It was finally time. After what he went through recently, and everything overall, it was time to go and see someone. A man that hit him whenever he messed up, a man who took away the only thing he truly cared about in the world. A man that rarely ever showed any kind of emotion, just sitting there cold and calculating. A man. . .he called, Father.
The forest was so serene, if only they could feel the tension radiating from him. It wouldn't be so peaceful then. Even after what he went through with failing his jobs, the overwhelming emotions he felt from those combined with the stress and fear from being on the island and in the sea, could not even hope to compare with what he'd felt now. He just wanted to sit down and. . . cry? Scream? Give up? They just blurred together for him, but this wasn't the time for it. If he had given up on he island then he wouldn't be here now, and now was as good of a time as any to go to his father. If he had actually improved as he thought now was the PERFECT time. Hopefully he never had to see his father again after this.

As Kyle kept completely silent moving down what would be barely considered a path, he stopped as he heard rustling in the thick leafy undergrowth that nearly blocked all view away from the jagged path. He paused readying himself in case whatever was there was violent. Violent was EXACTLY what he needed right now. At least anger was easier to perceive than sadness or other emotions. SO it was time to get mad at whatever dare attack him.
However, what happened next was amazing. A massive buck stepped out onto the small path. The points on its antlers numbered fourteen and it looked like there was enough meat on the animal to feed a family for months. Truly a stunning beast. Maybe his father would be proud if he brought it back? Kyle slowly reached back for his bow and an arrow, but alas it wasn't slow enough. The beast bounded off into the thick underbrush. Oh well, wait. he shouldn't just give up. Not when he might be able to impress his father for the first time. Not now.
He stalked into the bushes after the massive creature, following it's trail by the occasional footprint, broken twigs, or even the rare antler scratch on a tree. Eventually he came upon a big clearing, and at the center, like out of a storybook or legend, stood the king of the forest. With his bow and arrow ready he took aim, though there were slight rustles in the undergrowth.

"Freedom", shouted Orcleous as he burst from the undergrowth. The mercenary was covered in leaves and dirt. His armor was shaggy and had green stains on it from the leaves he was pushing through. Orcleous was lost, and that was putting it lightly. It was not long since he left the plains and put the City of Heroes behind him. His first order of business was getting new armor. He stopped at a small town and bought the best plate the blacksmith had to offer. The only problem was Orcleous had no idea where he was going from that town. In the end Orcleous ended up in Lycia and in the forest. He had no idea where he was, nor did he have a clue on how to get back to civilization. To put it simple, Orcleous was lost.
As Orcleous came into the clearing he saw a gigantic buck standing in the middle of it. The farm boy was never one for hunting so he had no clue on how to take the animal down, nor did he even have the desire to. He was just happy to enter a clearing for a change. He had been trekking through thick leaves and underbrush for a few days now.

The buck's attention suddenly snapped towards the far end of the clearing to some bushes when out stepped an especially dark skinned person. The sudden intrusion of the person made the buck begin to bound out of the clearing, but it was not fated to survive this day.
Kyle's attention was slightly frayed by the new person, what was a person doing out here of all places?!?! The buck began to flee but the arrow was already trained on it. As it moved Kyle followed it with the tip of his arrow, moving it a bit in front of the buck because it was moving, and he released the arrow.
The arrow flew well, embedding itself deep within the lower neck of the buck. But even though the arrow was buried up to the fetching it still didn't exit from the other side. The buck however still had some fight left in him as he continued to leave the clearing, being a bit less graceful on it's way out. Then again, who could be graceful when they had an arrow stuck in their neck? NO one, that's who.
Since moving after the buck right away might scare it further he had a chance to study the distraction a bit closer. No, no, it couldn't be! What was HE doing here?!? More importantly How had HE gotten here?!? Orc was the second to last person he wanted to see right now, and he was surprised he hit the buck with that pinnacle of failed jobs showing up. Maybe if he ignored him he would just go away, heck, he was more willing to chance the Buck further than to spend any time with Orc. So he went over to the point that the buck was hit at and noticed a little bit of blood on the ground, time for a game of hide and seek. He moved into the brush a bit searching for broken pieces of the under brush along with tracks and the occasional spot of blood. He couldn't let this thing escape and die lost now could he.

