"H-huh?"
All this talk of money and eco-nonimies was rather confusing to Sylvia. Though seeing Cefia pick up her axe without any strain and continuing on her explaination without a missed beat was something that she got loud and clear. She also briefly listened to the really old guy. She didn't quite get it because he didn't either, but apparently the church had done something really bad to his son! That was terrible! And really really sad...
"Greetings."
Sylvia looked over at another new arrival, and a really pretty new arrival too, flashing a smile again at seeing another new face. "Hello!"
"I do hope I am not interrupting you." She added after Sylvia's greeting. "However, I have noticed that you are all mercenary and volunteers, am I correct?"
"Yep! That's right!"
"My name is Iadra Zobek, and I would like to thank you for assisting in the fight against these undead for whichever reason you may have. Your assistance shall be a great help."
"I'm Sylvia!" She introduced herself before she noticed a biiiiiiig dog beside the pretty lady. "Oooo... Is he your doggie?" She noticed a bit of red on his mouth, it was kinda... scary, actually given how big he was. She then swiftly turned her attention back to the really tall and strong green-haired lady.
"Sephtia! Will you teach me how to get SUPER STRONG like you!?" More important things first!

All the talk about theories left a rather sour taste in her mouth that only her drink seem to cure along with some meat. The whole axe fiasco never seemed to occur to her until Sylvia asked to be taught. She managed to take a small swig of the drink before coming up with a response. The entrance of another woman didn't help much either.
"I can, in due time, but I think we have a duty to perform today," she replied, giving a shrug and a glance of the woman and her dog.
"My name is Cefia," she greeted the woman, feeling obliged to get out of her seat and give a bow. She looked over at the dog, taking a piece of meat and offering it up. She always wanted a pet, but her parents never liked the idea of a mongrel hanging around.

Mana regretted her question. It seemed the topic was rather sensitive for Oleg, who looked a little sad now. The girl then sighed and leaned onto the table. It was partly her fault that the conversation had turned a little...sour. "Oh....well...I am sorry to hear that...and sorry for making you remember, too," she said. The girl then apologized to Oleg. The other seemed to feel it a bit, too. Alright, it was her resposibility to cheer the old mercenary. Mana was about to say some sort of lame joke or anything when a beautiful woman approached them. The woman dressed in some sort of fancy robe that added some elegant sense to her aura. Mana watched her as the bishop began to speak, the others then started to respond to Iadra with the same polite reply.
"You aren't interrupting anything, Miss Zobek. We are just resting and chatting before the battle. As for your "thank you", I guess you don't really need to thank us. It's just normal to help others, right?" Mana replied to Iadra, smiling. Her response showed a bit of her naivety, most people usually didn't risk life to face undead, especially if they wouldn't get paid. Mana herself had two reasons to be here. One, she wanted to help. Two, she had a promise. No payment or anything, but she would be ready to do what needed to protect the city. "So you are here for the same reason? I believe you are. I mean, you wouldn't be here if you don't plan to help." Honestly, Iadra gave the swordswoman a feeling of relief and kindness. This woman looked like a nun she ever met, Mana could feel the same pure aura.
"That dog is huge, by the way. Reminds me of my uncle's pet, he had a big gray wolf. It seems yours is smarter and also a little bigger, I think." Mana always liked animals, especially wolves and eagles. Dogs weren't so different from wolves so she liked them as well. She always disappointed about how most civilized dogs had lost their wild instinct, though.
Mana then noticed that more people had gathered in this place. Some people who looked like official members had started to greet and talk with the volunteers and mercenaries. A man who looked like the leader was seen descending the stairs from the second floor, accompanied by two men. He was an experienced ex-Lycia knight in his last fifty with silver armor and a sword with matching white color. "Maybe we don't have much time to rest. Tsk, I am still hungry....." she thought as she glanced at the old knight.

Oleg folded his arms and shook his head, slowly gaining a cheery expression. "Past is in the past. I may not believe in the saint, but I can still tolerate her followers." Oleg turned his head towards the rather stunning woman who had joined them, nodding to her respectfully as he then turned his head back to face Mana. "And besides, feeling grim before a battle is never advised." He chuckled, taking a long sip from his wine once more, placing the cup on the table, peering around for a moment. "Any idea when we will get moving? Or do we need to see someone first?"

