”D**n it! Why can’t I do this?” The young man cursed as he raised the lance and tried to do the same motion again, a defensive stance the old man had showed him. As he swung the slim lance around he flinched and his left hand released out of reflex, but the motion carried and almost put him as on his backside. ”Hm, that hurts.” Vadim sighed, striking the lance into the dirt to stand as he sat on a log, rubbing his bad shoulder. ”Eighteen and already wounded, ha, why do I keep trying?” He grumbled, cursing himself under his breath as he took the lance up again.
He knew why he kept trying and would continue to try even if he continued to fail; he had a personal mission to fulfill. The memory of the old grandfather who had given him this very spear barely a month back, then the memory of that man and his family, slaughtered and left to the ravens. ~I’ll avenge you, old man, I promise. This injustice will not stand!~ Vadim thought to himself settling into a ready stance, grinding his feet into a firm grip on the ground and taking a loose hold on the lance. His should ached, he ignored it this time. ~I’ll find a way, no matter how long it takes, I’ll hunt everyone of them and run them through.”~ He wondered what the old man would say at this point if he was here. Vadim managed a grin, the grandfather would probably chastise his young apprentice for being so foolish. ~Sorry, old man, I wasn’t always one to do as I was told.~
Vadim stepped back quickly, spinning the lance before him as if deflecting a sword, before countering with a stab, using the full length of the weapon to keep his imaginary attacker at a distance. Or, at least, that was his intent. Instead, when he spun the lance, he ended up whacking the, thankfully, blunt handle above the blade into his ankle. Vadim yelped in surprise and some anger, a string of curses coming from him as well as he set the lance down against the log and sat himself next to it. ”Ahaha, wow I need work.” Oh he was mad at himself, but he normally was one to try and laugh it off, though with each trial and errors that was getting harder.

[OOC: Is anyone else is interested in joining, feel free to jump in anytime ] Vadim cracked his neck and stood, taking his lance up again and facing the make-shift target he had made from gathered wood and vines. It looked kind of like a person, just with no head, he had thought about putting a head sized stone there, but decided against it since, with his luck, it would break the blade. Vadim tried the same motion that he had just tried again, avoiding his ankle this time, and managed to hit the target with the point of his lance. Only problem was he was over estimated the length of his weapon and the blade barely would have stopped an attacked with any kind of battle experience under their belt. ”Well, I didn’t miss.” He said to himself with a grin and a shrug, better, but far from able to actually attack anything or anyone. Changing his practice, Vadim instead started to spin the blade around in front of him and then trying around him. Getting a feel for its balance, length, weight, everything that may help him, this was no amazing lance or anything, but it was better then nothing since he had lost the ability to carry a bow. ”Not that I held one for very long anyway.” He grumbled, hearing the blade scraped against the ground on one pass before digging in on the next and twisting the blade from his hands. ”Sorry, old man, I’m doing my best without you.” Vadim said and picked the lance back up again to try again, never give up, never give in. He had a promise to himself to keep and he needed to be d**n good with this thing before that promise could be fulfilled.

”Hmph.” Vadim snorted, placing a foot on the target and pulled his lance free. Frustration had caused him to simply jab his lance into the wood a few times. The last of which he had put more weight behind the strike and got his lance nearly stuck. With the lance free, he set the butt on the ground and leaned it against his shoulder, taking a water flask from his pocket and taking a long drink from it. Kind of warm for his tastes, but at least it was wet and was better then nothing.
Setting the flask back into his pocket, Vadim grabbed the lance again and turned back to his target. He settled himself for a moment before thrusting out, trying to use the length of the weapon to make the attack hit harder and to keep his enemy away from him. He must have hit some solid piece of wood in the target as the lance suddenly stopped and vibration shot up his arm. Vadim winced and released, leaving the weapon hanging out of the target as he rubbed his bad shoulder. ”Hard to believe it’s easier then anything else I have tried.” He sighed, swords required his shoulder moving too much, axes were heavy, magic he had no ability for and bow work was how he got hurt in the first place. That left the lance, which was fine with him, even with hard of time he had learning it, he was starting to like it, it had an art behind it that he had every intention of learning. He thought, however, that perhaps having someone to practice with, who also knew the lance, would be nice.

"Oh geez, I totally lost the path thanks to that old rogue. Now where do I go? Caecus?" Ralph called out to the sky. "You around here somewhere? Man, where did that falcon fly off to?" No call returned, and thus Caecus couldn't be anywhere nearby. Ralph hoped that he had not moved too quickly, and that Caecus couldn't find him. He would have a lot more difficulty traveling without his "eyes."
As he continued walking, he started to hear what sounded like someone training. Ralph really had no idea where he had ended up, so he walked towards the sounds. Seemed like a lance maybe? The dull thud of steel on wood made it difficult to determine what weapon they were using.
The noises got louder as Ralph neared the practice session. "Hello? Excuse me, could you tell me where I am? I seem to be a little lost."

[OOC: Yay a person! ] Vadim stopped when he heard the voice behind him, flinching a little at being caught by surprise. ~ Someone asking for directions and you jump like a startled deer, way to go.”~ He sighed in his mind as he looked the man over, was he, blind? Vadim thought for a moment, where was here again? Ah, right! ”You are on the roads of Lycia, well, right now you’re about a mile off said road to be exact. Where are you trying to head to, stranger? I can help point the way and get you on the right track. Name’s Vadim by the way.” He said, picking his lance up and setting it across on his shoulders behind him neck. ”Laus is closest city from here I believe, perhaps a two our walk?” He offered in case the stranger wasn’t going anywhere but the closest location. Vadim found it a little odd for a blind man to be traveling alone, but it was not his business and the man didn’t look like he had had any trouble on the way.