"An arrow", spoke Orcleous with surprise. He had no idea that anyone else was out there. Well that was the skill of a hunter. Taking out targets before they even realize that somebody is there. Still that was a nice shot. They hit the deer while it was running and a neck shot no less. "Somebody got some skills", spoke Orcleous as he watched the deer flee. Suddenly from the shade came another figure. It must be the hunter thought Orcleous as he saw it follow the path of the deer. For a moment Orcleous stared at the figure. There was something about it that seemed familiar. "Kyle", he spoke suddenly as he remembered that huntsman name.
Wow it has been a while thought Orcleous to himself. The last time he saw Kyle was back when he was in Nabata. The two had joined up on that mercenary mission. Orcleous got separated while searching for the horses and ended up having to abandon the whole thing. He wondered how did Kyle fair after he left. The two of them did not get much time to speak though during the mission.
"I guess it is fate", spoke Orcleous as he began to give chase. The mercenary began to hunt down the hunter. Maybe Kyle knew how to get out the forest and if he did catch that mighty buck he would need a hand in getting it back to town. Plus it would be a good chance for the two of them to catch up. Orcleous had not really spoke to him since they took that bandit's head back in Sacae.

Riviera sighed for the third time since she had entered this forest. If only she knew that taking the shortcut would lead her deeper into the forest she would have followed the main road. However, the Etrurian couldn't really hate her decision to enter the forest because the serenity and the beauty forest captivated her heart. Riviera might look tough but she was much softer than she looked. She liked animals, finding them cute and endearing, and plants, having found some interest in botany after attending a class about the subject.
She then remembered the times she had gone hunting with the other nobles before in their hunts, which was more like a game for those men and women. The prey usually had been marked since the beginning and some stewards would then assist by directing it to open place with less trees or natural obstacles. Frankly Riviera didn't enjoy the game at all. She only went to honor the invitation and also to do that boring so-called social interaction. Yes, most nobles often had certain motivation when they attended those hunting games, either to conspire something, to get to someone's good side, or to talk in secret.
Riviera stopped her horse, pulling the reins softly, when a buck came out from the bushes in her opposite direction. It took a moment for the noble lady to notice that it was hit by an arrow due to the distance between them. She narrowed her eyes as she stared at the buck, pitying the poor animal. "Maybe a hunter is nearby," she thought, looking around. Hunting was one of the main source of food for most people living near forest so she wouldn't blame them for killing this buck, as long they wouldn't waste its life. Nothing the female mage could do about this food chain.
Riviera then waited for the hunter.....

Kyle gracefully moved through the forest as though it was an art, spotting the occasional splot of blood, a hove print, a faint sound, or a broken twig, telling him which way he needed to go to collect his kill. Which was rightfully won, by any standards. He couldn't wait to be able to get a better look at it. There would be so much meat on it, food for weeks. The other parts could be used, but they were much trickier for someone traveling so much. His father would probably keep most of it, like he did with all the small game he used to get.
With all of his thoughts on the buck he didn't notice that he was no longer following the trail of the buck. Crap. He frantically looked around for another sign of the trail continuing, but he could see nothing, he would have to backtrack. At that moment he noticed something much worse than losing the buck's trail. Orc. For some reason Orc thought following a person through thick underbrush was a good idea, good thing he was far enough away that he could be lost easily. Kyle moved off to the side of the path and hid, completely motionless as Orc ran past, unaware that Kyle had hidden himself.
After Orc had passed Kyle bagan to retrace his steps until he found the spot there the trail had turned off. There was a little bit more blood than the other spots, as if it had waited for a few seconds before taking off again. What would make it turn instead of making it run in one direction? As he was pondering this he made a mistake and stepped on a dry branch making a loud SNAP. Dangit, hopefully Orc didn't hear it.
After moving a bit quicker along the path, trying to compensate for the noise with speed even though he occasionally made more noise, he felt as though he was getting close. The blood spots were getting bigger and it seemed like there was more stumbling on the Buck's part. It was really impressive that the buck could go this far. Then he spotted it. All of his attention was drawn to it, there it was, dead on the ground, he had brought it down. Even though he had shot it with the intent to get it, and saw the arrow go in he could barely believe that he got it. After years of failures his skills were actually improving. He ran up towards the buck and planting his left heel on it he grabbed the arrow by the fl etching and gave a mighty pull. To no avail, the arrow was firmly in there The Buck had to be at least twice as big as he was. Hopefully no predatory animals smelled the kill before he could clean it and start moving it. With that he drew his knife and spun it in his hand, ready to stab it and start the process. Then he saw it. a girl riding a horse a little bit away. It was obvious she could see him too; And he just froze, eyes wide. How could he have missed that.

