I'm in favor of some minor buffs for the Physical classes. I don't think Fire Emblem is an inappropriate place for it, consider the Scouring. Those heroes were clearly of a different stock in terms of ability, and I think that's the common "Magic has left the world" idea. So what if we decided to some fashion that every human's connected to magic. (Dragons too, but they have the whole scales and wings thing) Magic classes channel inner magic externally, changing the world around them. Physical classes do their work inside the body, changing themselves.
Whatever the change is, we don't even need it to be in battle. Maybe every few posts, as some little NPCs struggle to carry some stones, or something like that, your character stops by and by way of magic, can help some people out. I wouldn't want a huge change, hell for Selibas I probably wouldn't even use it unless he was fighting a PC magic user. I agree though that auras and perception are traits a lot of fantasy characters possess, so stuff like that seems more our speed.
As usual with stuff like this, I'm leaning on one side of the fence, but for now I'll throw my hat in for the powers.

I have always treated fighters here similar to D&D characters. The FE 7&8 animations were over the top and silly, and we all know it. Remember the Fighter's attack animation? Yep. That's some physics. It's called 'Gameplay and Story Segregation', and we all know it. They wanted the attacks to look cool and dynamic, even if they wouldn't be quite that simple in the 'world'. Suspension of disbelief, and all that. It is one of the many reasons I preferred Awakening. I felt that the more realistic criticals actually kept the change from realism to fantasy from being too jarring. When I write a combat post, I think of what a moderately leveled D&D character would be capable of. I try to keep it as realistic as possible, and some of us tend to enjoy that kind of 'low power' fighting. We have our wits and our skills to tilt the balance, and I would not be opposed to seeing some nifty tricks for melee only classes, but I don't think they will ever be changing battlefields like a mage can. Nor do I think they should. Also, I am against adding more regimented and required things because it limits RP. Would anyone raise a question if Wyatt smashed a reinforced wooden door open with his shoulder? Being that he's nearly 500 posts of pure muscle, probably not. But if I don't have the 'skill' to do this, my roleplaying is restricted because of a gameplay reason. If Rogus makes a cunning and clever escape through a third story window of a chapel, and the guy chasing him just dead jumps it, how annoyed do you think he would feel? Structure and such is not that simple. If you add rules somewhere, you are restricting a freedom somewhere else. Sometimes it is needed, like keeping people from being able to loot whatever they want, but I don't think this is such a case. Now, this isn't to say that skills have no place here. I think they would be best used to signify specific and dedicated training in something like a 'lost art'. Something that there is no precedent for because no other RP way could duplicate it. As an example, perhaps a skill that someone gains from training heavily against magic, once per topic they can treat their weapon as Regal. I do like the idea of making them, like mines and light runes, limited use per topic. Powerful enough to be special, but not spammable.

The story produced some OP swordsmen that would be god moding here. Hell, in a sense their magic is equally nasty if not worse, based on rumors.
On WotW it would take somebody close to Richter's level with a magic weapon to come close to achieving something similar to that. What we're trying to do is make melee fighters able to be stronger without relying on magic to be on par with a caster. Both Kenshin and Richter are well known fighters in our universe, against someone of equal skill in melee combat it can go either way. Now pit them against a caster, they would have to fight a much weaker person if they want a chance to win. Heck, even Elias can give Richter a run for his money with the way things stand now.

Then perhaps a nerfing of the power versus skill of magic should be taking into account. For example, I could have Synkkis summon a flurry of Flux tendrils, but they'd do not much beyond slap people around a little bit and hamper their movement.
I'd rather WotW keep it a bit closer to realistic combat and not go towards the whole "after-image" business of DBZ crazy fighting skill to our Champions with the combat experience to back it up.
But speaking of the Radiant Dawn skills, I may be behind it. We could pick and choose what'd serve our purposes here and add good descriptions to them to allow people have that diversity. For example, I'd rather not summon a flurry of flux tendrils because that takes away from what Flux is designed to do whereas Excalibur makes more sense for that style of attack.
