The sun was low, just recently risen above the trees around the foot fo Mt. Twilight. On a hill sat an impossibly large building, the only structure for miles. inside, rhythmic clicks and hums came from a myriad of machines processing incredible amounts of data and men in white coats milled about conducting experiments. One such man in a white lab coat sat in his chair at a huge desk. He leaned back, rolling a minimized pokeball across the wooden desk surface. His ridiculously long pompadour suggested youth in the man, but the gray wings just under the green hairdo that resembled a bread roll showed the man was getting on in years. He sat, playing with the pokemon storage and transportation device. Thoughts ran through his head, but not the usual thoughts pertaining to his research. These thoughts were of what the pokeball was for. This man was a father. Not in the literal sense, but he did have a "son" of sorts. Rather, it was his best friends' son, but their untimely death fifteen years ago landed their child in his care. In the years since that day, he had grown to love the boy as his own, something he thought he would never feel towards a child. He raised him as a brilliant future authority. And it just so happened to be the day he was to let him go and experience the world. The real world. the world that this be-pompadoured man was too afraid to face himself. The pokeball held the pokemon that was to be the boy's first companion. The man felt a heavy flipper wrap around his shoulder. Looking behind him, he saw his empoleon, a concerned look on it's face. "Not to worry, old friend. I'm alright. I just need to cope with the fact that I won't be able to keep him from this horrible world any longer."It was that moment that the door tot he facility swung open, a young man running through to the professor. "Professor Pine! You'll never believe it! When I delivered the package you gave me, the clerks gave me this!"The boy showed the professor a pokedex and an identification card that read "Official License to Train and Battle Pokemon" on it. Professor Pine sighed and placed a hand on the boy's head. "I know, Lucas. I filled out the paperwork last night. Also, take this." the pokemon authority handed him the pokeball, "Inside is the swinub you're so fond of. He'll be your first pokemon."Lucas' eyes welled up and he rushed to embrace his godfather. Professor Pine sat motionless for a moment and then wrapped his arms around him. "Thank you..." Lucas breathed, voice wavering from tears of happiness. He was both overjoyed to finally start his pokemon training, but also melancholy about leaving the lab after such a long time living there. "I'll go pack my things. I have a lot of research to do out in the field!" Lucas stepped away from his godfather and ran upstairs. - - - - - Amanda looked up at the pale morning sky. She dusted herself off from her hike through the mountain trails around Mt. Twilight and shook the dirt and dust from her long blonde locks. Peering up the dirt path, she spied a gigantic complex that looked like it was built by a madman. "That's got to be the place!" Amanda said to herself. With her boundless energy, she ran towards the building excited for what awaited her.

Rina had arrived in Dias just the other day, she and many other trainers. Upon landing they were told to head to the local professor, who didn't live too far away, to catch their first pokemon.
Rina already had Jeanette, but she decided to go to the lab anyways to see the other pokemon there. It was kind of exciting, actually, seeing some younger trainers getting hyped up before they got their pokemon.
She supposed that this Prof. Pine had some experience with trainers if he was letting them catch his pokemon for free. Some trainers had to start somewhere, but at least Rina already got hers from her uncle. That way she wouldn't have to be in a race to catch the 'best' pokemon available.

Athos ran toward the Lab, wanting to get there early so that he had a chance to catch a good pokemon. He saw a few other trainers arriving, so he slowed down. He had no idea what Pokemon to get, maybe he'd try to call his brother, so he could ask which type of moves were the best. He sort of accidentally found the room with Mr. Pine in it. He was the only other person with the guy so far he noticed, although it sounded like somebody was leaving. He said, "Umm, hi, I'm Athos. I'm here to catch my first Pokemon."

The Dias region was a sharp contrast to Kanto. Mason would have to get acquainted with such an unnatural change, especially since this was his first time traveling away from home alone for an extended period of time. He was nineteen, and more than ready to face the world and its many hardships.
Mason had arrived at Dias on a ferry the day before, with the instruction of heading due west to Professor Pine's lab. He had already received Vulpix a few days before (courtesy of his uncle), but except for occasionally letting it out of its Poke Ball to play with it, the six-tailed fox Pokemon had no battle experience whatsoever. Besides, Mason was interested in checking out other Pokemon at the lab. Back in Kanto, he had heard stories and broadcasts of the famed Professor Oak, whose research highlighted rare Pokemon as well as the general study of the species. This excited Mason, heightening his attitude for the time being.
Mason had walked for a fair amount of time, the western path surprisingly quiet. After about a mile or so, a gargantuan complex loomed over him with a highly decorated sign on the building's exterior that read "Professor Pine's Pokemon Research Laboratory". Smirking, he entered the compound, receiving a small shock when a younger boy ran by him, clearly ecstatic. Another girl was checking out the building's interior, apparently shocked that he had found a certain room. Mason simply ignored their presences and waited patiently for the professor in the entrance hall.

