Ilheod was separated from his unit once again, however this time it was not upon rigorous situations or strained scouting operations. Combat had taken such an intense toll on his unit the past few weeks that he was beginning to realize even a unit as close as family needed not only some time apart; but some rest and relaxation. The tension within the unit had almost grown palpable prior. Long flights with little rest along made everyone tense. Add to it the severity of multiple incursions with bandits or brigands? Ilheod was partially amazed things hadn't started to degrade sooner. Yet he couldn't complain, as the call to rest had reached even him.
In his time as a wyvern captain of Bern, before the rebellion severed communications and his unit had taken the defense of a portion of bern unto themselves; he had toured various locations. There was the battles in Lycia during the war of aggression. Unfortunately his unit had been commanded into the aggressive parties advances. He remembered the battles with a ghostly reflection on his consciousness. The particular spot he looked for, had been a bit of a memory established afterwords however. In Santaruz. Astraeus carried him upon currents and through the skies with excellent haste, the captain's eyes scanning the ground for the precise mark. He couldn't even be sure it hadn't been removed.
They had been about half an hour's flight into Santaruz when he saw it. The hill side with the two tree's perched atop it. A spot where he had taken time to visit on more than one occasion. Ilheod eased Astraeus into a steady landing, as the massive wyvern tucked in it's wings with it's rider sliding off the saddle and landing onto the ground with a solid impact. Slipping his spear from the saddle, the man slowly walked to the larger of the two tree's standing side by side. Extending the spear a bit he carves a line into the wood; bark etching to reveal a third scratch above two others. He looked to it quietly, before flipping is silver spear to stab the tip into the ground. Removing his helmet, the captain placed it on the ground next to him while he sat down on the ground leaning to the tree. Under it's shadow, in the cool day he felt an ease of comfort wash away the ache of limbs weary from combat.
He didn't fall asleep, but he did feel at much greater easy. Extending one hand, he patted at the grassy hillside next to him while whistling slightly to his wyvern. Astareus lifted his head to look towards his captain before slowly walking over and stretching out into the grass before him like a great canine. The Wyvern eventually eased onto it's stomach with his limbs tucked in at the sides like how a hound was associated with before curving his tail a bit and leaning onto his right side. There the captain rested with his partner, content to know no distractions would reach them in their time of rest.

It was nice to finally be at ease. There was no way that Bern was going to expend so many resources just to catch one runaway Wyvern Rider. She had to be cautious though, just in case she ever need to go back. It wasn't like she could return to her grandfather, she had disgraced him enough by abandoning the army. She was fearful, her concern stemming from what to do next. Arman was with her though and the two of them should be able to handle themselves if they were careful.
The most dire of issues however was right in front of her, moving on its little legs stocky legs with its butt feathers held high. The both of them was absolutely starving and not wanting to dig into their emergency food supply, she hoped to catch their meal for tonight. She held out her left index and middle finger, indicating for them to move forward. The amethyst colored wyvern did as commanded, hovering over her hand. It then proceeded to ruin the mood by gently placing its mouth over her gloved fingers and progress to drool all over it.
At this point, Zerene could feel the anger rushing to her head, but she held her tongue in fear of alerting the turkey. Ignoring her partner's invitation to play, she moved as quietly as possible to sneak up on the bird from behind. When she felt she was within range to strike, the wyvern dashed forward in front of her. All in all, the duo terrified the bird and it proceeded to run for its life. Even with its bird brain, it knew not to fight a wyvern. She cursed under her breath, tailing the two from behind.
Soon they were running around in the open and in circles. It was certainly a workout for the young girl and she thanked her training in giving her the stamina she had now. It wasn't until Arman dived grabbed the turkey with his mouth did she finally get a breather.
"Great Arman, we got dinner, now just open your mouth," she wheezed, trying to catch her breath. The giant overgrown lizard looked at her, but refused to follow the simple command. Instead, it tried to swallow more of the dead turkey. She quickly reached out, dropping her lance, and grabbed the thing's legs.
"Come on Arman, that was dinner for both of us! Don't be greedy, we've been working for hours," she pleaded, only to be thrashed about like a doll. He was only playing around though. Soon she was swung over, lost her grip and fell down on the ground on her back, looking up to a brown haired man in armor. She jumped out of her skin and quickly got onto her feet before backing up. When she noticed the other wyvern her face paled in fear. She was careful to not take her eyes away from a possible enemy. All the while, Arman ran over with the turkey in mouth and feathers gracing his jaws almost excitedly at the prospect of new friends.

