He tried to hide a coy smile as he blushed from her comment. There wasn't many people his age from where he was from, and all the girls were either old women or children. So he felt, well, embarrassed. "Erm. I- I should... I should go ready, my, um, things." He awkwardly stumbled over himself as he rose from the table. Looking at the scruffy man, who also appeared to be coming along, he thought for a moment before speaking. "The bath is, um, top of the stairs to the... the left." He told him, still a bit red from the Archer girl. He had stayed here for a while now, and he knew what was where in a basic sense.
He had stayed in the guestroom in the time he was there, and his things were there. His books, his pencils, and most importantly his sword. It wouldn't do to tote his sword around while doing mundane work, so he kept it put away with the rest of this things. That blade was his most prized possession, and was proof of what he could do if he put his mind to it. The only weapon he completely made by himself, though with more resources available the average smith has.
That reminded him, he was going to tell Mr and Mrs. Calderon he was done for the day before being sidetracked by... by an archer. He found the mother of the home cooking fish, she loved to make fish. "Mrs... Mrs. Calderon?"
"Oh Valcrist is that you?" She asked, not turning from her cooking. "Did you meet my sons?"
"I met Kelvin." He said plainly. "Merio has eluded my sights."
"Yes yes, he should be in his room resting. Now I assume you are done with Lightning, or else you wouldn't even be in here. Well wash up and get ready, I'm almost done cooking." She told him in rapid fire. "And be careful, you almost tripped and cracked your skull open the other day. I don't want that happening again, I swear you're as bad as Kelvin."
It appeared that Valcrist arrived at an awkward time in Mrs. Calderon's life. With her children gone, she kind of treated Valcrist as a replacement child. She would fret over what he did, feed him until he burst, and act more like a mother then a employer. Mr. Calderon was more of a boss to him, and he could feel that. He was more laid back, less frantic then the madam Calderon. "Actually... I wanted to tell you..." He paused to think of the right words, but instead he had to go with whatever he could muster. "I think I'm going to be leaving with them..."
She suddenly stopped. "What?"
"I just wanted to stop by and thank you for all you did for me, but if they'll have me I think I'll go with them." He smiled as he walked up next to her.
"Oh. I see." She simply said. He was unable to point out just what exactly she felt... It was almost disappointment. "Well if you're going to go... Make sure to help keep my boys safe. They're all I got. Merio has a good head on his shoulders, but Kelvin is reckless and always running into trouble for both him and Merio. And... it's been a pleasure having you Valcrist." She started out a bit sad, but that fade as she went one, eventually sounding a bit happy. "Anyways, still get yourself cleaned up. I won't have anyone leaving my house without a full belly, chop chop."
Valcrist smiled and nodded as he headed for his room.

Saffra had just arrived. Probably took her time wandering around the city, or looking around the castle courtyard. Gabriel managed to gave her a half-smile before leaving. "If you don't mind, I'd love to take a look at this tome before leaving" he said, holding Elfire in his hands.
The plaza had, in its center rather big circular water fountain, probably more a decoration than anything, but that could be helpful when putting out fires or during droughts. Sitting on the side of the fountain, he opened the tome completely absorbed by it's pages. He heard no sounds. Saw no one walking by. Not even the running water could be heard. It had always been that way. Nothing could stand between him and books when he liked a reading.
The book seemed like it went on where the Fire book had left off, as if being part of a collection of some sort. They were probably written as a two-part or three-part lesson on how to control fire.
So if I do this, then I can... He stood up. Once he made sure that no one was close enough to be hurt, he raised his right hand, while holding the tome on his left. "Flames of inferno, engulf reality and bring all to ash and ruin!" two pillars of fire burst from next to his legs, rising upwards above head before fusing into a ball of fire bigger than his head. He kept it afloat, not intending to let it go and burn something. It felt...hot. His own hand was burning.
"Waaah!" he screamed, the ball of fire turning into thin air as he nearly submerged the entirety of his arm into the fountain's water.
"That...shouldn't have happened. Maybe I should finish reading the book before trying that again" he said sighing, as he fell to the floor and let his back rest against the fountain wall.

Harlow thanked the young man who had pointed him towards the bath. A timid young chap, or so he seemed, probably a household servant or hired hand. No matter. As he shuffled up the stairs he mulled over the conversation he'd just had with Kelvin.
"Did I really just agree to enlist in Caelin's army?" he asked himself. Of course, he hadn't actually said yes. But he knew he'd already decided. Strange that the knight had asked him to join up only a few moments after meeting him, but good fighters were in high demand these days, and most mercenary groups were pretty quick to hire potential soldiers, and they'd drop them just as quick if they proved useless. Harlow would make sure he proved valuable.
Here he was, first door on the left. He stared at himself in the little mirror, taking in the reflection of his ill-groomed face. "Gad, what a mess. Boy am I glad I found a place to clean up." It occurred to him that his appearance was no less messy than the rest of his life right now. But hopefully that was about to change, if this new job turned out all right. This could be a chance to make a fresh start, do something worthwhile that didn't fall apart. Maybe a quick wash would serve as a symbol of his personal renewal. "Yes, Harlow, it's time to get you back in the game" he said to himself, dipping his hands into a nearby basin of water and running splashing it over his face and hair.
A few minutes later, he was looking fairly well groomed and feeling pretty spry. He grinned to himself and headed for the stairs. The smell of that fish frying was growing more irresistible by the minute.