With his sights in another direction and downwards, he nearly jumped a little on the inside when the large canine and the bottom of a dress walked right past him. Blinking twice, he gazed upwards only to see another polite woman introducing herself and her dog. That was one HUGE dog, not one he's seen before. The small splash of crimson on his mouth was a little...disturbing at first, but he assumed the large pet was just finished eating something, so he paid it little mind. Given that everyone was still making introductions, he figured he'd go on and pitch in too. "I'm Veigue, a traveling Sacaean. It's a pleasure." He immediately responded with a nod afterward. She seemed like a guild member, so guess it was normal for her to greet a group of strangers. Well, they'll all be fighting together anyway, so them being strangers were sort of irrelevant at this point.
As he leaned back in his seat with his arms folded, the swordsman was beginning to feel a bit uncomfortable due to the table now being full. Groups simply weren't his thing...heck, he was still getting used to traveling with a small group now. The lone wolf was too accustomed to solitude and he had almost a decade of journeying alone to blame for that. Not like he viewed it as a problem though. Just being surrounded by a group of people and interacting socially always left him a bit uneasy and lost for words to keep a general conversation steady. This time, he couldn't completely hide his expression as perfectly as he could last time, as he felt a little sweat drop slowly sliding down the side of his face and his eyelids closing halfway as he attempted to stare off into a blank direction.
Nothing to do but keep his usual cool and play it off when necessary. Not like they were going to be sitting here all day anyway. He decided to distract his mind with other things, such as looking back to the over-sized dog. As much as he loved canines, he managed to resist the urge to get out of his seat and pet him despite his rather intimidating appearance. He knew all dogs were gentle on the inside unless they have a reason to be aggressive. Though if his father's accusations about him truly being a murderous beast on the inside that'll one day unleash his fury on innocence, then the canine follower would probably bite back at him if he even attempted to touch him. Of course, the swordsman shouldn't allow past nonsense from a nonsensical disgrace to the plains-folk to judge his character. Either way, he just leaned back again after taking another sip of his tea and allowed his eyes to close for a little bit.

Everyone introduced themselves in turn, quite politely for that matter. Iadra smiled and bowed her head slightly. "It's an honor to meet all of you." She spoke in a gentle voice. Quite a few of them showed interest in Setanta, and the wolfhound was more then glad to have attention lavished upon it. Except for the older man, Set kept... nervously looking at him. For some reason, it escaped the notice of the bishop though, as she instead was thinking about the questions levied at her. "This is Setanta, my wolfhound. Please don't let how big he is scare you, he's a big softie." She ruffled the dog's head for a moment, and the hound let out a floppy pink tongue to lick her hand. As the other's petted the hound (and Set enjoying the attention from the strangers) Iadra talked to the Sacaen woman a bit more directly.
"It is a noble thing, that not many would do. To put your life on the line to help people like this? That is worthy of praise, or the least appreciation." The girl seemed kind at heart, and spoke with a sort of innocent optimism that the bishop found refreshing. "I too believe that the assisting of others is it's own reward, but it is nice to be recognized from time to time." Iadra naturally helped others as well, and perhaps that made her a bit naive herself, but she preferred to be naive and hopeful then jaded and cynical. "I came here to help the people against this plague, as is my duty as one of Elmine's faithful... Former faithful." She forgot, she left the church, still it felt like she carried it on her back everywhere she went. "My magic is particularly effective against these creatures, and my staff can ease the aches of those that put themselves on the line. Truth be told, I've been here a touch longer then I expected, I just simply could not leave while people were in danger." Several months, actually.
"Setanta is a hunting dog." Iadra explained with a small shrug. Looking over the hound, he was bigger then a wolf. She never noticed. "He's my dear friend and traveling companion, and he's very intelligent." She ruffled his head again, he gave a light bark of happiness. "But he is by no means as vicious as a wolf, he's a terrible guard dog, loves everybody." She giggled lightly. That wasn't entirely true, but there was only a few people Iadra met that Set didn't like, and they weren't good people. They say that her breed are terrible guard dogs, but perfect guardians, protecting their owner from those that would do harm. "I leave him here when I go fight these creatures though, those monsters are aboriginal, and I wouldn't want him to be harmed." She looked at her dog, and he slightly whined, as if he understood what she had said. Zombies and doomwolves, they didn't die like normal animals and people, and the ways dogs and wolves fought didn't work well against something that was already dead. Their poisonous flesh didn't help, it would make Set sick.
She looked at the other Sacaen at the table, Veigue, and he looked fine... But she could feel that he was uncomfortable. Just as well, she should leave these volunteers be. "I think I've bothered you enough, I just wished to welcome you and thank you for your help. I'll take my leave now." She finished with another small bow of the head.

