It had been a nice detour in Laus for a little bit. Time enough to forget his troubles, and think about what could have been.
What could have been, if he had been half the man he thought he was.
But he knew his place was not among the city folk, not relaxing and letting his days pass by him without a care in the world. No, he needed to keep moving. Always seeking, never knowing what, that was what his life had been these past five years.
Something was calling him. He had to listen closely to hear it, but every now and again he heard the faintest whisper. And no matter how hard he tried to stay away from it, it kept pushing him east.
Valorian knew what was east, and for a while he thought it was his conscience, not a higher purpose, that was sending him there. Still, there was no fighting fate. After Ostia, those creatures hadn't been seen too much. It was possible there was something in Ostia that was causing them, but that was unlikely at best. In truth, the most rumors he'd heard about them was on the plains of Sacae.
And so here he was again, moving along the fields of grass that he could swear he had a hundred times. Why did fate like sending him to the places he was least comfortable?

Chelsea was riding quietly across the plains. It was tough leaving her father, but she knew she'd see him again. Now, she just had to figure out where the heck she needed to go. She knew she needed to go to Bern to keep up with Kelvin and everyone. But where in Bern were they? It was a big place and she had never actually been there. She kept trying to think of a way she could find them, and nothing had come to her yet expect aimlessly wandering and asking people until she found them.
Lost in her thoughts, it took her a few minutes to notice the young looking boy walking along ahead of her. He seemed to be some kind of priest or something? She had no idea, but he certainly looked out of place. "Um... excuse me? Do you need help?"

Valorian turned to the voice, smiling up at the young nomad in surprise. "Well well, I honestly expected if a Sacaen encountered me out here it would be with a weapon at my throat." He said with a bit of a dry laugh.
"No no, I assure you I am fine. Though I thank you for asking. And what brings you out all alone this morning, my child?" The my child bit sounded odd, since she looked roughly even to him in age, but it was part of the priest talk.
Chelsea might have noticed that he carried an odd looking staff in his right hand, while his left arm was hidden underneath his traveling cloak.
This girl, she didn't seem to mean him any harm, but he was expecting to receive a hostile reaction from the natives, and her concern was a bit surprising.

Chelsea was a bit taken back at being addressed as child, but moved passed it. She had met so many weird people already on her adventures, she really didn't question it anymore. "I'm on my way to reunite with a group of people who are probably in Bern by now." She paused, looking the strange person over. He must be some sort of religious guy. "And it's not polite to make jokes like that. We don't make crude jokes about you."

Valorian nodded to her with a regretful smile. "I beg your pardon, I just did not expect people like myself to be greeted warmly out here, considering recent events. I meant no offense, I assure you."
So she was traveling to Bern was she? He'd heard of the going on's in Bern, but he'd paid them no mind. The civil war was just another step of history, that wasn't what was wrong in the world.
She might not know anything, that was more then likely, but still he knew he'd have to ask.
"Excuse me, but have you heard of anything...odd...happening of the plains as of late?"
As to what exactly was odd, he left that open to interpretation.

Chelsea frowned. "Anything odd happening on the plains?" She thought back to see if her father had said anything about strange things happening, but couldn't think of anything. "No... why, what's been going on? It something wrong?" Now she was starting to get worried. She didn't want to leave her father if something was happening. Her worry was starting to show on her face. "Is it something... bad?"

Valorian looked over her, he hadn't expected her to know anything after all.
"Something wrong? Yes, you could say that." He spoke vaguely. "And yes it would be bad, I'm not sure if it is here though. It'll be obvious when it shows up, trust me."
He looked about the plains, judging by the position of the sun in the sky, that would mean he'd need to head...
"I happen to know their used to be an Ertuian Fortress on these plains, named 'Salvation Point' I believe. Do you happen to know anything about the place?"

"Salvation Point...?" Chelsea racked her brain for anything relating to the place. "I remember my father telling me something of the place when I was younger, but I really don't remember any of what he said." She shook her head. "And I have no idea what's going on there now. Sorry I can't be of more help, but that's all I know about it." She paused again. "I think it's northeast of here, if I'm thinking correctly. I don't know if that helps, but that's all I got." She gave a little smile. "Anything else I can help you with?"

