Aaron Winsett, rookie sage, scholar of history, and amateur story teller stood at the bottom of the foothills that he'd just left. He figured that he could probably add "avid traveler to his list now. He'd successfully traveled the length of Lycia, through the west of Bern, and now was setting foot in eastern Etruria. He'd managed to find the path he was looking for a day or so ago, and now, it had led them to exactly the place he'd known of: Lisa Saint's Greenhouse.
The woman was well known for her study of exotic plants and the like. At least, Barek had spoken highly of her. She supplied almost all of the things which grew on the the Aaron's Grandfather's facility. Particularly the sort of plants that were difficult to cultivate in local climates.
The sage looked. Ahead of them was a patchwork of fields, small forests, and a drainage pond. A cluster of what was likely beehives was near the large house situated among the hills. The house itself was a two story. Several chimneys poked up across the house, large windows flanking two ends of the structure. All in all, it looked very large, and well established. The green-haired sage wondered how many workers were needed to man the place.
"There. Lisa Saint is known in certain circles as one of the most knowledgeable herbalists in the known world. I'm hoping she'll let us restock supplies here.... I've never met her, but my Grandfather's had many dealings with her in the past."

Saffra followed behind at her own leisurely pace. If the dragoness got too far behind, she could catch up quickly. She didn't think she was slowing anyone down by doing what she wanted, or went about her own way. With a stretch of both her arms, and wings, she saw the building come into view. With a grumble, she rummaged through the small pack she kept at her side, and took out her cloak, the white fabric swung around her, and hid her wings. Pulling up the cowl, she just gave a flat stare at the greenhouse.
"Our detour was for an apothecary?"
Was it really JUST to restock for supplies? If they needed any, they could have held out easily until the next town they came to, they surely would have everything. Aaron probably just wanted to meet her for his own reasons.
"Well, lets get going..."

Xavier smiled as they approached the house. So, the mage who lived here was a herbalist, eh? Hmm... Xavier might not be able to learn much about magic from the herbalist but at least she might know a little about the fundamentals and such that Xavier needed, and so Xavier became slightly happier and more enthusiastic as compared to when he was travelling towards the herbalist's home.
"Do you think maybe she could give a little advice on magic usage?", Xavier asked the mage that had brought them to the herbalist's house.
Being so close, yet possibly so far to learning some magic, left Xavier trembing slightly in anticipation and excitement. It was probably great for him that he was riding on Ralph and not walking, for he probably would not be able to walk steadily in his current state of adrenaline.

Aaron started walking down the path, out of the mountains towards the place.
"Not just an Apothecary, Saffra. There's something here that I'd like to get. Something that I'm hoping I can use to shake Lily.... It's also not truly a detour.
The sage still thought that this whole thing sounded like a set of events from a fantasy story. It might all be just a stupid dream, but he refused to believe that. Too many factors pointed to it all being true. The memory dump Lilith had given him seemed particularly strange, and he was still puzzling everything out from it.
"This happens to be near the place we're going. Just a small to mid-sized village with a wall around it.... That was days ago though...." The last bit was mumbled under his breath, more of an afterthought.
Over the days of traveling, the sage had not been idle. Keeping his feet moving kept his mind engaged, and he kept going back to that dream, with Lilith in it. She'd reshaped her world as she'd seen fit. Like in a dream.... He figured that he'd need to be ready for a battle of the minds with this demon, to stand a chance, but this being.... How strong was it? Aaron was great at altering dreams, and had an overactive creativity, but this was something unchallenged. He would wager his victory on strength alone.
"I'm sure she's got the skill, Xavier, if you've got the questions."
Arriving at the door, the sage hesitated a moment, before knocking on the door in a firm, sturdy knocking. A moment later, a woman's voice rang out from inside the house. The sound seemed to be coming from half way across the structure, but the many open windows let the sound carry far enough.
"Half a minute! I'll be there shortly!"
The voice... She sounded far younger than Aaron had imagined Lisa Saint as. It was only a brief moment before a young, blond-haired beauty came to the door.
"Yes? What do you want, strangers?"
The abrubtness of her greeting caused Aaron to wince a little. He'd done that before. Now that he got a taste of it himself, he could see why it was annoying.
"I... My name is Aaron Winsett, and these are my companions, Xavier, and Saffra.... I was hoping to speak with Lisa."
The woman's expression shifted, her lips quirking into an odd sort of half frown, half smirk.
"Well, you'd better come in then.... There's going to be a bit of explaining done, and then we'll see if I can't help you myself. Come on. Go to the sitting room down to the right. I'll join you shortly."
Aaron was curious about the place, and what its situation was. He took in the graceful, furnishings as he did as he was instructed. Somehow, it seemed to give off an elegance, without seeming pretentious. He reached the sitting room mentioned, but didn't actually sit down. All around the room were bookshelves stocked with many different subjects at hand. Many seemed to be about gardening. Big surprise.
"Quite a place." The sage made the comment idly. It did seem well equipped and well decorated so far. His Granfather's academy was larger, but this place seemed... more like home?