The brown haired captain rested with his back to the tree. The slight breezes that caught his notice helped lull him into a false sense of rest. Though he took caution not to fall asleep, he realized that it would have been so easy to drift into a simple nap. Espeically with the cool breeze brushing at him and the warmth of the slight sunlight hitting him from the angle he was at while within his armor. The rhythmic deep inhales of his wyvern companion told him that Astraeus was already well on his way to such a slumber. Though the wyvern stirring slightly told him something was amiss. Then after a moment, /he/ picked it up. A single emerald eye cracked open. Ilheod's brown bangs blocked his second eye, the alternately colored red one; his gaze lingering in the direction of the sound.
A girl and her wyvern? He seemed to have a knack for encountering kindred souls of trade in the past few weeks. Though he couldn't help but feel a slight curiosity as to her actions the Bern captain closed his eyes once more. Astraeus though still laying upon his side tilted his head. The large wyvern gazed in the direction of the pair now seeming to be contending over some sort of food. A wild bird? Some form of game to say the least. It seemed she had yet to learn the valuable importance behind not letting one's wyvern obtain their food. It was no longer /your/ food at that point. She tried though. Dangling as she was only to be tumbled. Though her Wyvern's propensity for social interaction would not seemingly be denied. Ilheod opened his gaze once more as her wyvern playfully approach his own.
Ilheod spoke with both his eyes easing closed once more as the girl's wyvern approached. Most riders worried of their mounts not getting along. If not within the same units or disciplined properly it was sometimes a trouble. Ilheod's tone was not gruff or edged like usual. More like that of a man just finished a splendid nap. Even though his had not yet begun. "You've ought to fear lass if that's your worry. Astraeus is all but harmless as he is now." As it to confirm it, the wyvern's only response to the approaching other smaller wyvern was a large inhale and then exhale as if sighing. His wings remained tucked on his back as he examined the little one approaching. Ilheod spoke a moment later as well with a slight chuckle. "I don't expect you'll get much of that turkey back either. Atleast not in all once piece. "

No, it wasn't the wyvern that terrified her, it was the rider beside it. She wished she had her lance beside her as some form of protection, but she had to abandon it for a dead bird! Should she turn around and go search for it? Actually if the man was after her, she was surprised she was alive at the moment. She had a deep internal monologue about what to do in such a situation. Perhaps it would help to stop acting suspicious. He probably doesn't know about the whole deserting the army thing.
While she battled with what to do, Arman was busy trying to play with the older and bigger wyvern. When it seemed as though Astraeus was more content on enjoying the sun than bouncing around, he decided to go for easier prey. All the while, Zerene was being quite tense with the whole situation. Arman went behind the unsuspecting girl, went onto his hind legs, clasped his front claws over her shoulders and hovered over her head. Then it proceeded to drop the remains of the turkey onto her head. The bird went everywhere, guts and all. She was now covered in spit and blood. There was another moment of even awkwarder silence outside of Arman mimicking a guttural laugh.
"Arman!" Zerene shouted, turning her head and showing the true fury of someone not to be messed with. This was his signal to tackle her and beginning to lick excessively at her face. Zerene was soon on the ground, wrapping her arm around her partner and trying not to drown in spit and guts. At the very least, the tension around them has dissipated.

Ilheod eased his red eye closed, his right emerald one lingering open briefly as the girl struggled with her wyvern. Though he quietly chuckled to himself at the sight of a youth and their companion; a bit of nostalgia to his own upbringing he knew that things would change a bit as the young rider aged. Most likely atleast. The dynamics of the friendship altered a bit as the rider got older. Though, perhaps that was just for a soldiers life. Maybe it wasn't that bad for a kid in the end. Stretching slightly he relaxed more against the tree with the large sunbathing wyvern resting beside him. Extending his right hand he patted Astraeus's neck lightly. Fingers traced along the scales with a scratching motion as he spoke quietly, most likely unable to be heard by the wrestling young girl and her wyvern.
"It's been quite the journey..hasn't it bud? Seems like it was but a few weeks ago. How time flies."
He couldn't really help feeling the nostalgia. Seeing a young rider and their wyvern seemed to shoot him back in time to his own upbringing of Astraeus. He closed his single open eye after a moment while speaking, now loud enough to make it obvious he was addressing the girl. Curiosity getting the better of the older captain as he enjoyed his moment of relaxation next to his wyvern.
"How long have you two been partnered up? You seem pretty close; yet you look no older than a lass. "
He wouldn't impose greatly on the girl. In the end it /was/ a day of rest for him, so he wasn't exactly in the state of mind he would have been had he been patrolling the skies. Astraeus now shifted his head to examine the two. The larger wyvern was laying on his side still but his entire body was tilted a bit as if curled up with his head now resting near Ilheod and facing them. It was a curious sight for him. Astraeus was used to the military raised Wyvern's of the bern patrol units. It had been almost twenty years since he had seen such a playful duo of any nature; the older wyvern content to relax yet curious enough to examine.

