"Of course young master. May the earth accept this man, but we cannot simply stop in this heat." She seemed distant, and somewhat distraught. This weighed on her mind naturally, it would have weighed on his as well if he was in her position. Somehow, it didn't faze him all that much. It surprised him how little this surprised him, maybe he was becoming jaded in his great age? They were alone for now, but that wasn't going to last very long as the wind carried the sound of distant voices to his ears. There were several, three or four, two of them sounded nearly the same but the fact they spoke at the same time proved it belonged to two separate folk. They seemed to be nearing, probably drawn by the rancid smells that oozed from the corpse, Camille noticed them as well shortly after he did.
"We should hurry, it mi-" He began before she called out to them without a second thought. "What?! Why did you do that?!" Guards or brigands, really he wasn't looking forward to running into either, but she just called them over without even thinking it over for half a second. He hoped they were guards, because if they were brigands he's probably have to cower and hide or something. He wasn't exactly a 'combat inclined' individual. "I thought you wanted to check them out before they saw us, it's hard to do that if they know where we are already." He was clearly irritated, with his wide eyes and high strung tone. But he simply let it go with a sigh, this wasn't a surprise or anything after all. "Do be careful at least." He'd protect her if he had to, but it's more likely she'd end up protecting him. He may be the one with the common sense, but she had the pointy stick.

Not a moment after they had hidden on the hill overlooking the corpse, the ones in pursuit half-slid, half-fell down the steep side adjacent from Camille and Garrett. There could have been more, but Camille had counted a grand total of five not including their mounts. Their clothes seemed too bright to be bandits, honestly. Disregarding Uncle again, she popped her head up and made a waving motion with her lance in hand. "Hey, any of you know whe--" A wave of heat smacked her across the eyes as a small bolt of fire flew past. The muscular one in the group shot a menacing glare at her, probably saying 'I missed because I wanted to.' A little of her hair and armour had been singed, but she'd be fine. Who she guessed was the leader and another were checking the body. The tumors made the second searcher gag a little bit.
"Told him not to wander off.." The leader cursed under her breath. "Erin, could you please not be so trigger happy? I'm not in the mood. Even if it's a teen, we still have to keep it from being charbroiled for right now." Big man crossed his arms. "Sorry, boss. Gotta be careful." The other two were standing on the sidelines, watching Camille thoughtfully. "Err, I come in peace-- wait what do you mean, 'another one'? There's more of those things?" She said. "Then you'll have to prove it." Boss said without looking up. She collected one of the smaller tumors with a pair of tweezers and dropped it into a beaker after struggling to jam it in. "Today's not a good day, so I'll be making this quick. Get over here, or you can join Al down here." she pointed back at the corpse. Camille held up a finger to protest. "Go where?" "Why don't you--" "find out and see? Good luck getting--" "anywhere else with that sun up there." She looked down at Garrett. "Err, sorry about that."

"Maybe brigands were the right guess young master." Garrett grumbled quietly, not wanting to provoke the easily provoked. If they almost shot them for simply standing around, he didn't want to learn what insulting them would accomplish. Though unhappy he may be, he would comply without complaints. They were mages, with all the perks it implied, they could roast the duo alive without them even having a chance to draw near. Camille was a talented fighter and a member of the city guard, but she was still just one person and honestly she lacked in experience in real battles. It's a different thing entirely between sparring and fending off bandits to fighting an obviously trained group of magi, and honestly Garrett couldn't do anything to help. Dead weight, as it were. Weapons just felt... too odd in his hands. If it came down to it though, he would protect Camille even if he had to shield her from blows with his very body. Perhaps he could... no. No that would be no help to anyone.
"We pose no harm."Garrett put his hands up so they could see he was very clearly unarmed as he came out of his 'hiding place' or whatever you'd call the hill. "We're simply travelers who've come across a disturbing scene." He counted five. All of them dressed in garish attire that befitted a mage, not far from the fluid soaked and soiled one that their unlucky friend was garbed in. They spoke as though the dead being was a part of their group, and none of them seemed particularly surprised or crushed at the event. So whatever caused this must not have been particularly uncommon, and they probably weren't particularly attached. If they were lucky, perhaps these folk will lead them right to their target...

