The further south Ralph traveled, the more familiar the smells and sounds became. He eventually came to a point where he no longer needed Caecus for directions. The dirt paths and forests eventually turned to farms, then villages, finally coming to Pherae.
The unique sounds of the castle town reminded Ralph of what he had left behind just a few weeks ago, hoping he would be able to accomplish something.
Eventually his feet took him to the most known place in his memory. Bill's Bakery, a place where the sweet smell of pastries baking lulls you into a false sense of security against the huge man owning the place. Many a bandit scouring the town for easy robbing spots had been literally thrown to the streets by Bill.
Ralph desperately hoped that his unannounced return wouldn't cause the same to happen to him.

"Ralph! What are you doing here?" A voice came from behind. The gruff, manly voice obviously belonged to Bill. "I thought you were gonna be adventuring longer than a week."
Ralph felt a STRONG hand grasp his shoulder."H-hello Bill. Yes, it didn't work out as I had hoped. Here, I've got a donation from some bandit I met on the way back." He handed the sack of gold to Bill, who took it and placed it on his own belt. "I guess it's back to the kitchen for me?"
"Not quite, friend. I'm gonna put you on delivery. I hadn't put you on it before, cause I wasn't sure if you could handle it with your blindness, but since you were so eager to adventure, you'll be fine."
At least it seemed that Bill wasn't angry. Ralph breathed a sigh of relief and walked into the bakery.
--------------------------------------------------------------
After Ralph returned into the bakery, Bill walked around back. A Sacean man sat upon a horse at the back. "Yep, he came back. Looks like your brother didn't expect this to happen. Here," Bill said, handing the man the sack of gold, "For your brother, of course. Make sure you keep practicing the flute, all right?"
Dirk nodded, and smiled, taking the bag of gold. He galloped away on his steed Kabold, back to Sacae.

Soon enough, Ralph was back into the normal swing of working.
At first, Bill just had Ralph delivering small packages of pastries around Pherae. Every day Bill would send Ralph a little further away than the last.
There was a limit of course. Bill's bakery was popular, but mostly unknown outside of Pherae.
With Ralph returned to the rhythm of working, the awful dreams of Bern were all forgotten about.

Jya scuffled her way out of the armor shop with her brand new clothing. She felt it imperative for her own sake to change her old gear to match her new needs. She tugged at her leather vambraces and made sure her gloves were neatly over the top. Then she checked to make sure her new blades were in place. The blacksmith was kind enough to repair her weapon and sell her quite an interesting blade. The man had called it Quadkiller and said it would be quite useful for her later one but for now she would use her familiar slim sword.
She whistled a tune as she moved on taking out a piece of paper from her pockets. It was quite an interesting request but something she needed to get used to. A widow has requested her service to find a certain man in the city. All she could tell from the description was the fact he had blonde hair, approximate height and blue eyes. It also said one would know it when they saw it but the whole thing was still far too vague! At least it was a resident so she could cancel out all the travelers. She also felt somewhat justified enough to be going after this guy, he had apparently made the poor woman a widow. Killing just another townsman still made her wring a bit though. It was her first assignment as a freelancing murder for hire or rather in a fancy way known as an assassin. She could always just not do it seeing as the woman didn't even pay any in advance.
While focusing on the small piece of paper she walked through the crowd with her peripheral vision. It works well and she learned the skill earlier in her life. It was embarrassing bumping into people although a good source of pickpocketing change. Before she knew where her own legs took her she found herself in front of a bakery. Checking in on her supplies she noted that it seemed fair enough to treat herself to some bread but hopefully they could have some taste in there. Her hands folded the paper rather sloppily and fitted it back into her pocket before pushing open the door.

When the doors to the bakery opened, the big man himself, Bill, chimed out. "Be with you in a second, little lady. Gotta make sure these pies don't burn." Taking caution with his ultra-manly pink mitts, Bill retrieved the pies just in time.
He set them on a window in the back to cool while he returned to the front. "This is the best bakery in all of Lycia, little lady. What'll you have?"
There was an assorted display of various pastries around Bill, behind his counter.
About that time, Ralph returned from another delivery. He opened the door to the sweet aroma that always filled the room. "I'm back, Bill. I'm going on break." he said. The big man grunted in response, tossing a small loaf to Ralph, who caught it. They had done this enough times that Ralph was no longer pegged in the head by flying bread.
Ralph sat at one of the tables, nibbling on his bread.

Jya looked about, catching the scent of freshly baked bread, it helped that she slid down the cover for her mouth. They certainly looked delicious but it will take quite a bit more for her taste buds. She hasn't had anything really sweet in ages and some sugar will help boost her morale. The baker seemed fair enough, she was a patient person, it was ironic seeing as she was always pressed for time.
Than came another person entering the shop. One of the first thing she noted was the fact that this man had blonde hair and seemed to be the size listed on the order. By the way he was interacting with the baker it seemed as though he worked here. If he worked here than that would mean a residence. She would investigate further, perhaps at night.
Jya let out a cough, it was strange her sickness was better for awhile now. Her frequency of attacks has lowered as well as the power, yet she knew she was not quite cured. Perhaps her newfound strength helped her health even a tiny bit but her new profession seemed to cause another worry.
"Alright, I hope you could do a special order, my taste buds are not the best so I really need something strong," she said looking over at all the different types of pastry.
"I was hoping for something sweet for once but I never really ordered a sweet like this."

