Ilia... land of snow. As you should know, white has always been bffs with red. He was perfect here! His red clad cloak stood out harshly against the snowy landscape, there should be artists out here capturing this perfect image of beauty! They could put it in all of his books he'll have about him. He'll be like Crowley, but only a mage! A Crimson mage!
Instead, however, all that greeted the mage was wind. Cold wind. Cold mean wind that made him clutch his cape closely to his body, shivering as he walked against it. His map that he checked minutely showed that there was a small town in the direction he was going. Hopefully.... The Crimson Adventurer didn't like this cold, he preferred it more red. He didn't see much except the snow, some trees, snow, a mountain or two in the distance, snow, snow, what looks like a cave, oh and snow.
With a flat look on his face, he trudged against the wind. His eyes squinted, trying to the keep the kicked up snow from blowing right in his face. It wasn't working. Still, he didn't have much choice. It was either keep on moving until he hit town, or to break for the day in that cave. One would think the cave was a better idea, one would be wrong. A cave is so... bleh. What's a better picture? A tired exhausted adventurer arriving at the dead of night with an urgent message, and instantly rushed to an inn to rest? Or a perfectly fine and rested man arriving mid day?
Exactly. It may be dumb, but dang it, it was dramatic!

"Pa! Pa!" The girl squeaks as she rushes into the house. A somewhat tired looking and balding man turns to the little girl with a weary smile as she enters, putting his book down with a slight laugh.
"What is it darlin?" He asks the little girl as she hops around happily. She begins kicking off snow covered boots and taking off a thick leather coat, talking rapidly as she works her way down to a more appropriate set of clothes.
"Pa! I had the best time!" She giggles lightly. The man nods with a slight smile, but his gaze clearly say he wasn't really paying all that much attention. "I made a snow angel, and Cynthia told me all about this one thing that her father brought back with him from his trip to Bern it was colorful and pretty and I really liked it I want to get one day pa. I don't remember what she said it was called, but it looked like a little glass dragon that was green and red and blue and was really cool. One day I'm going to meet a dragon myself!" She was all around cheerful, and her face bright red from the cold winds outside.
"Me Cynthia and Kyle played adventurers and we went on a journey to find the fire emblem so we could take down the evil dragon king, I was the super powerful pegasus rider and I stabbed them all to bits with my Malte, and I was all hah hah and beat up all the bad guys!" She gestured wildly, imitating the movements of stabbing with a lance.
"That's wonderful darling." Her father sounded interested in her tale, even if he wasn't really.
"I know right? I'm going to be an adventurer one day!" She posed emphatically. "Me and Kyle went off and we even found this weird red thing in the snow! He dared me to poke it with a stick, so I did and it wiggled. It was soooo weird. And then me and Cynthia went off to fight the evil king of dragons to...." She blathered on more of and more, but something caught the man's attention.
"A weird red thing? Alice, just what was this?"
"Oh that? I dunno. But it was kinda scary actually. I though it was a monster at first!" She opened her arms wide and began to try and look like a monster, but that wasn't what her father was concerned with. There has been talk of bandit attacks in the region...
"Alice, stay here with your mother." He swiftly stood up, and took his sword he had hidden behind the bookcase out. "Tell me, just where did you see this thing?"

