Lucius emerged from the dark of his home. He liked to keep all outside light out in order to calm him. The desert light was blinding, and he squinted with his good eye. He looked around the site of his eventual kingdom. "I will make something from nothing in this desert. Eventually." He scanned the skies to see a large hawk circling up high above his head. Raising his arm the bird descended landing revealing a letter attached to its leg. The bird was worn from flying from afar and looked ragged. "I see you return Wormwood. What news do you bring me?"
Removing the letter he perused the contents. "Three youths have brought my agent in Ilia down and the seeded cutoff has claimed his life. Damn, I should have known better than to use a useless defect." He let the bird leave and take a rest. He sighed, now he would have to contact his shaman in order to gain a new pawn. "What were the youth's names?" Finding the letter contained no such knowledge he felt a fit of cursing and regained his composure. He quickly burned the letter to rid himself of incriminating evidence.
"No point dwelling on it." He went to work on his latest project, he was in the process of digging a well. He had a supply of water to last several weeks but he would need more. Letting his operations run themselves for the time being everything would come here in its due time and then he'd move and make his mark on history.

The wind was blowing his way today. Or so he considered, at the very least as the hair blew against his hair. He had great plans for this patch of desert, if he could ever manage to carve out a army for himself along with successfully using the said army to drag someone out to fight him. The sands were a treacherous way of fighting, but they were probably also the smartest.
But his trail of thought and ambition as cut off by noticing a hut, along with a man. Balerion could use some rest, and as long as the man was not insane nor someone who was violent, he was sure he could either discuss resting there for a few hours or killing him and taking his house for his own for the night.

Lucius looked up from his work when he heard the powerful beating of wings. A wyvern! His hand twitched as he watched it fly. He was preparing to kill the beast when he realized his axe was inside and there was a rider. Reluctantly he resolved himself to hold off on the killing and speak with the rider. He waved the man down from below.
It was odd for another to be here, since it was odd he was there to begin with. "Stranger, what brings you here?" Perhaps he'd heard word of his trades. No, that wasn't it. Lucius glared darkly at the wyvern before allowing a softer expression for the rider. He didn't want to release undue malice. Perhaps this stranger could be useful.

This man. Something about him made Orys feel very, very uncomfortable, and that happened rarely to him. Maybe it was a bad idea to stop here, but he couldn't just get up and fly away again. Balerion was already tired enough, and if they would leave now his trusty wyvern could possibly simply grow too tired to fly at all. So he simply took his spear to his hand, furrowing his brows.
"Just need some food and rest. Been flying for a few days without many stops." Balerion snarled a bit, snapping his jaws as he stared at the man.

Lucius instinctively jumped back from the beast. "Keep it on a leash and you can rest here for now." Lucius slicked his hair back with his hands. It was hot enough without getting worked up. He shook his head and turned around.
"Inside my hut I have water as well as food. If you stay long enough then perhaps we can chat a bit." Lucius was battling his desires to grab the axe and start swinging but now was not a good time to start.
If it was possible Lucius could play the man into his hand. He could be useful. Perhaps use the logic of letting one go to lure in many others. If not he could wait until his guard was lowered and dispose of him. "But if you are in a hurry then you may take one keg of drink and one package of food."
For all his hatred and war mongering Lucius was a generous man. He was once kind and caring. A good father even, but dragons took all of this from him. Turned people against him and stole his eye and finger. That debt would be repaid in blood. But not this mans blood if he was useful.

"Mrhng..." Orys examined the man again, scanning him. He felt no trust for this man. Something about him radiated the sense that he could snap at any moment and simply try and kill him... Or Balerion. Although he needed food, he was sure he and Balerion could at the very least last until they'd reach someone a bit more trustworthy.
"We're in no hurry... But I think we can actually manage without raiding your storage yet." He grunted, simply leaning against the now lying down Balerion, still keeping his spear near.

"Very well. You can take some time to rest then." Lucius picked up his shovel again and went back to the well in the making. He dug deeper and deeper the sand was easy at first but now he had struck solid ground and the task was harder.
He looked up at the man a moment to see what he was doing. If he stayed there would be no quarrel yet. If he was leaving he would have to take action. He sighed, and sat down. He found himself thinking about the past few years.
I don't have to kill them. It's not the wyverns that destroyed everything. It was those dragons. The ones that hide away and only show their cowardly faces when they feel it's advantageous to them. No, if this man wouldn't be an ally he'd have to do it regardless. He couldn't risk unsavory folks coming here.
"I'm going inside a moment," Lucius stood and walked to his hut. "Come inside a moment if you would."