"Something very sweet, eh? Hey Ralph, why don't you make that one thing, you know? That cake recipe you made that was too sweet for everyone."
"Bill, I keep telling you that I accidentally put in too much sugar... Oh, fine. If the customer wants it strong, I guess that would work."
Ralph walked behind the counter, grabbing an apron bearing the bakery's name. "Right, one Crimson Special with double sugar." Although on break, he immediately went to work. One ingredient after another, his hands moved quickly. The position of everything had been memorized by Ralph a while back.
It wasn't long before he had mixed the ingredients up and put the scarlet-colored mixture in the oven. While it baked, Ralph walked back to where the girl waited. "So you said that your taste buds aren't good? I'm curious, do you know why?"
He didn't assume that people always knew everything about their conditions. After all, Ralph had no idea what caused his blindness.

Jya watched in amazement as the young man got to work. Were there little slits in that blindfold of his? He was skillful baker to her eyes, after all she was an assassin not a baker. Before long she had her personal cake. She took a fork and tasted the cake. It was truly sweet and really quite a treat. She was sure to leave an extra tip for the troubles.
"I've been taking in various kinds of medicines, somewhere down the line I lost most of my taste as well as being able to get drunk," she replied, putting a handsome amount of money on the table. She really wasn't sure how much to pay for one cake.

"Oh, that's too bad. I don't have the money for medicines, and I don't even know if there is anything out there to cure my condition... The name's Ralph by the way. Ralph Meglane, what's your name?" Ralph said while Bill took the money off the table.
Bill whispered to Ralph, "Hey kid, why not hook up with this girl. She looks cute, and she seemed to like your cake." He grinned, not that Ralph could see it.
Ralph replied out loud, "Come on Bill, relationships aren't started over a few words. It's not like I even know what she looks like, so the 'cute' part doesn't effect me."
It wasn't just Jya, Bill said this to Ralph about every young woman who came into the store. Although, Ralph had to admit that the girl's soft voice was pleasant to listen to. It wasn't a voice he would forget soon for sure.

Jya was trying to comprehend Bill the baker's statement. She never really considered dating or falling in love with someone. It was best not to consider such things especially with her profession.
"My name is Jya and I really appreciate the cake," she had a hard time believing anyone bad would kill another's husband but she had to be sure.
"I guess I'll see you later perhaps?" she asked, making her way out of the shop. She'll go out for awhile and come back for this guy later.

Eventually night fell. Ralph only knew that because Bill closed up shop.
Ralph slept a couple hours, but still woke up to a dead city. He hopped out of his bed and walked outside. It was a little chilly, but he didn't mind. He nimbly climbed on to the roof, and raised his head to the sky.
I wonder how Rayl and Karina are doing... he thought. This quiet night, he felt moreso than any other day, that he wanted to see again. There had to be some reason, magical or otherwise, for it. That reason had to be out there somewhere, waiting for him.

Jya took her time travelling through the streets. Daytime is over and she had no lead. The vague description doesn't help one bit and the townspeople never seem to give out information willingly. All of them act oblivious to her questions but she swore she could tell that at least some of them were lying. Yes she had practice and she should know a lie when there was one.
Through her walk she found herself back at the bakery and noticed that the blonde haired, the blind man (?) was up on top of the roof. Well she might as well try to figure out if the guy really had blue eyes at least. With little effort she climbed on top of whatever footing she could get at. Climbing buildings was different then trees but she had training in both. Close to the top she found that the only way up was to jump. Against her instincts she got herself to do it landings and rolling with a soft thump. With her training it was perhaps the sound of a cat or other relatively small animal. While she was jumping up she had unsheathed the blade as to make sure to make both sounds as close as possible to one another.
Her eyes were set at the sash around the man's eyes and she did give it a good pounce, her slim sword carefully aimed.

Suddenly a noise interrupted the silence, and Ralph turned his head toward the source briefly. "Was that... a cat? Must-"
He was cut off by the sound of a blade cutting through the air. Before he could react, the blade cut right through his bandanna, showing off his bright green eyes with strangely white pupils.
"W-what..." Ralph quickly pulled out his own slim sword. "Identify yourself now!"

Jya flinched and immediately felt ashamed for what she did. Ralph's eyes were definitely not blue. She stood there not moving a muscle and barely breathing trying to find a reason to justify herself. It was far too embarrassing, it was best to tell the truth.
"Sorry, wrong person, I thought you had blue eyes, maybe, who knows my target could be acting blind," she said looking straight into his eyes.
"Well, uhh I'm really new at this assassin business and freelancing is difficult when they give you vague information."

"What, Jya?" He said, immediately recognizing her voice. Voice recognition was one of his better talents. "What do you mean..?"
Than she said it, assassin. Ralph picked up his sword into a fighting stance. "An assassin?! You kill people for profit, is that it? You seemed like such a nice girl in the bakery, but I guess that's how you catch your targets off-guard, huh? The world would be better off if I killed you now, so that you can't kill anyone else!"
He lunged forward to where Jya had been speaking, swinging his sword in a downward strike.