The limp teenager was laying silently in the bed of this mysterious stranger and his family. Covered in a small mountain of blankets, he still shivered as the cold cut to the bone. He was out of his red robes, sopping wet from the melted snow, and in something a bit more practical and warm. A middle aged woman was near the bed, a broom in hand and sweeping up dust clouds off of the wooden floor while a warm and inviting flame slowly burned in the not far away in the fireplace. The young girl to be praised for finding him was standing near the head of the bed, staring intently down at the unconscious figure with wide... and somewhat creepy eyes. Another little girl and a young boy sat near her, not nearly as enthralled as Alice, but still curious over the man they found.
"Uhn..." Elias moaned in his sleep. His groan was blank, but chances were there was some crazy dream rushing around in his head while he slept, a dream he'd probably never recall.
"Uhn?" The little blond girl wondered as she stared intently. "I wonder if that's his name?"
"Alice, come on, he's not waking up. This is boring." The brown haired boy complained, he turned to the other little girl. "Cyyyynthiaaaa. Tell Alice to huuurrrryyy uuuuppp." He whined. "I have a really fun idea for an adventure today...." He pouted.
"No, we're going to wait till man guy here wakes up and then we're going to make him play with us." Alice said without missing a beat. She was a young girl, maybe eight years old. Long blond hair braided down and dark brown eyes, with the painfully adorable face that only a child could have.
"Alice..." The middle aged woman looked over to the girl. "When this boy wakes up, I want you to leave him alone. It looks like he had a rough time." He was about the same age as their son would have been... may he rest in peace. When she was taking those clothes off, she saw more then a few scars on his body. Poor thing...
"Ungh..." The voices seeped into his ears and his mind, slowly calling him back to the world of the living. He moaned again, his eyes slowly starting to flicker open. Sailing across that little line between awake and sleep, fuzzy shapes were starting to come into focus. The first thing his eyes caught glimpse of was a little girls dark brown eyes. It was hard not to, they were only inches away from his face.
"Ah!" He bolted back and to the wooden wall.
"Ah!" The little girl mirrors his reaction. "Hey... Hey ma! Ma! He's up! He's up Ma!"

"Thank you madam." Elias was sitting cross-legged on the bed, a warm serving of soup in his hands in a homely wooden bowl. A little girl was sitting on the floor not too far away from him, enjoying some soup herself, her friends had gone home a bit ago for lunch. He just stared down at his reflection in the dark brown liquid with chunks of... stuff floating in it...
It didn't look appetizing at all.
Still, it reminded him of home a bit. His father and mother never made things like this, but being in a warm house with a warm figure made him long for his little house in the middle of nowhere, just a little. "What's got a young man like you out here in the middle of nowhere?" The middle aged housewife sat in a chair turned towards him with a warm smile, she wasn't eating herself and it made Elias feel a bit imposing.
"Oh... I was..." He looked down again, feeling oddly sedate. "I'm traveling north to the ports to get a ride in a boat." Well, that's as far as he's gotten anyway.
"And you're traveling through this snow by yourself? How horrible!" She was taken aback by the boy's courage... and foolishness. She noticed the boy staring at his stew, and was a bit confused. "You should eat up, how long has it been since you've had a nice home cooked meal?"
Probably since that Shepherd's pie his mother made him right before he left... He scooped up a spoonful of the incredibly not red liquid and gulped it down. It wasn't bad, very starchy though. Lots of potato. "It's not... so bad. Mmph. I met, I met some other people the other day. It... It was nice. One of them was a cool woman in a lot of armor." Elias grinned as he gulped the soup down like a glutton.
"The other must of woken up on, like, the wrong side of every bed ever made across all existence and fell right on a stick and never removed it." He gestured with his spoon when it wasn't in his mouth.
The little girl stared quietly at the Crimson mage as he talked, a bit unsure of what to make of him. "Well, you're lucky Alice found you out in the snow or you'd never see those friends of yours again."
"Thanks Alli." He grinned widely like a fool, then again that was probably his default expression.