The leader of the group sighed. "Look, at the minute I don't care if you're Elimine herself. But the two of you are going to have to come with us. Nothing personal, I assure you. It's not safe out here right now, and any travelers come with us if it's in our authority. And it is." Camille scowled as she picked at her blackened hair. This wasn't how it was supposed to go at all! She took a breath, and then another. Good thing Uncle was here, or there would definitely be crispy-fried Camille on the market. They collected their horses and the guard tied Camille and Garrett to the big one in the group. His horse was the largest out of the lot, probably an Eliminean Charger. Camille didn't really study horses that much, but you would definitely know one when you saw it. Hard to believe people still rode them through the desert; they weren't exactly the best for long trips.
The captain of the guard dismissed the two who sounded alike to dispose of the body. They set to work fast, digging through the sand until they hit the hardened clay and dirt underneath. They prodded the corpse in with the tip of a spade, but not before relieving the man of his hat, for unknown reasons. Maybe it was a sign of authority or something. They covered it with the dirt, and then the sand. A line was drawn around the "casket", and they drove the spade into the head of it to use as a grave marker. They lingered behind a little while the rest of the group rode on, (prisoners) passengers included.
The young woman looked grumbly throughout the entire trip, hands crossed and everything. Inside, however, she was ecstatic. They may have confiscated her spear, but that didn't dampen her spirits. She'd just build a new one if she really had to! The only worry she had was if they were going to Kharne or not. They looked like they were from there, honestly. Snooty gazes, vivid hair, gaudy clothes, the full monty. It was too funny, Etrurians relied a lot on Nabata's trade. They originally owned the Lycian Isles, but there was a revolt, led by some man who claimed to be Roland's descendant. It was all centuries ago, but the two countries were still at odds with each other today. And now, the only things Etruria is known for is textiles and mages. And their snootiness.
There wasn't much reason to talk. Camille conversed a little bit with Garrett but didn't get very far before being silenced. Surprisingly, the big man turned around and put a finger to his lips instead of scolding the two. She talked a little bit more but trailed off when she felt his eyes burning into the back of her head. Or was that actual heat? She couldn't really tell. The pair rode up behind them shortly. The one on the right reeked of bile, and Camille had a few guesses for why. The pair pulled back and gathered behind the group. It felt like ages, but Camille hoped it would worth it in the end. Garrett would've chewed her ears off for such a terrible plan, but she'd like to see him do better. Then again, he always beat her in chess, but that was totally different! --
It had been an hour or so since they were "captured". Camille wondered what took them so long if that was a place near the city, but if she had stopped to think on it further, she'd have theorized that they took a different path so that the two couldn't find it again. Snooty? Yes. Stupid? No. They stopped in front of a buncha sand dunes, the same as any other. "What makes here so special?" she inquired. The leader slipped away from her mount and walked over to a strange spot. It was like the heat was contorting around her... like she was a mirage. No, the mirage was what they were already seeing! It was like a lens was lifted from her eyes. A gazebo-esque structure appeared before them as the shimmering disappeared. The leader beckoned for Camille and Garrett to join. One by one everybody filed one. The scrawny one stayed back to see to the horses, though. The ground below them groaned and shifted. Camille looked to see what was happening. They had started sinking into the ground! Before she could say anything(which was pretty fast), the structure dropped.
Pressure was increasing, and Camille's lungs may or may not have smashed into her head. She grabbed Garrett by the hand and squeezed it tight. The structure finally slowed to a stop, with a hole in the wall opening for them. The group filed out, with Camille still squeezing Garrett's hand as the light adjusted around them. The structure zoomed back upwards and the door slid shut. What kind of sorcery was that? "Hey, civilians." The big guy murmured, but the acoustics made him sound great in the cave. "Let me cut to the chase for you. This is the city of Kharne. You're safe here for right now while we sort everything out. Your horses will come shortly, and don't cause any trouble." He handed Camille and Garrett the stuff they'd been carrying, weapon included. "Everything will be explained, I promise." While he'd been speaking, the group walked down the path into the capital. Camille was astonished they'd got in so easily. The man walked off at a hurried pace and vanished from sight, leaving the two alone in the dimly lighted tunnel, with only one way forward. "And you said I needed a plan." she mocked. "We're here! But the thing is, I didn't think it would be underground..."
