How long had he been back on the farm? Selk couldn't remember all the days. He'd learned a thing or two about combat from the short time he spent venturing with that group from around Lycia, but now all he had to remember them by were a couple of scars and some fleeting memories. Still, the beasts they encountered before he dispersed from that group now roamed the countryside almost everywhere it seemed. His family's cattle and chickens were almost always in need of constant watch to prevent them from being devoured by some unpleasant creature. Thanks to Selk's combat training and his lance, though, he always managed to either drive them away or outright slay them. His father took up a sword to aid him, but the attacks were getting to intense. With little else but their farm to sustain them and no way out, it was either defend the farm and survive or become homeless and impoverished after abandoning the farm for their lives.
It was a tough decision, but there were already countless who had fled as far from those creatures as possible. Selk gave all his savings from working around Caelin with his skills as a knight, usually taking up some slack for guard duty at the castle when they were short-handed, and gave it to them as a gift so that they might get far enough away and still have money to sustain themselves while they looked for a new living. Selk, himself, could not find it in his heart to abandon Caelin so easily...not while he had the spear to defend it.
And so Selk had everything he needed on his person as he walked away from his family's farm for what would be the last time for a very long time. The cattle had been taken to a safer location by the guard, and his family had left the area afterward. He glanced over his shoulder once before vanishing down the road toward the city of Caelin itself. He would have to pick up some minor supplies, mostly rations and a waterskin, for his future travels. His old waterskin had a hole in it, and he had no rations on him right now save for a couple of days worth of jerky. The market district of Caelin was known for having odds and ends from all over Lycia, and today would be no different. Trade routes were more dangerous thanks to the monsters roaming about, but mercenary work was never in short supply for that reason. He'd hopefully be able to find a trade caravan to help out and make some coin...the only thing that concerned him was the word he'd heard of war, invasions, and such. On the outskirts of the smallest Lycian province...word took a while to reach. What had really been going on in the world?

Another day and another patrol. For a Wyvern Rider of Bern Shugo was spending a lot of time in Lycia. It could not be helped though. Shugo sought out evil and evil seemed to be pooling in this land. Though this time it was not the evils of man, but that of monsters. Shugo had some experience fighting the beasts. He had been fighting them for some time in both Bern and Lycia. Though he mostly fought the wild dogs that terrorized the cattle and roads. He never fought any of the undead, but he imagined they would be a lot easier to kill, especially with Luna.
"Hey Luna take us down", spoke Shugo as he rubbed the head of his mighty white Wyvern. The beast let out a fearsome screech and then began to make its decent to the ground. Neither Shugo, nor Luna were in much of a hurry so the decent was gradual rather than his usual bomb dive and turn. Shugo need to resupply himself. He had been flying around for a long time and most of his supplies had been eaten. He had a few pieces of wolf jerky left, but Shugo really did not like the taste of it. As a matter of fact shugo would not have even eaten it if he was not so hungry. However the flames of hunger had a way of making you place your personal tastes aside and eat what you can.
As Shugo and Luna descended toward the ground the young rider saw a knight walking down the road. Shugo could tell he was a knight by the size of his armor. At one point Shugo aspired to be a warrior clad in thick metal armor and stand as a Titan on the field. However fate had other plans and Shugo ended up meeting Luna and becoming a proud rider. It was for the best. Shugo was not sure if he would even be alive right now if it was not for Luna. The white wyvern had saved his life more times than Shugo can remember.
"Lets see if he knows where we are", spoke Shugo to Luna as he directed her to flying over the head of the knight. He first passed over the man allowing Luna's might shadow to be seen. He then swung around and landed on the road leading in the direction that he was going. The young Wyvern Rider then walked Luna up to the man and looked down upon him as if he was riding a steed. "Excuse me, but do you happen to know where we are", asked Shugo as he looked down at the man.