Elias lays on his back almost completely obscured by snow, a blade sticking out of his chest, he moves no more. "The evil red king has been defeated." His slayer speaks, her chest filled with pride. "And now I shall rule the land as Queen Alice, and will rule with a super nice hand and everyone will love me!"
"Psst..." The dead man hisses. "Pssssst. Alice."
"Quiet, you're dead." She stomps and glares at him.
"But I'm cold..."
"Quiet. Just wait a few more minutes." She whispered and turned back to the small crowd of children, about five or so. Each with some kind of toy weapon, except for one kid who Elias thought was supposed to be a mage or something. "Now, the general of my army will be Lady Cynthia, and head of smartyness is Sir Kyle. Master Erik will be leading the magic people, while miss Holly is the head of tasty food!" She gave out little positions for each of her friends.
"No one... Shall be..." A deep voice said. All the kids began to look around to try and find out where it came from. "Head of tasty food... but me!" Elias erupted from the pile of snow like some kind of zombie.
"Everyone! The evil red king came back to life! Now he's... uh... Kyle, what is he?" Alice turned to the boy who looked like a mage.
"The evil demon king red!" He announced and pointed dramatically.
"Oh no! He came back to life!" One of the kids exclaimed, the one with the slingshot. Probably supposed to be an archer. "Taste my Reinfleche!" This kid called dramatically.
"Maybe we should try to turn him back to normal. I know a super powerful healing spell that can fix him!" Another boy said.
"Hey, Erik we already agreed we're killing him again!" Kyle called the boy out.
"But my person learned the secret magic power from Elmine during the last battle when you all fighting." He said back, rather matter-of-factly.
"Hey, you need to ask before you do stuff like that. Only me or Alice can play as Elmine, she's a not play person." Erik pouted.
"Um... Guys? Rawr, demon king, I'm going to kill you all? Remember?" Elias was standing there with crossed arms and an annoyed look on his face.
"Oh yeah." Another girl said. She swings her wooden stick like a sword and yells, "This is for killing both my parents and burning my village."
"Hahahah pitiful mortals. Your weapons do nothing to the demonic might of King Red!" Elias called to the sky, arms spread wide apart and walking towards the kids like some stereotypical monster. He turns his head to an open area. "Watch as I BREATHE FIRE! (everyone get away)" He touches his fire tome in his cloak with one hand, and brings the other close to his mouth. He takes a deep breath, mutters something quickly and quietly, and unleashes a fire spell that looks like it was just breathed from his mouth. It hit the ground and melted all the snow around it, he then turned to the kids to see them all staring in awe. "Rahahaha! You'll be next little piglets!"
"Oh yeah? We'll see about that! Malte, strike true!"

"Rargh! I'm gonna devour you all with some nutmeg and light salad on the side!" The evil king red roared, stomping around like the beast he was at heart. The downed legendary hero, Alice the Great and Awesome, would be no match for his mighty fire breath of doom! "Now surrender Alice. Surrender and together we will rule all of Elibe!" He had to say it, all villains did, it was like in the rule book or something.
"Never..." Alice sputtered out. "You'll never win... King Red..."
"And why is that, delicious little mortal?" The evil king laughed.
"Because!" She shouted, popping up like a daisy. "We have the ultimate power on our side!" She gestured to her defeated team.
"Darkness, right? It has to be darkness, it's darkness definately." The evil king nodded as he spoke.
"My family!" "My friends!" "My faith!" "My Magic!" "My cooking!" "My strategy!"
They all shouted out, getting up as well.
"What is this!?" He was completely taken aback. He thought he killed them all!
"We have... the power of LOVE!" She spouts the corn filled sentiment and lunges with her lance full of love, for the ultimate final blow of doom!
"Alice!" A unfamiliar voice shatters the illusion that is their game. No longer where they unstoppable warriors, but just a bunch of kids with sticks, slingshots, and normal books. The voice came a bit away, and caused the brown cloaked Elias to turn his head in surprise.
"Pa? What... what's wrong?" Alice sounded shocked, and for good reason, her father was holding his sword. Not to mention a few other adults were also holding weapons and trying to shoo the kids in.
"Just get inside with your mother, and don't come out for anything!" He snapped at her, and she ran straight away without a single word of fight. Elias swore he could see her starting to cry just before she ran, leaving the legendary stick Malte behind. "The rest of you, get inside as well. Get to your parents!"
He quickly turned his head to Elias. "Boy, can you fight?"
"Of... of course. I'm the Crims-"
"Great, help us. Aaron spotted some bandits on the far side of the village. Little places like this are just ignored by the knights, we have to protect this place ourselves. Only, we can barely do that... we're just sitting ducks..." The man just looked ahead, transfixed on some invisible thing Elias couldn't quite see.
"Sir?" Elias looked at him, but the man just shook his head. "It's nothing kid. Don't get yourself killed now, I would of never even dreamed of asking a boy like you if it wasn't a true emergency. I know we can't do it by ourselves. What do you use boy?"
"I have a fire tome. I'm a mage."
"A mage so young? I hope you're good with that book boy, if so you could be exactly what we need. Stay back, and fire from afar."
"Y-yes."