Zerene continued to struggle with Arman, the larger of which was having a much easier time than the other. It wasn't too bad being spattered with guts and spit once the spell was finally gotten over. She tried her best, kicking and punching the wyvern whenever she saw an opening. Unfortunately this only delayed the inevitable, as he would respond by light headbutts and playful clawing at her armor.
Remembering why she was nervous beforehand, Zerene looked over at the other rider. Those two certainly was unlike her and Arman. At least the other wyvern wasn't trying to 'playfully' eat his partner's head. She grunted as her playmate began to put more weight on top of her. The pressure was rising to get out or she might be trapped under his belly until he feels like getting off. With that in mind, she jabbed him near his throat at the first opportunity. There was a yelp as he pushed off from the ground and jumped away from her, his wings spread out in excitement.
"It's been about 4 years now, apparently I'm the only sucker that was willing to deal with him," she replied with good nature and making the big mistake of looking away from wyvern. Before long he ran over, colliding from behind and causing her to fall face first into the ground. As though he had caught a winning trophy, he placed his right claw on her back and posed. He tried to look more regal by arching his back and lifting his head up into sky, all the while Zerene was busy spitting out mounds of dirt and grass from her mouth. The whole facade crumpled when he bent over and proceeded to trying to stuff his mouth with her head.

The Bern Captain chuckled a bit, merely hearing the sounds of struggle. From impacts and the grating of armor plates clanking together to the impacts of her Wyvern with light thugs of him tossing her about a bit. He could only imagine how fared her struggle. He quietly ran his fingers over the scales of Astraeus, tracing up and down as he lightly tended his partners neck a bit more. The only sign that Astraeus enjoyed it was his tail swaying through the grass; flattening and smearing it to the ground as it went side to side. Though he peaked once more, opening his eye as he examined her for a few moments with a chuckle. Every wyvern had quirks of sorts. It was no surprise to him that wyverns such as hers mindset not only existed but continued to.
His tone indicated his relaxed poise, even if he realized with much growing acknowledgment that he was not going to get any sleep. Stretching a bit, the captain rolled his shoulders and adjusted himself as he felt the slight adrenaline roll into his system when one roused themselves after easing close into slumber; as if feeling on edge. He tilted his gaze to examine her better now as her partner all but swallowed her whole. Most would have considered her behavior with her partner entirely unsafe. It was not overly to have ones head in any great beast as such however Ilheod could tell the wyverns play was more affectionate than anything. He had a feeling the creature had zero desires to actually harm his rider.
"I see he approves of this choice. I suspect we'll hear little complaint from him. I didn't exactly chose Astraeus either. I raised him from short moments prior to him hatching; I confess I had found him as but an unattended hatching. I've no idea how it happened. However I can tell you with a certainty it's been far worth it. "
Looking to the large sleeping creature Ilheod leaned over and patted the sides of his neck. The large wyvern tucked a bit and rolled further onto his side. Ilheod's saddlebags would have spilled not five years ago had he learned a better way to tie them and bind them so they would maintain closed in a full three hundred sixty degree shift. The captain chuckled as the wyvern enjoyed himself. "Not much sun exposure like this in the mountains of bern, and since were mostly out at night it's not often he gets to relax so handily."

