no kidding, the weapons don't mysteriously deteriorate on their own... that would suck... a lot... and be relatively unrealistic...
and cookies, was that pacifist quote at me? I was referring to the character class monk, which is the wielder of light magic. I either rp as a jerk, or a really nice guy.

Just think if you were to read a book 50 times in a short period of time. Pages get worn, ink might start to smear. Now think of a knife. You use it alot and cut things it gets dull, same thing as a sword. that

You can use up all of the magic in it.

Weapons only rust/lower their uses when you actually use them.
And, for Tomes/Staffs, think about it this way.
You are a magic user. You can channel the power of written words into magic, but only if they are on a specially made book, infused with the power of the element it is.
Now, what will happen when the book's powers wear off ? You are still a mage, but you have no element to use spells with. The book just becomes a normal book, that has spells in them, but there's no medium to use for casting.
For staffs, it would work the same way.

For Staffs and Tomes, it works that way.
For melee weapons, the actually break due to their excesive use.
