Vadim turned when the new man came into the scene, carrying a ton of equipment by the looks of him. Smith items maybe? Vadim wasn’t totally sure, he wasn’t a smith himself and hadn’t actually watched them at work before. Vadim studied him and came over, leaning on his lance somewhat, getting his nerves back under control. ”Vadim.” He replied with a nod to the man, who seemed to know Ralph. ”What do you mean Laus isn’t a good place to be right now?!” Vadim half demanded, stepping up closer, not in a threatening manner, just someone who really needed to know something.
When Elias opened his mouth and rambled on Vadim shot him a sour glance, snorting when he caught on that Ralph was blind and asking how he could see. ”I thought mages were supposed to be smarter?” Vadim said in a low voice, though he wasn’t really trying to hide what he had said. Yes, Elias had saved him, but that didn’t mean he was any less annoying thus far.
As Wyatt started to explain the situation in Vadim’s home city the young man cursed and drove the butt end of his lance into the ground. ”Damn… damn!” He swore again, leaning on his lance, his family, mother, father, older sister and little brother, all of them trapped there. ”I need to be there, I need to help my family.” He breathed and glanced around at the other men, if anything, however, his skills would only get him killed, and he knew it. His face showed how scared he was in truth, despite the attempt to show otherwise on his features.
He turned and sat down, pondering his options, what he could do to help, or get himself killed by while trying to help.

Wyatt watched the young lancemen take in what had happened...so he had family in Laus...
Family...
Wyatt closed his eyes for a moment and sighed. "When I was in Laus just the other day, it was pretty well deserted. Unless your family are soldiers, I don't imagine they'd be there anymore. They were preparing for war, which means the citizenry either fled to other territories, perhaps Santaruz or Pharae, or are taking shelter in the castle." He said, thinking on this. "I don't know if that will stop you, I know it wouldn't have stopped me. But I've seen what these things can do first hand...it is not pleasant. And entire town reduced to a graveyard devoid of life in a few days."
He watched his reaction. "I've told you what I know, so what now?" Why Wyatt asked would be a mystery. What did he have to gain from the kid's decision?

"Hey hey hey." Elias pointed at the lance guy, his expression deadly serious. "Not nice. I don't go around saying I thought Lance people were more coordinated." It wasn't an unfamiliar insult, but oh well. "So it's preparations for fighting a demonic army... Strange, I usually guess that." He smirked slightly, but not because of his words. "Actually I know exactly what you're talking about guy-with-a-huge-pack." What was his name again? Wy something? Wylie?
"I fought these fiend dogs before, and I have some of their hides in my pack. To be honest, if these monsters are in Laus I would like to see them again. It's a pity they're so violent and want to bite you with acidy jaws or else I would study one more closely. They look nothing like the local wildlife, but still similar to wolves. With dead patchy fur and rough hard skin. Fire barely pierces their hides, and I needed the help of a particularly strong swordsman to even separate their hides from their backs." He stood and thought for a moment. "It was not far from Ostia, around the border of it with Etruria where it happened..."
"I'll go with you somewhat rude lance guy, let you be a hero."

[OOC: Oi, what happened to the formatting in my last post? riiiight, I guess something non my end messed up, looks fine now ] So his family had probably fled the city then as well? Things were looking grim for the young lancer, and getting worse as well. He wasn?t strong enough to be of any help, hell, he just nearly been killed not ten minutes ago. His father wasn?t much of a fighter, worse even then Vadim was, if one could imagine. When asked what he would do now, Vadim weighed his options for a few moments before standing, slowly, and turning to face Wyatt. ?I get stronger, better able to fight, so I can fight and actually be able to protect them, let alone myself. I was just nearly killed a few minutes ago if it wasn?t for that mage there, that proved I?m no where near ready to get into anything heavy.?He snarled and grabbed his lance, staring away for a moment before looking back to Wyatt. ?It now seems I have three personal goals; become strong enough to fight, avenge the family that took me in when I left Laus, and find my own family again and make amends with them for leaving in the first place.? His face set, his eyes burned. ?You seem well traveled, do you know of anyone who would take on a recruit like myself? I?ll work hard, do what share of chores if needed, I?ll find a way to pay as well if they want. I can?t keep trying to train myself on my own, look where that?s got me so far.? His energy as up, and he had the drive in him to learn, that burning desire to know the lance like an extension of his own arm, fluid, easy, light, deadly. He failed to mention his bad shoulder, but screw it, he?d work through whatever pain that gave him without complaint.

