"Fair enough..." Melvina didn't seem disappointed with the rejection. "And actually I wasn't planning to draft you into official army. The recent increase of monster or bandit attacks in Lycia regions has increased the need of armed force to defend villages, roads, etc. Mercenaries and volunteers are welcomed in Santaruz...and probably in the other states as well. Of course there would be payment, lodging, and supplies if you agree to help. The terms in the contract can always be negotiated, like how long you will serve or how much gold you want," she explained. If possible, she would like to offer the job to the brown-haired man too but it had to wait until he finished with mending his wound.
Melvina watched how Zerene and Arman had lively and funny interaction. She couldn't imagine herself acting so childish although she did feel a bit jealous to the pair. Unfortunately, to act like that would hurt her image in the eyes of her fellow soldiers. The green-haired knight then looked at Shiva, who was more reserved than Arman although the white horse actually had her wild moments too in the past. The horse's nature matched perfectly with Melvina's serious attitude.
"Well, it sounds nice to hear that you are prepared to protecting people. But I hope you spoke the truth." Melvina turned her gaze to the survivors and then to the direction where she had come from. While tidying her hairs by running her fingers through it, Melvina approached Zerene and Arman then put her hand on the spot where the wyvern had been hit. "If you hit him too often, he will become dumb very quickly," she remarked, chuckling. "Nah, I was joking. You can hit him more often to discipline him if you want..." she said as she patted the wyvern.

Zerene looked over Arman with what he thought of the offer. The giant lizard simply looked away from her and began to poke at the ground instead. With one claw, he lightly dug into the ground, nipping at the dirt curiously and falling in love with the taste of it. Sure, he was equally silly as he was ferocious, but Zerene only find it rather endearing in the end. At least she doesn't worry about him ever having to stab her in the back.
"Then I would love to help out in any way I can," she replied rather eagerly, glancing over at Arman to make sure he didn't cause any more trouble. When Melvina approached the wyvern though, he knew well enough that she was a friendly. So when she reached to pet, he simply leaned forward into the hands and enjoyed himself with a twist of his neck and an almost purr like sound from his throat. To show his affection, he began lapping at her hands and slobbering all over her.
"I don't think he can get any dumber than this honestly," Zerene joked, poking at him with the blunt end of her stick. As a response, he playfully latched onto in an attempt to wrench it free from her hands, but that was easier said than done. She knew how to play keep away from the creature.
"My name is Zerene Darliana and this is Arman. I'll becareful being too friendly with him, as he'll likely want to drench your face in love or nip at your feet out of affection," she warned while casually pulling at her lance at the right times so that it isn't taken. This play would only last so long until it loses his attention and he finds his play somewhere else.

Melvina wasn't sure how to react to this...wetness in her hand. Surely Arman only wanted to display his affection, it was nice and cute, but Melvina would prefer something which wouldn't involve slobbering. Thankfully, there was a good chance to pull her hand away when Zerene poked the wyvern with her lance and attracted his attention. "Good...I will personally arrange the paperwork for you to show my gratitude for your help. Take it easy and tour the city first if you want. When you are ready, you just need to head to the barrack," she said as she made a pointing gesture toward the direction of Santaruz.
"Nice advice...but you should have told me sooner. Now I really must clean myself," she said with a smile, ended it with sighing. The green-haired knight jokingly raised her hand in front of Zerene's face to show how drenched it had already become. Watching how Zerene played with Arman brought a strange but peaceful feeling into Melvina's chest. She noticed how innocent the younger girl looked with her cute interaction toward the wyvern's playful attempts. This kinda reminded the knight of the times when she still hadn't started taking every matters seriously, when she hadn't had many responsibilities. "To be honest, I am surprised he accepted me so quickly. I thought he would growl and bare his fangs at me," she remarked.
Melvina looked at the direction where she expected the reinforcement would be coming. Still no sign from them, no sound of horses and no cloud of dust in the horizon. It seemed she just had to wait here with Zerene until she could start escorting these people to their destination. "So, Zerene and Arman....How long have you been together? I heard some wyvern riders grew up together with their wyverns," she asked curiously.