"I'm not headed anywhere particular at the moment. I do seem to have lost a companion though, so I'll probably need to stick around here in case he shows up." Ralph replied.
Really though, where did that bird go away to?
"Laus, huh? Ah, I forget my geography. How close is that to Pherae, do you know?" It hadn't been long since he had left Pherae, so the authorities were probably still looking for him there. It wouldn't be long before his face had spread through the whole of Lycia. Eventually someone would recognize him, regardless of how good his disguise was.

”A lost companion? And who or what would this companion be if I may ask?” Vadim inquired, glancing around for anything beyond trees and the trail that led to this area. ”Pherea? Hm, about half a day I suppose. Please, sit if you like, I think I’ll set practicing aside for a while, before I hurt myself again.” Vadim said, sitting back on a log himself and leaning his lance against it. He reached down and rubbed his ankle before rubbing his left shoulder again with a sigh.

"Oh, my falcon? His name's Caecus, but I don't know where he went to after we got separated." Ralph nodded when told how far Pherae was. He had completely lost track of time when he met up with that old rogue, so he still didn't even know if it were night or day.
He took up the young man's offer and sat next to a tree nearby, listening to him practice. "Oh, I didn't introduce myself, did I? The name's Ralph." he said from his position.

[OOC: Sorry for the wait, couldn’t get inspired.]
”A falcon and a companion? Interesting, never heard of such a thing.” Vadim said, leaning back on the log a bit. ”Well met, Ralph.” Vadim replied, he would nodded, but that seemed unneeded at the moment. ”If you want I can help you to a city, I know the roads well enough to get by.” Vadim offered, thinking. ”I might as well head to a city myself, and see if I can find someone willing to help me pick up the lance. My last teacher he… died, been nearly two full months now, I didn’t get much time in with him. I used to use a bow, but busted up my shoulder pretty badly, I can’t lift a bow and draw it anymore. Axes are too heavy for it, swords aren’t much better, the lance seems to be the best for me now. Ha! I tried magic, it blew back in my face.” He laughed.

"Well met indeed." Ralph said in response.
"Oh, I'm fine. I don't think I'll be going into any cities anytime soon. I wish I could help you with your dilemma, but I don't know much about lances. Just plain old swords for me." he patted the two swords that hung by his waist. Those swords had gotten him out of a lot of trouble.
"Swords aren't really that difficult you know. I bet you could use them well even with a bad shoulder. Well, maybe not the heavier ones."

”No worried, I’ll get into a city one of these days and find a trainer.” He eyed the swords that Ralph carried, they looked fine indeed. ”So I have been told before, but I’ve tried, can’t seem to get the hang of them. At least with a lance I can use my good arm and poke at things from a distance if I have to, swords are a little closer ranged. I’d rather keep my distance.” He chuckled. ”So, Ralph, how did you learn the swords, if I may ask? I mean no offence, and, it has nothing to do with you being, blind, just wondering who and how they taught you.”

Wait, how did Vadim know that Ralph was blind? Did he accidentally give off some hint like blank stares? It was a bit more obvious when he wore the blindfold, but with these oddly tinted glasses most people would just think he had an odd taste in accessories. This just meant that Ralph would have to try even harder to hide it.
His trainer, that old rogue who had claimed to have been him. Ralph wasn't sure if it really was him, so he had to answer honestly. "I don't know. A lot of my memory is filled with holes. I just remember being able to use swords even when I was young."

[OOC: Oh, shoot, my bad, I thought it would have been more obvious, sorry :/]
”Ah, I see.” Vadim replied with a slow nod. ”Like I said, I was wounded in my first battle, my left shoulder so I couldn’t use bows anymore. I left, bitter, and traveled, until I needed shelter for a night and found a family who took me in. To repay them I helped around their home for a while, their grandfather I guess took a shine to me and I goaded me into telling my story. He helped me start with the lance, gave me the basics and I studied with him for a long while, but I had to leave for a month.”
Vadim sighed and leaned back, the lance back in his hands as she ran the butt across the ground. ”I came back to find the house razed, everyone dead, smoke still flew from parts of the house. It had just happened, I moved down the road and found those responsible… it was beyond hard not to just run at them and attack. Ha, they would have killed me without a second thought, I could never take them on. So, I’ve found to train, to take as long as it takes to get good enough and strong before I go after them. I know the symbols they use, I burned that into my memory, I won’t forget. For what they did, they will pay.”

Vadim's tale brought up feelings of deja vu in the young rogue. He began to remember some of his own early life. "I've been through the same thing. My house was destroyed when I was very young, and I'm the only survivor I know of. I don't even remember anybody who lived there except for my..."
Ralph didn't finish his sentence. Already he could barely remember his mother. A fickle thing, memory was. When he was ten he was sure that he could remember everything about her. At the age of seventeen however, he couldn't even remember her face.

Vadim looked to Ralph as the man said of his own past, his home burning, memories gone. Vadim sighed and stood, taking his lance with him. ”You know, sometimes I do wonder why I keep trying, justice for what was done aside. Would killing them all actually solve anything beyond making me feel better at that moment and probably for only that moment? The old man would probably curse me out for even thinking of trying what I have every intention of doing.” Vadim gave course laugh. ”That old bastard, he never told me much about himself. When I found him, dead, he held his old lance, and somehow managed to get some of his armour on, armour I never saw before. For all of his age he was still able to wear a general’s armour.”
Vadim paced a moment before turning and driving with as much force as he could(which wasn’t really that much), drove the lance into his target. The blade sunk in and stuck and he started to pull on it while speaking. ”That’s another thing that drives me; get stronger, get that justice I seek and grow further. I know I’m young, but I’m no fool, just inexperienced and weak, but that’ll change.” His resolve was like steel.
