Cen remained on his knees as the girl lamented her position. He stared at the grass, and tried not to show any emotion. It wouldn't do to upset her any further. After she finished with an apology to Cen, the squire looked up at her, speaking in a soft tone, "You don't need to apologies to me my lady, I'm just your guard." Cen slowly rose from the ground, using his right hand to push himself off the grass. Cen rubbed the back of his neck.
The squire walked over to her horse, presumably Peanut, and started rubbing the horses neck with his left hand. Cen hummed at a low volume, and the horse seemed to release the tension at being approached by a new human. The boy had always had a talent with horses, they liked him almost instantly. Chances are if the horse didn't like him, he was never going to like that horse. This horse was very pretty, and sturdy by the looks of it. Cen didn't know if he'd ever be able to ride a horse this size however, he was a little too tall.
Cen should get a horse. It would be far too expensive, he'd have to save up a few more months to get his Knighthood. Or years. Probably the years. Still, he loved the beasts, and most knights owned horses. An easy way to get employers to associate Cen with Knights was to get a horse. That's how logic works. "Your horse is very pretty. Is she fast?"

Elaina perked up a bit as Cen handled Peanut. The horse seemed to like him and Elaina turned to a real smile in response. "You may be my guard Sir, but I pray you think yourself human still. Despite what I should believe I am not above you. I want you to think of us as equals, even if you can't act like it. At least when it is just the two of us."
Elaina watched Cen handle Peanut for a moment as Peanut quickly took kindly to him. He must love animals and be a very gentle man. Over the wall in the distance Cen could see a shadow for a split second as it leaped over never even grazing the wall. It resembled a human but it was a bit difficult to tell from this distance.
Elaina walked up next to Cen and patted Peanut as well. "Is HE fast? HE certainly is. The fastest horse we own. The funny thing is he was born and they didn't think he'd make it. But as a foal he was just so cute I couldn't let them put him down. Every day I would come take care of him. For a while the poor thing couldn't even stand. But now, he showed everyone. Put them in their place." It was strange she thought but she really admired Peanut in a way. He gave her a sense of hope. In a way she felt like she could relate. Maybe but he is still just a horse.
In the shadows moved an odd shadow once again before quickly vanishing from view once more. Something odd was happening.

Cen whipped around, drawing his lance from its holster on his back. "Get behind me my lady." His voice grew in its depth and its volume, a call in the voice of a much older man into the darkness. He rushed in front of her. He peered into the darkness for half a minute, squinting into the shadow. He saw something move deep within the recesses of the darkness. He bolted towards them shouting, "ELAINA GET INSIDE!" For a moment he was lost in the shadow from her view, then he rammed his shoulder into some dark figure. The two crashed to the ground together.
Cen growled, and shoved the figures face into the ground, but a pair of powerful hands grabbed him by his shirt and flipped him onto his back. The figure rolled on top of Cen, and the squire punched it hard in the stomach, but it seemed to have no effect, Cen started striking the figure hard in the face, but took a fierce knee to his own gut now. Cen couldn't let that stop him, that's how you get killed. He grabbed a handful of short hair, and kneed the figure in the groin, but not before he took a hard blow to the nose. The figure, which Cen now knew was a man, went limp for a moment, and Cen took the opportunity to reverse their positions, the man groaned right before Cen jammed his forearm into his throat. The man seemed to stop moving. Cen tasted blood, and putting his hand to his face, felt a broken nose dripping his own blood. Cen heaved with each heavy breath as it escaped his lungs, which he now thought were bruised. This man was a better fighter than Cen, but Cen fought hard and smart. It was how you didn't get yourself killed.

"Huh!? What's going on!?" Elaina was startled and confused but Cen seemed to mean business. As he shouted orders at her it was clear things were serious. Quickly as possible Elaina ran to get inside. She stepped and tripped on her own dress falling into the dirt before getting back to her feet and rushing inside.
A maid saw her hysteric run and quickly took her by the shoulders. "Dearest what is wrong?" The elderly woman inquired as she attempted to calm the young woman. She brushed some loose falling hairs out of Elaina's face.
"I don't know exactly! Sir Cen suddenly yelled for me to get inside before leaping over the walls!" Elaina explained.
"Nothing Sir, about that boy." The maid reminded pulling the girl along. "Come, come. We need to take you someplace safer if this is anything serious."
"But what about Cen!? What if he needs help!?" Elaina insisted.
"Girl, you are more important than him. Be happy he is doing his job and sent you inside to be safe. Better he bites it than you!"
Elaina wanted to argue, to scream at the old woman. Despite all her teachings Elaina never believed her life to be more valuable than anyone else's. If anything her's was worth less. What contributions has she made to the world? Sit around and look pretty?

The man fought with Cen ferociously. This was a new guard, this was not like the last one. The woman said it would be an easy kill and pay day. But this one took him by surprise. Still he was stronger and with a good blow or two could win. He thought that before suffering a blow to his manhood. It was crippling. Then the follow up stick to his throat left him clutching and gasping for air. His attention turned to survival and keeping the note detailing his assignment away from this man. He tried to punch back with straight swings to get the man to back off of him so he could stand. Still less air and crippling pain made it near impossible to win.

Cen Punched the man hard, "Who are you?" The man looked up at him through misty eyes. Cen slapped him. "Tell me!" The man spit blood onto Cen's chest. Cen punched the man again, "I just cleaned this shirt last week." Cen pulled the man's face up close to his own, and tried to see if it was one of his pursuers. Didn't seem like it. So Cen dragged the man up by his collar, and brought him towards where his lance had fallen. Cen scooped it up, then threw the man onto the ground. The tall squire pointed the lance's tip at the throat of his assailant.
Cen calmed himself with a long breath. "I need you to tell me who you are." The man stared blankly up at him. Cen looked up at the sky for a few moments. "Is this, are you actually going to be this difficult? I don't need you to... just tell me. Seriously." Cen tightened the grip on his lance. "I have sweaty hands." Cen thought he might have seen a glimmer of fear across the man's face. Good. Cen yawned, and started to sway in his shoulders as he hummed a slow song. He looked back down at the man, who definitely showed fear now. "My arm is tired, and I think I may have hand cramps." The man looked up at Cen. He probably expected the country boy to avoid killing him, but Cen stared him down. The man cleared his throat as if to speak. "Okay, I'll talk."
