After everyone had woken up, it was explained that the group was headed for Laus. And so they did. They made it there about noon, the Lycian sun beating upon their tired heads as they searched for somewhere to rest.
Their searching brought them to a cheap but respectable inn, where our story begins.
____________________________________________________
Morgoth wearily walked into the inn. Wow, I haven't been to an inn since...since Erturia, he thought with a grumble of his stomach. He walked up to the counter.
"I would like two rooms with one night board," Morgoth said to the inn keeper, flicking his hood of before talking. "And whatever your serving for lunch." He forked out the money the man required, and then tossed the extra room key to Joseph when he walked in.
Hmmm...where will you go now Morgoth? he quizzed himself as he sat at a table. You need allies to help with your plan. The pirate Joseph is very likely to join, but more are needed. It seems that most of them are following Gabriel on some mission. Erturia will go down with the rest, but why not scour somewhere else while others weaken them?

Chelsea walked into the inn with Kelvin after they had set the horses up in the stable. She held his hand happily, her sadness over Val leaving had long left. She still resolved to give him a good smack when she saw him, but she understood now he had to do his own thing. She hummed happily as she looked around the inn. She'd get to sleep in a read bed tonight, how exciting! "So Kelvin, we sharing a room?" She giggled giving him a little poke in the sides. "Or am I gonna have to sleep all by my lonesome?"

"We'll share a room. I wouldn't want you to be afraid, all alone in the dark," he joked, smirking and and giving her hand a little squeeze. They walked up to the counter and Kelvin adressed the inkeeper, "We'll need one room for two, board, lunch for two, and feed for two horses." The inkeeper grunted in reply and Kelvin handed him the money in exchange for their room key. They went upstairs and stopped at their room. The cavalier unlocked the door and looked at the room. It wasn't much, but they had a queen-sized bed, a chair in the corner and a small desk. Kelvin stepped inside and began taking off his armor. "You have no idea how uncomfortable this armor is," Kelvin commented as he slipped off his gauntlets and pauldrons. His breastplate followed along with his greaves and boots. He slipped on a pair of leather traveling boots. "That feels much better," he sighed as he kicked the armor into a corner and sat down on the bed.

Chelsea giggled as Kelvin complained about his armor. "That's why I travel light. Sure, it's less protection in battle but it's much easier to move!" She hopped up on the bed and started to jump around on it like a little kid. She never got tired of this, even if she rarely got to actually sleep on a real bed. She bounced a few more times before landing neatly on her butt and looking over at Kelvin with a big grin. "What do you wanna do, Mr. Cavalier?"

Gabriel fell back during the chat back into Laus and was one of the last few to enter town. Still, before others got ahead of him, he tried to warn them. Their last visit had gone terribly wrong, and chances were they were looking for those present at the fight. That meant Gabriel, Chelsea and Kelvin, given that the rest had split from the group at some point.
Gabriel made his way directly to the hospital, tying Starlight to a nearby post. "Be good, girl. I'll be back soon". Not long afterwards, he was talking to the city's Bishop. The priests and medics had been unable to help with his arm, though the successive attempts at healing it had made some of the pain disappear. "Are these...biting marks, my son?"
Gabriel nodded, silently. The old man got out an overly decorated staff and started waving it in the air while he chanted something. A bright light shone all throughout the room, enveloping both of them, along with nearby villagers and other members of the clergy.
The pain was gone, and the biting marks were no more. He was able to move his arm freely now, though it still felt a bit sore. "It's a matter of time, dear. I must say, though, it's been a while since I had to cast such a strong healing spell. What made those horrid biting marks?"
"Some wolves not far away from here. You should warn everyone. Those beasts are relentless, and very resistant."
Maybe I should go and check at that inn, now that this is out of the way...Wonder what would have happened had I taken any longer to get my arm healed?
He headed out of the church and went to the inn, stopping by a weapon shop on his way back.

Perseus walked into the inn and saw Morgoth. He ran over to Morgoth like a child saying: "Hi Morgyth!" still getting his name WRONG.
"Wanna share a room, since wer bestest buds?"
As he said this he noticed a boy and a girl giggling about something. Perseus thought (OoC: Oh wait, hold the phone! He was thinking? Never thought that would happen!)(BiC:) about this, What could dey be doin'? Did somebody do somin' funny?