Sylvia squealed a little as Cefia agreed to help her get buff. Now this was the kind of thing she liked about adventure! "Thank you, Cefia!" She cheerfully thanked the much taller woman before turning back to the big doggy again. The new pretty lady talked about how her magic could destroy the monsters and also about her big dog, Setanta. She moved closer to the big hound, petting him on the head while giggling happily. Even as big and imposing as he might be, he was really friendly too!
"I think I've bothered you enough, I just wished to welcome you and thank you for your help. I'll take my leave now."
"Oh, um..." Sylvia looked up from Setanta to Iadra. "We could work together!" Especially if her magic was really good against the monsters, then it was important to work together!

Julian Ironwind, an old retired Lycian knight and the personal advisor for the leader of Silver Cross, was descending the stairs with heavy steps. His eyes examined people who had gathered here to join in the guild's difficult quest. He pitied them, although he truly believed they were good enough to face the dead walker or any kind of monsters. The old knight couldn't help but thought that he was going to lead them to hell. Today had been a tough day for the him. The leader and most of the experienced members had left a few days ago, leaving the headquarter guarded only by a handful of new recruits or non-combatants. Well, there was also the local guardsmen here but they weren't very reliable to face the undeads. Undeads. Yes, that word had tortured his sleep since yesterday. No one, even the famous leader himself, would have expected that a big group of those dead walkers were somehow heading to the town. There should be some explanation about this horde coming toward this area but they needed to handle this crisis first before investigating the cause.
The old knight and his men went to the center of the room. "Attention, everyone!" One of his men shouted. The others then helped to silence the whole room and attract the gathered fighters' attention so their commander would be able to speak. After things had calmed down a little and the noise had died down, Julian believed he should start debriefing them. "First, I have to say my utmost gratitude to you all. You came here knowing what danger you would face. I am honored to be here with you all." He paused a bit. "As you probably have heard, we are going to march and fight against these dead creatures. It will be a new dreadful experience for most of you but I expect you not to falter. Yesterday, our scout came with some report, which couldn't be ignored. I have no time to tell you the details now....All I can say is this town is under threat of an undead horde." Julian paused again. This time he took the chance to see their reaction. Many were frightened, some were thrilled, and some kept their calm expressions. When he looked around, he noticed Iadra with a group of people. He nodded and smiled to the woman, who was new in the guild but already an important member and trusted light mage.
"As you know...they are not humans, they were once. And they are not alive. Normal means don't work on them which makes fighting them quite tricky. You can stab the heart but that won't kill them, you have to attack the head to slay them. Also, we have learned that light magic is very effective against the undeads. Be careful, they don't get tired or feel pain like us. Always expect some of them to carry weapons, just in case they really do." Maybe these people already knew the basic but the old knight felt he had to remind them once again before the battle. "The problem....no, the true enemy is probably yourself. Maybe most of you have ever fought people, and slayed many men. But have you killed women and children? Can you do it, even if they have become monsters?" Julian sighed and looked at the fighters. "Our opponents are not humans, but they do have shape of a human. Slight hesitations could endanger yourself and your companions, I don't want to see that...." he spoke with gentle tone. He wanted the volunteers and the mercenaries to at least know this before they made their final choice.
"You still have roughly a hour to prepare. I and my men will be waiting outside the town. Please remember this....We will respect your decision. No one will blame you if you decide not to come," he said to everyone. His tired eyes looked at them for the last time before he turned and started heading toward the exit. Most of Silver Cross members rose from their seats and quickly followed him while some of them decided to take it easy and stayed to talk with those who left. Some volunteers and mercenaries now had doubt and they seemed to consider not going.
Mana looked at her companions, her eyes showed no fear but the girl seriously had some troubled expression. The old knight's speech really got her. He was right. Could she really stab the undead if it is a child corpse? "Wow, it sounds more difficult than I thought. I mean....I know they are already dead but....I don't know. That man said it wouldn't be easy," she grumbled, crossing her arms across her chest. Now the swordswoman had only a very short time to get herself mentally prepared.

