"I- excuse me. I apologize for my transgressions." She hung her head before recomposing herself with dignity. Addressing Aria she appeared much more serene. “It is always a pleasure to meet a fellow sister of the church.” Emily held out a hand to shake.
Aria smiled and shook Emily's hand softly. "So you are a member of the church? I'm guessing you are an Inquisitor. I thank you for what you and your fellow Inquisitors do for the church.
Ventus seemed to look confused when he heard the word Inquisitor. An Inquisitor? I've never met one before. I wonder what it's like to be one. He continued to think about the life of an Inquisitor as Emily continued to speak.
“So, the sounds you heard were a wolf. It seems Alex here has an affinity for them.” Emily looked down at the beast as if to confirm it really did exist. “I fear what we may encounter in our travels but I have faith Elimine will watch over us all and deliver us safely wherever we go.”
"I am sure Elimine will watch over us," said Aria as she went over to Alex and the wolf pup that was nearby. Ventus followed her and together they put their hands out in front of the pup trying to show that they were friendly.
“I fear it may be sunrise before we’d arrive but we could all rest at the church then.” Most would suggest the inn but with a young inquisitor and cleric the church seemed quite doable… and free. “What do you guys think? I’d rather not stay out and risk something, or someone unpleasant finding us. Even if there are a lot of us.”
"I'm good with whatever is easiest for all of us," said Ventus just as the pup seemed to accept him and Aria. The pup stayed close to Alex still though. Aria looked up to Emily.
"I'm sure a church would take us in. They wouldn't push away young people like us. Aria returned her gaze back to the wolf pup. Alex then picked up the wolf pup and held in it his arms.
"If I may, Emily; I can see the younger ones of our company all ready falling asleep where they stand; They need their rest, but having to carry them and their supplies would slow us down considerably and we likely wouldn't reach the next town until late into the morning. It isn't too cold to camp out tonight, and if we went a little into the forest we would likely be safe from any potential threats. I'm certainly not tired, so I'd be more than happy to sit up throughout the night to keep watch in case anything does happen. If that's alright with you...?" Alex made sure that it was clear to Emily that his suggestion was merely that, for fear of hurting her feelings or seeming confrontational.
Ventus and Aria looked at each other and nodded. "I can take shifts with Alex so that we could all get some sleep. Ventus put the suggestion out to show that he was capable of helping the group out.
"Well whatever we decide to do, we should do it soon. The moon continues to rise as we speak. Aria looked over to Emily and Alex to allow them to make the decision.

Emily was not ready to stop for the night. Having been trampled once already she was wide awake and ready to move on to the town; however she was clearly in the minority here. Her armor would take time to remove and tend to, all things she did not want to bother with. Emily bit her tongue with a sigh; seeing she was in the minority it would do no good to push the others. “Okay, let’s break till the morning.” She surveyed the area as best she could. In the distance she could just make out a small clearing. Enough for a few people, cramped with their numbers. “We can rest over there.”
Emily considered her actions of accepting the others’ opinions as a kind and selfless gesture on her part and proceeded to the clearing. She could tell the others were acting like they were walking on eggshells. There was a deliberate caution when they spoke. “Well, no point in all of us staying awake really. I’m already in armor and quite awake now. I can take the first watch if you want. I appreciate you all offering but it’d be far more practical.” Dropping her lance next to a log Emily dropped down onto it with a clatter, as if to stress the fact she was armored. “But, if you want to stay up I won’t say no to the company.” There was a hint of proposal in her voice; or was it testing? “I’d be keen to get to know all of you that much better as we wait for the light of day.” She proceeded to take out the hilt of her broken sword and hold it between her clasped hands. She closed her eyes and became still. Was she sleeping or praying?

Once the everybody else had settled down and began sleeping, Alex went over and sat down besides Emily. "Your armour's dirty." He began, having little else to start the conversation with. "It doesn't look like it'd be the easiest thing to clean while wearing, and you'd be here for hours if you were to take all that off, clean and put it on again. And, well, you'd be standing out here in..." Alex gave a kind of cough of embarrassment. "Anyway, would you like some help cleaning it?" He could tell Emily had been doing her best to be accommodating somehow, so he felt it would only be right to return the favour. He was holding a small flame in his hand so he and Emily could see each others faces.
Looking at her now, Alex was beginning to get an idea of the sort of person Emily was. She had a pretty face, but Alex could tell she was trying her best to be intimidating. Was that what Inquisitors supposed to do? Though she was obviously independent, she also acted in a way which any other child their age would; Mostly calm and polite towards strangers, yet with anger and frustration which bubbled close to the surface. Dimming the flame a little so as not to wake the others, Alex leaned closer to Emily, bending over to look up at her, as though she hadn't heard him the first time. "So, would you like some help or not?" He grinned.

