Mana placed her head on the table after she heard the question. Why was she here? She was lost, it was her fault after all. "No, I am not." Mana answered with weak tone, mostly because she would embarrassed herself. "I was doing scouting mission in Etruria border, looking how their defense line organized, but then, I was lost in the forest and separated from my friends. That was my fault to walk absent-mindedly." She sighed as she finished, what a stupid reason she had.
"Huh?" Mana just remembered, this supposed to be a secret. She should learn how to shut her mouth next time. Slowly, she raised her head and looked at them. "Th-that...I am just kidding! Yes! Don't take it seriously!" Well, now it was her turn to make stupid excuse. She had messed everything. "A-actually, I am just wandering around. And...Uuh, I somehow arrived here few hours ago."
"Sure, that sounds fun." She tried to change the topic of conversation by responding to Elias' offer.
Mana averted her glance, she couldn't look at them now. Not with her red face. To make everything worse, she was lying to them, all Sacaens should not lie, that was something her mother told her everyday.

At Elias's excited outburst, Garnet jumped a bit. Then sat up, amused, and agreeing that mages like Elias can add interest to any group. His offer for her to join them didn't go unnoticed, but Garnet didn't mind. Of course, he figured that he was still going to be hunted by bounty hunters and assassins still, but hopefully that would stop once he put some miles behind Etruria. Maybe it'd be best to not even bring that up.
Her explanation about why she was there, and the subsequent claim about her only kidding about it didn't ring true to the red-headed mercenary. If she really was on a scouting mission, then it meant that the other nations were taking an interest in Etruria's situation. That would be a good thing. Maybe then they'd see the danger that Etruria presented. If she was covering something else up... well, he didn't really feel like prying into it. It probably wouldn't make too much of a difference to him.
"Feel free to come along. The more the merrier. And the safer." Garnet spoke up. He sounded rather relaxed about it, and it was obvious that he was enjoying his dinner. "Of course, if we're to be heroes, we'll likely abandon safety most of the time." He smirked over to Elias, who seemed mostly focused on getting famous, and doing great things.
"If you really want to do something heroic, I may have something you can assist me with."
It was the man across the table speaking up. It seemed that he'd finally managed to set aside his reading.
"You see, I need a group of enterprising individuals to go on a trip with me. I'm searching for an item of... historical, and... arcane worth, and I want to bring it back."
Garnet looked up surprised that the first thing he'd say was to ask for help. "You'd like to hire us to help you track down... some sort of treasure?"
"Uhh... yes. Something like that. I couldn't pay you in gold, but I could provide horses for the trip, which would make it easier to leave the country, ahem, which I heard you speaking about before."
Garnet considered what the man was saying, and offering, weighing what he knew carefully. The man seemed to be getting on in years, with his white hair, and wrinkles around his eyes, yet he also kept his thick mustache well groomed, and seemed to have a degree of assurance about him. Assurance wasn't the only thing he seemed to give off though. Something about him also seemed a bit eccentric, or just a little odd. Possibly magical.
Garnet wondered what the others would make of this man, haltingly stumbling through his speech, like he had other things to spend his time thinking about.

"Oh? What's this? Secret information? Don't worry, The Crimson Mage won't tell anyone." Elias gave an exaggerated thumbs up, well exaggerated for most people, and laughed. "I'll trade you that secret for one of my own! I'm actually an Ilian secret agent on a mission that could change the outcome of the entire war!" He announced as if it was second hand knowledge. "So let our secret mission coincide and together we can change the world for the better!" He was glad that another not priest was joining them on their mission, as that just meant one more person to go down in history as the legendary companions of the incredible Crimson Mage.
He looked over to Garnet and nodded. "Of course. Safety is nice and well and fun and what not, but you'll never get anywhere if you're too afraid to do anything. Danger just adds to the fun!" And fun is fun. Something else caught his ear however, the word 'heroic' well well well, color Elias intrigued. And red.
A rare event was unfolding, Elias was actually being quiet and listening to the man. Listening quiet intensely, from the look on his face you'd imagine... well it's hard to imagine quite what would make him look so earnest and excited.
"Psst." He found his self sneaking up behind Garnet, despite sitting next to a second ago. "Psst, Flo we should totally do it."