Sure enough Arman became bored with the stick and began to have himself distracted by other things. Seeing as Zerene was having some sort of grown up talk with another woman, he went off to bother someone less busy. He tried going to inspect the other rider's horse, but quickly got his attention on a grasshopper. He jumped at it and missed, slowly stalking it like he was a cat.
"Don't go too far," Zerene warned, glancing over at her wyvern. He was a handful and a reason she would never consider having children. Goodness, if she did, then it would probably be the end of her. He had already made her heart practically burst out of her chest countless times, but luckily wyverns were sturdier than humans.
"He's a big softy honestly, doesn't get violent unless threatened," she reassured, "Or if you're a bird." Arman had a taste for poultry it seemed and usually ended up ripping the birds apart and stuffing his face full of feathers. She tried other foods like fish, but nothing gets him like a nice plump chicken, preferably alive.
"I haven't been training for as long as most riders. It has only been a few years since we started being together, but it sure feels a lot longer. Originally I was slated to be a simple foot soldier," she shrugged, not caring for what could have been, but focusing on what it simply resulted in.
"I actually got promoted to a soldier rather early and sometimes I wonder what they were thinking." she muttered as the wyvern practically wobbled back. In the span of time, he had caught himself a bird and proceeded to gift it to Melvina. He moved over to Zerene and began lapping at her face.

"Yahoo!" Thunder galloped over a hill at full speed, Cen standing in the stirrups of the saddle on his back. The moss headed youth had been the one to let out the yell, not the horse. Cen had been setting an easy pace for the giant horse, but the two of them had both wanted to break free. So, when given an open road, Cen had allowed the big horse to let it all hang out. By Roland's beard, the horse was fast. The thing was so big, Cen had thought it wouldn't be able to blow his hair back, it was a demon. He had given the horse a good name. As he drove his massive legs into the ground, his thick hooves created the sound of a mile wide thunder storm, with each cloud cluster letting out a massive eruption of sound seconds apart. They'd have to call him the Knight of Storms, Cen thought with a smile.
Suddenly his nostrils flared, only a few seconds after the horse's nostrils began to work harder, but with the sounds of searching for a smell not from breathing. They both smelled the same thing. Blood. Cen began to slow Thunder, then he came to a complete stop at the scenes of a battle that appeared to be just over. The large horse had come to a complete stop just next to two women, another horse and a Wyvern. Cen slid out of the saddle in one quick motion just as the horse stopped completely. As his heels touched the ground, he heard Thunder clomp one hoof against the ground, and let out a massive whinny, throwing his head down then up. No doubt the horse was trying to be impressive. Was the atmosphere not so serious, Cen might have laughed. "Hello, what's happened here? Is anyone wounded?" Cen's face was serious, but he tried not to sound too commanding. Both woman had the look of military, and the one was definitely a knight. He needed to remember he was a commoner.

Melvina raised her brow and looked confused. Did Zerene just mention that Arman was usually violent toward birds? Really...what vendetta he had against those poor creatures? Melvina eventually figured that it was probably because the wyvern had birds as his favorite food, maybe chickens and ducks too. She chuckled as she took another look at hyperactive wyvern. There was a quite amusing scene here. Shiva, Melvina's horse, seemed uneasy with a giant lizard approaching her. She was lucky, though, Arman was more interested with a grasshopper.
"Well, from what I've seen, I think you deserved the promotion. You have right morality for a soldier and your martial skill is sufficient to serve in most army. Plus, you seem to have good compability with Arman. I've heard it's not easy to tame a wyvern, even if you grow up together. Not sure, though...I am not really familiar with this subject," she said. Melvina wasn't being sweet or considerate toward Zerene, who seemed to question her own competency. The black knight wasn't the type to make white lie just to appease someone. She had acknowledged Zerene so she told her about it, just that simple.
Melvina stared at the dead bird in her hand. Was it...a gift? It would be rude to throw it away but she couldn't think a way to use it. She exchanged look with Shiva, who simply shook her head and made weak whinny. Geez...at least the wyvern had returned his attention to his master. She used this chance to slowly put down the bird on the ground.
There was a horseman coming toward them. At first, Melvina had thought he was one of her men but when Cen finally got closer she realized that she never saw him. Could this guy possibly be one of the new recruits? But that possibility was quickly dismissed. A recruit wouldn't allowed to wander this far. So maybe this guy just a traveler or something like that. Melvina sighed, disappointed that he wasn't the reinforcement she had been expecting. "There was a skirmish with a bandit group. This girl here and I got some light wounds. Nothing life-threatening, thankfully," she replied, looking at Cen with straight expression. "Who are you?"

