(From here on, I'll be shortening Gaitsu's name to Gai. On another note, I thought it important to mention that the recruits are training with the equivalent of slim spears, the reason why both Kevin and Gai's spears broke so easy last solo)
Gai stood, panting after a particularly hard exercise, spear in hand, waiting for Rodriguez to bark out more orders. As one such order was in the middle of being commanded, Gai was pulled off to the side, with a wave of Kevin's hand.
Handing Gai a cloth to wipe his face, he started talking, "Your stance is still very rigid, your grip loosens after about fifteen minutes of using it, and your movements are still very sloppy." After Gai threw the cloth back at him, he continued, "Your mother is here to see you. She said she has some information for you."
"What could she have to tell me? Wouldn't I learn about an attack before her?" Kevin just shook his head and pointed him to where Gai's mother was waiting. Before entering the door, he propped the spear against the wall. He peeked through the window to see his mother pacing back and forth. He stepped inside, giving her a quick hug and setting her back in a chair. "Mom, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be back at the Inn?"
She shook her head, "Oh, Gaitsu, I just had to see you. When I read that your friend had his hand cut off, I couldn't help but feel dread. You know that you can come home whenever you want to, right? You do know that I don't expect you to be the one to protect us."
"Mom!" Gai laughed, "Whats really on your mind? You never had a problem with me coming out here to train before. You know that I have good reasons to be here. Reasons that both do and do not involve you." He became silent for a moment, then resumed. "I have to become stronger so I can find the ones that killed my real parents."
She was silent as she nodded, "Yes...Everything you do seems centered around your parents. I knew I couldn't replace them, but I had hoped that I could calm your bloodlust. Just promise me that you won't get killed chasing after revenge."
"I can't make any promises. I will find them, and I will fight them. Other than that, only time can tell if I'll be victorious or not." As his mother stifled a sob, he changed the subject. "Kevin said you had some news for me?"
She wiped her tears, and opened her mouth to speak, but no sound came out. Her mouth closed, then opened again, "I found some information about your father. I asked around from the travelers at the Inn, asking about your family, the Lore family, and I found out that the last Lore known in history was Maximilian Lore. He was a very well known merchant who served even the royal families." She closed her eyes. "With the fall of their home, the name was lost." Her eyes opened to a confused look on Gai's face. "Their home was Ostia. When the monsters started pouring forth from there, everyone had to flee in a hurry. I believe that either your father was really Maximilian, or at least a close relative."
Gai was now the one silent. As he stared at the ground, many thoughts ran through his mind. If his father was this Maximilian, then why would he change his name to Barnibas. What would be his reasoning for that, and why would they have lived such a small, insignificant existence. Another thought that passed briefly was, if his parents were from Ostia, should he not be directing his attentions to reclaiming their homeland? Was he even really born in Ilia? "Thank you mother." He looked back at her. "This changes nothing. Ilia is my home, and I will protect it. If it comes to pass that Ilia no longer needs my protection, then I will think about the possibility of helping reclaim Ostia." He hugged his mother again. "I'm sorry, but I have to go and continue my training." He turned to leave, then, turned slightly and said, "I love you mom. Don't ever forget that."
Then, he grabbed his spear, and rushed back to training, renewed vigor, knowing now that his fate required so much more of him than his own goals. [Gaitsu exits solo]