It was a strange, but welcomed surprise for Selk when his view was blocked by none other than a wyvern and its rider. Seeing a wyvern rider in Caelin was incredibly rare. In fact, the knight coudln't remember the last time he'd heard of one being spotted in the area. Still, when the fellow was kind enough to approach respectfully rather than making a spectacle of himself and then ask kindly, he felt a need to respond in kind. "Hello there! Pardon me. You must have been flying for quite a long ways to not know where you are. This is the castle town outside of Castle Caelin in Lycia."
Selk saw this meeting not as chance, but definitely as an opportunity. He had intended to travel with a merchant caravan to make some coin, but depending on what this wyvern rider was doing he may decide to go along with him. Although the aspect of flying did pose a bit of a problem since Selk had no way of keeping up with a flying beast like that. "Not to intrude or be rude, but what brings you all the way over here? Aren't Wyvern Riders primarily from Bern?"
If he could find out what brought this fellow into Lycia then maybe he could lend him a hand, find some adventure, and a bit of coin along the way. Selk was by no means a thrifty fellow. He was an altruist at heart...but a man had to make a living, and the next time he saw his family he wanted to be able to give them a big bag of gold coins to help sustain them while he ventured out into the world again.
"I'm Selk Mar, by the way...not a true knight by title, but an armorclad lanceman nonetheless." He extended his hand upward toward the mounted fellow, careful not to make too sudden a movement as to keep from startling the white wyvern on which he rode. "I haven't met many wyverns here in Caelin, but yours seems especially calm and well mannered." Selk was a farm boy. When an animal behaved like that it meant that they trusted their handler to a very high degree. He had never handled wyverns himself, but he'd heard that they were far more unruly than most. That told him that whatever this young man had done to earn the trust of his wyvern must have been quite impressive, because that trust ran deep.

For a moment Shugo simply looked down at the knight. The young boy was going to answer his questions, but it soon dawned onto him that he was being incredibly rude. Here the knight was trying to reach up to shake his hand and he was simply sitting atop Luna. The young Wyvern rider stopped and hopped off his mighty mount. As his feet hit the ground it soon became apparent that he young rider was far shorter than he appeared. Standing only a meer four feet and six inches Shugo was a bit smaller than the knight. Removing his helmet Shugo revealed his childish face.
"Right I am Shugo", spoke the lad as he raised his hand out and shook the young knights hand. The boy looked him up and down for a moment. He seemed like a real knight to Shugo. If he protected the weak and served as a shield for the helpless then he was a true knight. Shugo did not really care for all the political stuff that went with the titles. To him all it mattered was that you followed the creed that was behind it. If you did that then you deserve to call yourself one of them.
"Well I am a Wyvern Rider of Bern, as you can tell for sure", spoke Shugo as he rubbed Luna's side. "Though if you want to be technical I am just a kid with a Wyvern flying around helping people. However I follow all the ideas of a true Wyvern Rider and I do the duties of a wyvern Riders so I say I am a wyvern rider. I don't need some buy in a stuffy suit to tell me what I am and not", spoke Shugo as he allowed his thoughts on the matter to bleed out. "Oh right I almost forgot", spoke Shugo as he looked at the knight. "You asked me why I am here", spoke Shugo as the young boy entered into a small brainstorm. "Well I am here because the problems are here", spoke Shugo as he began to look around. "I swore to myself that I would help people and protect those who can not defend themselves. So when I heard about the troubles of Lycia I flew here to help take some of the pressure off the people."
"Luna", spoke Shugo as the knight asked about his mount. "Well Luna is only really calm now because she doesn't see you as a threat. Not that I am saying you are unskilled or anything", spoke Shugo as he waved his hands in denial of the unspoken voice. "I am just saying that she is not threaten by you. Most of the time she is growling or showing her fangs off to people. Most of the time women. She really does not like women I could never understand why."