"Well Arman here was pretty well grown when he busted out of his holds and ran a muck," Zerene replied, after momentarily pushing her head out of his mouth. He was trying desperately to chomp down on her face again and her arms was beginning to get tired from the pressure. Thankful, he was soon distracted by a fluttering butterfly and began to stalk it. She coughed and hacked a bit, trying to get the taste of wyvern drool out of her mouth. She stumbled back to to her feet and glanced down on her armor. Yep, she was going to scrubbing and cleaning herself for hours. It was best not to be bothered by it.
Her mind quickly snapped back to the matter at hand. What was this person and his wyvern doing here? There weren't many independent riders outside of Bern and this troubled her. A careful inspection of his armor and the past conversation quickly connected in her head. This man had to be from Bern, but at least they never met before. She should avoid bringing up her past and it should be fine. Small talk should be fine.
"I get you, but the air up there always seems so refreshing," she stated, thinking back to her own patrols. The scent of blood in the air always seem to ruin it. She scratched the back of her head, hoping to throw out her negative thoughts. She perked up quickly though, perhaps idiots did in fact tend to gather together.
"You guys been doing this for a long time right? What do you guys fight for?" she asked a bit sheepishly.

It was making a bit more sense. She had received the rebellious one. The way she spoke indicated she had belonged to some form of group. Atleast to say when she got him he had broken free, meant someone had essentially assigned her to him. He couldn't see a mercenary unit holding a wyvern stocks or some such. He shifted his gaze to her while she examined her armor; noting as the wyvern became distracted by the small insect. Ilheod was becoming generally curious in this young girl now. The fact that she was out here as far as he was? Why would that be. Curiosity nipped at him a bit when he finally spoke up. "Seems he wasn't trained much before you got him put into your care eh? I'm a bit surprised."
Though he was, he took a bit more from her words next than she might have wanted to reveal. When he commented upon the mountains of Bern she noted the air feeling refreshing. So she was a wyvern rider of Bern then. That would have made her military. Ilheod paused for a moment before speaking as she asked him her question. A random question at that, though it wasn't exactly hidden that he was a soldier, or in some form a "fighting" man. Ilheod shifted and though he didn't stand up just yet he sat up a bit straighter while gazing at the girl. "Me? Well honestly, I fight for the people back home. I command a wyvern unit. Used to be the Knight-Commander of a patrol force assigned to the western mountains. Fair number of squads. Before the rebellion business started. Next thing we knew we hadn't received orders or communications from the capital in weeks. We couldn't rightly wait. Brigands had started cropping up. Rebels fought the military and no one fought for the people anymore. No one protected them from the bandits and thieves. So we decided to. Suppose that makes me former Bern military really, but all my lads still follow me. We fight to keep the towns safe, when others won't. "
He gave a hearty and healthy pat to Astraeus, hand clapping his neck lightly as he shifted his palm to rub the scales. He looked up at the girl when he spoke, plying her with a question of his own. "What about you? I'm guessing your Bern military too by your comments and your wyvern. How'd you end up out here?"

Zerene mouth fell open for a second, but she was quick to recover and slam it shut. The man was once a high ranking rider, well much higher then she ever was. This made her a bit uneasy as she became more aware of rank differences. When it came down to it, she practically just started working with the army. Should she salute? No, it was too late for that. Her face was soon blushing over and red from embarrassment. Then came the question about how she ended up here. Lying was not an option, she would never lie to a superior officer.
"I," she began, taking a deep breath as she steeled her resolve,"I had to find out why and what I should be fighting for." When she spoke those words, it felt like quite a bit of weight was lifted off her shoulders and chest. Arman, had slinked his way over after unsuccessfully bounding around trying to catch the butterfly. Even he recognized the mood and decided to try comforting his partner. He nudged his snout under her right hands, gently nuzzling the palm. It then ran over to where they began the battle of the turkey and retrieved her lance.
Her hand grasped the lance, feeling comfort in the familiarity of holding a weapon. She leaned it against her body and thanked Arman by gently rubbing his lower jaw. He began to lean forward some more, trying to get the most out of the scratch. At some point, he forgot to adjust his balance and fell forward on his face. He was happy though, swinging his tail and smacking down the grass below.

