"These people aren't my concern." Something in Garnet rebelled at that simple statement, and he realized what he needed to do. "But I'm unwilling to abandon them. "
His hand tightened on his sheathed sword, before he released it. "I'm going to let my companions..." The Mercenary's voice died in his throat, as he saw something coming in from a direction distinctly not south. A band of around ten horsemen, several also carrying a passenger, rode up the street. They bore no uniform, wearing only tattered fragments of armor here and there. The only thing that united them was their apparent eagerness to rob and pillage. Garnet had seen their like before.
Most dropped to the ground, though a few remained confidently seated on their horses, with lance or sword in hand. Some went towards the stables, clearly intent on stealing horses. Others headed towards the smith up the road, probably intending on taking weapons. These raiders aren't merely in it for wealth. They're too professional. They're trying to equip for a war!
While he was taking all this in, Garnet was not staying still. He was running back to the inn, and sounding the warning. "Bandits! Raiders in the town center!" There were a fair amount of the raiders, and with almost all of the town's guards heading out of town to the south, the city would be easy pickings.
OoC: Basically, there a a few cavaliers, and a large group of raider-bandit people. I rarely think these things out that far ahead of time. They just kind of evolve into being... Anyway, sorry if it was not in your plans. lol

Gezka's gaze went from the red-bearded merc to the men approaching. They turned, some getting off towards the smith, others towards a stable. Gezka sighed, and flipped his cape off, letting it hit the ground nicely. He look his lance, giving it a once over, and thought to himself... I haven't needed to use you in so long. Lend me aid here, so that those that would protect this city would not fall. Gezka considered praying to St. Elimine, but the thought of religion burned an already-gaping hole in his heart.
He look his lance then, flipping it around once, and nodded to the merc who had just come from yelling a warning into the tavern. "I'll go towards the armory. There, they will be more formidably armed, and..." He paused, then turned his head, giving Garnet his shut eye. "The pawns are played first."
With that, he took off towards where the smith was, and towards a good amount of raiders who were probably laughing at all the weapons they would have for...
Gezka thought for a moment. Why would bandits and raiders need more horses and weapons? They raid with what they have, fear being a very prominent tool. This was no ordinary raiding... there was something more to it.
He shook it off his head, and continued running towards the smith.

As Erasmus observed the conflict escalating outside, he grew slightly worried. He expressed no wish to see someone bleed to death before his eyes. Before long, Garnet returned to the bar, clearly beside himself.
"Bandits! Raiders in the town center!"
The words hit Erasmus like a bag of stones. The people in the bar screamed, clamoring for a chance to escape. Tables were overturned, glasses were broken. Erasmus, who could not afford to show signs of foolishness by exiting through the main entrance, quickly formulated a plan.
Turning to everyone around him, but mainly Setsuna, Erasmus spoke. "There's a back door inside the kitchen. I believe it leads to an alley, where we can conceal ourselves. If we're spotted, we'll have to fight. I'm afraid we have no other choice."
Finishing his sentence, Erasmus sighed. Forgive me, St. Elimine.

The wall. It probably has a dent in it by now. Or atleast it should after how many times Elias has banged his head against it. Elias' head is pretty thick too, so that's no understatement. This whole situation was driving him mad. Anyone with the smallest drop of savvy could predict how this entire situation was playing out. They were just dancing around in a circle now, and it drove him crazy. Especially since he didn't like any of the people, oh boy more light magic users yay! It made him mad and made the wall bent.
"Sir what are you..."
Elias snapped his head towards the woman.
"Er... Nevermind. Continue please... don't hurt me"
He almost missed his call, his time to shine. It stung his ears like bees. Bees made out of words? Anyways, yeah, BANDITS AND BRIGANDS! He heard they were going to do something about something or another, but that didn't interest him! What did interest him was the fact he had to do something.
With a sweep of his red robe billowing from his rushing, he was off. Tome clenched tightly to his body as he rushed right out. "Attacking civilians!? Bothering honest working folk because your too lazy to get a job!? You should be ashamed!" He was outnumbered, overpowered, but damn it didn't matter. "I, the Crimson Mage, will cause you to regret your decision!" He dramatically flared his arm out as a rush of flame snaked it's way down his outstretched limb before gathering in a sphere in his hands.