Nathaniel hadn't said a word in the whole conversation. Which he found ridiculous. He had simply been writing, drinking, and eating. But then the mention of Arcane relics from a mysterious man drew him out. Might be a good couple of chapters.
He sat up in his chair and said, " well I vote that we do it all though I think we need more information." He looked at Rouge with his left eyebrow raised, "If I get a vote." he looked at Mana, "What do you think milady?" He grinned forgetting any mock anger towards Maroon.

"Uuh, it seems they know if that wasn't a joke." Mana was sulking. At least, they didn't asked further. Elias suddenly told everyone that he was a secret agent with important mission or something like that. The fact that he didn't try to cover it like she did was the most surprising part, it made her chuckle, he was really funny and unique. It seemed Garned felt the same.
Then someone suddenly joined the conversation, he told them about an item he was looking for. He said that he needed their help to find it, Mana was interested, it sounded like a cool and fun adventure. She had read cool tales about treasure hunting like this one, and now someone came and offered them to help him on his search for an item. Not bad, now she would be the part of the tale itself.
Mana watched Elias whispering something to Garnet, she didn't heard what he said. Judging by his personality, he should support this idea, he would go to help this man. It was easy to read his mind. Garnet, he was still waiting responses from the others, he hadn't said anything.
Then Nathaniel asked her opinion after he himself said that he wanted to go. He said that they needed more information. She had to agree, there was too much they didn't know about this item, historical or not, she wanted to know more.
"Sure, it sounds cool. But he is right, we need you to give us more information about this item. And where will we begin our search?" She actually didn't really care about the information, she hated thinking too much.

"You all can do whatever you wish," He said speaking to the others. "But I'm glad your interested. Because I am, and a bit more company would probably discourage any minor trouble along the way."
Garnet was unsurprised when the others asked for more information. He was thinking the same thing himself. "Sir, I don't even have your name. Why don't you find a drink, share more?"
"Thankyou... I don't drink. First off, My name is Cecil Braxton" The elderly man reached up with his hand, and pressed his long white hair back from his face before leaning in as if to share a great secret. "I'm a collector of sorts, and occasionally lend things to schools across the lands. I have an interest in obtaining things of magical nature. In this case, I've decrypted the location of something quite unique. The manuscript of a magic user who lived several hundred years ago. According to my findings, he was attempting to rediscover the art of scrying, as well as other applications of magic." He opened his mouth to continue, but then seemed to think of something else first. "To the uninitiated, scrying is the art of seeing distant things.... Anyhow, the difficulty lies in the fact that the hills where the treasure is said to be hidden, are reported to be within the fringe of a certain group of outlaws territory."
Garnet felt rather amazed at the idea of scrying. Seeing distant things could be an incredibly useful skill for the world to recover. As far as he knew, only the heroes of legend had ever accomplished such feats of magery. "And where are these hills, exactly?"
"It is a short journey south of here. Near the pass into Ostia. But the hills themselves can be difficult to navigate. It would be impossible to find without this book I carry as a guide. Please help me find this this relic. Who knows what mysteries it could unlock."
Garnet thought for a moment, weighing all the information he'd received. Bandits could mean trouble, but the man had said that the hills were on the fringe of their territory. And in those hills, it would be difficult to navigate, much less be tracked. He remembered the way they'd looked on his trip from Ostia to here. Honestly, he needed to get out of the country anyway, so this was as good of a direction as any.
"Cecil, I, Garnet, will come with you, but I want to be square. My main reason is to get out of here. Your quest is my road out, and I've got nothing to lose. You on the other hand have quite a bit to gain. You couldn't have picked a trustier blade to have on your side."
Cecil smiled warmly at Garnet and reached out, shaking his hand with surprising strength for one of his age.
"There you have it. I'm going I hope the rest of you are as game for it as I am." Garnet said, looking around at the others. He was pretty sure Elias would be, bandits or not.

Elias stayed silent for a moment, his hand to his mouth and eyes shut. His finger was up and curved, resting on his lips while his thumb grappled the underside of his chin and the other fingers remained clenched into a semi-fist jutting out from his chin. This was a time for great thought, and this was how his dad always looked when he thought. A habit he's picked up from his Sage of a father. His mind sparkled with activity that would be far too chaotic to put into words.
"I've heard of that." Elias said suddenly added to the conversation. Added in... the oddest way. Perfectly calm and composed. "Scrying, I remember researching that a bit a few years ago for my father. He wanted to find the lost relic too, or rather he wanted me to so I could make a name for myself. I only hit dead ends though..." He added the end with a mutter, an easily heard mutter, but a mutter all the same.
This began to intrigue him on a deeper level then simply being a hero. It piqued his natural curiosity for magic, something that rarely happened anymore these days. "I'm interested, I'll come definitely." He said fairly seriously, his arms crossed as he stood behind Garnet.
"CUH-RIM-SON-MAY-JUH! GO!" He pumped his fist in the air as he shouted triumphantly.