After a decisive decision and a short walk, Emily managed to find the group a small clearing to rest for the night. Aria and Ventus looked around to check if there was anything currently occupying the clearing. Gladly, there wasn't anything bad in the clearing. Ventus looked up as he heard Emily speak.
“Well, no point in all of us staying awake really. I’m already in armor and quite awake now. I can take the first watch if you want. I appreciate you all offering but it’d be far more practical.” Ventus understood her reasoning. However, he still wanted to be of use. “But, if you want to stay up I won’t say no to the company.” Aria had gone to rest, so Ventus decided to go give Emily some company, but then he noticed Alex was coming over to her too.
"It doesn't look like it'd be the easiest thing to clean while wearing, and you'd be here for hours if you were to take all that off, clean and put it on again. And, well, you'd be standing out here in..." Alex gave a kind of cough of embarrassment. "Anyway, would you like some help cleaning it?" Ventus chuckled to himself. Alex is so ... giddy around Emily. It's nice to see. "So, would you like some help or not?"
"I wouldn't mind helping too!" Ventus exclaimed, but then quickly clasped his hands over his mouth in fear of waking the others. "Sorry," he whispered to the duo, "Just wanted to stay up a bit and get to know who I'm traveling with." Ventus looked at Alex, "I know you have a case of amnesia, so I guess we should get to know more about Emily." As Ventus finished his statement, he looked to Emily. "So how did you end up becoming an Inquisitor? Do you enjoy what you do? Can you tell me about it?"

Emily was in fact lost in her own mind for a moment as Alex asked to help her clean her armor. It was a precious suit but to clean it now would be far too impractical, then Ventus offered too. Wit a sigh she opened her eyes and put the hilt away. "Well, if the both of you want to help so much I guess we could tidy it up." She started with removing her bracers.
"Now, I feel inclined to inform you about armor Alex. I am not naked or in smallclothes underneath. That would be a terrible condition to experience, my body would chafe completely raw! I have a hauberk beneath, tough stuff of leather." She had a small smirk of humor. She found his lack of knowledge funny in a way. Not rude or condescending, just funny.
Ventus asked the questions she was better off not answering, not in this area anyway. But they all seemed kind and genuine enough, none of them had that zeal either. "Well, I was adopted into the church as a child because of... well, because of some dreams I had. I had dreams of things that were yet to come." Emily hung her head and focused into the darkness for a moment. "I would rather keep some of my own secrets for now but, I had a dream of terrible things to come. The archbishop of our church asked me to investigate and so I left. Gifted with the armor and sword of the lady Fein. Of course, the sword is broken and useless. That is why I use the lance.

Alex turned red and tried to coolly laugh off his earlier remarks with questionable success. "What? I was just going to say how lacking in protection you would be if we were ambushed by bandits, but a stopped because I realised you'd already thought of that yourself..." An uncomfortable silence followed for Alex. After Emily had addressed what Ventus had to say, Alex felt that Emily might be happier if conversation were diverted away from her for a while. Despite not having much to say about himself, Alex offered up what little he could. "I don't remember too clearly, but I know that my tome and cloak were gifts from someone. I got them from someone special..." Alex winced as he felt a tinge of pain. Did this always happen to people when they remembered things? Alex could now remember this special person more clearly though, thanks to him sharing such information with Emily and Ventus. He could see their...her face now. She was very pretty and kind with long and loose, yet somehow still orderly, pale green hair. Her eyes were a shade of blue (lighter than Alex's own) which were very soft and inviting, and she wore a cloak exactly like Alex's, but better fitting. However, Alex could now see her taking this cloak off and putting it over Alex's head before pulling it down over his shoulders. Now standing in a light, thigh length white robe, the woman handed Alex a garnet book with gold lining on the covers and a gold emblem in the middle. That was all Alex saw before the memory faded. Alex wiped a tear from his eye, turning his head away from Emily and Ventus. Who was this woman? She was too young to be his mother, but too old to be a sweetheart. Alex realised that his relationship with this person was very intimate and so knew this young woman could not be any possible relative he may have had. Feeling a chill across his body, Alex withdrew into his cloak, his arms wrapped around his body as his hands gripped the ends of the cloak to pull them into each other.