Garnet inspected the situation once more, Gezka headed off to the armory. He'd be hard pressed there, with multiple enemies and probably closer confines, but there were simply to many places to be. The smith, the stables, the central yard where they all were now. This probably was going to be one of those stories that involved the heroes giving their all before being slain by the overwhelming hoard of villains....
Choosing where to go became a second priority though, as Elias exited the tavern, a flame weaving down his arm. It was actually pretty intimidating, even if his words did sound a bit overdramatic.
Seeing one of the bandit cavaliers riding toward the mage, the merc leapt in his path and grabbed the horse by it's bridle. He was nearly trampled until he managed to turn the beast away from him, and then he felt the haft of a spear brought up into his chest.
The blow caused Garnet to stumble back, but any time to catch his breath was immediately cut away by an incoming thrust from the rider, which was barely deflected by the buckler in his hand. There was even another fighter, and axe-wielder advancing alongside the cavalier at him now.
Sheesh.... Engaged with two enemies, and he still hadn't even drawn his sword yet!
"Elias! Dinner needs cooking, in your spare time!"
The Merc's voice was slightly more stressed than it normally was, holding a touch more frantic tone to it, than before.

Gezka hadn't come too far into the armory area until the men were upon him. Expecting a soldier being sent to deal with the situation, two men had cleverly hidden themselves whilst the other three left the danger-area with weapons. Gezka had already failed.
The two men were on top of him, and one thrust his blade into the soldier's shoulder. Gezka yelped with pain, and threw them off. Realizing that his lance had been dropped a few feet away from him, he waited to retrieve it until one man had attacked.
Using this to his advantage, as the man rushed Gezka, he rolled out of the way and picked his lance up. He twirled it once quickly, and sent the tip straight into the bandit's side. The man screamed in pain and rolled over on his side, trying to recover. The other man showed no hesitation. He rushed Gezka, sword in hand, and Gezka smiled. Though his shoulder pained him, he still had his good arm.
Gezka gripped the lance by the end of the shaft, extending its full length (though it took strength to do so), and kept the sword-user at bay a good 4 feet away from him. Gezka quickly pulled back the shaft, getting a new grip halfway through, and impaled the other man in the chest. He screamed with a magnificent horror, and fell over dead.
By this time, Gezka was tired and bleeding profusely. The other man had gotten up and used Gezka's fatigue to aid him. He came quickly with his sword-arm, using the other to hold his wound... just as Gezka did.
Barely dodging the blow, Gezka fell backwards undefended. The bandit came straight down, barely missing Gezka's heart with the critical blow. Gezka smiled through his pain and brought the lance over top of the bandit and came straight through him, killing him immediately. Once the man was pushed off, Gezka gasped for air and feverishly grabbed for his vulnerary.