"Manuscript of magic..." She muttered. A smile appeared on her lips, an adventure waited for her. She didn't understand his explanation, actually, she didn't try to. Mana didn't care what kind of treasure it was, as long as it turned out to be a fun and exciting adventure she would go with them. But when she heard the words "outlaws", she remembered her past. She hated bandits since that time, her tribe had suffered so much. She shook her head, as to get rid the negative thought.
Two votes, Garnet and Elias agreed with the idea. And what about her? Of course! "Sounds like a fun adventure, such great relic, and we are the one who will find it!" She stood up and banged the table, then she noticed that she was too spirited and overacted. But she didn't stop speaking. "I will help you to find it. Bandit or whatever, these three people will strong enough to protect you." She forgot to count herself.
"What are we waiting for?" She was excited.

Nathaniel grinned as Mana slammed the table. He liked the idea of going but there was one problem. He didn't trust this Cecil guy. From what he knew and what he had been told, it was nearly impossible to Scry even when it was easy to learn how. He had also hears that the majority of great tomes and spell hand books were gaurded by dangers whole armies would have troubles with.
But he grinned again, "Well I have a few thinks to discuss with you later Flo, but I don't think now would be a good time for me to be the voice of reason. I think we should go, sounds like fun." He grinned and took a drink his alcoholic resistance still keeping him sober.

"Excellent. I'll go and assemble what we'll need, and we'll leave as soon as you're ready. I'll be outside"Cecil climbed to his feet, and shuffled off, out the front and down the block, and out of sight from the windows. "Well, I have to get some new equipment if I'm going to be any use for much longer. My buckler is holed through, and my sword needs some sharpening. I'll be over at the smiths." He stood up to leave then. "Alright Nathan. Let's talk soon then." Once Garnet arrived at the smith's shop, he immediately gave up his slim sword to the smith's apprentice for repairs. "Just take the knicks and burrs off. it doesn't need a full repair yet." While he was waiting, he looked around the shop glancing over all the well crafted weapons. He was thinking that without his buckler to assist in deflecting things, events could prove a bit more difficult in the future. That made him want to upgrade his armament, but he doubted he had the cash on hand for that. He decided to do a quick count, and see just how much he had on hand. Dropping his provisions sack to the ground, he reached in and pushed aside the trail rations inside, looking for his money. Something caught his eye then. Two something's actually. He'd not taken a good look to see everything that was in the bag since he'd taken it off the assassin's who he'd had an incident with in the days before. He wasn't overly surprised to find a worn lock pick, but the shining red stone in the bag caused his eyes to nearly pop out of their sockets. Maybe he would be upgrading today after all! Going to the wall, he picked a large sword off the rack. With it's tip to the ground, the handle nearly reached his shoulders. The blade was long, and wide, made for knocking things aside, while the handle was long enough to get a large amount of leverage on it. Many would think of the weapon as slow and cumbersome, but that was not true. While it would take more effort to begin the swing, it would move as fast as the wielder could move it once it started. Garnet happened to believe he had the strength to turn it into a pinwheel of shattering force. "I'd like to make a purchase." Garnet said as he rested the five-and-a-half foot blade on the front work bench. The Master smith looked up from cleaning some of his wares, and eyed the weapon with an appraising look. "That's a fine piece of work. Gold, or trade?" He seemed to doubt that the mercenary would be able to come up with the funds. "Trade." Garnet stated, reaching into his bag and tossing the salvaged sale items on the table. The smith immediately reached down, and began inspecting the red gem. He looked quite pleased with it actually. Garnet let him satisfy his curiosity. "The lockpick won't do much for you, but this gem will pay for that blade, the work on your single-handed sword, and still leave me in your debt. More than I have on hand to pay you, could I do anything else for you?" It was clear that this customer had the smith's full attention. "Well... I could probably find something." Garnet said as he took another glance around the room. "Perhaps some detail work on the sheath?" "That could be arranged.""It's a rush job. I'd need it before I left." The smith nodded. "What do you want then?"When Garnet left, he left with a small amount of extra cash, a sharpened slim sword at his left hip, and an iron blade over his right shoulder. An inscription on the blade's sheath read the following: ~I am one who fights despair ~ Never give up the day~ ~Sunrise, The End of Nightmares~
Noticing his buckler, still on the end of the lance that had pierced it earlier, he went over and retrieved it, slipping it into his bag. He wasn't sure what good it was now, but it went against the grain to leave it behind. That was when he noticed Cecil, and the horses out, in front of the restaurant. There seemed to be one for each of them, and a pack horse. "I hope you can ride." the old man said, as he saw Garnet stepping into view. "Oh, I can ride, Cecil. I hope you can keep up with me." Garnet grinned back, as he approached the horses. "That should be fairly easy, I think, as I carry the knowledge of where we're going."Well, he had Garnet on that one. It didn't matter though. The red-headed merc was too busy introducing himself to a medium sized horse. He was a solid black, except for a thin white stripe down his nose. He recognized the quick feet, and jumpy "horsenality" of an Etrurian Ferrari, a swift breed from his home land. As he let it sniff his hand, he remembered Fable, who he'd sent with an old friend to get out of harms way. Now he'd be accepting charge of another steed.