"Curse these woods", spoke Orcleous as he tripped his way through the thicket. The farm boy was no good at hunting, nor was he skilled at trekking. During his stay on his family farm most of their meat came to them. Hogs and deer would smell the crops and come to the farm hoping to get a good snack. It was then that Orcleous and his brothers would waylay it or they would set a trap to catch it. Orcleous never had to go into the forest for meat or trek after a hunter trying to find directions outside of the woods. Orcleous sure was lost now. He was sure Kyle was right in front of him, but now he was lost. It was times like this Orcleous wished he knew how to track. If he could track he would have found Kyle by now and would be well on his way outside of the woods, but no Orcleous had to spend all his time and skill fighting or planting stupid seeds into the ground.
"Where oh where could little Kyle had gone, where oh where can he be", song Orcleous as he moved through the woods. The mercenary looked around at the ground trying to read the messages that were there, but he knew not the language. "Where oh where could my little Kyle gone where oh where can he be". Suddenly Orcleous heard a sound. It was the sound of a twig breaking. He was not sure if this was kyle, or a wild animal, but it was something. Something was far better than nothing. Unsure and desperate Orcleous followed the sound. As he moved he heard another, and another. Orcleous moved through the wood at a steady pace. He made sure to make every step and move with caution. He did not want to trip or snag his leg on any braches or rocks. He needed his ears focused on the sound and ever guiding him forward.

The buck died before Riviera could approach it. The Etrurian lady gasped when it fell down and then stopped moving. Poor animal. But this was how the wilds worked. Some animals had to die to ensure the other animals, and also humans, would be able to suffice their needs. She then continued waiting for the hunter. The arrow was the prood that it was a hunter's doing, obviously, carnivores couldn't shoot arrow. Well, if they could, it would be very weird but also frightening.
A rustle! Followed by another sounds. The bushes near the dead buck was shaking!
A man then came out of the bushes and approached the corpse. "Ah, he must be the one who shot the buck," she thought when she saw Kyle. Riviera then directed her horse to go toward the hunter, wondering if he had spotted her as well. It should be hard for him to see her because there were only a few branches and bushes between them. Besides, the extra height from riding the horse should make it easier to see people even in thick forest. He took out some knife and spun it in his hand, probably planning to start his work. Alright......the noblewoman hoped he didn't have to do something that would make her vomit....something like tearing the buck's flesh skin with his knife or something.
"Hello...." she greet him as she approached. Riviera hopped down from the horse to speak with Kyle on the same level, just like how she had been taught. After dismounting from her horse the Etrurian mage walked toward him. Her eyes wandered between the dead buck and the knife in Kyle's hand. Approaching random person in forest was a little dangerous but Riviera was too inexperienced to know that. "Are you from around here?" she asked, smiling.