Selk stepped back and watched as the rider slid down off of the side of his mount and looked up at the knight. Surprisingly this wyvern rider was two heads shorter than Selk at least. The maroon haired lanceman blinked in shock when he realized this, but he finally shook the hand of the smaller fellow. This wyvern rider looked to only be a kid. Maybe just into his teenage years. "You're quite young to be heading out onto the battlefield, especially on the back of a wyvern. You've got a lot of courage to do something like that. I suppose that's the reality of this harsh world, though. Even the youth of the world is not without the need to fight." He chuckled lightly and then continued to listen to what Shugo had to say.
"Well, Shugo, it is nice to meet you. And maybe the title isn't as important as the deeds behind it. After all, they say that if you do the job before you are given it then you're more likely to earn the position. I don't care about the title itself. I just want to prove myself as a knight and a defender of the people. If having that title is proof of my efforts, then it's just a way for me to reach that goal."
The green eyes of the knight moved from the boy up to the face of the beast he rode in on. He eyed the wyvern intently, almost as if he were looking for something in her. He tilted his head and his gaze narrowed for a moment. Selk crossed his arms and nodded, "I've been in a few battles myself, but as far as seasoned soldiers are concerned I am definitely not one of them. I do have experience tackling the things that have been roaming around, though. Before my family fled their farm, I spent many a day and night rushing around the fields trying to fend them off and keep the cattle safe...it was a tiring job. But the numbers kept increasing and I couldn't hold them all back, so my family elected to abandon the farm and move elsehwere."
He took a moment to glance around the plaza and then back to Shugo, "I came to the castle to refill my supplies and look for a trade caravan to work for so that I could make some gold. Protect people and make a living in the process, you know? But now that you're here it may be better if we stick together. Two heads are better than one, and you can make more points with two lances than you can with just one."

Team up, thought Shugo to himself. The young lad had worked together with several other people in the past, mainly other Wyvern Riders. It was weird how either Eren or Ilheod would always show up on his adventures. Still it was not a bad idea. Lately Shugo had started to loss faith in his work. He fought hard, only the gods know how hard he fought. The young boy threw himself at the corruption in the world and battled for the rights of the peaceful people. However every bandit he took down two more would take there place. It almost looked like his actions were useless. The only thing really pushing him forward is his ideals. He wants to be a true Wyvern Rider and as a result he needed to aid the people. That was enough for him to go on, but to meet somebody who was similar to him. Now this was a blessing. The two of them could lean on each other and feed off each other.
"I think it will be a smashing idea", spoke Shugo with excitement! The young boy even went so far to use a uncommon phrase. "However I am going to have to ask, have you ever flew on the back of a Wyvern before", asked Shugo as he looked Selk up and down? From the look of him Shugo guessed he had not. However there were always surprises in the world. "Well if we plan to team up traveling will become a problem. Since I have Luna I have to travel large distances to keep her fed and it is more effective. So if we do team up your going to", spoke Shugo as he looked at the young man. He wanted to see if he could witness some fear in his eyes. Whenever Shugo ever mention flying to any other knight there faces would turn as pale as winter snow. He wondered if this guy had the same fear of heights as the others. "Well to put it simply, if we team up you are going to have to ride on Luna's back as well. It is the fastest way to travel and it would be next to impossible for you to keep up from the ground.

Selk gave a rather proud and triumphant smile when the young man accepted his offer of companionship. The condition that he had to ride on the back of the wyvern alongside Shugo was a bit of a hitch for him, seeing as he'd never flown before, but Selk was willing to at least give it a try.
"I'm not exactly keen on the idea of flying around, but if it's a necessity then I suppose I haven't a choice in the matter. I'll get used to it eventually, I hope. I don't have combat training for riding anything, but I've ridden horses a time or two. I doubt Luna will be like a horse, but at least it's something similar. My only condition is that if the arrows and spells start flying...you put me on the ground so I can fight properly. Unless we're making a hasty retreat, in which case I'm all on board. Just want to clear that up in case we get into the thick of it and we figure out we're in over our heads."
The knight then looked over to Luna and extended a friendly hand toward her, aiming to pet her head if she would allow it. "There's also the condition that Luna has to agree to let me ride and such. If she isn't accepting of me then I wouldn't force it anyway." He then made a rather bold statement, "I doubt I could keep up with her if you were flying, but I promise you that I'm a lot faster on my feet than you'd think. Over short distances I've run down a couple of those beasts that are roaming around."