Listening to her explanation Ilheod could merely but nod to her, patting his companion while she talked. Though deserting the army was generally a crime, the rebellion had changed the standing situation in Bern. He personally couldn't even admit to knowing the status of the kingdom's status. With his partner's head so close to his Ilheod couldn't resist the slight shift of his fingers as he scratched more to his chin. Looking to her own wyvern's reaction he chuckled a bit. He wasn't made of stone after all. Though when the wyvern brought her the spear he began to wonder just what unit she had been assigned too It was hardly relevant though so he erased the question from his mind. So she knew not what she was fighting for? There for she had chosen not to fight. He couldn't judge her harshly for the choice; better to follow with conviction then stumble in ignorance. Slowly now the captain eased himself upwards to his feet. Just as she shifted her weight to her spear he shifted himself upwards. As he stood up his Wyvern slowly adjusted from his side onto his stomach before standing up with a stretch. His tail tucked sideways a bit before extending to it's full length. It had to turn so it wasn't side facing the tree before stretching in full, it's colossal wings extending a deceptively large distance.
Ilheod extended a hand and extracted the silver spear from the ground. With it taking a familiar grip he made his way back over to the tree and leaned with his back against the tree now standing. He spoke after a moment of silence, looking at the girl with a neutral gaze; not one for smiles or many facial expressions openly. "It's honorable lass, but be careful. The military doesn't take well to those that leave it. Especially now I'd imagine. My lads may not hold the same rank for all we know, but they'll still protect the people. They can't properly be charged with treason for protecting the people. Just make sure you keep your wits about you."

Zerene had mixed feelings concerning the man's response to what she said. It seemed as though he didn't really have any disdain for what she had done nor a positive take on it. Her actions were her own and Arman was in with her like it or not. What he said was right concerning the Bern's take on abandoning one's post. She would most likely get some form of capital punishment in public for what she had done. She truly hoped that her grandparents were not affected by her decision, but there was simply no way to check.
"Yes, you're right," she replied, her eyes looking forward, but not at the man. All this running was tiresome and even now she feels uneasy about the future. Knowing the conditions of the Bern military was enough to deduce that she was safe as long as she wasn't recognized by any loyalists. It seemed as though the captain here knew what he wanted and is paying some price from it. She did not believe that she had the courage to have done what he did. She wasn't sure she would have been willing to even leave with him.
Arman simply looked from one to the other, trying to figure out what was wrong. He climbed onto her shoulder and began to lick at her face again. This was enough to get her back to a happier mood. She wondered if her partner here had amazing control or lack there of. He never did seem to put all that much weight and power whenever they were fighting. For once she knew one for sure, she was going to have to fight for Arman, the details can wait.

Ilheod looked to the girl with a brief chuckle now. Again, he wasn't made of stone; even he had enough of a heart to appreciate the bond between a young rider and their wyvern. Even a misbehaved slightly goofy wyvern. Shifting his spear so the butt pressed into the ground a bit to support his weight he leaned on it with a slight smile. However, all was not to last it would seem. For off to the west past the very hill they stood on, misfortune struck.
A group of refugee's from Laus had made their way into Santaruz. Seven people with two wagons pulled by horse back were making their way along the trail. Save for a single man holding a spear that looked like a simple farmer trying to play guard; they had no protectors. Ilheod took note of them, as they came into sight in the distance looking past the girl. It wasn't an unfamiliar sight. Refugee's often moved from home to home in times of danger our war. Given Laus's current standing it wasn't surprising. However his expression soured as he heard a shout from over the hill side.
Shirtless men dotted the hill side. One particularly large thug shouted incoherently. The people could make out his words however; and it caused them all to stir in a panic as they started running down the road, horses pulling the wagons now galloping. "UP AND ATT'EM BOYS. WE GOTS SOME GOODS TA' SNATCH!"
The villagers had to stop running as the path before them got cut off. Men wielding swords cut them off in the distance also moving to run at them screaming. The sight unfolded quickly and Ilheod wasn't about to let it play through /entirely/ without his interruption. He was quick to move. He whistled with two fingers to his lips suddenly even though the man wore armored gauntlets. Astraeus instantly sprung onto all fours and to a crouched position with his wings spread as Ilheod lept onto his back with his helmet sliding over his head. He brandished the spear turning back to the girl. "If you ever needed a reason to fight, here's one. Fight if you can, stay here out of danger if you can't lass. Astraeus, UP!"
In the single command the wyvern lunged a long jump out of the tree's shadow and flapped his wings heavily to shoot up into the sky. In that simple moment the Bern captain was off and soaring through the air towards the people. He wasn't willing to leave them to their fates. Astraeus let out a loud piercing screech of a roar to warn the brigands that they didn't just face some helpless peasants now. The notion that they could outnumber him never a factor, for in Ilheod's mind if he had to he would strike them all down himself to protect the innocent.

