Ulai caught the bag of coins as it fell back toward his outstretched hand. The young swordsman sauntered down the road with the confidence of a man who'd just done nothing to earn quite a bit. Did he feel bad? Maybe a little, but then he looked back to the bag of coins, and he simply smiled. He had no room for feeling guilty about something that wasn't really his fault. The people had believed there to be monsters in their town, and he hadn't taken away that belief. If these people chose to believe in things like giant spiders, or frightening wolves, who was Ulai to take that way from them?
So the swordsman wound around a small road that seemed to have no intention of going straight. He had his pack on his back, and his saber on his hip. He yawned softly, it was still early, even if all the birds had stopped chirping. As Ulai stepped into the shade of a tree over the path, he heard voices coming from up ahead. His saunter changing into a cautious walk in the time of two strides. As the road took an abrupt turn to his right, he saw it, a sea of tents and carts, surrounded by people dressed in bright greens, yellows, and oranges. He saw no warriors in their midst, not even a single weapon. He hoped he could just keep his head low, and they'd leave him be with maybe a wave or a few nods. No such luck, a few of these oddly dressed characters began a quick walk towards Ulai, bright smiles on their delicate faces.

Gabe came upon a small market to stock up on supplies for his journey. It was a nice day the wind was blowing children were playing in the square and the markets were busy. After getting his supplies Gabe decided to find a place to stay for the night but on his way to the inn he saw a few people pushing around a defenseless man. Gabe rushed to see what was going on but by the time he got there the group was gone and the man was on the ground bruised and he couldn't get up. Gabe helped the man up asked who he was.

When Durriken had left the caravan that morning, the other Tinkerers had laughed at him. They'd told him he was putting himself in danger, and that if anything went missing, they'd blame him. Durriken cared not. He wanted to see the paved streets of a city, and he'd never spied a building but from afar. So, the young Tinkerer had walked into town with all the confidence in the world. He'd approached stalls in awe of the fruits and meats that peddlers were selling. This world was wonderfully different, and he wanted to take everything in at once. Then the first rock hit the top of his head. He turned, tears in his eyes, and saw a trio of young men about his own age running towards him.
A few others came towards him, and after a minute of taking the beating that followed, the group dispersed. Durriken was helped up by a boy a few years younger than him. "I am Durriken, who are you? My family is in camp out of town. Would you like to follow me? We would love to repay you for helping me." With that he led the boy out of town and back towards his camp.

Back at the Tinkerer Caravan Ulai had been dragged onto the back of a wagon by a brother and sister. They sung a light melody about a cow and a moon, and braided flowers into his hair as they asked him questions between lines of the song. As uncomfortable Ulai was being the center of attention so immediately, it was nice.

It turned out the man Gabe helped was apparently a tinkerer a pacifist the hated violence. The man explained to Gabe that this situation was commonplace as the people hated the tinkerers and constantly hurt them. Appalled by this Gabe asked why they hated them and why didn't the tinkerers move away or even fight back in self defense. The tinkerer said all of this would be explained back at his camp and asked Gabe to come. Naturally Gabe said yes.

When they arrived at the caravan, Durriken turned to his new friend and said, "Here we are Gabriel. Come, sit! I will get you some food." The young man disappeared into the crowd after leading Gabe to a spot next to another stranger. The other stranger was in the middle of having flowers braided into his hair, but he was able to spy the newcomer out of the corner of his eyes. As Ulai looked at the younger man he said, "Um, hello. I'm Ulai. You don't look like you're from around here either. You get commandeered into a meal too?" His head had turned in speaking, and the girl working the flowers through his locks placed her hand on either side and turned it to face forward again. "Sorry," the swordsman muttered under his breath. He stared ahead while he awaited the young man's response.
Suddenly Ulai was aware of something moving on his hip. He tried to look down without turning his head, and saw a tinkerer was untying the sword from where it rested to the belt on his waist. "Hey!" He snarled as he tore his head from the grip of his new beautician. He ripped his saber away from the man who'd attempted to take it. All the tinkers around him winced, and stepped back. The tinkerer was an old man, and Ulai's face grew into an expression of guilt for being too rough. The old man said, "No-one can have weapons here! Not even strangers, I was simply trying to take it to Lyas!" Ulai felt the discomfort from the tinkerers, the music had stopped, and the parents had stepped between Ulai and their children. Ulai shoved the saber into the old man's chest. He sat back down with a thud, and watched as the man cut through the crowd which was slowly returning to their dance. Ulai's eyes contained a great anger, he wouldn't be surprised if the tinkerers had sold his sword by the time the food was ready.