"So then," Ralph said to Wyatt, "I've heard very little about these creatures. People around Pherae tried to not mention it in public. Do you have any idea what is causing these creatures to attack, or how we might stop them?"
He turned to Vadim, "I think you should leave Lycia for now. If these beasts are on the move, then nobody is safe." Ralph didn't know how good Elias or Wyatt were in a fight, but he knew that this kid would be a burden if those beasts were to attack now.

Wyatt watched the mage, Elias was it, retort back at Vadim. And Vadim's reaction to the news was somewhat odd to Wyatt, but he let it go.
When Ralph asked him about the creatures, he just shuddered. "Well, Elias already described the wolves pretty well. People have been calling them 'Doom Hounds' from what I can tell. And the risen dead....most people still deny that as being real...but it is, I've seen it first hand." He paused. "As for where they strike, I have no idea. First time I saw them was in a section of woods between Laus and Ostia, right before the city was destroyed. Then the rumors said that the living dead appeared at Ostia, but a lot of people discounted that as Eturian rumors to justify the attack. But after seeing what I have...I'm not so sure anymore."
He thought long and hard for a moment. "I've been all over, and that's all I've really seen of them...well, until I saw a town in Laus totally demolished by them."
When Ralph mentioned leaving Lycia, Wyatt looked over at him, not like he'd know.
"Where do you suggest then? I doubt any place is very safe these days."

"The living dead?! I haven't even heard rumors like that. I thought that what happened to Ostia was Etruria's fault myself. It may be still, since we don't even know where this evil is coming from."
Ralph thought about where safety could possibly be found in today's dark world. "Etruria is out of the question, they'd draft or kill you the moment you walked in. Bern isn't much better with their rebelling against Ilia. I wouldn't be surprised if the safest place in the world right now was the pirate-infested West Isles, though Sacae is much closer. Who knows when Sacae will be attacked by those creatures or Etruria."
Wyatt was right, there weren't any places that were safe. Even getting to the Western Isles depended on getting through Etruria first. Either that or taking a month-long ship there from Lycia.

"Risen dead? First I've heard of it, I wonder if my father knows more..." He muttered, trailing off and going deep into thought. "Well I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm on my way to Ostia, or atleast the ruins of it. My father lives near there, for whatever reason he has. I'm sure there is one, he's just very cryptic like that." He thought it over more. He looked at the other three, the Big pack dude, green blind guy, and lance toting man. While he wanted to head to Laus to see this abomination first hand, that wasn't his top priority. He needed to head home, this was what he decided. He needed to know what his Father had planned when he sent Razzle to him. And he needed to for... other reasons.
"I've been all over Elibe. Ilia is in the middle of a small war with bandits, and the remains are trying to keep Bern in submission, Sacae is busy with it's little tribal wars and such, as well as being the primary road between Bern and Ilia. It's probably safer then most places about now. There was a big battle there a few months ago, however." The two hard-to-pronounce tribes and Big Red came to mind. "Bern is in the middle of a civil war, and it's always the civilians who get caught in the crossfire. And Etruria is, well, Etruria. Good luck getting in."
"Nabata and Western Isle, never been there, but really should try one day. Might be fun." He added thoughtlessly, stroking his chin. "If you're looking for safety, I'd say try Bulgar or City of heroes in Sacae." Safety was boring though. "I'm heading to Ostia though." He repeated for the umpteenth time.

Wyatt wasn't the only one with a lot to say, that was true. When Elias mentioned Ostia, his eyes flashed for a brief moment.
"Hmm...I never did see Ostia for myself. Maybe there is something there worth looking at? I think I'll tag along with you Elias, if you do not mind the company of course." He said, deciding on the spot that it was final.
"You do know, though, that if Ostia was really the center of this, the trip will likely be very dangerous." He looked to the north, wondering to himself. "I would be surprised if we didn't run into some serious trouble along the way, are you ok with that?"

"I would like to go with you two as well. I think I've proven myself fairly capable, wouldn't you say?"
Ostia... Ralph thought, That was where my journey began, wasn't it? There was a terrible battle there, then something really bad after the battle. And all I can remember after that is sand. Ralph couldn't help but fear that the beginning of his previous journey would be the end of this one.

