For the most part, since joining up with Ulfric's Mercenaries, Siegfried had explored a great deal of Ilia and Lycia. They were the most "welcoming" countries in all of Elibe at the moment, though only slightly. Etruria was...an odd place. Ulfric didn't care much for it and didn't believe they would find good work there. Bern had a high need for mercenaries...but not for clearing bandit forts or protecting merchants, but for war and rebellion. Ulfric made it perfectly clear that he wanted to keep the company out of political matters if he could help it, and there were few matters as politically twisted as war.
This left Sacae, which Siegfried was seeing for the first time. According to Ulfric the country had just suffered through some hardships, though nothing like Lycia, and thus a demand for hired swords could be higher. Siegfried couldn't help but gaze around in wonder and awe at the bustling city of Bulgar. Sacae was a completely different climate from Ilia, especially the far northern parts, but the people themselves were very different as well. Of course Bulgar had plenty of men and women from each country, as it saved as a great trade center for all of Elibe, but Sacaens were still fairly dominant amongst the populace.
And...well, while Lycian women didn't quite hold a candle to Ilia's finest, Sacaen women had Siegfried significantly more distracted. He wasn't necessarily the type to get too caught up in the beauty of a woman, even if he could recognize and appreciate it, but seeing the somewhat exotic look the Sacaen women had to them was quite the sight. He distracted stares earned him quite a few japes and teases from the company, though, so Siegfried did his best to focus.
"There's a large inn in Bulgar, should have enough room for us all if we're lucky," Ulfric stated with a grunt. He looked over the 7 men he had brought with him on this trip, Siegfried included, before speaking again, "Feel free to restock on supplies, or buy whatever nonsense you wish, but we're to meet up there later on,"
Taking heed of these words Siegfried decided it'd a good idea to explore. He had a map of the city on him, so getting lost wasn't an issue. He wandered through Bulgar, watching the people and of course the merchants. It was hard not to chuckle as they eagerly did their best to sell their merchandise to even the least interested customer. He himself had to turn down a few merchants as he traveled.
"Hey! Damned craven...thief! Thief!"
Those words rang sharp through Siegfried's head. Immediately he looked and saw one such merchant pointing furiously down the street, and sure enough there was a man sprinting away with something in his hand. Siegfried didn't waste a single second and immediately darted down the street after the thief.

"Nay, no more than fifteen. Fifteen, I tell you. You shall not bleed me dry!"
The Nomad shook her head vehemently, looking at the wares again. The fruit was plump and juicy, but she could not justify his exorbitant prices - more than fifteen shekel for a kilogram of pomegranate. The negotiations continued, both parties spewing rapid sentences of tribal dialect back and forth. Finally, an agreement was reached - fifteen shekel a pound - and the Nomad paid a few copper coins, walking away with a fresh pomegranate. Using her knife, she expertly cut it open and set to gouging out the sweet fruit, crunching flesh and seeds alike as she wandered the market. Shikoba was resting at the inn she had rented a room at - it was the largest in town, and had plenty of spaces when she'd arrived.
"How much?"
More discussion ensued, this time in Common, as she looked over the furs an Ilian merchant was selling. Her riding rug was getting worn, but these prices were fit only for some sort of king. Not a traveling huntress.
"And this? How much for this?"
A bow had caught her attention, well-crafted, the wood gleaming under a sheen of oil. But its price was also too high for anyone but a prince. And plus, she consoled herself, she had Mphezi. The bow crackled in response, as if it had heard and appreciated her thought.
That was when she was bowled over by a man with blonde hair. What on earth was he doing sprinting through busy streets?
"Ai! Watch yourself! The deals aren't that good!"

Siegfried heard someone he had bumped into shout at him and he winced mentally. He'd have to apologize and make it up to them later, but for now he had to focus on catching this damned thief! Though he was tiring Siegfried hit his second wind and gradually gained on the thief. While some where shouting for the thief to stop, obviously to no avail, Siegfried needed every breath he could draw just to keep up with the nimble criminal.
Thankfully Siegfried caught a break when a one civilian stuck their foot out in front of the thief's legs, tripping them and sending them flying to the ground. Siegfried wasted no time in launching himself at the downed man, landing on top of him and quickly pinning him to the ground with all his might. The thief cursed and screamed for Siegfried to get off of him but the blonde mercenary only pinned him harder, glaring daggers at the thief.
"Guards!" Siegfried shouted. Sure enough a trio of armed guardsman, Sacaens equipped with bows and short swords, arrived on the scene and gave Siegfried a nod of gratitude. The mercenary hoisted the thief up before shoving him towards the guards, who wasted no time in apprehending him. It was only now that Siegfried noticed what the thief had stolen: a simple coin purse, but a full and heavy one at that. Siegfried bent down to pick the coin purse up and turned around to face an older man who had done his damndest to keep up the chase.
"Th-thank you, sir...thank you...please, how may I repay you?"
"There's no need, good sir," Siegfried said with a smile, having caught his breath by this point, "This was no mission, just a good deed. Though do try to be more careful with your coin purse,"