Garnet's time was cut off as the horseman spurred his steed forward, and thrust with his lance. The red-headed merc's reaction was to rip his sword out of it's sheath, and slap it into his opponent's spear. The blow barely moved the weapon, as it plunged in, and Garnet was forced to use his buckler to deflect the shaft again. A pained gasp escaped his mouth as the brigand cavalier's thrust penetrated the small shield, and pricked the hand holding it. The reflex action was to let go of the buckler, which Garnet did. Unfortunately, the blow to the hand was not enough to stop the now furious swordsman.
The cavalier tried to pull his weapon away for another thrust. As he pulled it back, the buckler went with it, caught on the tip, weighing it down by a few more pounds. Two pounds in your hand is nothing, but two pounds on the end of an already heavy six foot rod can be quite a different story. The extra weight slowed the cavalier just enough to allow Garnet to get inside, and turn the tables on his opponents.
Pushing in and following the retreating lance, The mercenary managed to step inside strike range and give a strong hack into the man's side. The rider dropped from the horse at the blow, side spilling red, but the swordsman was already moving on, engaging the axman nearby.
The axe was upraised, in typical bandit fashion. It was a sight that many a villager had fled from over the centuries, but it was also one of the worse positions to use against a skilled fighter. Garnet allowed the man to follow through with the downward cutting blow. He allowed the man to finish the blow, because he was not actually where the axe was. Axes are heavy, and so difficult to stop. As the axe passed him by, and descended, Garnet let it pass and then drove in, pushing his sword through the man's gut, before ripping it out.
Looking around, he saw that there were more bandit's around. More than he could face. He guessed that the men in the stables would be finishing up soon, and then they'd be heading to join their comrades at the smith shop. If he could somehow block them from getting the weapons, it would be at least a partial victory. That was also where that soldier from before had gone.
With a surge, he was off, making his way into the the smith shop. Inside, he found another two or three bandits gathering up weapons in their arms, or bags, or whatever they had on hand. He could see Gezka, trying to look after injuries in another section of the structure as well.
"Well,well... Look who showed up."One of the bandits said as he dropped his looted steel, and faced Garnet. "I've seen your face around on posters, Friend. You're worth quite a bit."
Garnet merely glared back, silently. He wasn't interested in his bounty, or in chatting with this bandit. This man's fate was set, as far as Garnet was concerned. He was going to die.
"Silentlyawaiting your execution, eh? Such a well behaved lamb." He and his friends laughed in fiendish delight at what they planned to do. The man before him was a careless, blustering fool, Garnet decided. His axe held limp at his side, a slouch in his shoulders, even his patchwork armor was badly fastened.
"If you're going to fight me, then you should at least tighten up that strap on your pauldron." Garnet stated in a disgusted voice
The talkative bandit stopped in confusion. "Well, look at it! It's practically falling off your arm as it is." If he wanted to talk, the Garnet would talk to the man just enough to break his momentum. Not too long though. He needed to find a way to fort the place up before the rest of the gang came from the stables, and that meant dealing with the people inside.

Ooc: Hode you all don't mind a little rain.
Ic: Nathaniel was awoken by sounds of screaming and sounds of pillaging. Not quite understanding him self, he stood up putting his clothes and cloak on. He grabbed his Tome and left the room. Where as usually leaving a sleeping girl in her room he would be Grinning, his current expression was one of grief.
He saw many people still afraid in the Inn. He started to open his mouth to say, "Don't be afraid." But then he realized they wouldn't want to hear it from him. The monk who had bad mouthed religion. He walked outside into the chaos that was happening around him. And put the hood of his cloak up as it started to rain.
He saw the Mercenary heading into the Smith so he decided that would be a good place to get headed. He started running but then he saw a woman running from a bandit and a cavalier. She carried a shaking bundle in her arms. Nathaniel gritted his teeth. There were men who seemed to be leaving the Stables in the town. They would probably head to the Smith next.
He ran toward the woman at an angle that he wold cut the men off. He sen a bolt of light into the bandit. He only slowed him down. When he got to the point the cavalier had almost caught the woman. He swung his sword and Nathaniel jumped in and took a blow to the right shoulder. He cringed but sent a flash into the cavaliers face temporarily blinding him.
He did a trick he remembered from the army. He kicked his leg behind the horseman's and pushed it out of the stirrup. He then punched the man in the chest and then slapped the horses haunches. The beast took off with the horsemen still attached hanging getting trampled under foot hanging from the other stirrup.
In his small battle he had forgotten the bandit. The bandit rammed him from behind with his shoulder. Nathaniel stood up sending a bolt into the man. THe man fell over not so much dead but knocked out. He turned and saw the woman stunned and heard over all the anarchy the baby in her arms whaling with fear.
He walked over to this woman he didn't know. "Thank you for saving my sister." He didn't understand but he took her thanks. He put his cloak around her and said, " Go." He turned around and ran throughthe chaos toward the smith.