As the Knight reached out his hand to touch Luna the Wyvern gave him a death glare. It was pretty clear that it did not have any love for the knight. However a small rub from Shugo on its neck made Luna lower her guard and allow the knight to touch her. The situation might not be as simple as Shugo thought it would be. "Hmm", spoke the boy as he looked at Luna. "It will probably be best if we walked for a while", spoke the boy as he rubbed the back of his head. "Luna does not seem to like you", spoke Shugo as he gave off a nervous smile. Here he was making demand that they fly places and Luna was not cooperating with him. Well it would not the first time Luna did not accept other people. "Luna go get yourself some lunch", spoke Shugo as he rubbed the head of the mighty beast. With a fearsome glare toward the knight and a snark of her mighty nostrils Luna opened her wings and took to the sky. The beast took off into the sky and began her usual routine of finding prey.
"So", spoke Shugo as he watched Luna go. "You mention getting some supplies right", spoke the boy trying to turn the subject to something else. "Don't you think we should do that first. After that we can figure out where we need to go. Though finding trouble to solve seems like a easy thing to do in Lycia. I am willing to bet money that somebody around here needs some help with the monsters or that there are some local bandits causing trouble."
Shugo stopped for a moment and looked at the ground. The boy re gripped his dragon lance and held it across his shoulders. "yep there are always more bandits", he spoke with a sad tone in his voice. With those Shugo began to walk the direction he thought they where going.

So it appeared his first impressions were mistaken. It seemed like, from what he'd said and the way she acted, that Luna thought of herself more as Shugo's protector than his partner. The knight watched her fly off and he gave a hearty chuckle. "Don't worry about here. I can travel on the ground for a while. I have a feeling I already know what it would take for me to get on her good side. In any case..."
Selk held up his new waterskin and pointed to his hip pouch and small shoulderbag resting against his opposite hip. "I've already done my supply shopping. That's why I was walking around. I was already looking for a caravan that might be in need of an extra guard. Then you dropped in." The somber and almost depressed expression that washed over Shugo's face as he spoke had Selk concerned. The boy was too young to be fighting, really, but to already feel so burdened by the seemingly endless negativity in the world made him rather angry.
"Tch...don't remind me. I got my start in battle against that sort of pillaging scum. Swinging axes, swords, and lances like they own the world...taking anything they want even when it doesn't belong to them...My father told me had had to defend the farm from those scum while I was gone the first time." The maroon haired man shook his head solemnly and scowled. His fist clenched for a moment before taking a deep breath, "Sorry, Shugo. The vendor I bought my supplies from is on the other side of the plaza. It seems to be good quality. The food was tasty and the waterskin doesn't leak any."

"Oh you already had that done", spoke Shugo with surprise. He figured the man had not already done it. "Well then I guess we need to actually find some work then", spoke Shugo as he rubbed the back of his head. To be truthful Shugo really did not know how to find work per say. Normally he would check notice boards about bandit activity or simply patrol around in the sky. Normally somebody, or something would show up and then Shguo would go take care of it. It was funny how that worked. Shugo always seemed to run into trouble. Well as the old saying goes when you look for trouble it will find you.
"Oh speaking of which", spoke Shugo as he began to dig into his pocket. The young wyvern rider had saw something in the next town over. From his pocket Shugo pulled out a hand bill, or in more common terms a wanted poster. On the paper was a picture of a young man that looked very close to a women. Everything was in black and white, but the poster said that the character had orange hair. "Well a town over or two there was a call out to find a thief", spoke Spoke Shugo as he looked up at the knight. "He was suppose to have stolen some very valuable artifacts from a shrine or church, can't really remember. I heard he was traveling in this direction, but", spoke Shugo as he rubbed the back of his head. "I have no real tracking abilities. I thought I might be able to see him walking on the road, but that did not help. After a while I gave up. I wounder if you have seen him or heard any rumors about the man. The villagers in the town over seem to be pretty upset about the entire ordeal."