Saffra just gave a shrug, and left it at that. There was no reason to discuss it further, this wasn't her quest, and she was only coming along because this interested her, and also to kill Aaron if something went awry. Hopefully, it didn't come to that, it'd be a shame to kill someone handsome, who has so much going for him in his short life.
It didn't take long to reach the front door, but in her white cloak, she stuck out like a sore thumb, and it was taking all of her concentration not to move her wings. In honesty, it would have been so much easier to just have them disappear, but she wasn't used to the weight without them, and would be a touch tipsy. Hearing the lady answer, she too, thought the same, the woman sounded much younger than she might be, much like herself, of course!
The fact at the odd greeting didn't grate on her as she noticed it did on Aaron, with a smile, she inwardly laughed, but as she was introduced, she gave a bow of her head, light purple hair bouncing with her head bob.
Saffra remained quiet, she had no part in asking things she had no knowledge of, but as she was led to the sitting room, she was a touch amazed at all the books, it reminded herself of when she was much younger, living in a home with a library. Automatically, she opted to stand, due to her wings, and went to the bookshelf, lifting a finger to read the titles on the side, some were well worn out, some were not.
"Read it...read it...read it..." Saffra continued on in this manner, humming quietly, until she found a book that looked different in title than she thought. It was about Lycian herbs, she knew a fair amount about them from reading books, but this book wasn't one she had ever read before. Plucking from the bookshelf, she shamelessly started to read.

Xavier smiled at the mage's reply. That was most definitely an open approval for Xavier to ask the herbalist about any part of the arcane arts that Xavier could learn or practice in the future. Xavier was pretty excited about the questions that he could ask as well as the answers and knowledge that he would gain in return for those questions. This was a prime opportunity, Xavier knew, for him to gain some first hand knowledge or experience on a little of the arcane arts. Xavier had already known a little of the different forms of magic; Anima, Light and Elder.
The main problem was that Xavier had not learnt about how he could invoke any of the magics. All he had learnt to do was to channel his energy through his Staff and use the Staff as a medium to transform his energy into a force that could alter the environment in some way or other, such as to heal wounds or to place someone else under a spell of hypnosis.
Xavier was broken out of his thoughts when the mage had rung the doorbell and obtained an extremely curt response from a woman that had appeared from the house. The abrupt reply had somehow caused the mage some discomfort which had caused the winged woman, who had covered her wings with a cape, to laugh in response. All Xavier did was to look at the woman from the house with an awkwardness that shown very clearly on his face.
The woman, had, despite the weird responses from Xavier's companions, invited them unto a comfortable looking sitting room, with rows of rows of books in bookshelves along the walls of the room that had led to the ceilings. The mage had immediately taken a fascination with the room, and the winged woman had wandered off to the shelves and chosen a book from among them to read. Xavier just stood where he was, looking around the room, awestruck. It was a good thing ghat Ralph was tethered just right outside the house, otherwise he would have dirtied the wonderfully furnished and decorated room. Xavier had a huge urge to just head over to one of the bookshelves to pick a book on arcane magic to read, but had held himself back, as it was a sorely improper thing to do.