"Well I won't turn down the company, that's for sure." He grinned as he spoke. "I think Ostia is the center of some mystery, that's probably why my father is out there." He thought it over for a moment, Ostia had been destroyed not long after he left home about a year and a half ago. There, in the ruins of the destroyed city lay a mystery, some mystery, and these monsters were a part of it. He would bet gold on it. He was attacked before, near Ostia, and now Laus is under attack on the road to Ostia. However, there weren't attacks in, say, Bern. It was this area, around here, and they've only started showing up since the destruction as far as Elias knew. He's heard tales, but they didn't really interest him until he met the beasts first hand.
Still, that was only one reason of many that he wanted to head there. He couldn't deny it piqued his curiosity however. "I'll be fine, I'm a mage of some talent." The former CRIMSON mage, though he doubted they heard of him. He did however get lost often. "And if things get to heavy, there's always the option to retreat. I'm good at running."

Wyatt's face split into a grin. "Yeah, it's been a while since a good fight. Man, I hope I still remember how to fight at all." He looked about those gathered there and thought to himself. "Hmmm, Swords, Lances, Axes and magic, looks like we have all of the major bases covered."
He looked about those gathered and his eyes settled on Vadim. "Though, at the first opportunity, we're gonna have to get you something red so you fit in!" He said with a chuckle. He then turned looking down the path that would lead them to Ostia.
"I don't think I ever mentioned it, and in case the giant maul on my back didn't give it away, I am a smith. And I have worked on armor that small before." He said to Vadim. "So I can help keep that stuff in good repair. So, what's your story?" He directed this question to Elias, but the right to answer was anyone's.

Vadim grunted and listened to the other men talk now, he didn’t know much about the area outside of Lycia so he would need to be directed. He looked to Ralph and nodded. ”You’re right, I’m not going to be able to do any good here.” He replied sourly as the conversation turned back to the living dead. Vadim listened carefully to what they were saying, taking in what he could. Ostia seemed to be the location of choice for the travelers. Vadim didn’t see that he had much of a choice, if he walked alone he was dead for sure, at least with these guys he could be protected and maybe help in some way.
When Wyatt made the joke about the red Vadim managed a small grin. ”Green would work better.” He replied with the same grin, his skills were about as green as the grass or the leaves on the trees. ”Good to know, if I find it needs repairs, I’ll let you know, I’ll pay of course.” Vadim replied with a nod of thanks, how he’d pay was another story, but he’d find a way. The only thing to his name was the gifted lance he carried, some vulneries and the clothing he wore.
Wyatt asked a question of them all, but Vadim waited till Elias had replied first, since the question seemed directed at him most. After that, he answered. ”I was a bowman in a militia group in Laus, but in my first might I screwed my left shoulder up enough that I can’t lift an draw a bow anymore. I left Laus, was taken in by a small family who’s grandfather got me using a lance. I find its easy then a sword or axe to use, lighter, left force needed, my shoulder is getting stronger as the weeks and months pass. The family was slaughtered by bandits before I could help them, I know who did it, their symbol, and I’ll find them.” Short and heavy on detail, that was all Wyatt and the mage needed to know, though Ralph, of course, knew more of the story.

"My story? Eh, that's a boring one." Elias pondered mindlessly, beginning to pace. "Well, atleast to most people. My father's a Druid, one who's always been interested in the weird stuff. Scrying, alchemy, the scouring heroes, etcetera. He messed up his leg a long time ago, and was forced to leave the military, so he went with his wife and eventually adopted me." He stopped for a minute. Literally stopping in the middle of his walk, as his mind thought and pondered over everything. Everything until that point was so simple, but after... Elias wasn't even sure what was real anymore, and what he had made up.
He began to walk again. "Anyways... I suppose it doesn't matter, he taught me magic. I left home, and now I'm coming back." Yes, they didn't want an autobiography, just the simple facts. No doubt no one even cared to be quite honest, he really didn't care about their histories either. It was a formality, everyone was always far too wrapped up in their own lives and problems to care about anyone else's.

Wyatt nodded at Elias's simple story, and listened to Vadim's as well. "Hmm, this feels like the group I met up with when I left home. Anyway, I'd say we should get going if we want to hit Ostia any time soon. These roads are not particularly easy to travel at night in the best of times. Now a days...I don't want to imagine how bad it's gotten."
He looked down the path to the north and felt more then a little apprehension. What awaited them there? Only time would tell, but he wasn't sure if he really wanted to find out.
OOC: Short post, I know. Anyone object to moving into Ostia? Don't think we have that much more here.
