Gabbiano laughed, taking a breath at the same time. "Yeah, well, gotta do something to confuse the enemy and seem intimidating every now and then, aye?" Upon slowly looking up, he saw Marle closing the distance.
He bellowed again into the night, realizing what she was doing. However, it so happened to be too late for Gabbiano to guard his legs. He jumped, avoiding the lance but falling right into the trap. He closed his eyes and laughed again, and as the lance swept his legs, he hit the ground hard.
"Mm, should've seen that one coming. But alas, in the dark, there's not much to be done about it..." Gabbiano groaned and pulled himself off his ass.
He paced, studying her, and clearly he was out of breath from the fall. He shook his head and chuckled. "I needed this, so thank you." He twirled his blade in his hand, then held it at a reverse grip. "I'm clearly outmatched. The lance trick you pulled, very clever indeed." He giggled at himself. "Hopefully I won't fall for the same trick twice."
He advanced slowly, then picked up speed. He came with his blade, reverse, swinging wildly and carelessly at her side. He called out loudly, "I'm slacking now, geez..."

As Gabbiano fell, she could hardly believe it worked. She thanked the conditions of the night, but she knew that Gabbiano would not have fallen for it if there were light out. he was intelligent, and knew how to fight instinctively, that she could tell. Nodding her head to him as he got up in thanks, she slowly paced with him, circling, in a sense. She didn't want to be caught standing still, but footwork was everything for her, almost. She had to be a sturdy bulwark to fend off attacks.
"Don't worry Gabbiano, you are skilled, don't have doubts about it."
When the man launched his assault, the furry of blades was..confusing, especially with that small blade, it was hard to judge distance, even with the clear moonlight. She could see the flash of metal that the blade made only because of the light of the moon, and so, properly defended herself, using the lance almost like a staff. Metal rang in the night as she blocked and parried blows alike with her long weapon.
With a strike coming forwards, Marle actually side stepped around the blow, and moved forwards, right next to Gabbiano, bringing the back end of her lance around, and snapping it back to hit him just behind the right calf with the butt of it. Sadly though, during this, as she moved by him, that blade did graze her arm a bit, cutting the fabric, and actually cutting her arm a bit. Taking a few steps back, she nursed her wound a little, swearing and cussing like a sour mouthed pirate.

Gabbiano noted that she was parrying his attacks effectively, and it was a waste of energy to rush her like that. "Hmph," He said to himself, continuing his assault.
As she sidestepped, Gabbiano groaned. He assumed what was about to happen. As he watched his blade leave a cut on her, he was both surprised and confused. But then, he was taken by surprise.
The butt of the lance hit his leg and felt like flame. He flipped backward, as the speed of the incoming lance was more powerful than his stance. He hit the ground hard, his head making first contact, and his blade flew, twirling in the air, and landing hilt-up in the ground.
Gabbiano groaned again, laughing at himself. "Man, that was rough." He rolled over slowly, waving his hand, and upon standing up, he rubbed the back of his head. "I'm disoriented. Give me a moment." He chuckled. He realized that his blade was missing, then spotted it in the ground. He closed his eyes and smiled, clearly amused.
"Looks as if you've won, friend. In a real fight, I'd be dead at this moment. Kudos." He winked to her, then unsteadily walked over to pick up his blade. Clearly, he wanted the battle to end as well, because he dug it out of the ground and re-sheathed it. He pulled his cloak back over him, concealing the weapon.
He breathed heavily and watched her. "Thanks for that, it was fun."

Balthier kept a distance. A good distance, he thought, and out of sight. There were two figures, one with a lance, swiping away, clearly winning, and...
..There was a smaller, oddly shaped blade. The style of fighting, the way it was handled, clearly the figure with the cloak in the dark was...
Balthier hesitated. "Gabbiano?"

The cut wasn't even that bad, she was just more surprised at the bit of pain it created than the pain it inflicted. It was small potatoes to wounds she had received before. Releasing her arm, Marle rested the lance against her shoulder, allowing it to prop against her while she rubbed her hands together a little. The days were warm, but the nights got a bit chilled as she was figuring out now. There wasn't a time to notice it, from her recent activities had kept her warm through the exercise.
"Perhaps.."
Marle looked at the blade as Gabbiano took it from the ground, and frowned at it. Clapping her hands together once, she picked up her lance and kept it's point towards the ground.
"Use that speed properly, and fine tune your aim, my armor would mean nothing. Speed is your greatest weapon in those situations...and tact."
Yawning quietly, she rubbed one of her eyes, and was startled. She heard a vice. Not what it said, but a voice she didn't recognize. Preparing herself, she grabbed her weapon with both hands, an pointed it in the direction she heard the interloper's sound come from.
"Spying isn't a proper thing this time of night...come on out."