The Nomad got up, watching the man keep running. Wait a second, he probably just snatched her purse! The fiend!
"I'm coming for you now..."
As she raced after him, she drew Mphezi-Manja from her back, holding it in her left hand and drawing an arrow from her quiver with her right. The chase ended quickly, when the thief landed on top of another man.
"I will not be robbed by some Ilian cutthroat, especially not on my own land! You picked the wrong person to rob!"
The arrow was nocked, and the bowstring drew back, the Nomad preparing to fire when one of the guardsmen started waving his hands and shouting at Tamaya in rapid Sacaean. At the sound of the tribal dialect, the huntress slowly lowered her bow, answering equally rapidly, and then finally placing the weapon away and throwing her hands up in utter befuddlement.
"I apologize. I thought you had robbed me - it isn't uncommon in these marketplaces, especially for foreigners taking advantage of our trusting and honest natures."
The Nomad spit at the apprehended thief, also clearly a foreigner.
"I hope you rot."
Afterward, she nodded to the guards, spoke a few more fluid Sacaean sentences, and then turned to the blonde foreigner, her eyes still cautions but now curious as well.
"How are you called? And how came you to Bulgar, in the busiest season? Are you simply trying to see the land and its people? Or have you some job?"
The Nomad idly stowed the arrow she still held back in her quiver.

Siegfried, to his own slight surprise and shame, didn't realize that a woman had actually attempted to take a shot at him. To his great relief one of the Sacaen guards calmed her down and explained the situation to her before dragging off the real thief. Apparently the archer was the Sacaen woman he had nearly knocked over in his haste to tackle that thief, and she had thought he stole from her.
There was a bit of irony there, and Siegfried appreciated it enough to chuckle, "It's quite all right miss, though I am glad you didn't let loose that arrow,"
Still, he didn't quite like hearing that thievery was common in Bulgar. He supposed in a city so large with so much traffic that it was to be expected, but it robbed him the wrong way. "I'm sorry to hear that, truly. The merchants and citizens here deserve better than to have their pockets picked all day,"
He sized up the Sacaen as she spoke to him. She, too, had that odd charm the rest of her people had, and Siegfried couldn't help but chuckle quietly at her choice of words. Her common was good enough so he didn't have trouble understanding it, but her phrasing and word choices were...well, most Ilians wouldn't speak like that, at any rate. He also couldn't help but notice her bow. It was intriguing...but he'd ask about that due time. He had questions to answer first!
"My name is Siegfried, and I hail from Ilia. The mercenaries I'm with came here in the hopes of finding some work, we'll be staying at an inn in Bulgar for a couple of days," And no longer than that. The rates at this inn were quite high, as living quarters were in high demand at this busy city. Ulfric, frugal as he was, figured it would be best to make the most of their stay in Bulgar but keep it short as well. Even if they found work it wouldn't be worth it if they spent a fortune in inn fees.
"Though this is my first time in Sacae, and I'm quite eager to see the land and it's people. I've met a fair few Sacaens out in Lycia, fewer still in Ilia...but still, it's a new experience," Siegfried continued with a smile, "And your name, miss? Do you live in Bulgar or are you here for shopping?"

"Seeg...freed. Well met, Seegfreed. I am glad our guards were fast enough; I would feel terrible to have shot you without cause. If you happen to be staying at the largest inn, the Red Moon... That is where I too rest. And quite the coincidence - I leave also by end-week."
So Seegfreed the Ilian, a mercenary looking for work. She too was looking for work, but she had not considered joining a mercenary company. That was... an interesting option.
"Sacae is broad; to see it is easy, for much is the same grass. To understand it is difficult, for the same grass has different fibers. Tribes, we are, and varied like the colors of the flowers. I am Cathecassa - we are hunters, mainly, and herders. I have come here to seek work... I want to fight, for I need training and practice with Mphezi-Manja."
The Nomad looked at the man, cautiously appraising him. He looked strong, but something about his demeanor was more relaxing than fierce. He seemed to have the air of the 'hero' about him. One who would protect the weak and innocent, rather than chase fortune and fame. But she had seen him eyeing her... Actually, though, she could not blame him. Mercenaries did not often have a chance to relax and spend time with women, so undoubtedly he was subconsciously being appreciative.
That was fine. She was not afraid of this man, nor did she expect to be. He exuded warmth and confidence, especially from his eyes.