"Ah, Um. . . Hi?" What was with all of these people out in the middle of the forest? Was the forest to his father's house really that popular a place for people to visit or something. It was quite crazy. He stabbed the knife into the buck, right below the rib cage making a little bit of blood squirt out, and stood up, looking down at the shorter girl. He tried to keep eye contact but his nerves kept making him look elswere. "Uh, Yeah. I'm from around here." This situation was extremely awkward for him, meeting people wasn't his favorite thing and now he was confronted for the second time in the middle of nowhere. His hand instinctively reached up to the back of his neck to scratch at the invisible line that separated the base of his hair."A-are you lost?" He didn't really know what to say to her, she was dressed in fine clothing, something he accustomed to fancy merchants or such. What would someone like that be doing out here? She must be desperate if she was talking to to him. She also seemed a bit pale, hopefully she wasn't sick.
" Uh, I kinda have to get to work with this. . . ." He said trailing off as he crouched back down towards the buck, blocking her view. She probably didn't want to see this. He pulled the knife down the belly area all the way to the end sphincter and for a few seconds after a putrid odor penetrated the air, quickly fading. Gross. He needed to work fast if he wanted to clean it before other predators showed up. It would be horrible if say a bear showed up, or a pack of wolves. It would be nearly impossible to protect them both. Or her at least until she could get away. He could just climb a tree or something; she didn't look like the type to climb trees. She looked more fragile. . .

"Alright I am getting closer", spoke Orcleous, but the words were hollow. The sound had stopped a while back and Orcleous had no idea where he was going. Desperate he followed in the direction where he heard the last sound. The terrain had taken a bit steep on the part were Orcleous was moving so the mercenary had to climb up a rocky hill face to reach the position. As he climbed up the hill he noticed something in the corner of his eye. There seemed to be a little cove in the hill. The ancient looking stones that lay around it told Orcleous that it was not something recently made. It must have been there for quite some time. From what he could tell it was created by the roots of a nearby tree and the power of erosion. At first Orcleous was going to continue on his way, but something caught his attention. There was a stone, one of the ancient looking ones. It had something shinny on it. From Orcleous position it looked as if it could be a piece of sliver. Coin was the life blood of all mercenaries and Orcleous was far too frugal to simply let this go by.
"Alright a free silver", spoke Orcleous as he moved over to the hole. "Come to papa", spoke Orcleous as he grabbed the coin. From the corner of his eye Orcleous saw something. He was not sure at first and naturally after taking the coin he turned and looked. There staring back at him was a skull. The mercenary screamed in horror as he jumped backwards. His heart began to beat in his chest and sweet began to pour down his head. The skull had scared the crap out of Orcleous. The mercenary drew his sword and pointed it at the hole. He waited for the skull to move or for it to moan, but nothing came. After a few moment Orcleous realized that what he was looking at was not alive, nor was it still moving, you have to be careful these days. It was a dead warrior, and a weird one at that. The skeleton was dressed in weird armor that looked as if it was from another land, or at least another time period.
"Man what a discovery", spoke Orcleous to himself. He was not sure why this man's bones were here, but it was a bit of light on a bad situation. Still that made Orcleous wondered. What killed this would be warrior. Was he buried here, or did he come here before he died. Orcleous began to examine the body. He moved a bit closer to get a better look. He wondered if it had some symbol of an army that it belonged to or some sign of where it came from. It was in that moment that Orcleous noticed something besides the warrior. He noticed a blade, but it was not like any blade he had ever seen. It had a weird scabbard and the grip was completely different. Even the guard was not the same. Curiosity once again took over the young mercenary as he reached his hand into the hole. The whole time he thought the bones of the dead warrior would rise up and grab him. Once Orcleous had his hand on the sword he pulled it out as fast as he could. The jerking motion caused the bones of the dead warrior to rattle and for a second Orcleous thought they were going to come after him.
"Oh crap", spoke Orcleous as he placed his hand over his heart. The bones did not move. They stayed scattered on the ground as Orcleous held the weird blade in his hand. After a moment Orcleous calmed down. He regain his composure. He had completely destroyed that guys grave. His bones were scattered about and his sash around his armor ripped. The blade however seemed perfectly fine, or at least the scabbard did. It was not as single scratch on it. inquisitive about the sword Orcleous drew the blade.
"Flawless", spoke Orcleous as he stared at the curved steel. There was not a single scratch on the blade. No rust, no grime, the blade was perfect. Orcleous looked amazed as he looked at the sword. The mercenary saw some words etched into the blade. Thornblade, it read.
"Tornblade huh", spoke Orcleous as he began his quest to find the sound he had heard earlier. As Orcleous walked he examined the sword. He wondered what it was made up of to last this long , and what kind of sword was it. The swoor was nearly 5 feet long almost as tall as he was. "Well I guess I will just have to ask a blacksmith", spoke Orcleous as he walked into a clearing. The mercenary looked up to see Kyle and some woman.
"Kyle", spoke Orcleous with surpise and excitement as he looked upon the man he wanted to see.

