Aleth wondered did she stink all that bad? It was too cold for her body to sweat all that much; she barely even exercised lately. Well if her employer think she needed it, she'll go along for the sake of having a job. A nice hot bath doesn't sound all that bad either. Than that commotion started at the corner of the room. Gambling, how she loathed it. It was a waste of time and mo-. Wait an idea popped to her head. She was good at gambling and she could use a few change coins to buy some how drinks while traveling. She glanced over and saw that Marle wanted to play in some fashion at least. For the money or just to have fun, she couldn't be sure.
"Come on, it looks fun and I'm sure there is time to spare," she remarked, pulling her employer to the whole mess.
"You guys could spare some room and go easy on the newbies here will you?" she asked in an innocent tone. She knew how to play and how to win. Unless they did it for the living she had an edge. Of course the man couldn't turn down the ladies. When the cards are delt, she was going to get some money indeed...

Marle was a bit shocked as she was just suddenly grabbed and pulled out of her seat. Doing her best, she reached back for her armor which had it's shield and weapons still on it, and was dragged over to the table, making small protests just as she was pulled initially.
"W-Wait!"
It was little good though, as Marle was taken over to the table where her subordinate men were. When Aleth spoke, the mercenary had grabbed their attention well, eyes roaming, all of them, but then they saw Marle, and seemed a little bit to tense up. She felt like a shy girl being put forward as a prospective match for a boy, or something, and she held her chestplate and shoulders in her left hand tightly, not wanting to be a bother while the men had their fun.
They knew that Marle was not a hardass commander, but these were veteran soldiers, and they had other commanders who may not have liked sharing company with the likes of them. The men turned back and talked among themselves, before making room for the two.
"Yeah, sure why not." said one.
"No promises!" another one said in response to taking it easy on newbies.
Marle grabbed two seats from a nearby table, resting her armor and weapons against the wall there, as she pushed a seat for Aleth and herself. Marle's face seemed to brighten a little bit as she sat down. Cards were handed out, dealt, rather. Marle took her purse, and brought it up on the table and that started a bit of a chuckle.
"May want to put that back Captain, I'd feel bad about stealing your money!"
A bit of laughter followed that, even with Marle as she put her elbows up on the table, and took her cards in hand.
"Worry about your own pockets, because if I have my way with luck, I'll see them empty!"

Kessel had worked his way up to his third drink by the time the card game commotion started up. Originally, all the unknown soldiers had made him nervous, but seeing the way they interacted with each other calmed him somewhat. The buzz he had going probably helped a bit too.
After being on his own with his wyvern for a while, he was tempted to join the game, maybe strike up a conversation, but held back. Starved for human interaction though he was, he wasn't sure how they'd react to a stranger asking to join their game.
It was then an idea hit him. He'd prime the group, maybe make them a little more accepting. Waving over the bartender, he handed him some extra coin. "Give them a free round on me, eh?" he said, indicating the card playing group. "And my compliments to the ladies."

OOC: Aaahh, my joining into this topic feels so sudden xP
Caelica entered the town of Emmeline's Crossing. It was fairly far from her city of Carrhae, so her guild had lent her a horse. She wobbled on the saddle, still having not gotten used to riding on a horse. Caelica had no idea where to find her client, which was the reason why she was here. Hesitant to ask any of the the many soldiers in the city, she continued on in the streets until she crossed paths with a nice looking female mercenary. "Um, excuse me?" Caelica called out to the mercenary as she dismounted her horse.
"Yes?" The mercenary turned to face her.
Caelica took out a piece of paper and began reading off of it. "Have you seen a woman named Marle? If it helps, she's a knight or something like that."
"I'm afraid not. Sorry." The woman apologized with a weak smile.
"Well that's alright." Caelica sighed as the mercenary began to walk away. "As always, the guild makes my mission harder by forgetting to supply me with something..." Often times, it was a means of transportation or actual supplies. But the one time they gave her a horse, they forgot to give her useful information.
Caelica continued to walk beside her horse, hoping she would find any woman in knight's armor. 30 minutes had gone by until she passed an inn that looked fairly active. She tied her horse down outside, then left the cold snow for the warm confines of the inn. She thought that she would continue looking for her client after filling herself up with some food. She headed directly for the bar, not noticing the man at the desk who looked up at her.
Caelica took a seat in a relatively quiet corner, then her eyebrows raised as she saw her--a woman sitting next to a set of knight's armor. The woman was in the middle of a game of cards however, and since Caelica couldn't confirm it was her client, Marle, she decided to wait.
A man walked up to her, apparently an employee of the inn. "What can I get for ye?" He asked.
"Just something to eat..." Caelica answered weakly. "And some ale..." She added for good measure--she had never been to many bars.

