Flynn smiled as he watched the children. He absentmindedly petted his horse's neck. Cuddy looked between the three new people, excited to meet new friends. The mercenary shook his head, still smiling, as Remus instructed the children to stay calm. "Ah, don't worry about him," he assured the priest. "He doesn't spook easy. Cuddy here has charged headlong into groups of bandits to aid me in a fight. Fear isn't in this guy's vocabulary, right, buddy?" Flynn said the last bit towards the horse and Cuddy snorted, as if to confirm what his master said.
Cuddy's eyes followed the apple as it was broken and given to the children. The horse looked back and forth between the halves as he waited. When Owain presented his half, he gently ate the half from the boy's outstretched hand. After crunching it down, he looked at Amelia and watched her nibble at it. Flynn could have sworn his horse's eyes were filled with disbelief, as if to say, "Seriously? That's mine, girly." After Amelia held out her half, the horse ate it and kept his head bowed within the reach of the children's little hands. He wanted to be petted. The mercenary shook his head.
"You big, spoiled lug," he said as he laughed. Flynn looked down at the children. "He wants you two to pet him. If that's okay with the good Brother Remus, of course." Flynn looked back to the priest, waiting to see if the man would allow the children to further spoil his steed.

The children had different reactions to the steeds moment in the spotlight. Owain seemed to delight in it, reaching up to pet before stopping to look back and make sure it was okay with Remus if he proceeded. Amelia looked down at her hands and then back up at the horse curiously. More content to examine at first before touching. One of the few areas where Amelia was less energetic than Owain was in the concerns of farm animals. She simply found them less interesting than he had. That wasn't to see she disliked them or was bored; simply hesitant. Remus chuckled whimsically and smiled to both the children as he spoke, giving an enthusiastic nod to grant his permission and encourage it. "I see no reason not to allow such. Please by all means, what ever you approve of them to do let them do. I'm sure they will enjoy the experience."
Even so, Remus was right. The children lifted their hands to pat the horses snout. As they patted it and softly rubbed the horses nose their smiles grew wider. Owain lifted his opposing hand and lightly stroked the side of the horses neck that was exposed from it leaning his head down. Amelia seemed more content to pet just it's snout yet both children tended the horse none the less. Remus smiled looking to the red haired mercenary with a nod and a bit of an approving smile while his gaze lingered on the children. "It's been the first time since they were back at the orphanage that they are able to interact with horses up close. So I thank you, for giving them a little bit of home in this moment. It means more to them; and to me then you may ever know good sir. "

Flynn saw how enthusiastic Owain was around Cuddy. Not even 10 minutes and the kid already loved the horse. He figured he'd let the kids ride his horse at some point during the journey. He figured they wouldn't be able to contain their excitement once they heard that, so the mercenary held his tongue. If hearing the word horse sent them into a frenzy, hearing that they could ride the horse would make them uncontrollable. Flynn didn't want to put that stress on Remus. He smiled as the priest gave consent, "Excellent, sir. Though, one of your charges is a step ahead of us." He gestured to Owain as both children began to stroke Cuddy's neck and snout. The horse was enjoying all the attention he was receiving.
Flynn ran his fingers through his horse's mane subconsciously. He started to think about the journey and how Cuddy would do. He had no doubt that his horse could make it there and back, but the mercenary didn't know how he would do in Laus. Flynn had never ventured there, never had a reason to. Would they be overwhelmed by the monsters and bandits or would the usual battle plan work like always. Flynn kept his worry hidden from his face. No point in making the priest and children afraid before they even began. He smiled again, "It's nothing. I'm glad this is making them so happy. Gives hope for the journey, wouldn't you say?"
Flynn looked skyward. The sun was beginning to set and they had a busy day tomorrow, but he didn't want to pull the children from Cuddy just yet. He stayed quiet once again, leaving the decision up to their guardian.

Remus chuckled a bit at Flynn's observation. It certainly seemed as if Owain had taken ahead of them to the act of petting his horse. Amelia followed but while the children moved their hands to pet the horse that obviously enjoyed it Remus would do naught but smile and chuckle more. He shifted his hands so he was leaning against the wooden support beam of the stable with his staff running parallel to the ground. He looked at them before looking to Flynn with a brief smile. "It certainly does. I confess that they will find it all the more enjoyable with not only your company but your companions. It will give them something to focus on beyond the long walks. Would it be that I could I would invest in a wagon however in my studies I've been informed by multiple sources they attract brigands quite reliably. Even beyond sacae where it would be more tame in Lycia it is a more dangerous endeavor. Even the borders of Santaruz have been combating the trouble. It is mere precaution mind you, but one I'd feel better taking."
While Owain remained fascinated by the horse, simply content to pet it along the snout and side of it's jaw while speaking quietly to it in a tone most spoke to animals; Amelia had shifted slightly from sight and tried her best to stifle the approaching yawn. Try as she might, she could not hide it from Remus. He laughed a bit before leaning forward to call the young girl out on it, kindly; but none the less inform her she had not been as sneaky as she would have claimed. "I saw that little-one. You will need rest soon. You've both had a long day. Spend a few more minutes if you wish but we'll have to return to the inn shortly so you can both get plenty of rest. "
Both children responded with Owain speaking after Amelia, slightly distracted still though trying to hide a yawn even as Amelia had; for the contagious yawns were just that. "Yes Brother Remus." He chuckled again before leaning back against the wooden support beam and smiling. He would still give them some time atleast.