This hunter was going to do it! Riviera quickly took out her handkerchief and turned around when he said he was going to "work", covering her nose and mouth with the thin fabric. It wasn't her first time seeing a dead buck but the girl didn't like the smell of blood. Also, the scene was too gross for the pure maiden. "I think so...." she gave late reply to his question about her being lost. The noblewoman actually wasn't so sure about that. Maybe if she continued going straight she would eventually get out of this forest but that was too risky, gambling with her life in this unknown place was something she would never do. "Geez this moron should have waited for me to look away before he cut the buck. This is why I don't like country bumpkins..."
"Kyle!"
Riviera turned her head to the sound and saw another man, probably a friend of the hunter. Maybe they were chasing the buck together? Still shoving the handkerchief to her face, the blonde mage nodded politely to the newcomer. Her ettention then returned to the hunter who was doing....something gross. "I apologize if I am getting the way of your work but I need your help," she said. The girl glanced to her horse as she spoke, "As you can see, my steed is exhausted. If you live here then I suppose you are familiar with the terrain. Would it too much if I ask you to guide me to a good place to rest? Preferably somewhere with river or lake nearby," she said. Riviera actually was pretty annoyed that Kyle had chosen to focus on his hunt rather than properly talking to her. But she needed his help so at least for now she would be a nice girl and treat him with all respect he didn't deserve.
"My name is Riviera Mayfield...." she introduced herself. Her attention then once again switched to the other man, hoping this one would have better decorum than the hunter.

The girl went quiet fora little bit and during that time he heard a distant scream. Maybe Orc found the bear, that would be a funny thing to see. Maybe it was the pack of wolves. As long as it wasn't monsters. He was tired of those, and they probably wouldn't stop at just Orc, they would probably track them down and attack. That probably wouldn't end well, and he preferred to be alive for now, although he didn't always feel that way. . . But now wasn't one of those times. He felt awesome for getting this buck and he still wanted to cook it up. How savory this thing was going to end up later, it was going to be awesome.
He began to cut out the internal organs that would spoil quickly. He started with the digestive system, cutting delicately around the intestines and stomach making sure not to puncture them. That would be gross, so so very very gross. Next he moved to the Buck's neck and cut out the gullet and windpipe above the lungs and set it aside with the intestines and the rest of the digestive track. He then wiped the blood out of the buck. That should be it for now. He needed to get the Liver and heart out soon but he had nothing to carry them in and he'd rather not carry it with his hands.
"Kyle!"
No, no, no, no, NO, NO! WHY? WHY DID HE HAVE TO FIND HIS WAY HERE. WHAT SORT OF DUMB LUCK WAS HE RUNNING ON?!?He could only grit his teeth as Orc came into view. He would yell, or at least complain, but there was that girl over there. He even thought about throwing the intestines at him. That would be funny. He turned his attention back to the girl. " Don't worry, if this doesn't get done fast monsters may come." He had done as much of it as he could here with his unprepared stuff, but it might take a while to get back to his dad's. Would she want to go there? Probably not, but t was the closest place he knew of with a water supply like that. "I know a place. . ." He stood up and grabbed the front two hooves of the buck and hefted the once might creature over his shoulders. It was heave, VERY heavy, heavier than he was. But he didn't want to ask from help, especially not from Orc. And from the girl's reaction earlier, she wouldn't be much help. And with the Bucks' back legs dragging on the ground and it's massive antlers hanging over his shoulders Kyle set off into the brush once more, ignoring Orc, sure the two would follow.