"Excuse me but can you please hand me your bow sir?" Asked the tinker. "We don't allow weapons in the camp." Reluctantly Gabe relinquished his bow and quiver to him. " please return it to me when I leave if that's not an issue." Said Gabe. "Sure." Responded the tinker.
Soon they came across a camp with more tinkers, kids were playing men were working, but the thing Gabe focused on was a man getting his hair braided with flowers. As Gabe approached the man turned to talk to him and introduced himself as Ulai a swordsman had also joined the tinkers for a meal , but the man. Was quickly forced to turn his head back forward so he could get his hair braided which mad Gabe chuckle a little. After the braiding was done Gabe sat down to talk to the man. "So how did you come to be here" asked Gabe "and do you know anything about these tinkers other then the fact that the town hates them?" But before Gabe could get an answer the food was ready and they were asked to come and eat. Gabe was starving and quickly joined the tinkers at the dinner table where they served some of the best food Gabe had ever had. After the dinner was done Gabe tried to talk to the swordsman again.
"So as I was saying before dinner how did you end up here in this camp and why?" asked Gabe hoping the man could ex plane what was going on.

Ulai was surprised to be dragged to dinner a few moments after his weapon was confiscated. He was sat between a young boy and an old man, both tinkerers, and both laughing merrily along with their companions. Six seats down from the man across from Ulai sat the man who'd taken his sword. Ulai didn't take his eyes off him for at least a minute after he sat down, but the man was unconcerned with the Nabatan staring at him. At the head of the long table that everyone sat elbow to elbow against, sat the oldest man Ulai had ever seen. With help from a young girl Ulai had to assume was his granddaughter, the man stood, and wavered for a moment. He cleared his throat, "My friends, today we celebrate the anniversary of our people's greatest triumph. For four hundred years we have waited for the rebirth of Murian the Wise, and if we have to-" The old man coughed furiously for a moment, then the young woman whispered something in his ear, and he shook his head. "So I ask you to drink, for this is the day she first died. I ask you to eat in remembrance of our people's debt to her soul. Eat my friends, and be merry." His toast was met with cheers and applause from all the tinkerers.
Then a mug of a clear alcohol was sat down in front of Ulai. Ulai took a sip, and it tasted almost bitter but somehow like candy. He asked the old man next to him what the drink was and he called it 'Sambuka.' Ulai polished the mug off quickly, and it was filled almost immediately by a young man over his shoulder with a skin of the liqueur. Then a bowl of rice was set in front of him, incredibly small. Too small even. Ulai finished it after a few bites, then he sat and listened as the boy next to him spun a tale of a fish he'd caught. Ulai grinned and encouraged the boy's obvious re-imagining. Then a plate of vegetables was placed in front of Ulai, and he ate a few carrots, then pushed the rest towards the old man who eyed it hungrily.
After the vegetables came the main course, five roasted boars. Ulai took a flank from the boar nearest to him, and devoured it in the span of two minutes. Then Ulai stood and walked from the table to where he'd sat on the cart to await the return of his weapon. The boy from before returned and asked how he came to eat with the tinkerers. "Well, I was just passing by and they shanghai'd me into a meal. I don't know when I'll actually be able to leave. What about you? They grab you off the road too?" [End Thread]