Flynn furrowed his brow. What the priest said was true. Wagons did attract bandits like flies to fruit. That's why traveling merchants needed saving so often. Of course, the usually didn't have armed guards with them, as foolish as that was. He looked down at the children again. Traveling so far on foot was a difficult task for a grown man. Doing so as a child seemed impossible. "I see what you're saying, Brother Remus," the mercenary said, taking his hand from his horse's mane and crossing his arms. "But any large group of people will attract bandits. Lots of noise and the hope for wealth will cause them to flock. But if we had a wagon, your guards could stand watch on all sides and deter any bandits from attacking, as well as provide cover for the children. You know, keep them from seeing what they shouldn't see. It is your choice, though, and carrying enough supplies shouldn't prove difficult either way."
Flynn smiled as he watched the girl yawn and Remus catch the sign of fatigue. They'd be heading to the inn any minute now. He patted his horse's neck as he watched. "Looks like we'll be going soon, buddy," he said to Cuddy. The mercenary heard the horse stamp his hoof, as if to protest them leaving. "Now, don't be like that. You'll being seeing us plenty for the next few weeks. We're going on a big trip, a lot longer than the ones back when we were with everyone else in Sacae. Get your rest, alright?" Cuddy whinnied softly, still keeping his head bowed for stroking.

Remus nodded as he saw the red haired mercenary speak to his horse. Though the horse feared his pampering would end Remus knew he had a few more moments yet. SO he lingered and let the children enjoy themselves. It was the least he could do to them having to enjoy it at times. Amelia however had seemingly decided the sleep overcoming her natural rambunctious attitude with a slight cloud of fatigue. It filled the girl's mind before she soon yawned once more. Releasing the horse from her tiny frail grip of pets and hugs she made her way to Remus to stand next to him. It was Owain that was going to take up every ounce to remove as he continued to pet and coddle the animal. Remus gave him a few moments now still however even as the energetic of the two walked to his side. It was all he could do to prevent a chuckle by ruffling Amelia's hair and Owain's respectively. Remus spoke out as he tried to tug Owain back; who insisted upon gently petting the horse further.
Remus tugged at the lad until he got the idea and slowly moved to the priests side. Remus looked at the man see him still speaking to his horse. However Remus tilted his head before smiling with the two children standing near him, Amelia the black haired girl not only standing near him but flat out leaning upon him sleepily. A burning sensation filled her vission as the tiny girl as she mumbled of her sleepiness to Remus. Remus chuckled even while he smiled"It certainly seems like we need to get you two to bed. Come now, we should be getting plenty of rest so we may prepare for tomorrow morning, yes children?" He looked to Flyyn with a smile as he examined the horse one last time for the night. "I realize I've no need to thank you as per your own statement that you'd wish me not too...however I must again thank you. For two children you've made the impossible, happen. You've made a daunting task seem almost welcoming. "

Flynn watched as the children were soon tugged away from Cuddy. The horse blew a disappointed puff of air, clearly not ready for them to leave just yet. "Hush you," the Sacane whispered as he ran his fingers through the horse's mane again. He still felt dread in his gut for what could happen to his beloved horse. The mercenary steeled himself. Cuddy would not die in Laus, not if he could help it. His horse was tough and smart. He would make it, just like Flynn would make sure Remus and the children made it. No death would befall their group, only victory and a successful journey. A smile found it's way onto his face once again as he watched Remus tell the little ones it was time to sleep.
Flynn nodded, his expressing turning into one of confidence. "That's my job, sir. Bring hope to the hopeless and defense to the defenseless. The easier the job seems, the easier it is to take the first step and the many steps after it," the mercenary said. He looked down at the children again. "If it brings happiness to them and gives them peace after their last harrowing experience, I am happy to help." The priest's kind words were encouraging to the Sacaen. He felt ready to take on whatever bandits and monsters this quest threw at him, just for the sake of seeing the pure joy on those two kids' faces. The mercenary felt himself yawn. All this talk of a death quest was making him tired, especially after a long day of riding just to get to this town. "I can help you get them back to your room if you need it," Flynn offered.