Within a few moments, the woman entered the room, this time laden with a small tray holding a smooth white teapot, four cups, and a pair of small containers with cream and sugar. Skirts swishing, she glided to the center of the room, and set down her burden on a small table there. Aaron approached her, resting a hand on the stained wooden back of one of the couches around the table.
"My name is Varia Saint.... You're likely here to meet my mother, Lisa, yes?" She poured tea in quick measured movements as she spoke.
"That will be difficult, as she passed away six months ago." She straightened, raising a spoon filled with sugar to eye level and making sure that it was perfectly level before leaning over the low table and mixing it into the drinks.
"But, you came here for a reason, I'm sure. I've taken over my Mother's business, so what do you need?" Apparently finished with the tea, she picked up one of the teacups, and settled back into the couch cushions.
The news about Lisa passing away wasn't expected by Aaron, however, that wasn't the real reason why he was here. He hated to be indelicate, but he had his own tragedy brewing. He had to get moving.... How long had he been walking, rarely stopping for long? The trek through the mountains had been brutal, and he still had to find Lilith. She had to have moved on by now, but he didn't think that it would be impossible to find her, given the nature of Lilith's memories. The creature would stand out like a beacon among normal people, even when clothed in a victim's body.
"Ms. Saint, I-" Aaron was interupted almost as soon as he started.
"Wait. Winsett. Aaron Winsett... You're Barek's grandson. I heard that you were quite the promising young mage from my mother. Just call me Varia, please. "
"Right.... Varia, have you heard any news of a village coming under attack in the area?."
"Oh... That. Yes, about a week ago, there was a strange occurrence nearby. Rumors of a dragon and a dark magic user laying waste to a nearby town. It was very destructive, from the looks of the wreckage. Why do you ask?"
Aaron took a moment to consider the news. It fit with what he was expecting....

At first, Saffra wasn't all that interested in what this girl had to say, Saffra was flipping through the pages, checking to see what knowledge she hadn't already known about, and that was a good majority of the book, until she landed on a page about some kind of moss, and seemed interested enough to read it, leaning up against the bookshelf, until her interest peaked.
Closing the book slowly, she turned a bit on her side, and tapped her fingers against the hardwood of the shelves, and frowned at hearing about a dragon. If someone was in dragon form, she would have felt that, wouldn't she? Even using all that power, as the rumor goes? Or was she just too far away...
Saffra glanced over at Xavier, to get a look of this strange man, still not having cosied up to him at all for the short duration they have been together. Something about him just rubbed her wrong, but she just figured it was paranoia.

As the woman from earlier walked into the sitting room and laid a tray of cups on a table in the middle of the sitting room. When both the mage and this woman started conversing, Xavier decided to just sit down in a chair somewhere close to where the two of them were conversing. Xavier decided that since the mage himself had already made himself very comfortable on one of the chairs and the winged woman had already picked up and indulged in one of the books in the sitting room, he would probably not push their host's hospitality by making himself much more comfortable in the room.
The armchair that Xavier had chosen was just a slight distance away from the conversation, Xavier was able to hear the entirety of it. He was shocked by what he ha heard, that the elder apothecary had just passed away recently. Xavier felt a wave of despair wash over him. One that made him feel much more negative and unhappy almost immediately. He had hoped to be able to ask an elder about some things related to the arcane arts yet now he found out that the person he had come here to see had passed away. However, Xavier still remembered the true reason that they were there for, managing to subdue his internal despair slightly with it.
Embroiled in a conflict between the two sides of himself, Xavier missed much of the upcoming conversation between the two experienced mages. Xavier's mind only returned to the conversation when he heard of the attack by the dragon and dark magic user. This had perked Xavier's attention mainly because of the winged woman's sudden return to reality upon hearing the news as well as her suddenly giving Xavier an enquiring, piercing look that shivered Xavier to the bone. Why did the winged woman suddenly take notice of the conversation. It definitely had something to do with the attack. The wings, was the woman one of the dragonkind? It certainly explained the wings to a small extent, as well as her general level of arrogance that she had held while traveling with them.
Thinking back to the conversation, Xavier thought to inquire a little more into the subject of the attack. "The attack, it was done with the dark magic user's dark magic? Or was it mostly the dragon who guided the attack?". This was Xavier trying to find out the magnitude and strength of the arcane arts in comparisons with other stronger beings, such as the dragons.