Melvina had just returned from a meeting with Laus knight-commander, looking rather tired. It had been fruitful meeting with some new plans for securing the road and crushing bandit lairs formulated in agreement with the other commanders. Arranging joint operation and patrol for Santaruz-Laus route was part of her job which recently had become more frequent due the increasing difficulty to maintain order and civilian safety in Lycia. Even with the increased patrols the road wasn't perfectly safe from monsters and bandits. The danger sometimes happened in places where the knights either wasn't there at the moment or couldn't react in time due to the distances and lack of manpower. Sometimes even the knights sent to deal with the problem were ended up dead. Now the black-armored knight was on her way back toward the Santaruz military headquarter accompanied by two knights, handpicked personally by the ruthless captain to be her personal bodyguards for this trip.
On their way, they saw two wagons marching a bit far ahead of them. Travelers or refugees? Santaruz was a busy region so it was very normal to encounter another group while traveling, especially since many people from other regions had been flocking into Santaruz recently. Melvina observed the other group as she and her knight slowly closed their distance with those slow wagons. Maybe she should offer to protect them until the nearest town although it would make her arrive late to her destination. It was a knight duty to serve people and she shouldn't deny those people their rights to be protected.
But before a decision could be made, it seemed those people did need some help. The refugees started to panic when a big shirtless man roared order to his fellow brigands. Those brutes probably had waited for someone to get into their this spot, which provided ideal hiding places for an ambush. Melvina knew those people wouldn't last long without reinforcement. It would be tricky, the bandits had advantage with their superior numbers and her knights wouldn't be able to fight freely because they had to protect the refugees.
The knight-commander exchanged look with her subordinates before she gave her order. "Roland, go back and tell our situation to the last patrol we encountered! They shouldn't be too far from here! And you, Alan! You come with me!" The knight who she had ordered to leave the battle and find reinforcement then complained about him wanting to join the fray but Melvina's glare told the young knight not to go against his furious captain's order. "Now!" she barked. Their horse galloped almost at the same time as they went to bring their riders to accomplish the mission.
Melvina's expression stiffened when an wyvern rider unexpectedly came, making his entrance more extraordinary with a roar from his wyvern. Her eyes, which partly hidden by her helmet, locked to the figure on top of the wyvern. A few scenarios were running on her mind: he might be here by coincidence, he might be trying to help the refugees, or he might be in the brigands' side. The latter was the worst scenario possible although it was also the one with lowest probability. Gritted her teeth as she turned her attention forward, Melvina then barked another order to her subordinate, "Stay near the wagons and try to fend off those criminals! Pay attention to the wyvern rider!"
Melvina and her knight caught up with the refugees and started taking the attention toward them. As ordered, Melvina's bodyguard stayed with the refugees. With the lance gripped tight, the green-haired knight made her horse gallop even faster toward the brigands who blocking the trail. If she could somehow break their formation maybe the wagons would be able to escape through the hole.
"You scums! Prepare to die!" she roared.

Zerene began to open her mouth to say something, when she heard the sound from behind. There was a robbery taking place and it was very likely that someone might end up losing more than their money. The wyvern captain already knew exactly what to do, the two moving in synchronicity as he climbed onto his wyvern and flew off. They were prepared to fight here and now for the sake of the people. Then what was she? There were times when she struggled with her first kill.
Arman seem to know better. He nudged at Zerene's free hand and let out a pitiful little cry as he gazed behind him. This lizard brains was far smarter than she was when he wanted to be. A brought a small smile to her face and she wondered how silly she was for even hesitating. This was one of the few times when taking another life was more black and white then the others. With practiced movement and a great deal of confidence, she climbed onto her mount's back and began to dash toward the fray.
As soon as they picked up a bit of speed, Arman flew up into the sky, higher until the people below were just specks. This feeling of battle ensuing so soon and the rising pounding of her heart reminded her of all the stories her grandfather had once told. She felt like a soldier again, a person who spent their lives protecting the people. Once they reached a decent altitude, they dove, heading straight down like an arrow shooting for a mark. Her eyes narrowed as they approached a target, away from others that might come to an immediate rescue.