So, as Flourite did his fancy thing where he fought and did simple things like sticking the pointy end of a sword into someone, somehow making the entire process ridiculously overcomplicated with shields and wot wot, Elias was twiddling his thumbs and acting all around non-existent... Which was odd for Elias. Very very odd. The Crimson mage, like a light, a flare of hope in the blackness and despair of night called out against the wind. He was destined to be the shining star that everyone looked towards as their only source of hope in this twisted world they all lived in!
He would take down these men with his bare hands magic and THEN he would cook a soufflé!
"Come now! Let me show you why I am the Crimson mage! This isn't amateur hour!" He flared his arm out dramatically, like he always did, it was basically a signature hand gesture! He should name it later. CRIMSON FLOURISH! Instantly adds awesome to any magic spell. He grinned like a devil as he looked towards a man whos attention he's caught. It wasn't hard to catch attention, what with his screaming like a banshee, but that man was just running headfirst into death. Bandits had, like, negative intelligence.
He suddenly extended his arm, but was suddenly distracted. "Rain?" A sudden drop of wetness landed on his face, and then another and another... Then there was more, and it brought it's friends too! Looks like the clear blue sky earlier lied to th-
"Hng!" A heavy thud as the spear lunged right at the crimson mage, but luckily finding it's way into his tome and not his beautiful face. That would of been a travesty. The tome in hand, the pointy bit of the spear poking slightly out and towards him. "Rude." The fire mage narrowed his eyes, glaring at the bandit, whom was looking quite happy for himself.
The tome blocking the blade flashed white as two separate fireballs cycloned up the shaft of the lance and right into the bandit's priceless face. As he fell, his grip on the lance loosened. "Aw... This was the book dad gave me..."

With an injured buckler hand, Garnet was not in top shape anymore. Never the less, he could make the closer quarters favor him, over the bandits. The sounds of battle outside boosted his moral as well. If there was fighting going on, that meant there were more than bandits and himself still fighting.
Deciding now was the time, he moved in, adopting a narrow stance, and leading with his right hand. His sword wove in around and through his enemies paltry attempts at defenses. Even if he only scored light blows, he had seized control of the terrain by forcing them back into a narrow space.
Just when he was beginning to think they might outlast him, he found an opening. Surging ahead, he battered the lead bandit's axe into the wall, before following up by simultaneously thrusting his slim sword deep into the the second bandit's chest, and shouldering the first into the wall hard enough that the man collapsed upon being released.
After seeing his fellows fall, and that the red-haired swordsman was ready for more, the third dropped made to flee out the door. Garnet let him go, but followed him as far as the doorway.
It had begun to rain in the time he'd been inside fighting, Garnet realized. There was Elias, the Crimson Mage, and that Monk from before... Nathaniel? They were about to be engaged by the group coming from the stables. which seemed larger than it had before. Perhaps there had been others that had joined up with this group.
Thankfully, that wasn't the only group moving in. In the distance, Garnet could make out the city guard returning from where they'd been told the raiders were attacking, and they didn't look happy to have been tricked. The large majority of the bandits noticed this, and began hopping aboard their newly acquisitioned horses.
Most would escape with horses, supplies, perhaps weapons taken from places other than the smithy (only one bandit escaped the smith's shop), but there were still a number fighting on, either uncaring, or, more likely, unaware of the incoming guards.
Garnet himself moved out from the shop, and began trying to press the small number of raiders back, into a a cluster for the mages to pump full of magic. They seemed to laugh at this single man's apparent, and foolish intention of challenging them all at once. Garnet would think it foolish as well, but he was farely certain he could just turn and outrun them if he needed. After all, he'd have a cluster of violent, axe-swinging marauders for motivation.

Nathaniel was not holding his ground very well. He was getting pushed back faltering with his magic because of his wound. He couldn't lift his casting arms so it was mostly weak verbal cantations and retreating. But then the Red Head Mercenary swooped into the fray. Also he could see the city guard returning causing a few of the bandits to flee.
The bandit he had knocked out earlier was angry and getting too close and Nathaniel almost matched his Furiocity. He fought through the pain and lifted his right arm and closed his eyes. Three of the bandits surged forwards to meet him. Nathaniel whispered an incantation and moved his hands in the motion of a spell that did not match the words.
A huge blast of light enveloped the bandits and Nathaniel was thrown back. He was on his black lying in the dirt. He tilted his head up and saw three less bandits. The others were gaping mouthed and scared until they realized Nathaniel couldn't move his arm after the sudden explosion from his finger tips.
Nathaniel closed his eyes and whispered to himself, " If I survive this I'll need to remember that combination."