Aaron wandered from the group, after confirming a rendezvous point. He might as well stay with them. After all, he really had nothing else to do, and they had the same goal of reporting the fate of Ostia... Except the news seemed to have spread faster than the original scout group could return to civilization.
Aaron's wandering was not aimless. Eventually, he made it to the city's library. He wasn't sure what kind of information he'd be able to get from it, but there were a few things nagging at him.
One was the odd set of carvings he'd seen in Roland's tomb. It had depicted, what exactly? A dragon sheltering some form of light? Or perhaps it was representative of something else? That's what Aaron was hoping to find out.
The other research item was a bit more immediate. What were these horrifying wolves, that were traveling the lands in packs? Had they been sighted before? If they had, why had he never heard of them before, and if they hadn't, why were they here now?
Aaron entered the library quickly, attempting to slip past without alerting anyone who may detain him. After all, for all he knew, special permission may be needed to enter the library. After he'd made it in, Aaron approached the desk of the library's attendant, speaking softly enough to avoid disturbing others. "I have a couple of things I need your help with, Master Librarian. I would like to see certain information I hope you've got on wolves. Specifically, odd breeds, even if it's only myths." That was one thing. Now for the next.
"I'd also like any resources you have on the War of the Scouring. information on dragons, and on Ostia" Another thought occurred to the scholarly inclined mage. "And anything on wolf-like creatures from the time of the scouring." If there's any chance at all that these two are connected, I've got to look into it. Plus, if I actually seem like I'm researching something official, perhaps they'll leave me be while I search.

Aaron would find the Head Librarian slightly bothered by the questions at first. "We've had royal and magical scholars asking about those wolf creatures for almost a full moon, there is no recorded information on them in any of the tomes that we posses here. Erturia is well known for it's records, they might know more, but good luck getting them to share in this day and age."
When questions of the Scouring came up, the librarian looked less annoyed. "Yes yes, we have many many tomes on the Scouring. I can show you where you may search to your hearts content master mage." He said, leading Aaron into a more secluded area of the library. "It is odd for one so young to take such interest in the legends so deep in the past, take your time and call if you need help finding something." He instructed.
In the books Aaron searched, he would find much rumor and theory, but several pieces of solid information pertaining to the questions he had.
For one thing, that light drawing was used many times over in the books, often with a depiction of a great female spellcaster of some sort. It was usually depicted as an aggressive light, but the carving Aaron had seen clearly showed it as covering something. Being a book on the Scouring and it's heroes, it would seem an obvious assumption that this mage was St. Elimine.
Digging more into her, he would find that apparently there was something of mystery carved on her tomb when she did die.
The beating of wings. Binds the king. When wings cease flight. Look towards the light. For light divine. Will brightly shine. When light is faint. By darkness taint. In the hearts of men. The king will rise again.
By the time Aaron gathered this information, the skies had grown dark outside. Night had fallen.

Morgoth's thoughts were interrupted by the buffoon Perseus. "We're not best buds, and no you can't share a room with me," he said with a forced straight face. The only thing keeping him from killing Perseus was the fact that there were others present. "Now what is it that you want? You obviously came over here for a reason."
He gave a sigh and rubbed his temple. This is one of the many reasons why I'm going to kill everyone, Morgoth thought. What Elimine sees in them I'll never know. The bartender called out to him and he went and fetched his food.

Aaron was somewhat set at ease that others had been looking into those wolves. He was far from the brightest, and if others were looking into the issue, that meant that there was at least some action being taken.
Was it really so odd for someone to take interest in the old stories? He'd always found tales of the past interesting, even if he now wished he had a better grasp on them than he turned out to have. After thanking the Librarian, he set to work.
The hours crept by, but the scholarly mage was unaware of the passage of this time. It was as if he'd been shut away, in his own world, and only the books and parchments existed for him.
Rubbing the stubble that was growing on his face, he absently decided to have a shave soon. Well, this is Elimine, and here is the drawing.... They're linked, but what's this verse about? The mage read, and reread it, trying to make sense of it, or connect it with anything he'd already read. "Beating of Wings"? "Binds the King?"... What King?... Dragons had wings. "Wings cease flight". There's wings again. He kept going, even though he had nothing concrete he was going on. "Look towards the light." Elimine was a light practitioner... or perhaps it means the church? Where was Elimine buried, anyway?
For light divine. Will brightly shine. When light is faint. By darkness taint. In the hearts of men. The king will rise again.
Aaron leaned back, his chair creaking quietly as he chewed on a knuckle in thought. He had many thoughts, all fairly wild. The context of "light" and "darkness" seemed to move into the use of expressions in this last bit, and he wasn't familiar with the language of the time to interpret it. What kind of light? What kind of taint...What King?
He looked over lazily at a window, and was shocked to see that it was dark. Just how long had he been in here? Oh, that long. He thought to himself as he felt his stiff legs resisting movement.
He scribbled down what he'd found on some parchment, and tucked that in his fire tome, for safety. Then he rose, and thanked the librarian for the help in locating everything, as he hurried out.
He was about to head to the inn they were meeting at, when he remembered the report he had to deliver. That turned his mood south. Not that anyone here had anything to do with it. He had to remember that.
Making his way to the gates of the castle, he gathered the attention of the guards there. "My name is Aaron Winsett, and I am part of the group of free men hired by Sir Denzel of Laus. We journeyed on a scouting mission to Ostia. Please, let me in to speak with the Marquess."
(OoC: I can do this myself, if none of the mods feel like it. Just give me a bit of direction.)