Ventus listened to Emily's short story. She clearly didn't want to talk too much about her life and past life, so Ventus didn't pry. Alex then spoke up about his cloak and tome and where he gained them from. He seemed to be in pain when recalling the memory.
"Are you okay?" Ventus asked with worry in his eyes. "Do you need to rest?" Ventus felt like he needed to rest himself. He figured that if they were going to travel that rest would serve himself well. Ventus wanted to be ready for whatever was to occur in the near future. He was sure it would be a joyous adventure.
"Well I guess I'm going to hit the hay, so goodnight guys! Wake me if you need me or when it's time to go." Ventus got up and begun to walk over around where Aria was sleeping. The young pupil prepared for bed and closed his eyes. It took a few moments before Ventus was out. However, during his sleep Ventus begun to have a dream. The pupil saw the valkyrie Willow that he met at the same time he met Aria atop her horse in a battle. It seemed to be Etruria against every other country in Elibe. The fight was grueling and terrible. There seemed to be a shadowy figure looming over the Etrurian army. Suddenly, Ventus woke up. He wondered why Etruria would even be fighting. Then he remembered that Willow was going to Sacae to fight. Why is Etruria fighting other countries? Ventus never really fully understood the politics of Etruria. Ventus just knew that the ruler of Etruria was a supposedly great man. Ventus wasn't quite sure if that was true if this leader was warring with other countries. The young pupil felt that he needed to understand what was really going on with Etruria.

(I figure we can end the thread here and then pick up with getting to the town and the first real adventure. If we want to do anymore chatting let's save it for a support.)
The others were finally beginning to tire AND admit to it. Well, Ven was, she had a feeling that Alex really may not be tired at all. "Okay Ven, we'll let you know if anything comes up. Just try to get some sleep for now, tomorrow we have a long day ahead and I want to see the town to its fullest."
Emily stood and removed her breastplate setting it aside by her spear. "See, modestly dressed even without the armor." This time she was teasing Alex about his mistake. She withheld herself from being merciless; knowing this little bit would be enough. Taking on a sisterly approach now she looks down at Alex.
"Well, since you offered to take the watch and were apparently sleeping for an unknown amount of time I think I will go to sleep too, now that my armor is off." The two had talked for a while even after Ventus was fast asleep, lost in his nightmares that would soon connect him and Emily even closer than before.
"Well, goodnight Alex. I'll see you in the morning." She laid down her head before swiftly raising it again. "And no funny business, you hear me? Goes for all of you." She put her head down again and this time did not raise it."
This night she would have no nightmares, only thoughts of endless adventures and all sorts of good the group could do.

Alex blushed at Emily's teasing remarks. "I already told you---!" He gave up. It was a lost cause for him to try and convince Emily that he wasn't going to say Emily would've been left naked without her armour. He also felt a smidge of jealousy when Emily started calling Ventus "Ven" endearingly, but he bit his tongue and said nothing of it. Once Emily was just about settling down to sleep, she spoke again, warning Alex about "funny business". Alex, looking into this comment more deeply than he should have, blushed once more and left out a kind of embarrassed chuckle. "I-I wouldn't dream of it..." He said, taken aback by what he perceived Emily's message to be.
Once everyone else was a sleep, Alex couldn't help but feel lonely and began to realise just how tired he really was. Despite having slept for what must have been some time earlier that day, Alex found himself feeling extremely sluggish, but resolved to stay awake and alert until someone woke up to take over as a guard. As soon as the next member of the group began his watch, Alex examined the group for a space to settle down in. The group were packed tightly together due to there relatively large number, but Alex managed to find a space beside Emily where he could rest. Pulling his headband down to make a sort of eyemask and pulling his cloak into himself once more, Alex lay down to sleep. However, he was a heavy sleeper who tended to move around a lot, so he couldn't promise Emily that there'd be no "funny business" to awake to in the morning, regardless of her definition of such an activity.