It was almost instantly obvious where these bandits came from. They were the remains of that army that attacked the Ilian outpost the other day. Where Elias burst in to save the day, only to flub up and be less effective then he had hoped. He almost felt a bit guilty over the fact that he was partially responsible for this, if he'd just kill all the villains then these poor citizens wouldn't need to live in fear. However, he could make it all up today. The Crimson Mage would save the day! He had to, it was his responsibility.
"Kid, stop daydreaming!" Arthur, Alice's father, yelled at him. He was currently struggling to hold an axe back as he grunted under the force of the weapon. "Fire!"
"Feel the heat! Crimson flare!" He let loose a sphere of flame that caught the bandit right in the face, colliding from up high. He lived, but didn't have anymore eyebrows. Also he looked totally mad. Before he could even retaliate, Arthur pushed with his blade, sending him staggering back. This was when a swift strike cut the bandit right across chest, Arthur holding the bloody blade as the man fell. "Are you alrig-"
"I'm fine boy. This isn't my first fight." The middle-aged man said, almost pathetically. "Though I turned in my shield years ago."
Not quite a citizen is he? Probably a retired hero. Now Elias knew where Alice got her drive from. "Stay alert boy." The man spouted as he drew his blade up again, "There's many more." He turned to look a somewhat portly man stumble with a lance. "Harris needs our help. Come on boy!"

"Gah!" Elias grunted in pain, holding his wound. Taken a bit aback by the sudden axeman, one who had went around Arthur's defense to strike directly at his squishy supporter. The axe was too fast for Elias to move in time, especially since he was distracted by the man Arthur was trying to hold off in the first place. Stupid bandits, they weren't supposed to be smart! They were supposed to funnel in and get themselves killed by the Sword of Crimson combo!
"Boy are yo- Urgh." Arthur looked away for a second to see Elias, but his attention was instantly redrawn to the man attacking him. He blocked the axe strike with his blade, he couldn't take time to look away.
"Ah, I know dis li'l boy." The bandit said in his broken english, the kind that only bandits seemed to have. Interesting phenomenon really. "Hes da one who dastroyed da fort on our men! I recognize dat stoopid red hair anywhere." he said with a disturbing grin.
"You deserved it villain!" Elias spouted back at him.
"Ah, im not mad. Infact I shuld tank you boy." He laughed. "Cuz of dat, we get more loot since we don't gotta share." It was almost... disturbing on how he viewed dead brethren a good thing. Truly this was a villain for the books.
"Well... You're welcome then?"
"I've had enough of this." Arthur spouted, pushing his foe back. He tossed the blade high in the air and burst from the spot, grabbing it middair and bringing it crashing into the bandit's thick skull. With no "Urgh gross" either, clearly he was a stronger man then Elias. He would be grossed out over getting brain all over his shiny sword. That's one of the many many reasons why magic was clearly so much superior. "You're next." Arthur pointed the bloodied sword at the bandit that attack and talked to Elias. A sphere of flame collided into him as he watched Arthur, knocking him away, and Arthur followed it up by impaling the bandit on his blade. He wasn't just good... he was really good. "Are you alright boy?" He asked, shaking his weapon hard to get some of the blood off. Staining to already bloodied snow further.
"It'll take much more then this to stop the Crimson Mage." Elias smiled widely with a small laugh.
"Good to hear."

"Come on, we need to move." Arthur scolded.
"But..." Elias hesitated, looking at the mess in front of him.
"He knew when he came out here that this might happen. He did it to save his family. To protect his child and wife. It will just be in vain if we let these monsters get to them. It's the least you can do to help." Arthur spoke quickly, urgently, but still had a soft edge of caring in his voice. He knew from the moment he saw the kid, that he wouldn't be too good around death... Mages were especially bad with death. They killed with supernatural forces, not with weapons. They got no blood on their hands, not like a swordsman.
"Alright..." He couldn't save this citizen, but he had to keep trying to save as many people as possible! This was his promise as The Crimson Mage! Still he bowed his head, just for a moment. "Rest in peace Harris." It was that portly man mishandling a lance earlier. He smiled and thanked Elias just minutes ago. The fact he was dead was... hard. Usually the only people who die are those at the other end of his explosion filled magic.
"Come on, I saw Erik struggling a bit earlier. We should hurry over there to make sure he lives through this." Arthur told Elias and rushed from the spot. He moved like a man half his age, it was almost surprising such a skilled fighter existed in this little rundown village.
"Ok. You can count of me." I'll save him and protect everyone! This is my promise!