"Indeed, speed is a most valuable asset." Gabbiano said, pacing himself, almost circling her and watching her movements, as if he would actually strike again.
Then, she raised her lance, calling, and Gabbiano jumped back and quickly drew his blade again. He was tired, but he wasn't too tired to hold back an invader in the dark. Especially not one that... wait.
"Who are you?" Gabbiano asked calmly. "I'm no priest, but I sense no malice... you aren't from around here, are you?" He sheathed his blade, and motioned for Marle to lower her lance.
He stepped closer, shaking his head trying to rid himself of the sweat. "Well?"

OoC: I figure since he's my character, I can NPC him, right? O.O
IC: Balthier chuckled, and stepped forward into the eye range of the two warriors. "Hmph," He said aloud, waving a hand. "Lower your weapon, I'm not here to hurt you." He flushed his cape, and it seemed that it caught the thief's attention.
"That's..."
Balthier laughed again, regarding the thief. "Yes, I do happen to be from around here. My name is Balthier, a wanderer in search of wisdom and knowledge. You, my friend, seem to be my kin..." He stopped, tilting his head, then regarded the knight.
"You're his companion, no? Why spar our here in the night? You two ought to be asleep." He glared at the knight, clearly very wary of her.
He paced a bit, turning to Gabbiano. "My mother and father - your mother and father, actually, journeyed to Ilia shortly after I was born. However, they favored me, and made it seem as if you were an only child. Father, as I hear it, abused you much and you retreated from his company shortly after you were old enough to do so." He glared at Gabbiano, flicking his cape. "After you left, I came back, and we returned to Santaruz. When I was old enough to leave, I did so, and joined company with one called Cebrail. We returned to Santaruz to petition aid from the Marquess, who denied it and almost had me killed." He laughed a bit, amused at his own situation.
"Enough about that. For a while, I've heard that I had a kin. A brother, I hear. You must be him, no? Mother and Father never had it that I met you." Balthier did not offer his hand. "I've journeyed from Santaruz to find you. Hello, my brother." He said quietly, and then bellowed into the night.
Gabbiano winced, and that was all that was said before he took a defensive stance.
Balthier raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Hm, you're certainly wise enough to take me on. Not here, not now. You wouldn't, would you?" Balthier was amused, not scared.
Gabbiano grit his teeth and relaxed. "You let Father do what he wanted? You didn't try to stop it? You didn't even try to make yourself known to me... I have nothing to say to you, Balthier, supposed brother. You may as well leave."
Balthier laughed and approached again. "I have nowhere else to go, friend." He turned to the knight. "You would not let him simply dismiss me, would you?" He winked at her jokingly. "He is my brother, after all."
Gabbiano turned to him silently, and glared. He spoke shortly after, biting his lip. "Don't think this is over. Technically speaking, however, I am still on a mission. Now is not the time, nor the place, for such talk. When I am done here, we will speak of this." He raised a hand towards Balthier.
"Hmph." Balthier said again, stepping back. "Well, suppose it's your call." He turned, flicking his cape, and walked off. "I'll be on the hill." He laughed loudly, letting it echo back to where they stood.

"Hurt me? Not exactly the first thing I was worried about."
Marle gave a cheeky grin, but lowered her weapon all the same. She took a relaxed, backseat approach to the whole thing. Marle knew she wasn't the prime concern here, and really...nothing good came about meddling in family affairs where you didn't belong...so..she watched and listened.
The exchange was interesting, but she didn't understand the half of it, and didn't really try. She was no trustee, and didn't wish to be, that was just awkward. Shying away a little while the two had their argument, until she was brought back into the loop between Gabbiano and Balthier. Looking to the robed man, she pushed back some of her hair in an attempt to see him better but it didn't little good.
"Hmm..? I am not his keeper, and this is strictly between the two of you. Don't expect me to air out and clean your dirty laundry."
Marle paused a moment to think over the words she chose, and then casually shrugged.
"Gabbiano isn't one of my soldiers, and neither are you. This is not my country, and I have no authority except over those I command. Do what you wish, but expect no aid from me on family related matters. That, I have no interest in."
Everyone was departing now, and she decided it was for the best to get some sleep. She was pretty tired now, so it would come rather quick.