Valorian smiled regretfully. "No no, I thank you for your help. I wish you a sa-"
He stopped for a moment, his face fell into a determined expression.
"Something isn't right...something is...Ack!" He shouted out in surprise as a skeletal hand erupted from the ground, clutching at his ankle.
He brought the haft of the staff down on the hand, splintering the brittle bones and pulling his foot free, just in time to several bodies in various states of decay bursting from the once pristine fields.
"Run!" He shouted to the Sacaen girl. She would be ill suited to handle these creatures. He was rapidly becoming more and more outnumbered, but that would have to be dealt with.
Why are they so close? They've never approached before....

Chelsea jumped as the bone-hand burst out of the ground and grabbed onto the young priest. She was officially freaked out. Spirit reared back as well, but didn't sprint away. It was times like this Chelsea marveled at what a horse Spirit was. Most would have ran, but she didn't. What a horse. But there were still these... creatures. And they did not look very friendly.
The priest shouted at her to run. But she didn't, at least not right away. "And leave you here by yourself with these... thing!?" She yelled back. "No way, I can't do that. Take my hand, we'll both get out of here together!" She reached down and offered her hand as a help up onto Spirit. She really wanted to get out of here, but she wasn't gonna leave him behind to be killed.

Valorian spared her a sideways glance, while smacking one of the abominations down with a one handed swing of the staff. It seemed to cause them to crumble in a strike, much like he figured it would, but more rose moving towards him.
They seemed drawn to him. He noticed her outstretched hand, and made to reach for it with his left hand, then realized that wasn't going to work. His right held the staff, and he wasn't going to drop that here. So how would he quickly and effectively mount the horse?
It only took a moment more before he had his plan, and held out the staff for her to grab on to as he attempted to jump up towards the horse. With a little pull from the Plainswomen, he made it, and smacked another creature away from the horse.
"Go now!" He said, doubting very much that she needed any such instruction.

"Hold on!" Chelsea yelled at Spirit reared again, this time taking off. She didn't bother to try and take out her bow as they rode, figuring it would be pointless. Spirit easily plowed through the things and galloped away as fast as she could. Both she and her rider wanted to put as much distance between them and those things as possible.
After a few minutes of full speed sprinting, Spirit started to slow. She kept moving, but now at a speed where Chelsea could talk to the priest. What was his name, anyway? She turned her head around to look at him. "W-What were those things? Why were they going after us? How did that staff kill them or whatever in one hit? What's your name?" Questions kept flowing from her lips, seemingly everything she wanted to know coming out at once. Normally, she'd ask questions like this move delicately, but she was spooked right now and wanted answers.

Valorian was partially relieved that the horse could run through the creatures. If it got wounded, they'd be in a bad spot. When the plains women started asking all her questions, he tried to answer the important ones as best he could. They'd slowed down, so now might be a better time.
"Those creatures, are the reason Ostia of Lycia is nothing more then a burning ruin." He said, answering the most important question first. "I am called Valorian, to answer the next question. The other two, I wish I had answers for myself."
He looked, they had certainly moved quite far in those few minutes. That was one fast horse.
"And I thank you for the help, it was appreciated." He added, still feeling like he owed her more.

"Ostia..." Chelsea muttered, thinking back to the ruins of the city they had ventured to what seemed like years ago now. Those creepy things did all that. She shiver at what they would do to a person if they got their hands on one. She didn't want to think about that, she was just never going to let one close enough. Then she shook her head. "Don't worry about, Sir Valorian. There was no way that I could leave anyone in danger like that. It was my pleasure making sure you got out of there safely."

He nodded to her with a smile, not like she could see it from where he was. He then turned, looking back over the plains. "So...headed to Bern eh? Dangerous times to be traveling, even if you only count the humans. These...things are bad enough, but there is a good deal of tension brewing in Bern as well. An outsider like yourself might not find a friendly welcome there, they don't take kindly to any foreign presence since the occupation."
He seemed to try and put the creatures out of his mind, when it truth they were at the forefront. "It wouldn't do to leave you out here alone with these...things about. I will escort you to Bern if you have no objections? The sacred light is quite adept at repelling these beasts, which is why I believe this staff can strike them down better then a blade can." He remarked, attempting to explain.
