Night was proud of his tavern. Mighty proud. It was one of the most popular places here in Laus, in part because of the quality of the food and drink, in part because everyone wanted to see what the hell the resident crazy was going to do to the next poor shmuck who rubbed his wife the wrong way. So Alice received all the money she could ever want, and he got to beat a few drunks up every night. Night was mighty damn proud of his bar.
Tonight was far from quiet, though no where near as crazy as it could be. No one had yet drank enough to try and incur Alice's wrath via Night. So all he had to do right now was help tend the bar. "Allright, fellas, here you go. Two Dread Island Ice Teas' and one Ostian Thunder." He said, setting down the drinks in front of three merchants who dropped by from time to time. "So, what's new in the world?" he asked, whiping off the counter.
"Didn't you hear, man?" One asked, only to be slugged in the shoulder.
"Come on, you know Night. If it didn't happen in the bar, it didn't happen at all." the slugger reminded him.
Night blinked. "What's going on, fellas?" he asked. "Come on, don't leave me out of the loop!"
"Ostia, man!" the first merchant exclaimed. "The Erturians destroyed the whole damn city! Tore the wall down and everything! No one knows what happened to the regent, either!"
"Or most of the other noble families." The third merchant added. "A lot just went missing. Probably lost under the rubble." He looked at Night, who looked like he'd just been hit by a ton of bricks. "Hey, Night? You allright?"
Night blinked. "Uhh...Yeah. I just...need to sit down." Staggering back, he collapsed into a chair behind the counter, bringing his right hand up to cup his forehead. His head was pounding, and he felt nauseous. Ostia attacked. Nobles missing. For a reason Night wasn't sure of himself, the news made him sick to his stomache. Taking a few deep breaths to settle himself, Night stood up.
"I need to go to Ostia."

On a normal night a number of things could happen and none of them would be good. Fights could break out at any second, and Alcibie never tried to stop them. The only people who she healed for free were Night and Lilly. Of course, her daughter was asleep right now so all she had to worry about was her husband. There was no telling when he would attack on his own, but if someone did not have the coin for their drink all Alcibie had to do was point and the patron would be toast.
Alcibie normally just pumped travelers for information and locals for gossip. She needed to know these things they were good for business. That is why it came as a bit of a shock when Night stumbled away from the counter. For a split second Alcibie thought he was going to strike, but he continued back from the bar.
“Night?” Alcibie called out moving over quickly to his side. She noticed him holding his head and pulled off her own glove to feel for a fever. Night stood up and said something along the lines of going to Ostia.
“Oi! You two, what are you doing talking about? What is going on in Ostia?” Alcibie nearly barked, watching her husband and eyeing both of her staves and the herbs scattered about the place.

The three merchants paled. "O-O-Ostia's been destroyed." the first one piped up. "I-I-I didn't know he was going to act like that! I didn't think he was from Ostia!"
Meanwhile, Night was rummaging through the back room. "Where the bloody hell is it?" he wondered, tossing a box to the side so he could open another one. "A-Hah!" Reaching into the box, he pulled out what he was so desperately seeking: A shoulder guard, arm bracers, and shin guards. Night's old merc armor. Without hesitation, he strapped on the shoulder guard, and started tying the bracers too his arms.

“Yes, well…” Alcibie glance behind her to the back room where she heard a loud crash. “All of you out! Leave your coin on the table and do not think for a second I won’t be able to find you if you don’t leave it for me!” The cleric shouted, and watched as the men disappeared from her sight. She scoffed and moved towards the back room.
“Well…” Alcibie let her eyes rake over her husband and she smiled. “Now that is an attractive sight.” She smirked moving to hold the bracer in place as her man moved to finish his armor.
“Not saying that I don’t find your normal get up attractive, but you usually don’t put the armor on. Unless…I ask for it real nicely.” Alcibie tried to look coy, but Night was being serious. She was worried, Night did not act serious, part of her was nervous, and part of her was secretly hoping to get the hell out of the perfect place they had made for themselves. She hated that part of her.
“I guess this means you were serious about going to Ostia.” Alcibie spoke softly, thumbing the nicks in the armor. “What’s going on? What did they say that has you this worked up?”

Night accepted the help, fastening on the second bracer. Normally, he would have responded to her flirting with a few lude comments of his own, and probably a few actions as well. But he just knelt down and starting fastening on his shin guards.
"...I don't know." he admitted, standing up. "Just something about what they said. It made everything feel fuzzy. I can't explain it." Night said, looking down at his wife. "I've been waiting ten years for something like this, Alice. Ten years. And I might finally have a clue about who I am. I can't ignore that, no matter how small the chances might be." he explained, setting his hands on her shoulders. "Please, Alice, understand. I need to know."