His left eye opened a tad as he realized Iadra seemed to look at him a bit after concluding. Hmm...couldn't shake that feeling that her last sentence was more directed towards him than the others. Even though he had to admit to himself that all the company was a little too much for him, it wasn't anyone's fault or that it was against Iadra personally. It was just the way he was around groups. Hearing Sylvia speak up, he nodded his head afterward. "...It's all right. You're not bothering us. We're working together to take these undead down, so thanks for checking with us, as well as the helpful information." He cracked a smile afterwards. Despite his uneasiness, now wasn't the time to allow it to control him and push others away like he usually does. After all, they all needed to watch each other's backs.
But then the apparent guild leaders came and made themselves known as he gave his extensive speech. As he listened, he realized some of the people were having mixed reactions to his words. Some of the reactions actually making him sigh a bit in disappointment while the rest were completely reasonable. As for himself, he kept his reaction to the minimum and didn't give much of an emotional response. There was no need to get too worked up already, as it'd be a waste of energy...but he never actually thought about the fact that the undead weren't exclusive to just passed on adults. Children could definitely fit in the mix as they were once living, breathing creatures as well. The mere thought of cutting down a child would leave a bad taste in his mouth...but when he decided to fight, he was going to fight no matter how rough it'd be. He wouldn't be standing here as the man he was today if he didn't walk into every battle he fought with that mindset. It was at least something he knew about himself that was genuine and that no one could deny.
As Mana spoke up herself, he could understand her concern. It was perfectly normal after all. However, he could possibly say something to give her mind some peace in case they did have to fight undead children and such. "All the more reason to give it our all. Those poor people who were resurrected from their grave do not deserve this kind of cruel punishment...children, men and women alike. When a soul departs from this world, they leave to a better place...only to be dragged back into this world while suffering the misery of being of the walking dead. By setting these people and children free again, I'm sure they'll actually thank us after passing back over to the other side." He passed off a positive smile towards his fellow Sacaean before looking towards everyone at the table. "We're also fighting for these undead's freedom as well. I know it'll probably be tough to strike them down after knowing all this, but we much persevere...for everyone's sake."

Oleg leaned against his chair as he listened to the grave speech. He just simply stared, his face not twisting into a frown or a smile. He then reached for his cup, sipping from it as he placed it down. He then spoke with a serious voice. "I've done worse for money. Just imagine the horrors they have done on their own and cutting them down is as easy as picking up a flower." Oleg continued his drinking, staring to the reactions of others. They were rather... Grim. They would get used to it in twenty or so years. In a few more, they will be begging for it all to end. He slowly chuckled to himself, stroking his chin.

Both men had helped her feel better, sort of. However, it wasn't easy for her to accept the fact that she might have to cut some children....undead children. Veigue was right, she should think it like helping those poor souls. She could free them from their cursed rotten bodies by cutting and destroying them. The bad taste for killing those innocent and tortured souls wouldn't easily disappear but if it meant she could help them then the swordswoman would gladly send them to their eternal rest.
Mana didn't fail to notice that Veigue had talked a lot. He had been mostly silent in the previous conversation so it was kinda refreshing to see him being more active. "You two said different very things. Yet, I think you two are right about this. No matter what we still have to do it, huh? For good or bad, killing their...bodies is the only thing we could do. Yeah, I guess I am feeling better now. Thanks!" she said, smiling to both men. It was good to have companions like them. Veigue was cool and kind, Oleg was mature and experienced, they could help Mana with things she lacked.
"Still, it will be my first time fighting the deads. That old man, I mean the one who look like the leader, didn't tell us much. And I am wondering why he said stabbing the heart won't work? Don't people usually die if we do that? Well, they aren't "people" anymore, I guess..." Mana then told themone of the few things she still hadn't understand. She knew very little about undeads and such minimum briefing wouldn't help her much. The girl tilted her head and looked at her companions as she waited for their answer.

"I would guess the blood is not important to the undead hordes anymore, so the heart would not affect them in any way... But everything needs a head to survive." Oleg nodded, finishing his drink as he placed the cup down. "Besides, the main point is that they are to be killed, no matter how. Thinking about it just causes more trouble than worth, trust me."