What in the world thought Orcleous as he walked into the clearing. He saw a maiden riding on a horse. She seemed to be looking for Kyles aid as well. From the look of her she was noble stock. If her flawless skin did not give it away the handkerchief thing did. Noble women were weak like that or arrogant. Orcleous could never truly tell. Still it was always better to have your best social graces up once you meet a Nobleman. Nobles were usually the source most jobs which meant they were the life blood of a mercenary. Showing disrespect meant you were cut off from their coin and that was a no no. Still Orcleous had to wonder what was a delicate flower doing out here. As crazy as nobles got at some times they usually don't go galloping in the woods unless there are like thirty other people who entered before them.
"Hello there", spoke Orcleous as he looked up to the maiden on the horse. He placed on is best mercenary smile and tried to make a good impression. "The name is Orcleous", he spoke and when it seemed that Kyle was not going to answer her he decided it would be better if he introduced him as well. "My quite friend over there is Kyle", spoke Orcleous. "He does not usually talk much but he is a alright guy", spoke Orcleous. Now that he mention Kyle not talking he sure did not acknowledge his presence. He seem to be avoiding speaking to him, or at least was super focus on that deer. Without a word for help or in fact a single word to the two of them Kyle began to walk off with the deer over his shoulder.
Such hospitality thought Orcleous to himself. It was a bit strange to him. It was almost as if Kyle was purposely trying to avoid talking to him. Orcleous completely wondered why thought. Him and Kyle should be on good terms. He gave Kyle one of his bounties in the past and they fought together during that expedition in the south, and for some reason Kyle seems to be ignoring him. actually now that he thought about it Kyle was ignoring them both. He did not say anything to the maiden either and she was talking directly too him. Maybe it was because of the hunt. Orcleous knew that hunters sometimes really got into it when they went out. Still it did not excuse him from the simply pleasantries that are normally exchanged. Here they say city people were rude. It seems hunters were just as bad. It was a good thing Orcleous was a farm boy.
"Hey let me give you a hand", spoke Orcleous as he walked up and grabbed the back end of the buck. With one arm he lifted both legs and lighten the load. Kindness was always the root to understanding thought Orcleous in his mind.

Riviera could swear this was the most gross scene she had ever seen. The hunter was simply doing his job so she couldn't really blame him, but Kyle should finish it quickly if he didn't want to get burned alive. She turned her head to look at the opposite direction of Kyle, trying not to look at the hunter and his prey. It might be a little impolite but the girl didn't have any choice if she wanted to avoid throwing up. Riviera wanted to reply to Orcleous' greeting but she couldn't smile or speak clearly with a handkerchief covering her mouth. However, she was truly against removing it because this place was filled with filthy smell of blood and corpse now. After debating with herself for a moment the mage loosened her hold and spoke, "Riviera...Riviera Mayfield. Nice to meet you, sir."
Kyle, the hunter, had said he knew a place that matched her description but he suddenly left without saying anything. Did he want her to follow him? Probably. Maybe he was truly a man of few words like Orcleus had described. Still, Riviera seemed displeased by this. Sure, there was no way a hunter like him would treat her with respect like a true gentleman but judging from the words and the actions he had taken he probably didn't even care about her. The blonde mage sighed as she once again covered her face with handkerchief. "Oh well...I guess I should get used to dealing with people like this. I should have brought some servants or guards with me...." she thought, looking at the two men. Pulling her horse reins, she followed right behind them on foot.
Riviera almost screamed when she almost stepped on some leftover of his work, luckily she managed to calm herself and continued forward. Along the way, the noblewoman tried not to look at the buck they were carrying. Gross. "So...you are friends with Kyle?" she asked Orcleous. She wasn't sure what motivated her to throw that question, though. Well, maybe because so far she hadn't seen anything that hinted them as friends. It was more like Kyle ignoring the mercenary completely.