Aleth glanced down on her hand. Nothing someone could do to control their luck. When someone gets a bad hand, it is just a bad hand, no philosophy required. The important thing to do is know when to hide it with a sincere smile. She knew to look out for expressions and the like. Card games are as much a social game than anything, glancing at the other's faces and hand gestures. She wasn't an expert though, so she didn't depend on it much. What did matter was knowing how to play.
"Tch, well I think I got a good hand," she said, knowing all too well that she was lying. Throwing away quick game isn't always a bad thing especially joining in for the first time. It didn't matter, she remained calm and collected. To her it was just a simple game she would soon profit a bit on. After her initial lost, she won't go easy no matter what! With a slight tap tap, she indicated that this game wasn't over just yet...

Marle flipped up her cards in her hand, and gave a good look at them. It was a decent draw, could have been better. She started playing with her cards, organizing them into the best possible way, but she noticed she had a pair right away, it was a low pair though, easily beatable by someone else who had one. Marle rose her green eyes, though only one could see everything clearly, watching the expressions of everyone.
With a grunt, she dug into her purse and brought out two coins.
"Raising two."
The one on her left also, put in two, as did the next three, and that went back to Aleth, who was boasting her cards, she wondered if that would carry through. Though before Aleth could call, two serving girls came over with a round of ale, setting the mugs down. The men were delighted, not sure what they ddi to receive such patronage. One of the girls came over to Marle, and leaned between her and Aleth.
"That fellow over there sends his well wishes, as well as the drinks."
She giggled and walked back towards the counter. Marle turned her head and smirked at the fellow, giving a nod of welcome to him, but also motioning him over with an obvious wave of her hand.
"A fellow well to pay for my friends and I deserves some company, so what do you say, friend, care to place some bets?"
A smile painted Marle's face, something like this, something where she wasn't worried about work, allowed her to open up and have fun. She hadn't had any fun in months, maybe even a year, even when she was a recruit. Her eyes then wandered to the girl coming inside, and eyed the sword on her hip. Immediately pegging the girl as a mercenary. This was good news. After this round, she'd have to go and talk to her, if she was still around then.

Slightly surprised that they were being so friendly, Kessel nonetheless decided to take her up on her offer. He pulled up a chair in between the woman who had called him over and the soldier next to her. Giving her a smile, Kessel said, "Don't mind if I do. It's been too long since I've had a good game of cards."
Flush with his success at socializing - and the alcohol - he continued to talk. "In fact, it's been a while since I've had any decent conversation other than with Rhia." He took a drink from his mug, waiting to be dealt in on the next hand. "So, what brings such pretty women out to the cold reaches of Ilia?"

OoC: Super sorry for the wait guys, I've had little free time and most of that my dad wanted me to watch Shark Week with him in the time I had. This is a short post, I don't have much time but I can be more consistent like tommorow even.
Ic: Selibas fought the alchohal from taking total control of his body, he tried to stay almost sensible even though he was past that by far. These people were Illian, maybe it wasn't the best choice to ally himself with them, Cinderfelt was allied with these frostblades afterall. Selibas decided work was work and people were people. "Is there any way you could take me to the person who could speak for the soldiers? Sorry I knoowww you jusst sat down."