With a mere nod of his head followed by another smile, the swordsman acknowledged his fellow sister of the plains' gratitude. He actually wanted to see everyone at ease before facing off against the undead, as the announcement accurately stated that all of their feelings could play a major cause in casualties. The mixed reactions of the entire crowd of people surrounded the tavern was proof that some were either going to reconsider or try and fight their feelings. However, he continued to keep calm so he'd reserve that energy he'd lose worrying for the upcoming battle. The mere thought of killing those people again was taxing enough on the mind as is, so more worrying would be disastrous.
"Since everything on a walking corpse is rotten and decayed, their life force must come from something else...or someone externally." Veigue put in his two cent on the weakness of the undead, leaning back in his chair as he finished off the last bit of his sweetened tea. "But their brain must be one of the vital organs that still function...and when you lose that, you're dead. They must continue to need it if they still have the intellect to walk and attack...and moan. So really, neutralizing them from the head seems pretty logical. Though we won't find out if it's true or not until the time comes for battle."

Just as Iadra was about to bow her head and say farewell, the guild master showed up and began to give a speech she's heard before. It was a little weird, usually he doesn't say this, maybe there was problems in the last few missions about this? It was always hard to fight these creatures for many people, they looked just like people they may have known. Men, women, children, creatures that little more then shambling hunks of flesh and freshly dead and perfectly preserved people that look just as though they were confused and on the wrong side. Iadra has long since come to peace with it, perhaps almost frighteningly so. She slaughtered these creatures with almost no hesitation, even children, they weren't people anymore. They were creatures, monsters, and destroying them was the only way they could ever be at rest again. She held little mercy for these beings, which stood in such stark contrast to how she conducted herself usually.
Veigue spoke and Iadra simply nodded as he spoke. She had found herself lost in thought while the group spoke amongst herself. Thinking of many things, of the pandemic they found themselves engrossed in, of the necessity of their actions, of the shambling dead who certainly neared ever closer with every step, of the words of the man who spoke just minutes ago, of herself and her part in all of this, of this group of mercenaries and their desires and actions, it all swirled around her mind as she stayed ever silent. It was rude to interrupt, after all.
They spoke of how to kill these creatures, and that was something she could help with. "Veigue is correct on this matter, if you do not mind me interjecting." She held her hands in front of her properly as she spoke with a calm tone. "These creatures are not like living beings, their bodies are not animated in such a way as ours would be. They feel no pain, and no amount of bodily damage will put them down. Their flesh is weak and decayed, and are brittle and easily dismembered to be sure, but it is a fruitless endeavor. Dismembering them, striking at their heart or neck, damaging their body in general has little effect. It can impede their movement, the only ways to slay them are to either destroy the mind or to use light magic."
She stopped for a moment before speaking once more, as if she was thinking over her words before using them. "Light magic disrupts and destroys the dark magic that animates their bodies, but not all light magic is capable of such a feat. Only the light magic of one who has followed the doctrines of Elmine, I am not sure exactly how it is different but the type of magic I wield and the magic that a sage wields are similar in every way except for this. Their magic is useful naturally, but it doesn't have the ability to slay the undead with quite the same power. Perhaps it is a difference in the way we cast them, I am not sure." She stopped again, thinking once more.
"As for you all, the most effective way to slay them is to destroy the mind. I am not sure as to why that is the most effective area to strike them, it simply is. Unless you destroy the mind, they do not truly die. It appears to be the place the magic animates them from. Their bones are weak and their flesh soft and rotten, and their reactions are poor as they seem to be driven purely by instinct. They feel no pain and know no surrender, which makes them relentless foes but also sloppy combatants. They are easy enough to fell, but their numbers are great and many and it is a danger to act carelessly as you can be quickly overwhelmed."

"Geez...that sounds troublesome." Mana sighed and grumble as she heard their explanations. This battle wouldn't be like her previous battles, it would probably be much more challenging mentally. "I didn't thought it would be this difficult when I accepted the request. I should have brought some sacred amulets or something, maybe they work against those dark creatures. Oh well, at least they can be killed one way or another."
"Say...shouldn't we go to where the other Silver guys waiting? Sure, we have some time before the main event but lets just go there in case they decide to depart sooner. I don't want to be left behind." Mana knew they could just wait here until the time came. But if they were really determined to join the battle then it might be better if they were with the army. Mana would rise from her seat and depart if the others did the same.