Gabriel eventually made it into the inn they had spotted at the city's entrance. Getting that arm healed had taken far longer than expected. It was dark by now, probably even past midnight. Now, if only he could meet Lucy, they could perhaps discuss a plan of action. But he looked for her while in the hospital to see if she was still there, to no avail. The mage knight was nowhere to be seen, and they had told him that she had left about half a week ago.
He got himself a room at the inn, but decided to stay in the bar part of the hotel, reading his new book. He'd have to get a hang of this thunder magic before next time, or else it'd serve as a blunt weapon, like his fire tome did the night before.
All that's left now is warning Laus of a possible, imminent attack, and then go back to Pherae. Victory will be ours, then...
He'd end up staying awake the whole night, still reading his Thunder tome, and only noticing it once everyone woke up the next morning.

"If you don't mind, I'm gonna take a walk down to the blacksmith. I need to pick up a new lance," Kelvin said standing up, and walking out the door. It was a nice, cool afternoon, and the cavalier took his time getting to the blacksmith. He lesiurely strolled into the shop, as a grizzly man emerged from the back. "Hello there! What can I do ya for?" the blacksmith said jovially. "I'm looking for a good quality lance, something light, and easy to use from horseback," Kelvin replied. The man's face brigthened, "Well it just so happens that my family's been making cavalier's lancrs for decades. Come on back, I've got just the thing." Kelvin followed the smith into the back. Sitting in the table was a beautiful lance. The tip had a slight golden tint and the shaft was a dark purple. He picked it up and jabbed with it a couple of times, "It's perfect!" he said as something else caught his eye. A few minutes later, Kelvin exited the shop, lance in hand, as he shoved a small package into his pocket, then started back to the inn