"We've gotten ourselves a job again," Zerene said to her wyvern, patting him on his head. He let out a chortling sound, enjoying the touch and attention. He had a surprisingly large range of sounds that he liked to use. It was adorable in its own right, but can ruin the whole vicious image if used during combat. At the very least he tries to be threatening when fighting for their lives.
"You think I'm ready for this?" she asked, though she doubted there would be any response. Her partner could only nudge at her, lapping at her hand. When Melvina complimented about her promotion and the like, she couldn't help, but flush red. Compliments and reassurance wasn't something she was familiar with. Yes, she worked hard, much harder than many riders who had been training for years. Perhaps one could say she was a workaholic, spending most of her free time training. Deep down she knew about her inexperience and simply tried to prepare the best way she knew. In the end, all that hard work was effective enough to get her out alive. As for her darn morality, well that had been the reason for her desertion.
"I don't think you can actually tame him," she commented, jostling the mount's head a bit. He nipped at her fingers eagerly, she could feel the fangs from underneath the glove. Before he could bite down harder, she leaned her lance against her and closed the beast's jaws. He struggling for a moment before she finally let go, causing him to fall over to the side. After snorting, he was soon back to his usual chipper start.
When the other rider appeared, the wyvern was quick to run over and begin exploring the other horse. He always had a thing for strangers that he thought was pleasant. She whistled for him to return in which he promptly decided to use as a reason to do a trick. He Flew up into the sky and did a back flip before flying down and gently landing next to her rider.
"Sorry, he's just really curious," she reassured, patting the wyvern on the head.

"Mah- My name is Cen. I'm a... A mercenary. A mercenary from Cornwell. Will anybody need a ride into town or aynthing like that? Because if so, the big guy here would be a great ferry." Cen patted the horses haunch, which was met by another very dramatic whinnie from the great beast. The horse was trying very hard to be impressive. Cen had to guess that it had something to do with the other horses around, that Thunder wanted them to know who the fastest strongest horse around was, and it was him.
Cen wouldn't get to be as impressive, as the Wyvern decided it needed to investigate Thunder. Cen and Wyvern's had... a complicated history. It's not that he dislikes them, it's just that he is actively terrified of them grabbing him and flying into the sky. Even though Thunder was much much heavier than his rider, maybe even some small wyverns, it freaked Cen out a bit, the beast sniffing around his horse. He placed his hand on Thunder's saddle, attempting to keep him calm. Thunder let out a massive gust of air from his nostrils, and didn't move his feet, simply his head. He wasn't the one who needed to be calmed. Cen broke out in a cold sweat, and his face showed visual discomfort. Then the Wyvern flew into the sky, and Cen was able to breath again.
As the massive beast whirled overhead, Thunder backed up, nudging Cen's arm. Cen patted the horse again. The big horse must have felt Cen's heartbeat increase through his wrist or something. The rider gulped, trying to force down his fear again. He smiled at the Wyvern's Rider, "Right, curious." He put his serious face back on again, "Who might you two be?" He tried not to be too serious, but being too familiar with people of rank had gotten him in trouble before, and the knight commander looked to be the type to take the rules deathly serious.
