Marle's eye caught the girls, and gave a playful grin as she set off towards the Smiths, which was really just on the other side of the square, and down the road a bit. She could already hear the ringing of the hammer on the anvil, as Geoffry was hard at work. Marle's armor rattled as she walked, with a combination of plate and chainmail under it, she was heavily armored, but this armor was loose, not proper to her size, and not made specifically for her, unlike what she had thought when she was getting measured.
Turning to Caelica once more, upon hearing her question, she gave a small nod.
"Yeah, I asked the man to repair my steel lance. Before we arrived here, we faced a number of dead and demon dogs. and they did quite the number on me and my weapon."
Marle sighed, and she looked down at her foot. It still hurt from the bite, those things were nasty. Closing in, she could see the man at the smith clearly, broad shouldered and tall. Some called him a Man's an, since he stood head and shoulders above the rest, and that he was generally a good guy, and honest. Marle knew of his kindness when she lived and worked here under his tutelage, though she wasn't much for making armor, she could do simple swords and repairs
The man saw them coming, and put his hammer down, and left what he was doing, to come stand by the doorway.
"Back for your lance, huh? Its over there."
The man indicated with a big finger to the wall. It was close to the doorway, and she gave a pleasant, happy grin, and picked it up relatively quick, and began to hand the man some coin from her purse once the lance was back in the sleeve on her back. Juggling the coin in his hand, he seemed a bit amused, as Marle nodded, and began to walk off, but was stopped by a hand on her shoulder.
"Come on, girl, you're not going to say hello, and stay and chat with an old friend, after all this time?"
Well, she was found out. Marle gave a small sigh, but also mixed with some relief. She extended a hand, and looked way up at the tall man, shaking his hand as it came into view.
"Hello Geoffry...nice to see you again."
Motioning towards Calica, Geoffry put his hand out in same, ready to shake her hand as well.
"And this is Caelica, a mercenary I recently hired."

"Demon dogs? Yeah, those things sure can ruin someone's day." Caelica was guessing, as she had never run into a pack of demon dogs before.
Marle went in the smithy first to grab her lance, and Caelica just stood outside in the snow, intimidated by the man standing in the doorway. He was a good deal taller than Marle, who in turn dwarfed Caelica. So she decided to wait outside, then started the walk back to the inn once she saw Marle was done. After barely walking five feet, Caelica stopped, only hearing the sound of the snow crunching under one pair of feet.
She looked back to see the smith, smiling and talking with Marle. Caelica neared them, and picked up the pace when Marle motioned toward her. The smith held up his hand and she took it--he had a very firm grip. She took her hand back, the feeling of intimidation gone as Marle introduced her.
"Hi there, I'm Caelica... So, you know the boss?"

The man barked a laugh as he put his hands on his hips, he was truly amused by the question, as he put his hands on his hips. Behind the man, she could see a boy working the forge, his apprentice, a good deal younger than herself...that must be his son. Geoffry soon nodded, as looked back into the forge as well.
"Yep. This girl here came to ask me for aid in toughening her up before she was sent off to Arphen to become a recruit. Now look at her, leading men already in just a few years."
Marle was clapped on the shoulder. Generally, she was sturdy on her feet, but that strong hand almost doubled her over and lose her footing, before she found herself again. Grunting softly in a bit of pain from the unexpected blow, Marle just gave a nod at Caelica, looking through her bangs.
"Yeah, he took me on awhile back to work on his forge, as did the mill down the road there...he's like extended family, treated me enough like one. Parents weren't too pleased about me doing that though. I was never meant to join the army, you see."
Marle gave a playful smile as she looked down the road at a larger than normal house, it was practically a manner. It wasn't in view, but she could see the top of the house well enough, a large broad roof that reached above others.
"Father's a councilman here, my name carries a bit of weight in this town, but not really anywhere else."
Geoffry kind of nodded with a grunt, and then opened his eyes, running back to the forge.
"Hold here girl, I've got something for you!"
Marle blinked off after the man, and then shrugged to Caelica, not really understanding.

"She's leading women too, good sir." Caelica said, shrugging.
Her eyes shot to Marle when she heard a loud clap--next thing she knew, Marle was stopping herself from falling. She gave a little snicker at the scene, then quickly stood up straight--hands at her sides--as Marle looked up at her. She had no idea if the boss was glaring at her since her bangs were covering her eyes.
"Oh wow, I see. That's a pretty cool background you have there, commander." A blast of air threw her hair up, and the smith ran by her. Caelica kept turning her head from Marle, then to where she saw the smith run. She returned Marle's confused look, scratching the back of her head.
"Well well, I wonder what he was in such a hurry to get. Must be something really cool."