"Flames of death burn brilliantly! Fire!" He added his own little incantation to his spell. This particular one didn't need one, only the more technical spells used incantations, that didn't stop him from making one up and passing it off for real. No one questions a mage, they're willing to believe most things. The fire fell from the sky and crashed into his target, Elias twirled on the spot and gathered up the magic for a second spell while the man charge towards him.
"Too slow! Fire!" A second blast knocked him back, into a drift of snow. It made a bandit sized hole! It was kinda funny actually. Still, after casting the spell he couldn't help by grasp at his wound with a slight grunt.
"Are you alright boy?" Arthur turned his head as his foe fell.
"Y-yeah. I'm fine." He wasn't fine. It wasn't the deepest wound, but with him running around like a five years old with a sugar rush wasn't helping him. His wounds from the bandit fortress weren't completely healed themselves anyway. He left before they could fully heal, and has done nothing but exert his self. Elias put 101% in absolutely everything he did.
"Good. We can't go stopping now." He moved the blade skillfully in his hand, switching the way he was holding it swiftly. "Are you alright Erik?"
"Y-yeah." The man was getting back to his feet, brushing the snow off of his pants. He picked up his bow from the ground and looked at the two. "Thanks Arthur, and you too... uh..."
"The Crimson Mage Elias." Elias corrected him.
"Elias." He nodded.
"Nono it's The Crimson Mage Elias. The title's very important you see."
"Oh, ok then. The Cri-"
"Now's not the time boy. Erik, you're injured, you should get inside." Arthur butted in and scolded both the men.
"Alright... Give them hell for me."

"Dammit, they're retreating." Arthur spat as he pushed a body off of his blade.
"That's good, right?" Elias tilted his head and asked the gruff man, the villains were supposed to flee once they say they stood no chance. That way the heroes would be victors, but without having to kill everyone. Heroes preferred it when villains fled, as long as they aren't hurting people, it shouldn't be no problem, right?
"No kid, that ain't good." He looked out at a fleeing man with weary eyes. "When they flee, they come back stronger the next day... They're like weeds. The harder you try to get rid of them, the more stubborn they are... and soon they'll suffocate all of us."
He spoke like if he has had experience... "What do you-"
"It's nothing kid. Don't worry about it... We made it out alive today atleast. Now we need to lick our wounds, I can't believe those bastards got Harris... I told him he wasn't cut out for fighting... What will I tell Lilah?" He began to mutter to his self. He turned away from the few fleeing fighters, it would be far too much effort to give chase. Especially with the amount of wounded the small village had.
"No, it's not over yet. A hero never gives up." Elias said solemnly. Arthur paid the boy no attention, until it was too late. The brown cloaked mage ran at top speeds, his wound beginning to bleed wildly from the exertion he was putting on his body. He'd faint from blood loss before this was all over.
"No, Elias, wait!"
A firespell swirled in Elias' outstretched hand. "Fear justice!" He shouted as loudly as his voice would carry. He's practiced his heroic cries a lot, so that should be far. A bandit turned only to have his vision forever blocked by the burning image of fire, namely a sphere of flame right to the face. The force knocked the unsuspecting bandit off his feet. But there was another, meaner looking axeman. He was holding a small axe, one designed to fit in one hand. Almost looking perfect to throw...
It came so quick, the mage could of never predicted it, a swirling axe flying through the air and thrown with perfect precision. It flew through the air, spinning with the force of the throw, and found it's new home... in the arm of the man who had helped him so much that day.
"Ungh... Kid... you're lucky this isn't... your head..." He struggled through the pain, his sword falling uselessly to the ground and right out of his hanging limp hand.
"Ar-Arthur..." The bandits got away, but that wasn't important right now.
"Get my wife... she's a healer..."

