Jin looked up the toward the massive building, standing majestically in front of him. The sunlight reflected off the snow, giving the building a glowing outline. Jin trudged toward the massive double door and knocked. There was no answer. Jin knocked once again. Again, there was no answer.
Jin stepped back, and looked over the building once more. There were several balconies and windows. There wasn't a ceiling, or a top covering the building from snow. Jin caught a glimpse of a shadow disappearing from the top of the lowest balcony. So there were people here. Jin wondered if this was some sort of test. He would do whatever it took to become a mercenary.
Jin sat in the snow and waited. Hours passed by, Jin knew because the sun was moving across the sky, ever so slowly. A creak drew Jin out of his self-induced stupor. The door had opened. Jin drew himself to his feet and looked at the man who stood just inside of the door, his features obscured by its shadow. The man stepped out into the open, and Jin could see his features clearly.
The man wore a bright yellow uniform, a sword was strapped to his back and his hand rested on the hilt, as if ready to unsheathe at any moment. The man's green eyes narrowed at the sight of Jin and his nose wrinkled in disgust.
"This is no place for kids, kid,"
Jin didn't answer, but he did draw his sword and shifted into a stance he saw his father use. He made his intent clear. The man's face seemed to soften and a faint smile could be seen.
"Aww shucks kid, you're not ready yet".
That was all Jin heard before his world turned swiftly black.
