Story: Balgoth Story begins when he was a boy. Balgoth was born on the night of a red moon. His birth was hard and as a result his mother ended up passing away shortly after he was born. To make things worse Balgoth was born with red eyes a trait that did not belong to his father, nor his mother family. Some people said it was a curse and others saw it as a sign of his mother infidelity. The reason does not matter now as the end result was the same. Balgoth was abandoned as a baby in the woods left to die.
That very night the village he was born in was attacked by bandits. The bandits killed all in the village and burned it to the ground. The fire and smoke attracted the Lycian Black Dogs Calvary who fell upon the bandits and slaughtered them. After the battle with the bandits one of the Calvary men heard the cry of the baby in the woods. Looking upon the child he felt nothing but pity and decided to take the young Balgoth in as his own child. His plans however were put on halt as his family believed the boy to be cures. Through much debate and heated conversation the Rider decided it would be best if he gave Balgoth away.
With pressure from his family and very little options left the Rider was forced to give the boy to his mercenary friend for safe keeping. After giving his friend the boy the Rider left to return home. However while he was on route he was ambushed by bandits and died in the forest. When the news reached his friend he too started to believe that Balgoth was cursed. As a mercenary he could not take that kind of risk in his job. The mercenary put Balgoth in a basket and left him in front of a church and left. He did not even bother to knock on the door.
Balgoth stayed outside of the church for quite some time before he was found by a cleric. By that time the young boy nearly froze to death. Desperate to save his life the cleric kept constant watch over him for three days straight. Once it was decided that Balgoth would not perish she finally went to sleep. This woman was named Dede and she would be the woman Balgoth consider to be his mother.
In the church Balgoth grew up with the other orphans. However his dark skin and crimson eyes made him stand out amongst the other children. This caused him to be piked on by the other Orphans in the church. Eventually rumors started to spread about how Balgoth was a curse child. His crimson eyes and strangely brown skin did not help him. Balgoth ended up not having any friends and was almost pushed into a corner. The only person he could really talk to without having to worry about persecution was Lady Dede, who he called mom.
Dede would consul the young boy and make him feel better, but the picking never stopped. The other children mercilessly attacked him about his appearance and how he was so different. After a while Balgoth could not take anymore of it. Once day he struck out and hit one of the young boys making fun of him. It took only one punch for Balgoth to knock the lad off his feet. It was in that moment that Balgoth realized the pleasure of violence. From that point on Balgoth began to fight all the people who made fun of him. It was during this time that Dede started to heal the children Balgoth injured and would scold him for fighting. The young boy felt bad when Dede scolded him, but that would only last till the other children began to pick on him again. The boy quickly turned back to his violent roots and began to leave them black and blue. This continued for a while till Dede got fed up with Balgoth. Instead of healing the injuries of the children herself she decided it would be better if young Balgoth did it himself. Thus started Balgoth's training as a healer.
Since Balgoth was always in a fight he was always healing somebody. The boy started to become quite skilled in the arts of both healing and brawling. Once he reached his teen age hears however things started to escalate. The children he fought with as boys with their fist were now becoming mercenaries and sell swords. They no longer used their fist to solve their problem. No they resorted to using the blade. It was during this time Balgoth got most of his scars. Mercenaries would swing out at him with their swords and axes trying to kill him and Balgoth defended himself with his staff. The boy grew up tough and with a lack of social graces. Balgoth was blunt to a great fault and would say whatever was on his mind. This caused him no end of trouble, but the young man did not mind.
It was Balgoh's fork tong that got him a job as a tax collector. Once day a member of the government was walking down the street when he saw Balgoth holding his own with two mercenaries. With noting but his fist and a heal staff Balgoth forced them to repay the money they owed him. This seen made the officer recommend Balgoth as a tax collector. Balgoth accepted the letter and as a result became the official tax collector of the Lycian League. As a tax collector Balgoth travel all across Lycia. It was there he saw the suffering of the lycian people at the hands of these monsters. Balgoth was not a man of great empathy, but the fact that his great nation was being pushed around by mindless monsters ticked him off. His emotions boiled over when one day the church he grew up in was attacked by bone walkers.
During the bone walker assault Dede was cut down. The young man did not find out till he realized her monthly letters were not coming. When he returned to his old home he was greeted with scowls and frowns. The first thing he saw when he reached the church was Dede grave which caused Balgoth to collapse to his knees in tears. The young priest then vowed to be rid of all monsters in lycia even if he to do it himself.