"You... want me to leave?" He felt an odd combination of ashamed and hurt.
"Yeah Elias." Arthur was laying in bed, his arm was pretty badly beat up. Even with healing, it would be a while before he could use it properly. He wouldn't even be able to swing a sword properly. He can't honestly be a hero in this position. "You have your own things to accomplish. I can't have you sticking around here."
"But you yourself said that when the bandits run they always come back stronger! Without you... this village is powerless. I have to stay!" Elias pleaded with the man. He surprised his self that he felt so strongly about this. He wanted to be a hero of course, but it was more then that, he didn't want these people to get hurt.
"A kid like you can't do anything."
"Uhn..." A simple sentence, yet it carried all the weight in the world. The impossible has happened, Elias was speechless.
"I love my home boy. But I love my family even more..." He looked away from the boy in red and brown. His eyes were limp, tired, he was tired of all of this. "We're moving to Arphen. We've been getting ready the last few days. If the knights won't come to us to help, we'll have to go to them..."
"Why won't the knights care?" Elias felt angry for a moment, surprised that he had almost screamed that last sentence. "I... I'm sorry." He quieted down.
"It's alright. It angers me as well. A poor village left defenseless and easy pickings for bandits. But... it can't be helped. The rebellions in that damn Bern split our military." He almost spat when he said 'Bern'.
"So... it's Bern then?" That's where Elias was before, all of a sudden it made more sense why he was fighting them. He almost regretted leaving now. "What about the rest of the town?"
Arthur shook his head with a solemn face. "We're all leaving. We're evacuating. I know this was the first time for you, but we've suffered attack after attack. Ten people have died since they started, twenty seven have been injured. We can't keep this up. We have to think of our children. We've been preparing for a while, but the attacks have slowed us down. We should be ready by this time next week. It'll take longer then that for them to recover from this beating. Especially if what you said about their army being devastated like it was."
"Elias, dear... I am touched by your desire to help, but you have to go on and continue with what you have to do, go meet your friends again." Alice's mother, Sarah, spoke calmly as she walked in the room. In her hands was a tray along with that homely wooden bowl Elias had used the other day. In it was a rag and hot water. "But... if after you're done with all that... you can come back and visit us in Arphen? We'd be more then happy to see you again." She smiled so calmly, so kind... just about the opposite of Elias' mother. He loved her, of course, but sometimes she was... er... 'abrasive'
"I... I see." He looked away a bit with a slight frown. He reached up to unbutton the cloak he was borrowing from the couple. One of Arthur's old ones, so he was told.
"No, that alright. You keep that, and keep yourself warm. What you had on before was deplorable for this weather... Speaking of that outfit, I've washed and sowed it up for you." She pulled the wet rag out of the steaming bowl and placed it on Arthur's wounded arm. He took in a sharp breath of air that eventually became a content sigh.
"Th-thank you Mrs. Gold." He suddenly felt something cling on to his body, and he looked down to see he had a human-shaped growth.
"You're not allowed to get hurt, I still haven't beat you up Red." Alice clung tightly with a hug. "You're going to come back, right? You have to promise you'll come back and play with me again. Promise me."
Elias' face eased into a calm grin, patting the girl on the head. "Of course Alice. I promise."
"Wait wait, I have something for you." She ran off with a smile, Elias gave a confused glance to her two parents who only responded with goofy and almost sheepish grins. She hurried back with a cheap plastic thing. "Here, take this!" She smiled widely.
"What... is it?" He held it up and looked at it, tilting his head.
"It's a ring! You have to keep it!" She smiled.
Arthur snickered. "Woah boy, you better take good care of my daughter."
"Huh?"
"Oh dear, I should start knitting a dress." Sarah added with another little laugh.
"What?"
"If you don't come back I'll never forgive you!" She stuck her tongue out in a very kiddish way,
"I don't..." Apparently, Elias was now engaged.