You know, he had lived in the Dias region his entire life... and never had he seen this place. Or any of these places. In fact the whole ride over to here had been a completely new and alien experience, that kinda frightened him if anything. It all made him feel so small. The world he knew, the confines of Skyline Rise, was only one small part of the world. One very very small part. Island after island, town after town, on his way here he had saw things that he only knew existed through the television. This was just one small part of the world as well, it was maddening to wrap his head around it all. All he knew is it made him feel so very very tiny, so insignificant. Inconsequential to anything the world it was almost funny.
The sun perked up on the horizon, peeking over the trees that surrounded him. He was all alone, Erika his nanny couldn't come, she remained on the ship that had ferried him here. His butler was miles away along with all of his things, only what he could pack in his sack being the only things he had anymore. Ahead lied a large building, one that completely stood at odds with the surrounding scenery. It all felt so anachronistic, with the nature surrounding this building looking like it fell straight out of some sci-fi story. Edgar lifted his head up, trying to see the top of this incredibly giant building, but only hurting his neck in the process. Somehow, he found his self in front of the building, feeling a bit suffocated with all the other people coming for the "weekly new trainer day" he just wanted to go home. He didn't want to do any of this.
For what felt like hours, he just stared at the building and the gate. It appeared he blended in with the scenery or something, as many passed him and not a one paid him a second's notice. It was almost a refreshing change, but not particularly a positive one. Inside lied professor Pine... and his first pokemon. A bagon, his father's bagon. Son of the legendary pokemon. Heh... son of the pokemon and son of the trainer, it was almost as if fate arranged this specifically. Once that Bagon was born, it was what drove his father to force Edgar out, knowing that he would never find a more perfect starter.
"Ok.... Just... Just calm down... Ed. Eddie. Ed-boy." His own voice sounded like a joke at this point. He could do this. Still he had to sigh. It would be weeks, months, hell maybe years before he found his way home. IF he found his way home. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. So with a gulp, he bolstered what little courage he had and strode into the lab. It wasn't hard to find where the professor was, despite it being brobdingnagian in size, if only because that's where everyone was huddling. Most of the people were around his age, except one who was basically an adult. He gravitated towards the back, trying to hide out of sight, he'll talk to Professor Pine when everyone else was done.

A young man was near Rina, talking to himself. He seemed distressed about something, and stayed near the back of the group.
"Hey, are you okay? Don't worry, I'm sure that you'll get yourself a fine pokemon to start your journey with. Isn't it great to be so far from home?" Rina patted the young man on the back and smiled brightly.
Honestly she was a little nervous. Being so far from home, responsible for everything she did. Almost as if there were such a thing as Poke-College.

Someone was talking near him, or to him. He wasn't sure. There wasn't anyone else trying to blend in with the walls, but who knows? Maybe they're just really good at it. He pulled his vest down slightly, unsure of what to say. "Uhm, yeah. I'm fine, I'm just not used to... so many people." He had a nervous forced smile, one that looked really uncomfortable, like someone was holding him hostage and ordering him to act like everything was fine.
"I kinda miss my home... but I'll see it again some day. I'm, erm, Edgar." He left off his last name on purpose. Though he wasn't sure how popular his father was around here, it was better safe then sorry. Especially if he's going to be traveling through the radiance islands. He already knew what pokemon he was going to get, but he didn't want to up and say it. She seemed to excited about it and he didn't want to burst that bubble. "I can't help but feel really... anxious over all of this. This is my first time being so far away."

"Edgar, huh? I'm Rina, from Hoenn, nice to meet you." She stuck out her hand for a handshake.
"You know, you kinda remind me of my uncle. He was always really sick when he was younger, but eventually he got up and wanted to be a pokemon trainer. He overcame his illness and became a great pokemon trainer, so don't let your anxiousness get the best of you, okay?"
Uncle was a little strange, but he had a kind heart. He even helped Rina catch her first pokemon, who he said was the same pokemon he had caught, surprisingly. He was one of the influences that made Rina want to become a pokemon trainer.