Siegfried chuckled a bit more as Sacaen struggled to pronounce his name. She drew out the "e" sounds a bit too much, but other than that she was successful. He supposed his name wasn't the easiest to pronounce, especially for Sacaens, whose version of Common was so different from his own. It was probably for the best that he didn't give her his last name as well.
"Mhm, we're staying at the Red Moon as well, so it is a good coincidence...and a good thing you didn't shoot me," Siegfried said with a chuckle, scratching the back of his head a little. He felt a little nervous...why was that? Likely because this woman came very, very close to shooting him down with so little provocation. Either way she didn't seem mean or unkind, so he tried to relax a little bit.
"Cathe...case ah?" It was now Siegfried's turn to try and pronounce an unfamiliar word, "Interesting. I did hear that each tribe is unique in it's own way, be it customs or preferred battle styles. You certainly look the part of a huntress, too," Well, for the most part she did. The woman had looked at him with such fierce eyes at first, but she was quite a bit shorter than he was. Slender, too. Yet at the same time she had that bow and she knew how to use it. Speaking of which...
"Mephey...sorry, what was the name of your bow again? Also, why did you name your bow? I'm not judging or anything, I'm curious behind the reasoning," This was something that intrigued Siegfried quite a bit. Ever since he was a boy he wanted a sword with a name of it's own: be it one he gave it or one some legendary hero had given it centuries prior. However he had not found such a sword; either one with a name already or one truly worth naming.
Not only did she have a named bow but she was looking to put it work as well. Not mercenary work, he hoped. There was a very large difference between hunting animals and hunting men. Animals and game were far more predictable, for one.

"Indeed. I would feel quite awful had I injured you... I am not usually so hasty, but I feared you had meant me harm. And as a huntress, I am... A little quick to draw my bow. I apologize."
The man had an interesting way of pronouncing the tribe's name, but she paid it no heed - surely, she'd mispronounced his name in some terrible way as well. He complimented her on her appearance as a huntress - did that mean he was complimenting her on her appearance? Or being a huntress? Both? Neither? Ai, such a confusing fellow. He meant well, surely.
"Mphezi-Manja. It translates roughly to "Lightning-hands" in the common tongue. Why name it? Well..."
Tamaya drew out her iron bow and Mphezi, holding them in separate hands. The difference in construction would be the first notable difference to meet Siegfried's eyes, but the next would be the crackling emanating from Mphezi, which he'd hear a little later after he processed the initial appearance.
"I did not name my old bow, which I made myself when I was sixteen. But Mphezi was made for me by an expert craftsman, Mr. Johnson. It is a magic weapon, a bow filled with the power of thunder. It has feelings, apparently, likes and dislikes. There are spirits living within that power it and give it energy to call upon the rage of the skies."
Mphezi crackled loudly, as if in response. A small spark of blue electricity went arcing along the string, and the Nomad looked lovingly at it before continuing.
"So I seek work as a mercenary, fighting bandits or other ill-doers. Mphezi-Manja disdains being used merely to hunt game, but alone an archer cannot compete with many bandits. I seek to grow closer to my bow, to strengthen our bond so we can share more and use more of each other's power - but to do so, I must fight. That is why I seek work, and that is why I bear a named bow."

Lightning hands, huh? So this bow was a magical one and contained some sort of thunder magic within it. Siegfried eyed the bow approvingly as the nomad held it out towards him. Tamaya seemed quite fond of it and Siegfried couldn't really blame her. He was fond enough of his sword, and it was made of simple iron with no magic imbued inside of it whatsoever. If he had a magic weapon...
"I see. Well...technically that makes you competition," Siegfried replied with a chuckle, "But I'll be nice and invite you to accompany me to the Red Moon anyway. The way things are going right now Ulfric will probably want to split the company up to take on several smaller jobs at once. I don't mind sharing a job with you, if that's the case, or even splitting the profits,"
It was a little bit silly on Siegfried's part, and he'd no doubt earn more jokes thrown at him as a result, but he wanted to learn more about this woman and about Sacae. It was such a different country from Ilia and Lycia, even her odd speech pattern further proved his point. Not to mention Siegfried really wanted to see that magical bow be put to work.
"So, what say you?"

