"I for one don't plan on going down without a fight. Maybe we just need to find the right knot to cut instead of worrying about how to untie the stupid thing."
Karen couldn't help be amused slightly by the knot comment. A fitting metaphor for the strange phenomena of the Monsters and their sudden appearance. It was if they came from nothing and nowhere, a knot in the logic of what made these creatures appear and what caused them to do what it was that they did. In a sense, they needed to find that knot and cut it to shreds. They needed to unveil the cause, the purpose, whatever it was that made these vile things come to rise and fight in Elibe.
"I'd definitely prefer to go down swinging as well. Whatever these things are, wherever they come from..." Karen paused. "I think I'm definitely going to start looking into it after our campaign. There's just something horribly off about them and I don't mean just their presence or actions." It was hard to describe, but there was simply something off about the ones that Karen had seen. Something horribly off and horribly wrong.

Selene chuckled heartily. "That's the spirit! Sooner you chipper up about our prospects, the better." Dammit but she loved being surrounded by all these weapons of war. Was about as close to home as she could get when not on board a ship. Soon enough they'd be able to give these beauts a proper test run. Stay strong for mama in the meantime. "Just don't get too far ahead of yourself. We got a looooot o' work to do in the meantime, though if we do run into a sea monster or two maybe you can get a head start on yer research, eh?"
It took a second to realize the horrors she had unleashed before she brought her hand to her forehead in mock horror. "Damn, when I'm the responsible one of the group, you know we're all screwed." A solitary snort. "Well, if I've not died from boredom due to having nothing to do in the aftermath of our little adventure, I wouldn't mind seeing just how terrifying those creatures are myself. You're gonna need someone to lug the corpses back to civilization, right?"

"Ha! Maybe so." Though come to think of it, she hadn't heard of any sea-based Monster that seemed to fit in the researchers' growing list of abominations. Perhaps one just simply hadn't been discovered yet though. In truth, Karen still wished to not be running into one, even if it would be one hell of a run in.
"Well, if I've not died from boredom due to having nothing to do in the aftermath of our little adventure, I wouldn't mind seeing just how terrifying those creatures are myself. You're gonna need someone to lug the corpses back to civilization, right?"
Karen chuckled a bit. "I suppose I will." Dissection wasn't necessarily something she had in mind, but that could prove useful too. Not to mention finding out if the Mages could make heads or tails of whatever seemed to animate the undead ones or what could create such massive beasts like the Baels. And perhaps if she could figure out what kept holy Etruria safe, then she could try to get the inventor-types to come up with something to help other nations.
Well, it was all just guesswork and pretty far in the future for the moment.
"I guess you'd really get a test out of those cannons with a sea serpent though, either way."

"Sea serpents, huh?"
That DID sound kinda interesting. Selene had heard rumors of them, of course. Most sailors had, navy, merchant, and pirate alike. There were stories of gigantic arrays of tentacles that ripped ships apart and dragged their crew screaming underwater, leviathans that simply battered through ships like a bulls through a china shop, and even tall tales of aquatic dragons that could launch mighty spouts of water with cutting force that could slice through man and ship alike like a sword
She would be lying if she said she wasn't curious to see them... but the admiral didn't take much stock in empty rumors, and so far she had never seen one in her years of experience. That didn't mean they weren't out there - just that if monsters did indeed lurk beneath the waves, they were probably located more in the western reaches of the Isles or beyond, in the vast, endless oceans that no one had ever really explored.
...Selene wondered if taking a vacation from her job to go randomly explore would be taken well by her bosses.
Probably not.
OH WELL.
"Sounds like fun. More fun than the mountain of paperwork and meetings eagerly awaiting my undivided attention for the rest of the day. And week." Selene sighed, slumping a bit as she shook her head. "Sometimes I almost miss being a rank ensign. No one expects you to do paperwork or attend meetings, you just do your job and kill people. Simpler times."