Marle turned again to Caelica and gave a small shrug of her shoulders. She didn't have a clue either. The two girls were left outside for some time, every now and then, they would hear the man cursing about how he stubbed his toe, or ran into something, or knocked something over. Eventually, he boy was called over, and walked out with a ton of steel plated armor over his shoulders, and in his arms. The boy too, came out with a sword belt, and a blade within it.
At first, Marle was a bit confused, and didn't know what to think of it, or wonder who's it was. The large man seemed tired, the armor must have weighed a ton, and some of it didn't even look like it belonged as armor...just extra plates, or something.
Putting it down on a table out front, Marle looked at Caelica once more, and moved forward into the smith, to see what this was all about. As Marle and Caelica grew closer, Geoffry brimmed with pride.
"When you left to say you were going off to become a knight, well, I thought as a proper prize on your succession, I took it onto myself to make you a suit of armor that would be proper for a woman like you."
The man nodded, and breathed a soft sigh as his strong body seemed less strained now that the load was off his hands. Marle frowned at first, but pushed inside the forge, and picked up a glove, looking over the intricate manner of the plate. The glove alone was more heavy than her own, indicating the density of the metal. It was thick, and much fuller than her own. The rest of the armor appeared that way too.
"This is...gracious...Geoffry...but I can't take it."
With a frown, the man picked up the heavy shield, and thrusted it at her, forcing it into her arms. "Listen. I did this to give to you as a gift. I will not take no as an answer. Knowing that something I made would some day possibly save your life is all I want to know. Now take it.."
Marle was almost...giddy...this armor looked more to her size, less bulky, but she dreaded the weight difference. She had just gotten used to this armor, and now she would be under even heavier armor still. Her face remained smooth, despite how she felt on the inside. Looking up, she gave a confirmation nod.
"Alright, thank you."
Looking around, she remembered she didn't have an army with her to take it, so she looked back inside at a room in the back.
"Mind if I change into it now? I'll leave my armor here for you to deal with...either sell it...or whatnot, if you want."
With a grunt and a nod, Marle began to step out of her armor, it was a process, but with the man helping her, it was quick. Looking to Caelica, she motioned for her to stay.
"I'll be back in a sec, just going to get changed."
And with that, Marle went into the room, where the large smith and his apprentice had placed the armor out neatly, for her to change into.

Caelica sighed, and couldn't help but give a small smile at the manly smith's kindness.
"Geez, you're such a big softie." Caelica teased Geoffry. Marle walked in to change into her new armor, and Caelica followed after a few minutes of awkward silence between her and the smith. Not knowing how hard it was to change into a new set of armor, Caelica quickly became bored, and started looking around the smithy. An intricate looking shield and sword was hanging on the wall. She curiously looked at it, then picked up the sword to get a feel for it. Most smithies let one do so.
But the shield fell on the stone floor with a loud clang when Caelica grabbed the sword, and she stood, stunned for a second. She quickly returned the sword and shield back to it's original position on the wall, examining it, hoping that the impact had not left marks that would draw the smith's attention. She ran over to where Marle was changing, and gave two soft knocks on the door.
Anxious, she quickly said, "Hey Marle...Are you almost done in there?"

An apple.... She was having an apple for breakfast.... What were these Illians made of, to get by on such small rations!? He slowed his eating of his own breakfast a bit on hearing that they had an hour. Everything of his was ready to go. Except his breakfast, as it turned out, and he had no intention of bringing that with him.
Finishing up, he stood with with a quick glance down to the white-haired girl he was sitting across from.
"Well, I think I'm gonna head out and wait around with the army. Or maybe run to the smith's real quick."
He started to amble off, heading to the door, and the outside. "Probably ought to skip the smith for now...." He grumbled to himself as he went. He didn't have all that much extra cash on him. The Captain could pay for his meal this time.

Aleth looked around the place considering what to do. She didn't want to be in the way of Marle or Garnet. She would best to go hang around and meet the others. She strode out of the tavern and started to go towards where the army was packing. She decided it was better off helping everyone pack. The area is full of scuttling fighters looking to get ready as soon as possible. Right after she had got in, she was already bossed around to help others. Well it didn't bother her, she still had energy to spare for the day.