Heh... sickly. He was always called sickly by his nanny growing up, not that he was really. He's just always had bit of a weak constitution, maybe this exercise will be good for him? As terrifying as the idea was to him, then again what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? Or it leaves you horrifying crippled and on life support for the rest of your agonizing existence. Either or really. He looked down at her hand, and gave it a second of thought.
"Nice to meet you Rina." He replied, gripping her hand. Hoenn, huh? That's where... hrm... who was it again? Steven, or something. Or Wallace, he didn't remember, they were the champion though. The place had a lot of water, kinda like Dias. "I'm from here. Urm, not here here, I mean Dias. I from the Ebony island, a town called Skyline Rise. There's... an, uhm, gym there so you'll probably see it eventually." He felt a bit embarrassed being compared to someone she seems to hold in high esteem, he knew she couldn't just be trying to compliment him because of who he was. Mainly because she didn't even know, so it was genuine at the least.
"So you already have your... pokemon?" He had assumed that nobody had their pokemon yet, and were waiting for the professor. Still, even if she had a pokemon it would be beneficial to be here if only for some direction on where to go and information about the league.

The young man had a weak handshake. He must be really scared if he didn't have a nice strong handshake like a real man. That's how Rina was able to determine different types of men, their grip strength.
"Skyline Rise... that's the second-to-last gym, right? I'm sure you'll be back home before you know it, Eddie." she smiled brightly after giving him that nickname.
"Oh, so you noticed my pokeball, huh?" Rina looked down at her waste and could see Jeanette's ball hanging off of her belt. "Yes, my uncle wanted me to have a pokemon specifically from Hoenn, so he helped me catch her. I'm just here in case there's anything else I need to know."

Amanda's dusty feet tracked through the clean entrance hall of the lab as she looked around in awe of the building. It was so... technological! Machines and beeps and boops everywhere! She stood back from the gathered children at the facility. Amanda didn't want any distractions from getting her first pokemon. Hoever, something in the crowd caught her ear from the assembled crowd. She ran up to a girl and a boy roughly her age speaking to one another.
"Hi! You're from Hoenn? Me, too! Do you know Steven? My uncle's pretty famous over there." Her long hair that was done up in pig tails bounced with her energetic movements. It was all she could do to not just shout out from anticipation.

Lucas had finished packing his things and threw on his red jacket. Pulling the collar of his black shirt up, he stepped out of his room, saying a silent farewell to it for taking such good care of him. He latched his swinub on to his belt and tied a new bandanna he bought the day before to his head. Every step he took down the stairs felt like a small goodbye tot he lab. It had been his home for fifteen years. Suddenly having to leave it was getting more difficult by the second. He knew he wanted to go out and see the world, but he hadn't realized what it really meant. No more security, no more Professor to rely upon. It was just going to be himself and his pokemon.
The boy finally reached the stairs' landing and looked over at his godfather. The eccentric, reclusive man got closer as Lucas made his way to the desk and the two walked over to the door that separated the main lab from the entrance hall. Professor Pine sighed.
"Every week. Every week I have to let these... children track dirt all over my clean laboratory! Still, I suppose it's a service that must be done, being the only authority in the region." he sighed once more, "Alright. Let us go greet the little urchins."
Lucas swung the door open and the two walked onto a high platform overlooking the crowd of would-be trainers. Professor Pine hung his head, getting ready to go through the agonizing process that was sure to take all morning. Lucas patted his gaurdian on the back and descended the stairs to watch him speak. The professor cleared his throat loudly enough to catch the attention of the children below him.
"Welcome, prospective trainers! Today, you begin your days in the Pokemon League. My name is Professor William Vincent Pine" William held for applause. WHen none came, he his face shifted from fake showmanship to irritated apathy, 'Just follow my assistant to the ranch. I'll meet you all there shortly..."
The professor's lab coat billowed behind him as he went back into his lab. A man in glasses and a white lab coat walked up to the crowd assembled in the entrance hall.
"Well, then. If you will follow me, I will take you all to the ranch. Further instructions will be given when we get there." the man placed a hand to one side of his mouth as is to shield what he was saying from the room above him, "Just between you and me, the professor is not in a very good mood this morning. Please humor him. His own godson is leaving on his own pokemon journey today."