Garnet eyed the kid from across the table for a moment. He really didn't look that old. Couldn't be more than Mid-teens. But he carried those weapons. He carried the weapons, and he was prepared to use them, as demonstrated by this drawing the earlier. Perhaps a bit too ready.
"Well, kid, you're still pretty drunk. I'll take you to the right place, but you'd be better off sobering up more first. It's just the inn across the street." Garnet stood, and refastened his blade across his back, befor kicking his chair back to its spot by the table.
"Ask for Marle. You may even be in luck, though you should avoid making a bad show for the Captain." Garnet smirked a bit. He wondered just what type of person Marle was. So far, he hadn't had much chance to tell.
The swordsman waved to the barkeep as he exited the tavern, heading to the inn, and its included tavern. Heh... He was barhopping. On entering the inn, he couldn't help but noticing that it was getting... somewhat crowded around a certain table. There was Marle. Naturally. Playing at cards though?... Good for her. Being able to hang out with your troops was ok in his book. He just... didn't have the best memories around cards, himself.
"Hahah! Glad to see you come out of your shell, Marle." Garnet's voice carried across the tavern as he approached the table, stopping a few feet away and inspecting the lot. He saw some of the soldiers grin at his double meaning pun. He hadn't used to speak in puns, had he?
"Quite the crowd it seems. What have we got here?" The soldiers he'd gotten a bit familiar with. Marle he knew. There was a white haired girl, and an orange haired man at the table which he didn't recognize though.

Aleth seemed to pause, and study the table. Marle looked at the mercenary as Kessel sat down and took a place beside her. Marle had shifted over as did a few other soldiers, opening up room for the man. As Kessel was seated, Aleth rose the stakes a bit, and gave a call out.
"Four gold!"
The white haired Mercenary wore a smirk. As Marle could tell, the girl felt, or rather, looked extremely confident in her hand. Marle fingered at her cards for a moment, choosing no to address Kessel at the moment, and instead called her, putting another four coins onto the table, before the round continued. two of the men threw down their cards, clearly they had nothing that warranted a raise.
"Duty, really. Can't really go into details, but my group and I have business this far north. What about you, stranger. I know many people who live here, but you're not one of them. Why so far north to almost the middle of nowhere?"
Marle smirked at the orange haired man, and before she knew it, everything was back into Aleth's play. The Mercenary glanced about her cards in her hand, and put the cards down tapping on the table, to signal she stayed.
Marle did as well, as did everyone else. Aleth tossed away two cards, and was dealt another two back to her. Marle as well, did the same, throwing two cards away. This went almost the same well around the rest of the table, and then the bidding started once again. Marle looked at her new cards, and really, the new cards did little for her. She called right off the bat, as did the rest, but Aleth, again, raised the pot with another two gold, and that was just too rich for Marle.
"I fold."
And so too, did the rest at the table, leaving Aleth to flip her worthless cards over. Marle could only grumble at this. She would have won with that low pair, but she fell for Aleth's bluff. Sighing as she tossed the cards back at the dealer, and as Aleth raked her new gold into her purse.
Just then, the door opened and let in a cold breeze that made Marle give a shiver, and looked over to see Garnet with a short green haired boy in tow. He called out to her, making her wince as he used her name. Turning in her seat, she frowned at Garnet, rubbing the back of her neck. That pun was horrible, too. Her armor was hardly a shell!
"Just a bit of cards."
She spoke at a level tone, and her green eyes looked to Caelica, a girl who had a sword at her hip, not recognized to her at all, perhaps she was just another mercenary looking for work. That would be in her favor, as well. Smiling at Kessel, she took a rise from her chair, and stood just behind it, crossing her arms.
"And who's this?"
Marle nodded at Selibas, but the boy looked so young, maturing, but young all the same.

