The new mechanics for the weapons make it a harder FE game. Despite all of the pandering there is still an Fe game in there. I spoiled myself a little too much. I'm actually a bit confused of the support/pair up since that apparently a got boost/nerf too.

Infinite uses and a strange-ass weapon triangle make things harder?
Do tell.

Infinite uses and a strange-ass weapon triangle make things harder? Do tell. To make up for weapons having infinite uses, each one has buffs and debuffs or extra effects. For some examples, a bronze katana gives you crit evade +10, but removes your ability to critical. An iron katana gives you +1 to speed, and -1 to defense and resistance. And a steel katana reduces your ability to double by -3. And that's not taking into account their specific weapon might. The weapon triangle is pretty straight forward, all things considered, but as you know there's extra stuff added to it. I can't tell you WHY they did it - presumably so you have to plan out your turns and weapons further - but they did. It's not a worse or a better system; just radically different from what we're used to. Courtesy of our friends over at SF, here's the full list. Try not to dig too deep if you take a look, there's some spoiler weapons in there.

Try not to dig too deep if you take a look, there's some spoiler weapons in there. The weapon dynamics are actually looking pretty cool. There's more thought to be put into weapon usage than "What weapon has the highest might but still lets me double?" and theres no more worrying about weapons being too awesome to useBut I stand by my original statement that the weapon triangle is nonsensical. Yes, there's only a minor real world application of sword > axe > lance > sword, but lance > magic = sword > axe and sword > bow = axe > lance have no real conceptual logic behind them in regards to magic and bows. This stands opposed to the original triangle that could at least be explained in rock-paper-scissors like terms (short light weapon beats strong heavy weapon, but is beat out by a weapon with longer reach; weapon with longer reach beats the short light weapon, but is beat out by strong heavy weapon)

I can partially see the logic in it. Lances are the melee weapon with the longest reach. You have to be in adjacent spaces to hit with them unless they are thrown, but Lances can still strike an enemy before a sword or axe. While the sword allows for closing the gap quicker once you're near an opponent, the Lance doesn't have to close the gap. You just stab and done. This means that once you're engaged in combat, there's less time to charge up a spell against a lance user because they have more reach than other melee fighters. Thereby limiting how you can use your magic and how long you have to use it before eating a sharp metal point.
On the same grounds, aiming at a speedy sword wielder with a bow is going to be much harder than someone toting around an axe, and the lance is outranged by the bow. Given that the lance's true strength lies in its reach over the other(nonmagic) weapon types, I'd say that's their logic behind Bow>Lance.
This does put a flaw in the logic behind Lance>Magic, though, because Magic is capable of being used at a distance, which means most lances couldn't counterattack anyway.
It's not perfect logic, but it's the only thing I could come up with.

Conquest. After so many games as the nation that gets invaded in the beginning of the story, it'll be nice to play one where we can be the stompers of curbs.

I'll do both. I may start with birthright just to get a feel for the game and then pour a lot of focus into conquest.

I do not think I would be allowed to get it if I ever get a 3DS. But theoretically speaking, if I could only choose one, it would be Hoshido (Birthright).
