Selk Mar stood in the midst of a field of potatoes, radishes, and carrots. He had lost track of the rag-tag group of allies from so long ago. He couldn't remember exactly how long it had been. He wiped the sweat from his brow as he had a faint flashback of their adventures together. Though he'd been doing work for farmers all around Lycia since he lost their trail back then. His jobs ranged from harvesting the crops to protecting the livestock, and in some cases the farmers, from the so called 'Doom Wolves' that had popped up. Selk himself had been one of the first to encounter them if he recalled correctly. His group fought them off before people became widely aware of their existence.

Selk grimaced as he remembered how vicious those things were then and still are now. He smiled, though, as he distinctly remembered how fate seemed to shine on him in those days. So many times he teetered on the edge of life and death in his beginning battles. He was still grateful to be alive today. He pulled the last couple of rows of Carrots from the plot of land he'd been hired to harvest and put them into the wheel barrel. He casually pushed it over half a mile back to the farmer's home. He placed it in the barn for safe keeping and then proceeded to knock on the farmer's door. The sun was on the horizon and Selk still had to eat dinner and head back to the inn where his room was. His armor and lance were back in his room at the inn. It cost him a bit extra, but he had a wooden lockbox at the foot of his bed and a lock placed on his door at the inn. He couldn't afford to part with his armor or his lance. They held sentimental value beyond any amount of gold.

"The harvest is ready to be sorted and taken to market early tomorrow, Mr. Riley," Selk said with a smile as the farmer opened the door. Mr. Riley nodded to Selk and moved to the side of the doorway, motioning the young man inside. "Step on in, Selk. Shana's got a stew over the fire. It'll be done shortly."
Selk nodded back and stepped inside, moving to the dining table and sitting down to the right of Mr. Riley as he had come accustomed to the past few weeks. "I know I've said it before, but her cooking reminds me so much of what my mother and sisters made back home. It's always good."

((Hope you don't mind. I thought this was a good place to come back with my monk ^^ And I was wondering if you needed someone to join.))
Lycia sure was a frightening place...especially here. There was no hidden rumors about Ostia. It was quite well rumored that things of the dead, and other such monstrosities, had roamed free. When Setsuna had heard of this, she had broken apart from Garnet, Elias, and the rest, to see for herself, though she did o without saying goodbye. That was...probably something she regret the most. Never had the acolyte done something o rude before.
Now wandering by the outskirts of what used to be a grand city, the sun was setting quickly, and she had done little to prepare herself for the coming darkness. Thankfully, everywhere she went, light would be with her. As her boots scuffed the hard-packed road, and night settled onto the lands, Setsuna held her tome in one hand under her left arm, and her other hand up.
A glowing orb of pure light shone from her fingertips, it was warm to her touch, loving even, in how it felt. She never got to use her magic much as she was strictly warned on not using it. However, this was a cause for need, not having a torch on hand. It drew very little magic as it was, which was probably good for her, but as darkness settled, she became very...noticible.
A stirring in the wilderness was brought to her attention, and her large violet eyes widened even more, hearing grass soften, metal clinking, and then, the audible tree branch being stepped on. Though this was near farmland, the plains could carry the sound over quite some distance with aid of the light wind.
This wasn't good...this wasn't good at all. Her light was pushed into the direction of the sounds, and she shot the ball of light out towards the oncoming noise, and hen exploded, cascading the area above, and below, in a shower of light.
Almost immediately she heard a curse from the lead man as they were discovered. Highwaymen. As they charged, Setsuna ran for her life, down the road, in opes of finding civilization, She had a good lead, but running in these robes was haphazard. For the life of her, she screamed.

Ooc: Me too.
Ic: Cen was back in Lycia from Bern. He had only been there for maybe three days, but something brought him back to Lycia. Specifically Ostia. The things Felane had said about the Nobility of his character made a place in a state such as Ostia seem perfect. Perfect for glory, honor, and knighthood, to be in the farm-boy's grasp.
Darkness came, and Cen could barely see his hand in front of his face. However, the squire had heard of some Hellish beasts that roamed these parts, and he wouldn't stop. He stumbled around feeling for the path to stay on the hard-packed road. He was just getting up for the fourth time, adjusting the slim lance on his back as he heard a feminine scream.
He ran toward the scream, stumbling, but moving as fast as he could. He finally came upon an area that seemed slightly lit. He saw a group of men chasing a girls figure. Cen was fast and caught them as the girl fell. He broke through the smaller men, getting between them and the girl. The pretty girl, Cen thought. Why are you thinking about that at a time like this you idiot?, he thought again. He turned to the highwaymen and said, "I don't know what your quarrel is with this woman is. But a group of men chasing one girl seems sketchy to me." Cen pulled out his lance, trying to look threatening, "Very sketchy."

Selk had just taken the first few bites of his stew when the sound of a young woman's scream pierced the silence through the open dining room window. Selk frowned since he didn't have his equipment with him. If there was trouble he wouldn't be able to help out very much. "Thank you for the meal. I've finished my work here for this season, so I won't be back tomorrow. I'd like to explain more, but it sounds like someone needs my help. If you hear a howl, lock your doors and windows."
Selk stood up and rushed out the door and down the beaten dirt path towards the scream. He slowed his pace when a faint light came into view with shadowy figures near it. Selk crouched down and moved off of the path into the bushes, slowly and quietly. He made his way to about forty feet behind the gathering and to the left side of Setsuna and Cen.
Alright...let's hope this works, because I can't exactly fight them this way. With that thought, Selk let out a howl. He did his best to imitate the 'Doom Wolves' that he'd encountered on multiple occasions before. He hoped that the attackers would flee back to their hideout in fear, leaving the ones in need of help to run towards the nearby town. This would put them on a course to run into Selk. If they did happen to do this, Selk would step out of the bushes onto the path and be waiting on them. He had to wait and see how the opposition reacted to his howl, though.
Either way they'd have to get back to town quick, as Selk's attempted howl could have actually alerted a real threat....