“You would have an epiphany in the middle of the night…” Alcibie sighed and leaned her forehead against his. She tried to understand what was going on in his head, but she rarely did.
“You know I am not going to let you go alone.” The room was quiet for a bit filled with just their breathing and Alcibie had to pull away. “Well if we are randomly going to head out on some grand adventure when we could be here making money…I expect you to compensate me for this.” Alcibie said getting some of her normal bearings back.
“Clean up back here.” The cleric motioned to the mess he had made. “Find packs or something, and meet me in the front.”

Night kissed Alice's forehead. "Allright. We take as much as we can fit in the wagon." he replied. "Thanks, Alice." It was moments like these that he remembered the real reason he'd married this woman. When push came to shove, she was always on his side.
It wasn't hard to find containers for storage. They had more empty crates and barrels that they knew what to do with. No matter how hard she tried, Alice just couldn't buy beer fast enough to fill them all up at once. He carried out stacks of crates, rolled out a few barrels, then carried out more crates. Finally, he dusted off his hands. "That should be enough." he concluded. "Where did I leave my sword?"

Alcibie just looked at Night like he had lost his mind when he reentered. She had been cleaning the front packing away all the money into different pouches and gathering up the glasses. Then Night walks in and asks where his sword was.
“What?!” Alcibie blurts out bewildered. “Did you just ask me where your? Are you feeling alright? No, wrong question, you…never mind.” Alcibie put the tray of glasses down on the bar. Shaking her head and she placed some coins in a small case.
“Your sword is upstairs.” Alcibie was still trying to piece that together in her mind. Night forgot where his sword was, he had to be shaken. “Lilly’s up there, she’ll need to pack too.” Alcibie felt an irrational fear sweep over her, but she pushed it aside. “Why don’t you wake her? She’ll love to hear you convinced me to go to Ostia.”

"...Oh. right. By the night stand..." Night recalled. He himself was somewhat at a loss for words that he could forget where he kept his sword. "Allright, I'll get her up." he replied as he began climbing the stairs. "Convinced. You weaseled your way into this trip." he joked before disappearing upstairs.
Opening Lilly's door, Night sat down at the foot of the little girls bed, and gently nudged her with his hand. "Lilly. Lilly. Wake up, baby girl." he urged.

“Why?” Lilly pouted pulling the covers over her head. “It’s not light out and it’s cold. I like it warm. It’s warm in here.” Lilly curled herself into a ball under the blankets and came to a decision.
“I don’t have to get up because it’s not cold in here and it’s not light. Plus your daddy, so I don’t have too.” Lilly nodded to herself grabbing for her pillow.
“Unless this is a dream, and I am dreaming I am awake and you have cake? I like cake. Do you think the princess will have cake? I bet she eats cake. I think she would let good little girls eat cake.”

Night rolled his eyes, pulling the covers off of his daughter. "You're awake, Lilly, and no there is no cake.." he replied. "You've got to get dressed. We're going on a trip." he explained, poking at the little girls tummy. "Now, come on, time to get up."

Lilly grumbled in a horribly accurate imitation of both of her parents. “But we have ale!” Lilly pouted looking at her father. “What do you mean no cake?” She frowns and scrunched up her nose.
“Why do we have to get more ale? Did you drink it all? Mommy usually yells at you when you drink it all.” She eyed her father, obviously misunderstanding why she was being woken up, but come on she was five. “Princesses would get fed cake with every meal.”

Night shook his head. "No, sweety, we aren't getting ale. We're going on a vacation." Sorta kinda. "Tell you what. Get ready quickly, like a good girl, and we'll see if Mommy has any cake hidden downstairs." he offered, nudging the small girl, rocking back and forth on her bed. "Come on, baby girl."

“Vacation?” Lilly blinked not knowing what her father was going on about.
“Can I bring the book? I really love the book. I promise I will not put things on fire!” Lilly smiled jumping out of bed and staring up at her father with wonder. “Okay, I promise not to put special things on fire, m’kay please?”
“Please daddy please can the book come to?” Lilly begged. “I’ll get ready right now.” Lilly darted away and started moving rag dolls and clothes on to her now empty bed.

Night ran a finger through his hair as he considered his daughters request. "Allright, fine, but you're not allowed to burn anything without asking Mommy or me first, allright?" he replied, watching as she piled her things onto the bed. "Where's your travel bag, Lilly?" he asked. "Go get it for me and I'll help you back."
