This it! Tuatara thought, shuddering with excitment. HAHA! Victory is mine!! They'll see, the worlds never seen, let alone dreamed, what is about to happen.
"In the north corner we have Tut the Mad!" A overly loud and simplistic voice said. Tuatara walked forward into the arena. Tut the Mad... it has a nice ri- TUT?! He immediately turned to go back, but the gate was already down.
"Hey!" Tuatara yelled, gripping the gate with all fours, thrashing back and forth. "HE GOT MY NAME WRONG!!! NO ONE CALLS ME TUT! WELL, EXCEPT AEROS AND MANIS, BUT THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT A CROWD OF TEN-THOUSAND!" The look in his eyes made it look like his hair was actually on fire.
"And in the other corner, Preying Mantis!" The loud voice said. Tuatara stopped. Say... oh, hehe, you got me there. He got down and walked to face his enemy. An archer.
"You know," Tuatara began, talking to Mantis, "I've never really had the chance to-" "FIGHT!" "-an archer. And hey, your name reminds-" Zip! "Hey!" Tuatara said, jumping to the side as an arrow flew past him. "I'm talking here!"

Wyatt had been interested in this fight. A sword user versus a bowman...it promised to be an interesting fight. Not to mention that it was that brat from earlier, and Wyatt wouldn't deny wanting to see him knocked around a little bit.
And the fight almost ended before it started, as an arrow flew right past Tut. Was he...trying to hold a conversation? What was wrong with this kid?
[red]"Well, it looks like he really lives up to his name of 'Tut the Mad'."[/red] He said to Clair, who he happened to be next to. [red]"How do you think he'll come out of this one? Can he beat an archer?"[/red]
Sure the kid was nimble, but he didn't look particularly focused, and that could likely get him killed. [red]"Well, at the very least he has some impressive footwork..."[/red] He muttered.

Tut the Mad, huh? He seems insane so I guess the title fits. Aurek was impressed by how nimbly the man had dodged that first arrow though. He seems to know what he is doing. But all that incessant yelling is grating on my nerves. Aurek had completely forgotten about his fight as he watched the battle.
With no prior experience to combat, Aurek figured the noisy one had zero chance against the archer. There is no way he'll get close enough to land a hit. At least not without being injured severely. No one nearby was paying much attention so Aurek slowly wormed his way toward the front, hoping to get a better view of the thrashing he was sure would happen.

Tuatara eyed the Mantis as he stringed another arrow. Insert battle music, he thought. Budda budda duh budahbudah duhda.... He dashed to the left, and was immediately met with arrows. Behind him. So we're playing that game. Obviously he'll try to get me to slip up and he'll shoot in front of me and try to get me that way. So I'll look for his change in direction. Tuatara circled the guy a few times, trying to close in a little each time. Mantis seemed to be aiming a bit different.
Now! Tuatara made a beeline for the dumb archer, cape fluttering in the wind. But the archer was either smarter or dumber than he had anticipated, because he found himself on a colision course with an arrow. Uh oh... wait! Tuatara made his move, rolling his arm and 'catching' the arrow. He fell to the ground, feinting injury.
"Oh, you got me! The pain!" Tuatara said, trying to work up some tears. He wasn't very good at acting. He clutched the arrow with his right hand, and peeked to see if the archer might come close. He did. Mantis slowly aproached, an arrow half notched. Wait....wait...now!
Tuatara jumped to his feet, ran, jumped, and with one motion drew his dagger and slashed the man across the chest. He booted him afterwards before landing gently on his feet. He had a giant grin on his face.
"Ha!" Tuatara yelled, waving his left arm about while pointing. "I only pretended-" Pain shot up his arm as he saw the wooden shaft that was hanging out of his arm. "YOU SON OF A MONKEY'S BEARDED DRAGON EATING CRACKERS! YOU SHOT ME!" Real tears began to form, dripping down his face as he clutched his arm. A little blood stained his nice new shirt. "NOOOOOO!!!!!"

"....I really have no idea." Clair answered back to Wyatt, crossing her arms across her chest and keeping the lance gripped lightly in one hand. She didn't envy anyone who had to fight an opponent like this. Being shot full of arrows from a distance.... There was no challenge there. No testing of mettle and razor sharp reflexes going head to head. For a battle, they were necessary, but putting two fighters together (if the thief could be considered a fighter) of such mutually exclusive forms of fighting wasn't a true fight. It became a game to see who could stay inside their sweet spot the best.
She reached up and covered her face with her hand as she saw Tuatara get hit.
"He has to have some martial skills, because he wouldn't have survived to this day without them, but I've never actually seen him fight.... Not like this anyway." That was as much as she was going to say on that matter. No amount of prying was going to get her to talk about his activities in the guard station....
She looked up just in time to see him leap up and score a mark on the archer. Not a critical one, but it was something. He could still fight, even with an arrow shaft poking out of his arm. A smile exploded onto her face and she mouthed a "yeah!" as they faced down again.
"I just hope he knows to press his advantage while he's got it, or get out of there. Not alot's been done here to add to safety.... An arrow through the eye will still blind you, whether it's on the battlefield, or in an arena." Her voice took on a serious edge as she spoke this. This might be for the crowd's entertainment, but it could easily hold lasting dangers for many of the entrants.

This guy is an idiot. He thinks he caught the arrow. Things were going pretty much as expected. The archer would stay back and shoot the loud idiot repeatedly. The following actions surprised Aurek. The obnoxious man had landed a hit. It was impressive, especially with an arrow in his arm. After backing away again, the man noticed he had been shot though. He began yelling even louder it seemed. That was not so good. In fact, Aurek found it very troublesome that this fighter wouldn't shut up even in a fight. If there was ever a type of man I hate, it's this guy. Aurek looked on, hoping the archer would silence his opponent. "Stick a couple more arrows in that pincushion!"