Orys furrowed his brow as the man invited him to come inside. He didn't feel good about this, not at all. "Alright." He proceeded to tighten the hold on his spear, keeping it ready and near himself as he then patted Balerion on the neck, motioning for him to get up and follow. The wyvern let out something akin to a lazy yawn before rising up and taking awkward steps behind Orys.
Orys stopped in front of the door, keeping his spear ready as he then just stood there, waiting.

Lucius lit his lamp and set it on the table illuminating the hut. There were papers strewn all around. On the table held down by a knife was a map of the continent. With dotted lines all around. All the paths converged in Nabata and many roads led to ilia and Bern.
In a corner a disgruntled hawk squawked. "Excuse the mess." Now that the wyvern was out of sight he sat down in a chair and relaxed his shoulders slumping before a sharp pain urged him to sit straight again. Immediately he was able to think clearly again and be civilized. "I have tea," the urge to kill was gone.
"I'll be honest with you, wyverns put me a bit on edge. If you wouldn't mind it would be mutually beneficial to keep em out of my sight. It... Sets me off I suppose you could say." He poured two glasses of tea and sipped from his.
The chairs were wooden, roughly built but sanded down to smoothness. Something you'd see from an amateur carpenter.

Orys simply leaned himself against the door, keeping his spear ready. "I think I'm fine with staying here, thank you very much." His eyebrows furrowed more at the man. He seemed to have calmed down quick... Too quick. He was clearly planning something. Maybe try and kill him and take Balerion? Or just take all of his equipment. He simply shook his head, leaning against the doorframe.
Balerion let out a grunt, simply leaning himself against the hut wall, closing his eyes lazily.

Lucius chuckled to himself. He could tell the man was uncomfortable around him. He felt it to be a good thing, it was proof of his dominance of power over the man. He was the Lion and the man a zebra. "So, tell me. What is your name? I don't believe you've spoken it yet. Nor have I given my own for that matter. Lucius at your service."
Lucius leaned forward examining his documents and taking a sip of tea. "Tell me as well... why it is you dislike me? I'm not a sensitive man so I will not be hurt." He picked up another map, it was distinctively older than the one on the table. It revealed some older lays of the land. Back before borders were as well defined as the ones today.

"Orys. Orys Durrandon, a name you should learn to fear. And I dislike you for many reasons, one of them being the sort of aura that you emit. I know for a certain that if I take one step into your little hut, you'll pick up your axe and try to slam it right between my eyes." Orys proceeded to spit on the ground, grabbing his spear tight.
"Balerion."
The dragon quickly rose, snarling as he proceeded to slam himself against the wall a few times before bursting trough it, staring at the man. "We can do this a few ways. Kill you and take all your food and water. Or leave you alive and only take a half of it, with me repaying it once I become a ruler."

So the zebra would fight back eh? Lucius grinned madly. "You aren't as dull as I had thought. My apologies for insulting you." He through his chair out at Orys to create an obstacle and do harm even. "But you made a mistake." He laughed. "Here I was trying my damnedest not to kill you! But you ask me for it." He laughed wildly as he grabbed his axe and rested it onto his shoulder.
"I offered you food and water and now you spit in my face. Oh, I will love this!" How dare this man. Lucius had been kind to him and now the man wanted more. And to be violent to get it. He destroyed his home's wall bringing in a vile creature he had actually tried to spare.
"You bastard!" He shouted charging Orys. He was fast and they had already been close. It wouldn't be hard to get the upper hand here.

Orys furrowed his brows as the man moaned on and on about things that really should not matter. And then he suddenly charged after calling him a bastard. Oh, Orys would need to teach this one a lesson. He barely managed to block the strike from the axe with his spear, grunting as he tried to keep the man back, the blade of the axe almost scrapping his face multiple times.
"Balerion!"
The wyvern snarled and roared as it suddenly charge forwards with jaws agape, trying to bite down on the side of Lucius.

In battle Lucius had always been a wild fighter. He was quick and powerful often showing no restraint in a fight. It cost him the aid of a healer in the past but that option would not be afforded him this time. It didn't matter though he had fought at least a dozen other wyvern riders and emerged victorious and this fight would most certainly end the same.
He could see it. The man struggled to defend. Oh yes, the desperate battle was beginning. His blade merely centimeters from cutting deep with each pounding swing. It was joyous. The thrill of taking down his enemy. He would see the life leave his eyes. "Uweeeee he he he!!!" His laughter had become deranged. His every pulse, he could feel it flow through his body.
He admitted that this rider was skilled compared to the others he'd slaughtered previously. He successfully blocked a number of strikes. But he was close, he'd never hit him with a lance from there.
Suddenly the wyvern came charging at him jaws wide. Lucius shoved Orys back and rolled beneath the beast narrowly escaping death. It was a tight spot to be in but the beast'a underbelly was exposed. He prepared to deliver a splitting blow.