Chelsea watched the two men leave. Sure was an exciting place, she had to admit. She wondered if it was always like this around here. The archer turned to Kelvin and smiled. "You have a pretty exciting place here." She hopped up and went over to the cavalier. There was something about seeing him among his family that made him seem... different. She bounced lightly on the balls of her feet as she looked up at him, trying to figure it out. She couldn't put her finger on it, but she was pretty sure she liked it.

Kelvin chuckled a little a Chelsea's comment. "If you think it's exciting now, you should have seen it when me and Kelvin were kids. That was just crazy," he said, smiling at his memories. Kelvin began to think about what his kids would be like when he had kids. He wondered if they would be reckless and crazy like him, or serious and thoughtful like his brother? Or perhaps they would be like they're mother, Che... Kelvin cut his thoughts off there. He was even reckless in his thoughts.

Chelsea kept bouncing lightly in front of Kelvin, her head tilted to the side. Why wouldn't she figure it out? It was starting to annoy her. She stared at him, trying to figure it out. When she realized what she was doing, she quickly looked away and blushed. She was being silly. She would figure it out in time. Maybe she was starting to like him? She had no idea. She just knew she hadn't felt this before. Perhaps she was just hungry? Her stomach did growl. She sat back down and waited for her fish quietly.

A little while later, Kelvin's mother emerged from the kitchen with a steaming plate of fish, complete with boiled potatoes. They all sat around the table, and food was passed around. Kelvin grinned happily as a big heaping plate of fish was placed in front of him. He nudged Chelsea next to him, "You're in for some good eating. My mother's cooking is delicious."

The archer gave him a smile. "It smells like it." She started to eat and soon realized Kelvin was telling the truth. She couldn't remember the last time she had eaten something this good. Trying not to seem enthusiastic, she quickly ate her fish and potatoes right up. Blushing slightly, she took a second helping and started to eat again. The last time she had ate something this good was when he mother had been able to cook. So a long time.

Val finished cleaning his self up, changing into a less dirty shirt, and had most of his personal items all together in a bag. He didn't have much, being a traveler, but he had a sketchbook and a small case of charcoal he liked to bring with him, along with a few books that he took with him from place to place. That, some medicine, his sword, and an extra change of clothes is all he had.
He had it all neatly packed in a bag that he left at the doorway, and by the smell and commotion he could tell the fish was done. He went into the kitchen, his sword strapped to his hip in a very unflattering sheath. A leather cloth was strapped to the end near his hand, obstructing the view of the hilt, but was easily removed if he had to draw it. It was best most people didn't see the sword, he'd have more then a few thieves target him otherwise.
Sitting at the table, he gave a nervous glance to Chelsea then looked at Kelvin. A plate was sat in front of him as well when he sat down. "Thank you Mrs. Calderon." He said politely before he started to eat.

Kelvin finished his third plate of fish, and sat back. He was pretty full now, and he excused himself from the table. He walked out the pasture and Kashmir came trotting up to him. Kelvin fed him an apple he had grabbed from the house. He had missed these horses, and it seemed like Valcrist had been taking good care of these horses. He would have to thank him later.

Chelsea waited a few minutes before excusing herself too. She slipped outside and looked around for Kelvin. When she finally spotted him, she had to give a little smile. He was so good with the horses. She stayed watching for a few minutes before she moved over to him. The archer walked up quietly behind him and tapped him on the shoulder. "Hey."

Kelvin turned around to face Chelsea. He gave her a big smile and said,"Hey! Did you enjoy the food? Isn't this place wonderful?" Kelvin couldn't remember a time when he was happier. Everything couldn't be better. He was home, with people he really cared for, and his belly was full of delicious food.

The archer couldn't help but laugh. "Yes, the food was amazing. And yes it is wonderful. If I couldn't have grown up on the plains, I'd have wanted to grow up in a place like this." She looked around happily, taking in the horses and the view and the horses. She noticed Spirit racing around with another of the horses and smiled again. This place was so... peaceful.
Chelsea turned back to Kelvin. The cavalier looked happy to be home. His happiness was infectious and she soon felt herself smiling too. It was... nice.

Quickly Valcrist found himself alone. No cute archer girl, no son of his bosses, and no scruffy man from before. Instead he pushed the boiled potatoes around on his plate, feeling a bit awkward. The two left a bit ago, and he could understand. Afterall he was just some random kid working on the ranch, not a friend, not even an associate.
He finished his food and stood up from the table, gripping the leather cover on his sword with his left hand absentmindedly. Moving, he slung his bag over his shoulder and walked a bit around the house. Maybe a little sad to leave, maybe not.
He left the house and sat with crossed legs on the porch of the ranch, waiting for them to leave so he can follow them. Follow them to their group, so he can, more or less, beg to come along.

Watched Gabriel's fiasco, and jumped forward when he lit himself on fire.
"Mother of-!" he cursed. "Are you alright Gabe?" He called as the mage started to shake his arm off of the water, it would appear so.
"Jeez...magic sure is a dangerous weapon. Don't go running in half cocked with no idea how to wield a new weapon! That's a good way to get killed, you should probably practice first."