"I think I'll quit, don't want to push my luck too far," Aleth said looking around the place. There seemed to be more and more people arriving all ready. Surely one of them had to better than her and she needed this money for drinks later on. Glancing around she notices quite a bit of swordsman. Hopefully she will get a chance to talk to all of them and at least know who has her back. There seemed to be mostly swordsmen... She noted them as future training partners, hopefully.

Caelica began to wolf down her food as she saw Marle rise up from her seat. She ate fast, but tried to keep it as ladylike as one could when eating at that speed. Soon she too was out of her seat, taking a sip of the ale she had ordered, then sliding the mug back onto the table with a look of disgust. It wasn't that she wasn't used to the taste of alcohol--rather, it was that the ale itself wasn't very good.
She ran over to Marle, not wanting to wait for the others who had just arrived to start and finish any conversations before she got a word in.
She swallowed the last of the food in her mouth. "You're Marle right? Marle Daviau? Uh..." Caelica fumbled for her mission papers, finding it torn up into little pieces. She gave a weak grin and held up the torn papers in her hands. "Oh well, my guild told me you were looking for mercenaries to join you for something?"

Kessel was about to respond to Marle, but it seemed everyone was trying to get her attention all of the sudden. 'Hmm,' he thought, 'seems like she's in charge of all the soldiers. And they're currently looking to hire...'
Once the green haired girl finished speaking, he spoke up. "Well, it seems like you're hiring at the moment. I'm pretty handy with a lance...and I'm kinda hard up on funds..." He mumbled the last bit to himself. Kessel tossed back the rest of his drink and said, "So, any chance you'd take me on?"

Marle's answer of "just a bit of cards" wasn't the full answer of what the swordsman was looking for. He'd also meant these others around. He'd gotten himself somewhat familiar with most of the bunch that Marle had traveling under her command, but that orange haired man stood out. So did the white haired girl. Hmm... it seemed to the red-headed swordsman that, with all the fighters about, Marle should have just made her way here to recruit people.
Huh. The white-haired girl was a swordswoman too, judging from the blade hanging at her side.
"Oh... just a young swordsman looking for a job. Name's Selibas." Garnet jerked his thumb back over his shoulder, indicating the smaller green-haired figure there, when they were joined by another sword. This one a young girl. Garnet couldn't help but noticing that she as well, had green hair.
"Well Marle, I should leave you to your business. I think we owe each other some drinks for later though. Find me when you get a bit of free time. There's something I'd like to discuss with you." Garnet gave a mock salute, and stepped out of the way of the oncoming hoard of sell swords.
"You, you're the only one not clambering for a job here," Garnet said to the white-haired girl nearby, grinning a bit at how the area was suddenly charged with mercs looking for a job. It was a new experience for Garnet.
"Or did you get hired already?" He asked it casually, not really expecting an answer one way or another. Just making conversation.... When was the last time he'd been this relaxed? He really couldn't say.

Aleth moved her body to get a better view of the whole conversation. It seemed that there will be quite the number of people joining them on Marle's little expedition. It seemed to be more than just a simple hunt as far as she could tell. So much fire power only means that whatever they are up against was something serious. All them at least seemed to know how to fight and hold out their own... It was great if they did then all she had to do was look out for herself but unfortunately her own nature would make her more concerned about others.
The red headed man approached her after notifying Marle about something. Aleth wasn't too concerned about the whole situation, all she knew was there are going to be more people in the group.
"Yeah, I just recently got picked up off the streets," Aleth motioned her hand outdoors. Well it seemed that the others needed to be hired first and it will most likely take some time for the woman to sort it out, so it was a good time to chat with others.
"I'll be sure not to be a freeloader, so what about you?" she asked, not being to descriptive with her question. It was up to the guy how much he wanted to talk about himself, she didn't mind much though.