The boy was very eager to rush headlong into danger. Perhaps Selk really would need to keep an eye out for him if they were to work together. No wonder Luna was so protective of the boy. He was...very reckless. Coming from Selk that was saying a lot since the knight hadn't been able to properly wear his armor and wield his lance for more than a few months. he'd been a Trainee himself before that. The emerald eyed man took a close look at the paper that Shugo had in hand.
"As much as I'd like to claim that I'm a hunter, I'm really not. I don't have much know-how in the way of tracking and seeking out persons or animals. I mean, I can follow footprints in the mud as well as the next guy, but actually hunting down a person with very little lead or clues isn't something I feel confident in." The teal armored knight gave a heavy sigh as he glanced around the plaza.
"Orange hair...looks female...I wonder how old this fellow is? If he's mistaken for a woman then I imagine he's quite young. Maybe not much older than you. That would probably mean he's not too tall. No offense, of course. In any case, we've got nothing else to look for and if we can bring those artifacts back to the church over there, then maybe we can earn ourselves more work elsewhere. How long ago was it that you heard he was headed this way? There are a couple of ruined outpost towers between here and that town, but they're about as far from each other as this castle is from the town he came from. In other words, if we stick together we have a fifty-fifty shot at finding him. I'd bet he's hiding out in one of those abandoned towers. With valuables like that it'd be foolish to head into the largest city in the province."

"Actually it has been a bit", spoke Shugo as he put the wanted poster back in his pocket. It had been maybe a week or two since he got the poster, but he had no idea when it was first posted. Shugo should have done a bit more research into it before he suggested it. He really did not think about it at the time. Most of the time shugo was just Mr. action. It was his critical flaw. Shugo would jump before he looked. This got him into trouble back in his hometown and it seemed it was causing him problems now. Still the Wvyern Rider would never learn. At this point in time he was incapable of.
"Right I guess we should go look for the artifact", spoke Shugo as he turned to move toward the church. Shugo has spent little time in a actual church. Sure there was one in his hometown, but he only visited it maybe once a month. His parents were not very religious people. Shugo himself never visited it. He spent almost all of his time in the air. The evil never slept and neither did Shugo. The boy only stopped when he had to.
"Excuse me", spoke Shugo as he rushed up to the most important person he could see. The young boy had questions about there first job. "Can you tell me what artifact went missing from the church. Me and my associate Selk would like to know about the mission to retrieve it."

Selk sighed and shook his head. The knight tapped his chin with a finger as he wondered if there was any chance of getting them at this point. "I guess I shouldn't have gone assuming" The maroon haired man decided to follow Shugo in his search for the artifacts, even if they didn't have a lead yet. Wisely, Shugo elected to go to the church that had lost said relics to the thief in question.
The two approached a priest from the church, apparently a high ranking priest as he had a decorative headdress, and Shugo immediately got to the point. The priest nodded, "You have seen the wanted poster then, yes? The one we look for has taken a ceremonial chalice, made of pure gold and with four gems in it, from us. He also took a special stone from us called the Heart of the Altar. It is a large gem, the size of the average man's fist, and it is a brilliant, fiery, and vibrant orange color. It is set in a golden wreath, and the wreath attaches to our largest, core altar within the chapel."

Well crap, thought Shugo to himself. The young rider figured the man would have stolen some kind of sacred sword or some sacred goat horn or something, but to steal a pure gold sacred chalice and a divine jewel. Shugo did not know much about black markets and merchants, but he knew that selling stolen things was harder than it sounded. If the jewel was precious then everyone would in the area would know what it looked liked. That meant that the thief was probably planning on selling it after he left the area. Shugo was really sure he was not going to keep tit, that was for sure. That was like asking to be caught. However selling it would be just as hard. Nobody in there right mind would by those jewels. There was no way they could fake as if the where theirs to begin with.
"From what I can guess the thief probably fled the region", spoke Shugo to his heavily armored friend. "Then again I don't know much about thieves. Most of the time I deal with bandits and when bandits steal things they usually go to there hide out and sit on it for a while. Thieves however I heard they act different. Like this one thief I meet. He stole a sandwich from a shop keeper and immediately ate it. Following that logic the thief is probably going to try to sell the artifacts to the nearest person who will buy it or exchange the gems for gold. Do you have any idea who or where we can find somebody like that", spoke Shugo to Selk. The young boy was new to the region and knew very little about it. He was going to have to really on the knights keen knowlage of the region and there local scum bags.