"Ah, well that's more difficult to say. At least a quarter of the town was laid to waste." The woman said, lifting an eyebrow in interest at the whole ordeal. "Some of the buildings were most definitely destroyed by a dragon, or something very large. There was other damage though, more consistent in nature with the stories of the shaman. For example, the hole left in the town wall. That was too precise to be the work of who or whatever else was there.... The style didn't fit."
Aaron had to admit, hearing about the damage to the town wasn't thrilling, since he'd be chasing down one of those people. Still, he'd rather be aware of the danger than not be aware.
"Whoever that dark mage was, they were no novice.... It's sad. Several of my workers had families there." The blond haired woman leaned back in her chair and crossed her legs as she sipped her tea. Her gaze seemed to wander off to nowhere land for a bit, before she looked around at the three of them.
"The first thing you ask about is a recent battle in the area... Are you hunting fables now, Aaron?"
Aaron found Varia's acute senses for his actions amazing. It was simple enough to explain. His Grandfather must've talked about him over the years, and soon, enough word had passed through the grapevine for Varia to learn about him.... Maybe Barek and Lisa had kept in contact more than he'd thought over the years.
The green-haired mage answered, a bit of uncertainty creeping through.
"Yes. I'm pursuing the dark magic user. If you have any news of her whereabouts, please share it."
"My, my.... You know this dark mage." Varia tapped her lip in thought, glancing around the room. Her gaze lingered for a moment on Saffra, on the book she was holding, and then bounced over to Xavier, who seemed uncomfortable in his chair, as if he was intruding in some way.
"Buck up, Brother Blunette. This is a sitting room. It's what we do here." She smiled a small mischevious smile back at him before continuing. "Tell you what. You stay the evening, eat up, rest up, and all around make use of the house, and I'll send out a few of my laborers to listen for word from travelers in the region. Okay? Okay."
Aaron started to protest that he was in a hurry, but Varia seemed to have anticipated him.
"Where would you go? You don't have any directions, other wise you wouldn't have asked. The trail from the village is a week old, and dead. It won't be any use to you.... Stay here, and rest. Clean up.... That green snake hanging down your back looks like it's shedding it's skin." She laughed a bit as Aaron reached up and touched his hair where it was tied back into a ponytail. It probably did look bad. He probably looked bad, after all this time on the road, and through the mountains. "Let my people handle this part, hm? Elimine knows, Barek's done plenty for me over the years."
She was right. He didn't even have a direction, much less a destination.
"Thank you, Varia. I hope we're not too much trouble for you, coming unexpectedly."
"Oh nooo... Just don't eat anything out of the west garden. Most of it's toxic this time of year. I'll go and see about getting the news. In the meantime, there's guestrooms out the right, and a washroom to the left. I believe you're familiar with the spell needed to heat water, yes Aaron? Alright."
Just as she exited the room, she tossed something back into it, over her shoulder. "Let me know what you think of that book when you're through!"
Aaron Winsett just stood, watching the door she'd left through, Trying to piece her together in his mind after the encounter. She seemed... intelligent. Confident. Brazen.... Perhaps a bit odd. Certainly busy.
He wondered what his companions thought of everything, but remained silent a bit longer.

Saffra barked a small laugh as she was addressed after the whole while. Their talk had not really been all that interesting. Finding a town close by was not an issue for someone such as her, but she did not bother to even contribute. This was Aaron's quest, she let him do as he wanted, and she was more than happy to tag along. Though, staying here didn't feel right to her. With a sigh, she finally bucked up once the woman left the room.
"Do you think staying here is wise? We will only fall behind while others scout ahead for us."
Arching an eyebrow up, she slid the book back where she got it from, done with the thing now, seeing nothing of note left in it. Saffra carefully maneuvered around the obstacles the room had such as the furnishings and various other things, trying not to strike anything with her tucked wings.
"Well, if we are staying here...I may sleep outside, its a beautiful night, and I've always enjoyed the Eturian evenings...it reminds me of better times."

"I'd want a nice comfy bed to sleep in after all this while...", Xavier responded in turn. He had to admit that what the apothecary had said. It would be pointless to start searching for the shaman blindly now. And staying in the mansion of the apothecary had it's advantages. Xavier would be able to compile and seek the apothecary for help on a list of questions on the arcane arts.
Still in the sitting room and still feeling slightly uneasy within the mansion. He was not used to being in a large mansion as this, spending most of his life before in the church that was very small compared to the mansion. The other places he had stayed at were places like the earlier highwaymen's stronghold or at several rest-stops and inns along the way to the apothecary's house.
Standing up, Xavier went over to the bookshelves, took many glances at the books, noting the titles, images and colours on the books. They were not like the books that he had read at his home, the church. The books he had read before were usually plain with very little pictures and decorations on it. These decorations and adornments were usually expensive and in his life at the church, he was unable to read such well decorated and furnished books. There was only once in his life when he had touched such a book with its furnishings. It was when the highwaymen had robbed the book off of a traveling merchant in order to sell the book to a jealous trader.
The highwaymen were of course illiterate and therefore care of the book had fallen to Xavier. Xavier had taken his time and his chance to read the book thoroughly, appreciating the hard work that was put into the images, the brilliant, colourful collages. Xavier browsed through yet another section of the bookshelves and felt a surge of energy passing through him. The energy guided his hand over to one of the books, instilling him to grab it out of the bookshelves. Looking around the room once more, Xavier looked at the cover of the book he had picked out. Its title was: "An Introduction to the Arcane Art of the Elders".
OoC: Here starts the plan to guide Xavier into the path of using dark magics. This marks his descence into the darkness.