The smith came back alone out of the vacant room to look at Caelica, hearing the loud crash of things outside. He crossed his arms as she seemed to get things settled. He had not however seen her pick up the shield, merely seeing the aftermath, and studying the tight space that was the smith to see if anything was damaged.
"Careful girl, one can get hurt easily in a forge."
He spoke in a rough tone, and went back to hammer on a horse shoe he had been working on previously, but the metal had cooled far too much, and needed to reheat it. Inside the room, however, Marle and the apprentice were busy getting her old armor off, and the new armor on, since it was a two person job. The armor as snug, and fitting, but heavy. Though the armor was sort of more...slimming than the bulky knights armor, it was much much heavier, since it was made out of denser metal. This would take some getting used to.
After getting her boots and leggings on, next was the leggings and the skirt armor, then the armor for her arms and wrists, and finally her chest and shoulder plate. All in all, she thought the armored weighed well more than she did herself. Grunting, she stretched her arms out, and tried to flex. Sadly, the armor was limiting, but no more than the knights armor before, but since it was less bulky, it did offer some extra room, but not enough to notice.
The boy handed her the helmet, and gave it a look over. It was simple, nothing ornate, but a bit stylish as well, pointed at the tip that acted as a brim, but it was full face coverage and reached back behind her head, with frills along the side, inspired by the look of a dragon, but looking nothing like it, she thought. Opening it up at the neck, she allowed it to collapse, and interlock around it. It wasn't too tight, but not too comfortable until she got the fabric of her collar up so that the fabric and the metal met, and wasn't pushing directly onto her neck.
Fixing on her plated gloves, she nodded to the boy, and took off the helmet, tugging it under her armored arm. Slowly, they exited the room well after Caelica had protested, clearly she had not heard. It took quite a few minutes to get it all on afterall, and it was tough because she wasn't used to it. Exiting, Marle walked slowly, precariously, unsure if she could keep balance without a bit of practice, but she made it look effortlessly, though it was tough. Grunting a bit, she rolled her shoulders, testing the kinks of chainmail under the plate for her mobility.
"What are these extra plates that were left in the room?"
Marle asked once she got out, the boy carrying the heavy plates behind her as Geoffry gave a warm smile and went over, helping his son with the load.
"Ah, these...these would be for when you need the most out of your armor...These were tricky things...had to get aid from a seige engineer with making these. I made these to add onto your armor just when you need that extra protection...they attach onto various areas of the armor in way of guiding grooves in your armor."
He made note on her shoulder, rubbing his finger on odd little grooves in her armor.
"And they clasp on"
He turned over one of the shoulder players, and showed the metal latch on the back of it where it would connect under the original plate, though not flush, since the shoulder plate attachments were bulkier than the actual, making it look natural. It was the same way everywhere it would connect. Marle felt her shoulder slump at the added weight, and she frowned. It would be a great defense type armor, but not really much for attack...though she could add only a bit of the armor if she wanted to.
"Well...this is...quite interesting...thank you."
Geoffry just grinned, and nodded his head back to her. Marle went to the opening of the forge, and foxed her new sword belt around her waist, and picked up the new large shield, and slides it onto her back, as well with the fixture she keeps her lances in. She looked quite daunting, she thought...and it was likely she wouldn't need the shield, unless in direst circumstances, but she kept it just incase
"We really must be going though, thank you Geoffry, I'll try to drop back in on the way back home when I'm done."
"I understand lass, go do what you need to do, and keep safe."
Motioning for Caelica to follow, she waved back at the smith, and went to the inn, where soldiers were gathered. Looking to the green haired girl, she gave a tired grunt already.
"This is going to take some getting used to..."

Garnet surveyed the field. Another term for standing around and waiting. He had nothing to do. He could have window-shopped at the smith's he supposed, but time was up for that.
He noticed a set of figures coming towards them, over time. One was Caelica. That meant the armored titan coming their way was Marle? He hurried towards them, an easy, long, ground eating stride carrying him.
"Well, that's just fit for a picture, Marle." He was holding his hands out in front of him, as if framing her.
"The beautiful Knight Captain of Illia, off to slay hellhounds, and save her people from evildoers." His tone and expression was flippant, but also carried sincerity, and confidence in this young officer hidden under the folds of his. He turned down to the boy carrying... yet more plates of the armor.
"Here, Lad. I can take those from here." And, without waiting, Garnet reached down, and scooped them right up out of the kid's grip. He did pick them up, but there was a moment where he nearly dropped them due to the unexpected weight. These things were a fair bit heavier than they looked. If her armor was constructed similarly, then she must feel like a walking fortress right now.
"Anyways, I like the new suit. What's it feel like?" He grinned, figuring he already knew the answer.