Valcrist rolled his eyes as he watched things played out. "If this guy put half as much effort into battle as he did trying to be funny, he could mop the floor with the archer." He grumbled under his breath. That said, he had a soft spot for this 'mad' fellow. He heard a few people speaking nearby, as such like any good man he sidled closer to eavesdrop. Now Valcrist wasn't very good at recognizing voices, but he heard one of them just a bit ago. Wyatt was talking to some... woman? Yeah woman. She knew this 'the mad' fellow apparently.
She was blond, and looked painfully familiar. Unlike voices, he never forgot a face. Still, he decided to stand a bit aways, not wanting to get too close and interrupt this little conversation. Still, he couldn't deny his desire to hear what they were talking about. With an arena this loud, he needed to try and stay close but not so close as to look like he's trying to over hear. When did Valcrist pick up such a skeevy hobby?

Wyatt palmed his face when Tut took the hit. He'd been doing well, idiotic, but well. And then he went and got careless. He taunted his opponent before defeating them. [red]"I probably would have aimed for the bow string with those knives, but now it does look like he's in some serious trouble."[/red] He commented, watching the fight with a kind of half interest.
[red]"He's got speed, he's got skill, but he needs to be more focused on what he is doing. I guess that is why they call him 'The Mad' though. At the very least he lives up to his reputation."[/red]
Wyatt became aware of most of the gladiators sharing his sentiment about Tut, but the crowd seemed to love his antics. A true clown, go figure.

"Wait did that man seriously think he caught that arrow?"Edrick says. "That not work unless you had some type of gauntlet or something," shaking his head in disbelief at the man's actions. "But he does have some skill though, he actually managed to land a hit on the archer." "GET UP CLOSE AND STAY UP CLOSE KEEP HIM OUT OF HIS COMFORT ZONE!!" Edrick yells trying to be helpful to Tut "the mad".

Post by Richter Abend on Sept 17, 2012 23:11:01 GMT -6
Richter frowned as Tuatara quickly went to work in his chosen craft: making a fool of himself.
The disguised commander had placed his proverbial coins on the "Preying Mantis", and yet a flicker of surprise had fluttered through the Ilian, particularly when the orange haired thief made to reveal his feint. However, the surprise had faded just as quickly as Tuatara's smile. Richter could see the wisdom, inappropriate the word may be, in Tuatara's intended plan, but the execution had been expectedly sloppy. Had the arrow been six inches more to the right, the mad little man would have died.
Too bad.
"Stop your howling," Richter thought silently to himself, non-verbally joining in on the badgering. "This match is painful enough to watch as it is."

Tuatara wiped the tears from his eyes. "Ok," he said, sheathing his dagger and breaking off most of the arrow shaft. By now Mantis had regained his footing and was trying to escape. The wound on his chest bled a little. "Here I come!"
Tuatara ran at Mantis, dropping the shaft. Mantis fumbled for an arrow as he backed away. Tuatara ran past, a flurry of movement taking place as he did. Before Mantis realized it, Tuatara had his quiver strapped to his back. He turned to look at the thief.
"Oh, sorry, my bad, it's a habit of mine," Tuatara said, smirking. "I'll give it back to you later. Now, as I was saying, your name reminds me of my brothers. Kinda look- nah, you don't look like him. So, what you gonna do now? You only have one arrow, and..." He snapped, and the mans pants fell to his knees. "You can't run away." Mantis paled. Tuatara turned to the general direction of Clair. "DOES THIS COUNT?"

It was official. Aurek was going to kill this man. If Mantis didn't first. "Stangle him with your bow! Destroy that little worm! Make him eat bloody dirt!" If there ever was a time when Aurek had lost his cool, it was now. This Mad man was completely insane and needed a good beating. Which would hopefully end in his bloody demise. He just never shut up! With little else to do, Aurek looked on in seething anger, covering his ears in an attempt to block out the crazy person's yammering. End this already! Words were no longer adequate. Aurek sat down and covered himself completely. Someone shut him up.

Well, taking the quiver was a good idea. That would have been a good opener. Too bad distance had been against her... what was Tuatara? Probably an acquaintance. A very unique one. She watched as the battle continued, and saw Mantis' pants drop. A long suffering look passed over her face and she raised an eyebrow
Honestly, there were a couple of things that disgusted her at the moment. The lesser was how flimsy Mantis' harness must be for his belt to suddenly fail him. The other was how light and nonsensical the orange haired thief was treating this. She was beginning to agree with the one shouting to strangle Tut the Mad with his bow.
She saw him turn towards the underground, and shout something. ...Does what count? She honestly had no idea what he was talking about, and probably didn't care by now. She turned around and left the railings with an annoyed groan under her breath, loathing his attitude. The crowd loved it though. She could hear them roaring in surprised laughter. It didn't matter what he thought. Not everything was a game.

"Wow. Just wow. Taking Mantis' quiver was a smart and skillful move, but dropping the man's pants was just adding insult to injury." Edrick says to no one in particular. But Tut seemed skilled even though his full attention was not focused on the battle. "NOW FINISH THAT ARCHER OFF!" Edrick yelled adding adding his voice to the roaring of the crowd.

Ugh. There it was. The pants thing again.
Richter scoffed. This entire fight was a joke, and the Ilian felt just as bad for the audience watching it, despite the fact that they clearly loved it, as he did the poor archer fighting in it. Obviously anybody using a bow was at a disadvantage in an arena setting, but this man was being made a fool of in front of thousands by...by a fool. It had to be excruciatingly embarrassing.
Hopefully the fight would be over soon, preferably by surrender, though if it were Richter currently in the ring, the orange haired idiot would be choking on a bowstring.