Remus paused for a moment. He looked down to the sleepy children that were within each hand, as he held them to him a bit with his hands resting upon their heads. However while he thought he realized both were now resigning to their tired natures as both shortly one after the other shifted their heads to let his hands fall before tugging at and leaning sleepily against them. This was something he was used to personally; as they did this often. He curled his fingers a bit to lightly brush his knuckles to the kids cheeks with a soft smile. They had been his traveling companions, and honestly his singular purpose in life where he would have lost all of it. He would provide them the greatest future possible if it was within his means or grasp. He chuckled before looking up to the red haired Mercenary with a nod and a smile. "I think it would be most appreciated. Thank you good sir. We are not too far from the tavern where you found me. Infact we are but the street across."
Remus turned to guide the children slowly away from the horse. Though Amelia leaned sleepily against Remus'es arm, Owain looked back to sleepily wave good bye at the horse as he spoke in a sleepy tone. "Good night Cuddy." Remus laughed softly and guided the child to walk straight, realizing that walking backwards as he was would lead him to stumble backwards most likely. Remus paused as they reached the edge of the stable and looked to the Mercenary, deciding they'd wait before advancing since he was most likely going to have to ensure his horse was seen to before accompanying them as their escort. "The Innkeep was truly a nice man to allow us to stay for such a low price. "

Flynn gave his horse one last pat on the neck before walking over to Remus and the children. The kids were leaning on the priest pretty heavily, making Flynn chuckle a bit. They were pretty tired, by the looks of it. He hoped that they wouldn't make it too hard for the priest to walk them back. He watched the priest say goodnight to Cuddy, nodding as Remus complimented the innkeeper. "He certainly is. It's comforting to see acts of kindness done by people. Reminds you that the world isn't full of just bandits. That there are still people who are willing to help those in need and with good causes, even if it costs them some pay." Flynn smiled as he finished, adjusting the scabbard on his back as he did. He waved his hand in a "let's move" motion. "I'd reckon it's time we get inside. Any longer out here and I'll be a red headed icicle." The mercenary laughed at his joke as he started towards the inn.
Flynn stretched his arms above his head as he walked, attempting to stay loose in the cold. The jacket he wore over his usual clothes did little in terms of warmth in the darkening Ilian town. The rest of his clothing were rather thin, providing no warmth there. "How do these people survive here?" he said. "It's so cold! Do Ilians just have a coat of fur underneath their clothing or something?" The mercenary rubbed his upper arms with his hands, attempting to generate heat.

Remus chuckled a bit while he smiled warmly. He nodded in agreement to Flynn's statement before commenting more in quiet thought than allowed. "Something I fear Etruria forgets. I wish these small moments would happen enough to remind them...before it's too late." Remus laughed quietly moment later as the red haired mercenary made his joke. The young priest smiled warmly nodding while he made his way to the side of the path through the town so that the children were less likely to bump into anyone. It was obvious through well practiced motions this was not the first time he had walked with sleepy children upon his presence. He turned to gaze down the road as Flynn commented on the coldness of Ilia. Indeed, it was certainly far colder than anything he had felt in Etruria. Luckily the children were draped in heavy brown traveling cloaks he had purchased that were specifically designed to preserve heat. The Priest had two layers upon due to his priests robes. There was the under garments, then the actual priest robes. While the colors did not serve to trap heat, they were still proficient at maintaining warmth enough so that he did not shiver much.
Remus lifted his scarf a bit to shield his mouth as he spoke in response to the man's question. "I fear they may have simply grown accustomed to the cold over the years. I do not believe I could do so comfortably. It is far too consistently cold. In the spring and fall in Etruria you could comfortably doze outside with no fear of freezing. Not so here, and that honestly saddens me. That people live in such a hard cold place where the weather seldom relents. It amazes me, honestly. "

Flynn nodded solemnly in response. Kindness was a rare occurance these days. Most people did what they could do to get by and conflict was riddled throughout the entire continent. Bandits, wars, sieges, almost every kind of way that swords could cross on the field of battle was happening. It was a little depressing, to be honest. "It's a harsh world," the mercenary commented. "Everyone's just trying to live to the next day with some coin in their pocket. But every once in a while, you'll find a person who will go out of their way to help those around them. Even if it's to their loss. The world certainly needs more people like that. Something nicer for children like them," he gestured to the kids leaning against Remus, "a kinder world to grow up in. No more bandits or senseless killing." Flynn wondered if that sounded strange. He, after all, did make his living off of strife and found he enjoyed the thrill of battle. But his line of work was for good causes, that he saw to. The mercenary refused to work for those with evil intentions and he planned to keep it that way. He wanted to help make the world he just spoke about, even if it took a blade to do it.
"What a bunch of loons," the Sacaen replied, wrapping his scarf tighter around his face. "No wonder there are so many mercenary hot spots and supply stores. They can't do anything else!" He finished with a shiver as they reached the door. Flynn grabbed the handle and swung it open for Remus to walk through.