The howl seemed to draw everyone's attention. Setsuna really didn't notice Cen too much, but she knew there was a man trying to, atleast, defend her. That much, she was grateful for, but it seemed like there was something more dangerous coming about. Setsuna had heard wolves before, but that sound was odd. Could it be one of those Doomwolves she had heard about?
Getting to her feet in a scrambling manner, the highwaymen seemed to look all around, as if trying to position whee they may get attacked. It was clear they too were skittish around the prospect of these hard to kill beasts.
"This isn't...it's not Worth it, Boys!"
The men retreated, just as Setsuna had begun preparing an attack to defend herself, the holy energy in her hand illuminating her body, and that of the nearby area, but since the men were fleeing, there was no need to attack, what was done was done. However, they were only halfway out of the woods, so to speak. Turning to her left, where she heard the howl, Setsuna readied herself.
"To the left, man! The beasts of hell will set upon us!" It was clear she was speaking to Cen.

As Cen heard the howl he contemplated the fact that he could of set up camp, and been brutally killed by monsters in his sleep. But he was here now, and the present threat was the men attacking the girl. Oh, nevermind, they were smart and left. Great, with more people around, it was less likely to be attacked by the wolves. Now that's out of the way, only two people for a pack to take down.
As he was about to say, come on let's get out of here, she decided it was time to fight. Apparently she was an Acolyte, he guessed, she just started, he didn't know glowing. Great, get to die with a girl who he don't even know the name of. He planted his lance in the dirt, and waited.

To ensure that he didn't get blasted or impaled, Selk spoke before stepping out of the bushes. Now that the thugs had high-tailed it out of there, he had little to worry about he hoped. "Relax...I'm no Doom Wolf, although I've fought them several times in the past. We should head towards town as swiftly as possible. My call may have alerted some of the real beasts. I'll explain more back in town at the inn I'm staying at. For now, just follow me."
Selk, having given little explanation of much of anything other than the implication that he had come to help the two travelers, turned without another word and set stride towards town. It was getting darker by the minute and he didn't want to be anywhere, town, fortress, or otherwise at night in the countryside.

Cen lifted his lance from the ground as a guy walked out of the bushes. "How ya' doin?"was all the squire could think to say. He wasn't sure if he should follow. He had met two people in Ostia, and they had both already given him orders. Well whatever, better to die in a warm inn by a human then out in some road by a wolf. He motioned to the girl who's name he didn't know. "After you, miss." He would cover her rear, err, watch her backside, err, walk in the back, because he was probably better protected than her. Yeah, that one.

Setsuna lowered her hand. She had been prepared to throw her metaphorical 'weight' around, and possibly blow him away with her holy magic, but she stayed her and, once the man announced himself, and stepped forwards. Trying to look not too relieved that she had been saved, she did, however, breathe a sigh of relief.
"Ah...yes...good idea...I'd rather not stay outside longer than I'd have to.."
Names could wait, they were not important if the chance of dying was near. With her tome tucked under her left arm, she started forward to Selk, after Cen, gracious as he was, allowed her to lead before him. This kind of manner was not lost onto her. It was good to see that women of the cloth were protected still.

Selk made sure to keep a fairly swift pace as the three walked along. In no time they passed the road to the farm that Selk had been working at earlier in the day. The sun had almost fully retreated below the horizon at this point, so only the light from Setsuna's magic was allowing them to see. He didn't care for the awkward silence, even between strangers, so Selk spoke up, "I suppose now that the riffraff is out of the picture formal introductions are in order. My name is Selk Mar. I'm from Caelin. I'd have taken a more direct approach to those thugs, but my armor and weapon are back in town. I was working for a day's pay at that farm we just passed."
Even with my equipment that would have been an uphill battle. We would have been outnumbered, and there wasn't much of a way to use the terrain to our advantage there. Selk waited for a reply of some sort. One ended conversations were never really enjoyable.

Cen waited for Setsuna to respond to Selk. He felt the two of them probably had more interesting lives then him. But he eventally spoke up loud enough for Selk to hear him, "I'm Cen. I'm a farm-hand from Cornwell, and a stable-hand. Oh, and I fetched water, and helped the cooks. And helped build houses alot. And, uh, fighting them would of been really hard. I'm not the most experienced Squire." Cen waited a few seconds before saying, " So, Ostia huh? What's that all about." He didn't intend for it to sound akward. It was a joke about the akward situation. Hopefully they understood.

Setsuna was mostly quiet, only because on principle, she didn't know who they were. Peeking around a little, Setsuna watched the darkness whee her light could not touch. Eventually the social protocol entitled her to say her piece, so to speak.
"I'm Setsuna, from Eturia.."
She mumbled a little, her past was uninteresting, well, not true, but unneeded to share anyways.

Selk could see that they were getting much closer to the town, but he kept his ears open to both sides of the path. They weren't to safety just yet. He had plans to start his search in the morning. He wanted to find the friends he'd been separated from several months ago. He had two promises to keep, after all. One he could keep whether he was around them or not, but the other he kind of had to be there for them. "Heh...I understand farm life quite well, Cen. I used to help my mother and sisters on our farm less than two years ago."
Selk paused at that, not wanting to take up the whole conversation. Setsuna mumbled her name and homeland in the brief silence that followed Selk's words. He gave a reply in the form of a question to both of them, "So, where are you both headed? I'm not sure of my path at the moment. I'm going to look for a group of comrades of mine that I got separated from a while back. I'm going about my search a bit blindly because I don't know where they would be currently."