Arkane finally got out of the village, hearing that bandits were attacking, he did not want to reveal his own powers in front of humans, he heard enough of them fear from other dragons around, he knew well enough not to aggravate fear into the very people who gave him a home and a place to start his search, he sighed as he walked ahead. His body language gave off to those bandits that he was hiding a source or large gold, he willingly decided to bring out all the major bandits to him, once far he knew his powers could clean them all out and at least be able to move about with his secret untouched, but one thing was about this land, something did not feel right in his bones, his own stone hidden well within his being shook nervously...
all these thoughts running as he runs as well, he knew he had at least the majority of the bandits, or so he believes, the instant all he could sense was the bandits he turned around, smiling as he showed his bare arms. of course the bandits were angry at this, and all rushed foward to take out the man in the white robe.
"Kwi jennu ithquent bahamut, majak ve wer vers ekess svent nomenoi drekimi ghoros ve!!!"
the bandits stopped hearing such strange sounds they were confused, soon they understood, the area was sealed up as Arkane shifted from the human being they saw into a large dragon, slowly taking shape and size the bandits all try to escape only to realize that the barrier was made to made them stay in place.
a small grin appeared on the dragon's face as he let out a loud roar as the temperature started to fall down slowly, the very air he let out in his roar was strong enough to lower the temperature, soon they start to feel the effects of lower temperature, he smiled as he felt the closed space to speed up the effects as he let out a huge roar again, this time it was his breath attack, shooting fast icicle shoot off into the bandits as if spears launch into them, a clear cut as the bodies started to his to the ground with little blood slipping down. he stopped as he looked up making a circle in the air as all was cleaned up with ease as he walked forward, hoping again that no one saw his dragon magic at work

It looked like a lot of the bandits are now gone, obviously fleeing instead of facing the wrath of the crimson mage. Not that he could blame them. There was only one man on this planet that could stand up against him! And that, children, was his self. There remained a small, clustered group of simpleton bandit being all hurr durr with each other and wanting to rip his red headed compadre's face from his face holder. Well he'd have none of that! Flourite was under his protection! His spell tome, while functionally broken, still had enough juice for another spell or so. This had to be the last attack, or else he was just outta luck.
It looked like the guard was on the way! Oh crap! Elias had to move fast, or they would steal all the glory! The delicious delicious glory. The Crimson mage waved his arm and focused, three spheres of fire gathering around him. Floating in the air like little lanterns, except without the metal, or tinder, or glass casing, or people holding them, or poles supporting them, or handle to hold it by... Actually it wasn't much like a lantern at all. Still, they were floating and stuff, wisps of smoke or steam when the rain splattered on them. He didn't know which, probably steam though. Magic fire is much harder to put out while the mage is actively controlling it, only pupils have a hard time with it. Or some. Elias never had problems with fire magic, ever. Looks like he had t-
There was a loud explosion, and a bright painful burst of light that Elias was going to have to smack that monk for later because OW HIS EYES. Anyways it was still his time to shine! Even if there was a few less-
Suddenly a ton of the bandits went missing, and he felt a powerful chill down his spine. Not to mention the loud noise of bandits being murdered. Crapbasket, now the guards were here and he had no one to kill. Oh wait! There was someone fleeing! Elias thrusted his arm, and the three flames erupted and shot out to the man, merging as they flew and creating a larger and more powerful fireball, colliding with his back and knocking the sole bandit off his feet. Literally. He flew a few feet actually. It was funny.
He looked at his ripped, torn, ruined book with a large spear hole piercing through it. "Aw..." With a sigh he looked at the guards chasing down and capturing the remaining bandits. He ran over to Flourite, and stood next to the mercenary."Well, I think that was a enriching experience I think."

OoC: Ok, i'm kinda lost about what all happened there, so I'm going to just do the best I can without straining a thinking muscle.
BiC:
Things... came to a close. In flashy, destructive and arcane ways for the most part. It all made Garnet feel a bit inadequate really. Still... there's something to be said for good hard steel. He thought to himself, trying to avoid flexing his left hand. Weapons were definitely better at smashing things, as his hand could attest.
"Nice shooting, Elias. They'll think twice before messing with.... Well, they probably won't have a chance to mess with anyone again, but I'd say we showed them."
Garnet put a finger into the hole in Elias book and wiggled it around. "Ya think, maybe, they didn't agree with what was in the book?"
He didn't notice it, due to the pain his hand caused, but there were some people beginning to poke their heads out of windows, peeking through cracked doors, there were even a few people moving about with obvious medical skills. Some even carrying healing staves.