Remus couldn't have agreed more with the red-haired Mercenary. It would indeed have been wondrous to provide a world such as that for the children. He couldn't yet, but he would work at it to his best to do such. Shaggy blue hair jostled in the wind as the priest tucked the children slightly infront of him and ahead. It was an act similar to a bird folding their wings over the chick's to shield them from otherwise buffering winds. The priest was lucky that he himself was far better protected from the frigid climate and currents of Ilia. A desolate place at times, it surely seemed. Remus couldn't help but wonder how long it taken the people of shift to that more decisive lifestyle commonly associated with today. Even the primarily frozen wasteland of Ilia held curious appeal to the priest. A budding hobby as a historian surely awaited him as his interests further developed to lingering thoughts of the sociological developments through out elibe.
Remus walked the children to the door, as Flynn opened it. The priest had been willing to open it; yet the kind act of the mercenary beat him to such. Remus inclined his head curtly as he smiled to the man before guiding the tired children inside with a nod to him. "Thank you sir."
As they entered the inn, Remus looked for the inn keep. He walked along, somewhat slowly to the clinging children at his sides before he smiled to the man nodding. He spoke curiously to the heavy-set balding man. "Is it possible to have two extra blankets sent up to our room? For the children." The man gazed down at them with a chuckle before lifting a meaty arm to scratch over his ample gut in thought. He nodded after a brief moment of what seemed to be counting mouthed breathlessly to double check he had enough left. The man spoke in a gruff tone that belittled his kindness towards the children. " Aye, I think I can spare some. I'll have one of the staff bring em' on up to yer room. " Remus smiled appreciatively before nodding towards the man and turning to look to Flynn. "Would you wish to speak further? I can guarantee the children will be fast asleep the moment they fall to the beds. However if you feel you must depart I shall meet up with you in the morning good sir."

Flynn felt worry begin to creep back into his mind. He worried for a lot of things. He worried for the saftey of Remus and the children. He worried for his horse. He worried for his parents, should he die on this journey. He didn't want them to think he had left because he'd hated them or any other negative reason. The mervenary didn't know if they could take having their son run off, worry for him day after day, then find out he was dead. It would be too much in such a short amount of time.
Which is why Flynn resolved to not die. He would survive this job. He would conquer this job. No one or thing was killing him, his horse, his fellow mercenaries, Remus, or the children. Flynn wouldn't stop going until it was over and he and everyone else was out of Laus, alive and well. He smirked confidently as his courage grew and swallowed his worry.
Flynn nodded his head in appreciation. "You're welcome, sir." He yawned again as he entered behind the priest. He really was quite tired. Something about the cold must really slow him down. Maybe the early arriving darkness. A lot of factors added to the mercenary's fatigue. He watched Remus ask for more blankets, then turn back to face him. Flynn thought for a moment, then hesitantly shook his head. "I don't believe so," he said uncertainly. "I think our business is done for the night, unless there is something you need to discuss with me."

With two sleeping children leaning against Remus, he looked to the window for a moment. The darkened Ilian sky belittled that it was a bit earlier; however as he had learned in Ilia that the days were shorter than that of Etruria. He stretched after a moment, hands extending upwards before lowering with his wooden staff tapped to the ground for a moment as he nodded to the red haired man. Remus knew that the upcoming day would hold no small number of tasks. There was preparations that needed to take place, in the next morning. They'd need to obtain a wagon, an effective set of maps for Sacae, Lycia, and an actual map of Elibe. He also knew they'd need provisions for food and what not. Remus looked down patting the two sleepy children as he slowly guided them to the stairs. However upon reaching it he briefly knelt to whisper to them that they would need to walk up the stairs. The children obliged this and slowly gripped either railing sleepily walking up while Remus turned back to Flynn with a smile, waving to him after a moment.
"In that case, I wish you a bountiful rest good sir, and We shall see you in the morning yes? I'll be returning to the tavern in the morning to fetch the children breakfast before we make plans to acquire the provisions for the morning. I hope to see you then."
With a wave and a smile the blue haired priest turned to walk up the stairs slowly. His robes trailed behind him a bit but he moved in long strides to follow the children, hands brushing the back of their heads as he guided them to bed. Tomorrow would certainly be interesting. Then they would have their preparations and be ready to depart.