Selibas yawned as the others went about their business. It wasn't as if he wouldn't see the big army unit leaving this town. He sat on the ground and got out his whet stone, he had neglected Zulfiqar's edges lately. After sharpening it a significant amount, he realized the sword was nearly at its end. The old leather hilted sword meant allot to him. Even if he felt the mark of Ostia on its hilt each time he touched it. He resheated it wondering what would happen to his sword he'd had since before he could walk upright with it. He smiled, however, at the thought that that had been only a year ago.
He saw Marle and Garnet walking toward a general (wink wink) direction, so he picked himself up, feeling his head beat like a bell. He walked toward the spot they were headed to. Once Garnet had asked a question he felt obliged to make himself known. So he asked/said, "Mam, Sir, mam, I I I'm s-sorry for my interruption, but I think now would be a go-go-go-good time to prove myself?"

Caelica listened to Garnet's description of Marle, not being able to help but smile at how he said it.
"Quite the poet, aren't we, Garnet?" She teased, putting her hand on her chin. She began to pull on an imaginary beard--something she saw her guildmaster do often. The picture of Marle surrounded by vicious demon dogs was painted and started evolving in her mind. But then, Caelica suddenly let out a sigh.
"And following the heroic and beautiful knight is her ragtag band of...brave mercenaries." She stuck her tongue out and started to walk away. "Well, I'll just leave you two to talk then."
Navigating her way through a group of unfamiliar faces--for now at least--Caelica spotted Aleth. Well, she was unfamiliar with the mercenary too, but at least she knew her name.
"Hey, Aleth!" Caelica called out, running towards the white haired mercenary.

Aleth had worked up a sweat with helping the other soldiers pack. It was nice to get her muscles warmed up in the morning. She didn't mind the extra work seeing as she was getting free food and lodging.
She was still carrying someone's pack when she was addressed by someone else. She looked over at the source of the call. It was the other mercenary, Caelica that joined the night before.
"Oh hello there," she replied, putting down the bag. Now what was she up to?

At first, Marle was unsure whether Garnet was poking fun. AFter staring at him while he was framing her up in a picture, she just grinned, and moved her heavy arm to rest on her sword's hilt. For a one handed sword, the blade was rather long, not nearly as much as a long sword, but very close, with a one and a half hand hilt. The pommel felt...right in her hand, and she understood how Aleth could walk around like this.
"I'd honestly rather have nothing to do with those wolves ever again, but I doubt fate will let me escape them because of something I'd want."
Marle gave a grin, watching as the boy handed over the plates, and noticed Garnet's stooping. The boy had had a fair bit of issue bringing them along, but she was amused by the grown man almost buckling from the added weight. Musing to herself, she still walked with some difficulty, but she was just beginning to carry herself right to reduce the added strain.
"Thank you, but I feel like I'm carrying the world on my body, it's bloody heavy."
She laughed, and looked to Selibas who was still waiting. Looking to the sky, Marle shook her head, and saw that everyone was here now. Resting a heavy hand on his shoulder, she gave a weird little smirk.
"We'll have to test you in actual combat. I used up too much time with my own business."
The pack mules and horses were strapped up, and the men were looking at her, some at the armor, some just frowning. She wouldn't be holding them back, she hoped.
Smirking at Marle, she just gave a laugh at the added picture to the painting of grander things. Who knows...maybe they would paint something of this day in history. Rubbing her head, she felt the cold metal on her forehead.
"Alright everyone, we'll be going now, get your things, and we'll be off We've got ground to make."

Caelica ran over to Aleth, seeing that the mercenary had acknowledged her when she put down the bag she was carrying. The chatter of the soldiers and the sound of moving supplies that was going through the air dissipated, although Caelica seemingly did not notice. She made eye contact with Aleth for a second, then turned her head to where the others had focused their attention to.
Marle seemed to had just said something, although Caelica did not hear what she had said. What Marle had said however became apparent when all the soldiers around her began to move.
"Oh well great, looks like the boss wants us to get moving." Caelica said, putting a hand behind her head as she turned to Aleth. "I guess we'll just have to do what I had in mind some other time."
