly leaned into the lance for balance, as it was son re-attained.
"Yeah, I know I know, I'll do the next one."
Following as close as she could to Saturos, she stopped suddenly as the path got a little wider, hearing an odd crack up ahead, like a branch breaking, she yelled, as for what good as whisper was at yelling.
"Hey..did you hear that?"

Syana had fallen back a little bit, walking just ahead of Parry. Despite the fact she knew she'd need to do better, she still felt good about it inside. Like Parry had said, she had gotten the job done. She'd just do it even better next time.
At the sound of the strange noise, she stopped completely. "Ya..." she answered, lifting her sword off her shoulder. "I don't think that we're gonna like what made that..."

OoC: I apologize, Saturos, if you wish for me to edit this post, I will do so.
Marle nodded to Syana as she rested herself up against the rocky ledging, having stopped now in caution, no longer wanting to make another step. Her eyes looked around tried to figure out if there were other sounds around them. It was quiet for a time, aside from the sounds of breathing, as quiet as they were, and the sound of wind rushing through the mountains.
Slowly, she worked her way up to Saturos, and licked her lips nervously, and rested a hand on his shoulder as if to steady herself.
"Got any ideas? It didn't sound like a branch cracking...close...but it didn't...I know what that sound makes..."
Again, another crack, but it was more fluid, like a crunching. The sound itself made her queasy...it was a disgusting sound in her ears. It almost sounded like breaking/snapping bones, but Marle couldn't see where it was coming from, perhaps somewhere up ahead, maybe?

OoC: Do not apologize. It is your right to advance the plot.
Saturos' focused in on the rocks and bushes from which the crunching sound was coming from. It was...suspicious, to say the least. The myrmidon slowly drew his sword from its sheath and crept closer. It was probably just a goat, but Marle was right...it didn't sound like twigs. Maybe a log? A ram could have jumped from a rock and broken a log. Rams could get pretty big. Of course, this was just Saturos trying to justify what was probably, he suspected, much more dangerous.
Saturos stopped at the bushes while Parry remained at the back, cleaning the goat so that it could me more easily carried. After all, a goat without a skeleton weighed much less than a goat with. His breath concentrated and his body tense, the swordsman paused as he waited for something to come out of the foliage.
Saturos' tension was somewhat relieved when a large ram came bounding out of the brush, stopping on a large boulder and giving the relieved man a look that asked "What?" Wiping his brow, he turned to Marle and jabbed his thumb at the beast.
"Well, looks like it was just a ram, want to give it a shot?" he asked. As Saturos said this, however, a large head lashed out at the beast, barely giving the ram time to bleat before it's body was crushed in between two, large jaws. Startled, the swordsman stumbled back, almost falling over as a pair of leathery wings shot up from behind the boulders. The reptilian's tail lashed out from the bush, almost striking Saturos upside the head as it growled predatorialy, the ram still in it's mouth.
Parry, putting down his carving knife and pulling his axe from his back, stared at the wyvern. "Get your weapons ready!" he shouted assertively.

Marle had been standing prepared all this time, and when Saturos motioned to the goat that bounded out of some bushes, a large weight was lift off her shoulders. Hands tightening around the lance, she gave a small and and pushed forwards, and thankfully no sooner. The huge form swooped down, and took the ram easily within it's massive jaws, that crunching sound returning, but this time knowing it was broken bones.
Marle as well, ducked from the swinging tail, since she was also right around where Saturos was, and felt her lance get smacked and caused the weapon to tilt back, but quickly catching her grip, and stopping her own arm from swinging. re-affirming her defensive stance, she pushed up onto the flatter ground before the Wyvern. Weapons out? Parry need not say a thing, she was well prepared, afterall, it was hard to sling a lance compared to a sword or axe.
Marle took the time to study the landscape...it wasn't too favorable, but it was flat, with rocky elements to hide behind if necessary. Thank goodness she as no pegasus rider...Marle began to encircle the wyvern, spreading herself out a bit so they weren't all still channeled into the pathway.
Her face was contorted to something of fear and excitement, but mostly fear. Fighting men was one thing, they were predicable to a fault...and wyverns...wyverns were fast, large, and extremely powerful.
The lizard took interest in Marle, for the only reason because she was the one upfront at the moment, and lurched forwards, with the dead creature still in it's mouth, and moved to swipe at Marle with massive, raking claws, drawing a long hiss mixed with a growl as it did so.
Marle moved back, and with lance in both hands, she tried to attempt a swipe at the incoming claws once they had missed her, but wasn't so lucky, the wyvern had pulled it's claws back before harm could be done.

Syana drew her sword as she looked up at the wyvern. She wasn't scared, exactly. More like adrenaline filled. She felt ready for this fight; she just had a feeling that they would come out on top. Not to say that she wasn't going to be careful, because after her sparring match with Marle, she knew she couldn't be careless. She took a stance that could used both offensively and defensively. She watched the creature swing at Marle, her attack back and waited for her chance to strike.

Saturos looked on as the wyvern attacked Marle. His legs froze up. He couldn't move. "Now is NOT the time for this," he thought to himself angrily. Saturos' fear of wyverns was acting up, and for good reason: this was one, big wyvern, and it seemed awfully pissed.
"Satty, watch yourself!" yelled Parry, pushing Saturos to the ground as he ducked an oncoming swipe from the assaulting wyvern. The myrmidon hit the rocks as Parry charged the scaled beast. Deflecting an attack from the wyvern's claw, the large, muscled man managed to land a blow with his axe on the creature's shoulder. The beast howled in pain, dropping the goat and swiping at Parry again. The axeman managed to block it, but the force of the attack pushed him to the ground, landing on his rear.
Saturos scrambled to his feet. If he locked up now, he was dead. Brandishing his sword, he prepared himself for the wyvern's next assault.

Marle never took her eyes off the large beast, but only did so when it moved to attack Saturos once more, and was a little shocked when he stood there, frozen. She was a bit worried for him, wondering if he was to be okay, but now that Parry had a distraction set up, it too, was Marle's turn to advance. The creature, though bigger, was going to have to fight from three directions, four, when Saturos was comfortable again.
With the Wyvern turned and focused on Parry, Marle charged, her heavy boots audible on the rocky ground, and grabbing the lance by the very butt of her lance for added reach, she pierced the scaled creature in the chest just below it's forward leg, opposite to the one that Parry had attacked.
Another bellowing cry went out from the large Wyvern, but her lance was so small compared to the creature, she wondered if it had hurt it at all. Instead of rounding on Marle, it spun, flinging it's tail at the young recruit, launching her into a rise of stone which acted, even looked like natural wall formation.
Marle could feel the air escape her lung as she landed with her back into the hard rock behind her, and slumped over, shaking visibly from the shock of the impact, trying to stand, but also trying to get ahold of herself.

As Marle was struck, Syana took her chance. As she darted forward, readying her sword as she ran. She had been watching for the perfect place to attack and had finally found it. At first she had considered it's wings, as they would be fairly easy to cut through, but she had changed her mind. It would take a great jump to reach them, and then she'd be completely exposed. Looked like Saturos was rubbing off after all.
Instead, she took her cue from Marle. She noticed that the Wyvern relied on it's tail to attack on two fronts at once, so it seemed like a good place to start. Remove it, and it would have to turn to attack, leaving its back vulnerable to someone. Putting all the force she could into it, Syana swung at the tail, leaving what she felt was a pretty decent gash in it. Before she could slash again, however, it counted with its tail, sending her back like it had the recruit. Hopefully though, she though, they were one step closer to beating it.