"Y-Yeah. It's the dragon gym, I don't... well know the leader all that personally. But he's a friend of my father." Still before he was even done talking, some other person came by and struck up conversation with this Hoenn girl. She seemed to be from Hoenn too. How many foreigners were here? Well he couldn't say he wasn't relieved, since he just knew he was sounding like a complete wuss and idiot and what not a second ago. Not even able to keep his words straight, what was wrong with him? It was a bit of a relief to not really have to worry about that anymore, since she seemed to be preoccupied with this new person and it was time for them all to move on anyways.
Truth be told, he feels like he's kind of lying. Everyone else was about to get their pokemon without knowing what it was, but he had the good fortune to know before hand. Of course he's never actually met the pokemon itself, he didn't really deal with pokemon much in person. His father's Salamence was always a bit intimidating, but the help usually took care of it. Or rather his father's personal pokemon breeder. Still there was more then a few times he found his self trying to imagine it was like for his father, flying in the skies with his pokemon.
Oh, right, following the aide to the pastures. Apparently the professor was in no good mood, his own protégé was starting a journey today as well. It must of been that one person with him, looking around Ed's age. The professor definitely looked annoyed enough, but Edgar probably wouldn't appreciate having to do this every week his self.
However, he didn't really know the, er, what he was supposed to do. Where they supposed to make a line or something? He'd like to be in the back then, though he was anxious to get this whole thing over with.

Mason let a deep sigh escape from his lips as a professor finally addressed the crowd of Trainers, the majority of them younger than Mason.
This was not Professor Pine, but he could certainly pass of as such with his professional-looking attire. He seemed to possess a good work ethic, with a humorous side about him.
The aide motioned for everyone to form a line and follow him. Mason stuck out like a sore thumb among the mass of younger teenagers, with his towering height of 6'2. He didn't care all that much, though. He had far better things to dwell on, such as the prospect of seeing rare Pokemon.
Exhaling sharply, Mason waded and weaved through the sea of kids, finding a suitable place near the middle of the pack, still not keen on meeting anyone new at present time.

Rina was taken by surprise by a girl who seemed very eager to be here.
"No way. You're the niece of the old champion, Steven Stone? Omigosh that is awesome. But, he dropped out of the news after he relegated his title, I haven't heard anything about him since then..."
The professor came out and said a few words, giving it over to his assistant. Rina followed the crowd heading outside, even if she wasn't going to do anything out there. Maybe she could find more people from Hoenn.

A blond haired young man ran a hand through his hair, sighing as he approached Prof. Pine's lab. In his hand he held an old, dusty map, which he brought up to his gaze, giving it another once over. Yeah, this was the right place. Well, at least that's what the map said. "Geez, talk about the middle of nowhere," muttered the teenager to himself. "Didn't think I was going to find the place."
It didn't really look like a pokemon lab to Tiberius. Sure, there wasn't a ton of science going on in Redrock, so he wasn't really an expert on the subject, but weren't there supposed to be like machines or something? And pokeballs? This looked more like an office building attached to a ranch, what with all the grass and fencing. It may have been a bit silly, but Tiberius had half expected the place to look like a pokeball with a door. Expectations be darned. Maybe it was all on the inside.
The blond haired trainer felt a tug on his pant leg. Looking down, it seemed Larvitar was trying to get his attention. "What? You wanted to walk, so I'm letting you walk," responded Tiberius, attempting to decipher the tiny, but extremely dense pokemon. Well, physically dense anyway, but it was a bit tough getting through that head sometimes. Larvitar wasn't stupid, though, he just tended to get distracted easily. Larvitar just shook its head, opening its mouth. "Ah, you're hungry," said Tiberius aloud. Larvitar nodded, not saying anything. Larvitar was a pretty quiet pokemon. He didn't "talk" as much as a lot of other pokemon. Tiberius didn't mind. He'd come to understand Larvitar well enough.
"Well..." said Tiberius, looking around. He could understand why the pokemon was hungry. It had been all grass and trees for the last few miles or so. Sure, Larvitar could eat soil, but he preferred rocks, boulders, and rocky dirt. As well, Tiberius preferred not to have Larvitar digging up trenches all over people's property. It wasn't a big issue around the mining sites, but the little pokemon was like a mole, eating big grooves into the ground wherever he went.
"Maybe Pine's got some big rocks in his lab. Can't imagine they don't have any rock pokemon in there," said Tiberius. "That way, you can go to town while I pick up my license. Ok?" The little pokemon just nodded its head eagerly and fell back in behind Tiberius as they both made their way for the door.
"Don't see anybody. I hope I didn't need to make an appointment or something," wonder the blond haired trainer as he reached for the door handle.