Mana watched as Garnet left them to get new equipments, the young girl drew her Slim Sword, putting it on the table. She looked at her sword, it was still sharp enough, she didn't need to go to blacksmith now. Well, she just used it few times when she and the others saved Balthier before the Marquess could execute him. But she wanted to buy a new one someday, Slim Sword was light and easy to use but it was too thin. Sometimes she was afraid that this sword would break someday. But she didn't interested to get it now, her sword was still durable enough.
Watching Nathaniel, she wanted to try some. Her mother never allowed her to drink alcohol before, she was underage, even now she was just a 16 years old. She poured the beer to a glass and stared at it before she decided to drink slowly with her eyes closed. "!!!" Her eyes snapped open, the beer was bitter. Maybe she was really not old enough to drink it.
Looking at the two other men, she smiled and said, "Sounds like fun adventure, I am so excited. I wonder what will happen." She was imagining a great adventure. Elias was obviously excited and even shouted triumphantly, which made her giggle just by looking at him. She turned to Nathaniel, although he said he was interested, he didn't look like that. "By the way, aren't you excited?" She didn't know how to call him, but Mr. Priest didn't sound right. "Hey, you haven't told me your name."
Before he could say anything, Mana heard the sound of horse galloping from outside, her interest changed into go and see the horses. "That's right, he said he would give us horses." She stood up and started walking but she stopped near the entrance. "Tell me later!" She said to Nathaniel then ran outside.
She approached a brown horse and touched his neck.