Aaron really wasn't in the mood to stop. Only the need for directions really held him back, although... The mage yawned, covering his mouth with the back of his hand and shaking his head a bit... A night on a bed would help him. Part of him rejected the idea of staying here outright, but the rest of him saw the value in staying, and forced him to be patient.
"As she said, I don't have a direction to travel, Saffra, unless you have something." Aaron bit the words out bitterly. The part of him which wanted to move on was very, very upset.
"If no word gets gathered by tomorrow, then I might as well go looking on my own, and we'll leave. For now though.... This is her neighborhood, and she knows it better than I."
At least Xavier seemed pleased by the turn of events.
"She was right about the water though. If either of you wish to wash up, I can make the water hot for longer than conventional heating can manage.... I know I intend to make use of it before the night."

Saffra gave a bit of a frown at Aaron. For a smart man, he wasn't coming off as intelligent, not in her eyes anyways. If the town was 'nearby' sure;y it could have been reached easily...and rumors don't spread without the name of the town being given if it's the scene of these occurrences. He should have pushed harder on questioning. Surely the woman, as bright as she thought herself as, should have atleast asked about which "nearby town" this was. She had spent many centuries in Eturia alone, she knew this country well. she would have known, but she was never asked for help, so she would not give it.
With a sigh, she relented, and kept her frustration with this apothecary a secret, something she is very good at going. Looking off towards where the washrooms were, she guessed it would be a good idea, it's been about a day without a bath, and that was a day too long.
Stretching her arms, she turned that frown upside down, almost fluidly, and took a small bounce in her step as she walked towards the washrooms.
"I'll take you up on that. I'd do it myself, but I don't want to scare anyone if I can help it."
With a laugh, she went to go get her own water from the well, copper tubs were a common thing when she lived here not all that long ago. It felt long ago though...poor man...why did he have to be so stubborn...With a shake of her head, remembering all about that trip with the staff...her eyes went towards where she had placed her bags, with that staff, powerless as it was now, lay within the straps. Those were some happier times, though not so far gone. That was just the beginning of the end for her co-existence it seemed. That wasn't the first time that had happened to her, one of many...but far too many.
She must have been in a daze, because when he thoughts came back to her, she was already filling her tub up with the cold water. Shaking her head, again, she called out, throwing her white robe against a ledge.
"Aaron! Come heat this for me!"

The green-haired sage noticed the dragon woman's frown, and wondered what was going through her head. He was satisfied that Varia was attempting to find travelers with news of where the Arum Lily had gone. He knew the location of where Lilith had been possessed through the memories she'd given him.... How had that even worked, anyway? Unfortunately, the sage lacked the knowledge of the taverns on the road. The inns. The local stop offs for travelers, which were their best chance at finding a direction of where to head.
Then, just like that, she was all smiles, stepping along with a bounce in her step, as if all the world was her dance floor. He laughed along with her comment about avoicing scaring people. even being acquainted with her, he'd probably be worried if he saw her in her dragon form. He'd not been able to see the full measure of her draconic transformation on the sea. Her sudden switch in temperament interested him. How and why it happened.... Was she just happy to be having a bath? She never seemed to be travelstained, like he was.... Was it just a trait that dragons possessed?
Aaron's thoughts wandered through the various places in his mind, before his eyes finally caught on the book Xavier had picked out. Stepping alongside the younger man, Aaron touched him lightly on the shoulder, for attention.
"Dark magic... be careful, if you're interested by that stuff, Xavier. Even those trained in its use never escape the dangers involved with it." He paused for a moment, waiting for the troubador's response. He could hear Saffra calling up the hall for him. The sage took a few steps backwards, away from the book that Xavier was holding.
"Just remember why we're in Etruria to start with...."
Aaron turned and headed out the door, his tattered cloak swishing against his boots as he headed up the hall to the wash rooms. Dark magic.... It was like playing with fire... except playing with fire was easy and fun. Hopefully, Xavier knew what he was doing. this sory of magic wasn't something you trifled with.
It didn't take him long to arrive, and he entered. He chuckled a bit as he entered. A wash room... wasn't the sort of place he'd expected to share with a dragoness. He gave her a quick glance as he entered, and then looked down at the tub of water.
He touched the tome in the bag hanging from his shoulder, and began working with his Fire tome. Using it's magic, he excited the particles in the water. It remained even and calm for a few seconds as he worked, until it started giving off steam.