OoC: Sorry, abrupt end, but definitely not sticking with this idea.
IC: Balthier tilted his head and grinned. "Hmph, aggression. You're no pushover much like those I was previously with." He turned away from her, and to Gabbiano.
"You must rest as well. I simply wanted to meet you is all, and I see it is a bad idea to stick around. Nice to meet you, brother, however you may feel. Send a letter should you need me, you'd be surprised how well acquitted I am with the messenger chain." He winked at his brother, and ran off.
"Farewell!" He called back.

Gabbiano clenched his fist, saying nothing, as the purple-haired mage left their presence.
Quietly, he spoke up. "He traveled all that way to see me, only to tell me he knew of what Father had done. What a bastard..." He relaxed his hands, shrugging, and sighed. "I'm sorry Marle, I did not intend for such a... surprising experience. You need sleep, and I should allow you do so." He lowered his head. "I'm not your soldier, as you said, so I will return to the hill."
He turned, pulling over his cloak. "Goodnight, my friend." He called back, and made it to the hill. He fell asleep wonderfully until morning.

Marle didn't realize she had spoken aggressively, until she thought back upon her words, and then, again, shrugged apathetically. She wasn't int a serious mindset right now, and this was all trivial...she had her own damn family issues to attend to, damn it! Shaking her head and giving a wave of her hand as a dismissing gesture, the young knight kept her eyes on the garbed man as he disappeared into the distance. Perhaps she wouldn't see him for the rest of this journey, but that would be something to find out another time.
"Don't worry about it Gabbiano, it's none of my concern...goodnight."
Stifling a yawn, she proceeded back to the camp, and saw a sentry on duty. The young woman didn't seem to see her, as stupid as that was, considering that Marle was coming from the front. Upon getting close, she could see that the girl was asleep, and Marle, with a sigh, clenched her fist, and gave a quick jab at her lower ribs, which elicited a startled, awakening yelp of surprise. The soldier fell backwards onto her bottom, and looked up in fright, and relaxed a little seeing Marle above her.
"Don't do that again.."
"Y-Yes Ma'am.."
Getting to her feet all on her own, the soldier watched as Marle went to her tent, where she began to undress and get ready for bed. Hopefully, the next day's journey will go along more smoothly.

Gabbiano crashed on the hill awkwardly, and sighed heavily. He rolled over on his side, and found that he couldn't get to sleep easily.
Naturally, there was a lot on his mind. Not only that, Gabbiano worried that he'd done enough to piss his comrade off. Irregardless of his current situation, he groaned, and forced himself to go to sleep...
--
Morning came quickly enough, seeing as Gabbiano had been up for half the previous night. The sun gently kissed the sky, turning the atmosphere a beautiful pink, and Gabbiano rolled over. He made himself stand up, and he adjusted his blade and his cloak. Gabbiano brushed himself off nicely, and proceeded down the hill and towards the campsite.

As Gabbiano proceeded down the hill, and came to where the camp sight had been, things were mighty busy. Almost all of the tents had been taken down and put back onto the horses and people's backs. Fires out, and soldiers ready for another days march through the low grasslands. Marle was busy with three other soldiers, two of which were the pegasus riders.
They were all huddled together, overlooking a map of Sacae. It was all rather casual, nothing much to discuss really. Nodding her head to one of the soldiers as they brought up a remark about something, Marle peeked over one of the younger girl's heads, and saw Gabbiano, offering a wave.
"Okay, we're done here, watch from the skies, and tell us what's going on up ahead, like usual, girls."
Offering salutes, in which Marle returned, she sighed and adjusted the weighty armor on her body. It was nice having it off for a day, but to have it back on now felt strange.
"So, ready to go? Got fresh legs?"

OOC: Sorry it's so short.
IC: Gabbiano rolled his neck and stretched his back as he approached the busy camp. He sighed heavily and jumped once, to be sure he was up and ready to go.
He laughed a bit. "Yeah, fresh as they'll ever be. On your leave."

Looking Gabbiano up and down for a second, Marle handed her lance off to a soldier, as she reached down and picked up a back of her belongings, and slinging it over her shoulder. Once finished, she retrieved her weapon, and gave a nod of thanks to the young man.
"Well, guess we better get going, it's not that far to our destination, a good day or two, depending if we push it."
Grinning a little, she headed to the front of the column. signaling the advance.
"Okay, we got a lot of ground to cover, lets get it done.."
And with that, they were off once more.
OoC: I'm stopping the topic here. If you'd like to post Gabbiano, about you coming with, or coming with a little down the roads, and breaking off, or whatever, go ahead and do so. I won't be doing anything until A Chance in Hell is over, or atleast the battle part.