Flourite went to trade in his junk to get other junk. He caught a glimpse of a beautiful jewel full of redness as he spied upon the man. It was so... red... so perfect. He almost wanted to kick Flo's head in for trading it in! He could of just given it to Elias! That would of been a far superior idea! But noo... Bah.
Flo got some kind of huge sword that seemed too large and unweildy to be truly useful, but, eh didn't matter. He'd leave the fighting to the fighters, he would just roast the enemies alive if Flo was stuck trying lift his blade off the ground. More glory for him and the added affect of Flo's lifelong gratitude for saving his life. Then again he should have that gratitude anyways for Elias coming along in the first place. Nevertheless that wasn't what was important.
Elias continued his recon until he noticed the smith guy person was done dealing with Elias' red headed compatriot. The mercenary walking away with a huge sword slung over his shoulder like some big sword wielding guy with red hair. Well... It seemed obvious to Elias what the next order of business was.
"Fix my book please!" Elias slammed his tome on the counter of the smithy.
"Wh-what?" The smith looked at the red headed youth with a perplexed stare. As if he could really believe what he was looking at.
"My book." Elias enunciated. "It is broken. Fix it please." He gestured at the ripped and torn spellbook at the table. A wide grin on Elias' mouth. Barely able to contain his smile from ripping his head in half.
The smith shook his head at the kid. "I can't."
"Yes you can, do it please." Elias added with a nod.
"It's a book. How do I fix a book?" The smith gestured at the tome at the table.
"Use your hammer and stuff! I've seen you fix other weapons!" Elias hopped on the spot, full of energy.
"Y-you want me to... temper your book... to fix it?" The man's eyes fell from disbelief into a simple confusion.
"Yeah!"
"But it's a book! Books don't work that way! This is a steel hammer, all it will do is crush it!" He gestured again, more wildly, growing irritated.
"So? Use a paper hammer then."
"But... I can't! It's a book, a magic book at that, and it's torn to bits. I can't fix it, it's not something that can be fixed!" He lifted up the book, opening it up and trying, desperately, to show Elias how it's impossible.
"Well." Elias crossed his arms and cocked a single eyebrow, a smug grin on his face like a condescending child who had much better toys then you because his father was a wealthy nobleman while you were just some silly peasant or something. "I guess you're not a very good blacksmith then."
"Bu... Is this kid for real?" The tension and frustration built in his face, Elias could see it slowly reddening. A superior color, he must be so impressed with Elias' attire he wished to change his skin color to the same naturally. After a deep breath, he rubbed his shut eyes with his finger and thumb, complete with a heavy sigh. "Look. Kid. This is a book, it's made of paper. I'm a blacksmith, I work with steel and iron to create weapons. I'm no wordsmith, I'm not a writer, I can't mend ripped paper. It doesn't work that way." He was trying to calm down, but the edge of anger filled his voice. "It's not that I don't want to, I just can't. If you want, you can buy a new tome. I have some in stock. But I can't fix this."
"Oh." Elias simply said. Standing there, looking at the smith few a few moments. Awkward silence filled the air as Elias just stood there, staring at the man. "So, are you going to fix my book or what?"
Something inside the man snapped. "FINE. HERE I FIXED IT." He slammed a fire tome from his stock on the table so hard it rattled. "NOW TAKE IT AND GO."
"But that's just a differ-"
"I. Said. Go."
"Fine, geez. Touchy." Elias gathered up the book and his old torn book and shoved them into his things. He went to open his mouth, but didn't get the chance.
"Get out of my store!"
With a shrug, he complied, leaving the man alone to stew in his thoughts.
"Ugh..." The usually composed blacksmith grumbled. His eyes shut as he slowly waited for the anger to subside. Suddenly they snapped right back open. "Wait a minute, he never paid!"
"Hey Flo!" Elias hopped up cheerfully to his friend. "I got a new spellbook~" His voice hopped up and down just as he did, in a sing-song sorta tone. "Hey, is that a horse? Cool. I wonder if they have any red ones?"

" My name is Nathaniel...Milady." He trailed off as she walked away. Yeah, he was excited. But also he didn't trust this guy Cecil. Seemed like the kindof guy who would say, " Oh thanks for getting me this great thing right here and getting me far enough out of danger. Now walk in front off me so I can stab you in the back. Thank you." Not very high on Nathaniel's list of friends.
He walked outside after the woman. He saw that the others had all identified with a horse. There were about four left. A large black one. Two chesnut red ones. And a small thourohgbred mare from Sacae, white with large orangeish brown spots. He liked this one. He walked over and stroked its mane.
He saw Mana touching a horse so he walked over. He said as he bowed, "Milady my name is Nathaniel McFaren. You seem to like this horse, would you like some help getting on?"

Mana brushed the horse's neck with her hand, the horse responded by licking her cheek. She always liked horse, she had known how to ride a horse since she was 9 years old.
"Milady my name is Nathaniel McFaren. You seem to like this horse, would you like some help getting on?"
She turned to the voice, seeing Nathaniel coming. Trying to push the horse that continued licking her, she smiled to him. "Nice to meet you Nathaniel, although my first impression about you was bad. But I think I can forgive you for that one." With one little jump, she hopped and sat on the horse, gripping his rein and touching his neck. The horse became calm. "Thanks, but I don't need it." She spoke to Nathaniel from the top of the horse. "You should have known that all Sacaens know how to ride a horse. We live with them in plain."

As Garnet was getting acquainted with his horse, he was still able to make out the conversation going on between the pair several feet away. "Rejected. Utterly rejected." He snickered quietly into the horse's flank, as he heard Mana and Nathan chatting.
Elias hopped up then, spooking Garnet's horse a bit, before he could calm it with a word, and a few soft strokes. "Yes, Elias. THis would be a horse. And there are red ones, though nowhere nearly as red as you." Garnet didn't even bat an eye at the Crimson Mage's antics anymore. Ok, well, actually, he'd almost jumped out of his skin when Elias had popped up all of a sudden, but in general, he just acted like everything was normal. He supposed it was normal for Elias.
"If anyone needs riding lessons, I can provide them on the way, once we get out of town." Cecil spoke up.
"You do know how to ride?" Garnet tossed over his shoulder, as he finished adjusting the tack, and belting his gear onto the harness. "I think our client wants to head out."