Aaron was taken into the castle and led to a room by a quad of guards. They seemed to be working for their money since things had blown up at the mage school.
There wasn't really even any pleasantries. Just an Irritated "Well? Where is my vassal?"
"Ah... well we became separated on the journey." The Marquess seemed annoyed by hearing this, but before he spoke again, Aaron contiunued. "Please, let me tell the tale or our travels."
Aaron gave the report, explaining how the group came under attack by doom wolves on the way to Ostia, and the trouble that ensued. Once they were there, they'd seen how the city had been razed. Most of what had been Ostia was a blackened crater, and all that was left were a few lucky foundation stones of some of the sturdier buildings, and the castle. He told of the wooden stockade that had been built in the ruins of Ostia, of his conclusion that there must be survivors as that was his only reason for the building of the structure. At last he told of his return trip to Ostia, though he managed to leave out the names of his new companions.
"Lord Marquess, I can only guess that Laus is next. When I left Ostia, there was still a sizable army there. with Ostia... gone, they will have need to move to a place with more supplies soon. That, or disband throughout the country. Either option could prove disastrous."
The Marquess, for his part did listen. after all, it was his money talking, or so the traveler claimed. "I know how to judge the situation!" The lord mulled things over in his mind. Did he trust this young man? Rumors seemed to support what he'd said. He'd have to think more on this before making a lasting decision.
"You've done well." The Marquess said with all the fervor of a rock. "Thank you for your service. You may go now."
And with that, Aaron was shuffled back, out of the room, and eventually to the outer gates once again, rather astonished at how quickly he'd been dismissed.
"Well..." The mage thought better of saying anything too near the castle, and finally headed off towards the inn. It was quite a walk out to the inn on the outskirts of town, so Aaron chanced asking for a ride on a wagon heading that way.
"Hey, mind if I hitch a ride?" He stopped in amazement. He recognized that face.
"Aaron? Fancy seeing you here. Barek said he'd finally sent you out on a trip, though I expected you'd get lost before you got here." The voice came from an old friend from Aaron's days of training.
"James?"
"Aaaat yourrrrr- service!" James said jovially to his younger companion. He even tipped an imaginary hat. "C'mon up."
"Well Jimmy, your the one who always insisted on reading the map with your eyes closed. Some of us actually use them for more than sun blockers while napping." It had been one of James' habits to go on "nature excursions", but instead of hiking, he'd curl up and go to sleep someplace out of the way. Despite this, he'd always seemed to be a top student, proving that one could be successful and still have some down time to spare. Tell me. What are you doing here?
"Oh, just a bit of cataloging. A few days ago, the mage school here-" James stopped, making a crashing hand signal, and an explosion sound effect with his mouth. "Gone. Imploded. Anyway, the Marquess offered the Old Man a discount on some of the supplies, if we'd come and get them... That's why I'm here. You? Ahhh of course, I already know why you're out here. Barek thinks his pupils need more than book knowledge. so he sent you out to work independently. Yeah, he does that to most of us. Just keep a cool head, and keep working. I'm sure you'll be ready in no time."
"Jim, this is my stop." They'd already reached the inn that Aaron was staying at.
"This little place? Are you sure they even have proper beds? It looks like it would fit in Master Barek's Dining room!"
"Hah, it probably would. My Grandfather did make his place into a school, you know. Take care, Jim." Aaron started to climb down and head in, but was called back one more time.
"Aaron, not sure if you heard, but I'm Barek's new assistant teacher!" James looked like he'd just woke from one of his afternoon naps to find he'd won the lottery.
"Really?! Congratulations, James!"
"I know. Here!" With that Jim tossed a large red book at Aaron. The green-haired mage caught it, hefting the unfamiliar weight. It was warm to the touch. "Listen! I'm a teacher now, so I need to be smarter than everyone else. I want you to take that Elfire, and fill it with notes, alright? When you bring it back, I'll trade you a new one, kay?"
Aaron grinned at his friend. "Oh, no you don't. If I agree to that then you'll spend way to much time reading those maps, and we both know that those students would be merciless if they ever found a snoozing teach. You just fill it up yourself."
"Nah... Keep it, keep it. I've got a dozen more in the back, anyway. Things going about... You've probably heard about those wolves. Barek's gathered your whole home town on his estate. They'll be safe there."
How had his grandfather managed to convince a whole town to move? That was beside the point though. "Be careful, James."
The mage-trained wagoneer nodded before heading off into the night. Aaron, on the other hand, wandered into the inn, and ordered a mug of simple water, which he gulped down, and headed for bed.

Chelsea gave a little "Yeah, sure," as Kelvin left. She didn't mind him leaving, she just wasn't sure what she wanted to do now. She laid back on the bed and just started to think. So much had happened since she left home. Meeting Rayl and Gabriel, joining the Golden Lance, meeting Kelvin, losing her father... It almost seemed like it was someone else's life. How could one girl from the plains go through so much in such a short amount of time?
She still couldn't believe her father was gone. She knew he was, but it didn't seem real. She didn't need to cry about it anymore, that part was passed. But it still seemed unbelievable that she was living in a world her father wasn't. She had half a mind to return home and check to see if it wasn't true and he was there cooking a meal for the two of them... But no. She gave her head a shake. He was dead. Rayl confirmed it. There's no way, why create false hope.
The red-headed archer from Sacae closed her eyes and let her mind wander into a light sleep.

Mernatel was sitting at the bar in a inn in Laus. He knew Nela would not approve of him getting drunk but it had been a long walk and this was the first night he would sleep in a bed since he was disowned by the 33d.
He turned and saw a very dark and angry looking man sitting by himself at a table. Mernatel smiled to himself and stood up. He hadn't realized how many drinks he'd had. He stumbled over to the mans table, he wasn't sure why but knew this man could help him.
"Hello friend," he slurred out in a loud voice, "you seem to be a serious no nonsense kind of man so I will be upfront about what I need. I need help to deeat the Illian forces occupying Bern and you look like a man with answers."He looked down as apposed to at Morgoth not realising he hadn't actually asked a question.