"Competition? Ai, no. I cannot take on the job of a mercenary crew as one fighter. I would be chingwa. How do you say it? Toast?"
Tamaya laughed, her eyes twinkling with mirth as she finished her little joke. Looking at the man, and cocking her head slightly as she looked him over, she furrowed her brow. After a few seconds, the smile burst back onto her face and she nodded, inclining her head slightly and slinging Mphezi onto her back.
"We are agreed! I would be honored to work alongside you. And as for profits and coin and all of that business, I would only accept enough to cover my room at the inn and my meals. No profit is needed. I simply want to learn to become one with my bow, so any opportunity is enough reward for me."
Smiling, the Nomad fell in beside the man to follow him to the inn.
"So, Seegfreed, tell me about yourself. What is your story? What is your clan, or town, or history?
Pardon my mtima - boldness - I do not wish to pry, but I love learning of others and their past. The story of how lives meander and how paths interweave has always been a beautiful tale to me, and I take advantage of any opportunity I can get to learn more about my fellow men and women. We are all one tribe, in the end, and so I hope to understand everyone to avoid the warring and the strife we so often fall into."

Siegfried blinked. Tamaya had laughed, as if she had told a good joke. However Siegfried...had no idea what she had just said. Ultimately he decided to laugh along with her, even if he didn't understand the joke. She had enjoyed it immensely and he didn't want to ruin her good mood. However he smiled genuinely when the blonde Sacaen agreed to his proposal.
"Excellent, that's good to hear...though even I insist on leaving you with a bit more of a reward than that, if only for good measure," Even if Tamaya only wanted enough money for room and board, it was always better to have a little extra just in case. Siegfried wasn't going to deny her that even if she didn't want it. Then again that depended on how well any jobs they found would pay...or if they found any jobs at all.
Siegfried blinked as the woman asked him about his history, and couldn't but smile when she said they were all "one tribe". It sounded like a beautiful analogy, and he truly wished the rest of the world would think along those lines.
"Well...there's nothing too special about my history, really," Siegfried started with a chuckle, "My family was an ordinary one for Ilia. I am the son of two mercenaries, none who got all that famous but they were nevertheless successful enough to retire at their current age. They had earned quite a bit over the years and saved well, so I never really was without anything I needed or wanted as a child. Plenty of food and a good home. I had them teach me how to swing a sword when I was young and went on to hone myself against my friends and neighbours for years. Then Ulfric and his company stopped by my village. I challenged Ulfric himself and was quickly bested. I begged the man to let me join his mercenary company, and that's what I've been doing for the past year or so,"
"I send most of my money back home, as nearly all Ilian's do, and the rest I use for food, rooms at inns, new weapons and armour...the occasional pint of ale," Siegfried explained with a chuckle.
"As for your boldness, I think it's fine. If we all strived to learn about one another like that then perhaps there wouldn't be so many wars...now how about you? What is your story?"

"Ai, you are too generous. I don't need gold, but what you offer I will take. It is impolite to refuse a gift."
The Nomad shook her head, walking alongside the man as he began to speak. Ai, he was indeed too generous. She would have to make sure he came to no harm on their job. It would be the least she could do for one so kind and warmhearted.
The man had grown up well, it seemed, with a strong and supportive family. He did not seem to be haughty, or soft, despite never being without "anything he needed or wanted." Perhaps it was the fact that his family earned their wealth, and did not simply have it handed down to them. He seemed as self-sufficient as any plainsman, despite his upbringing. Ulfric, the man of the mercenary company, seemed to be one that was strong and worthy - and he certainly had earned the respect of the swordsman. And he sent his earnings to support his family. he was indeed noble and good.
"My story...
I am the niece of the Chief of the Cathecassa. I grew up a hunter and a girl of the plains, and learned the ways of our tribe as well as any other. When I was younger, yet still old enough to ride and shoot, the great fire displaced our tribe from our ancestral lands and forced us to the border of Lycia. I left to explore, and have since continued to travel this continent and grow. I return to my tribe every so often with stories, and ideas, and news, and they in turn trade me the happenings of the tribe. When the war against Hargus broke out, I rode with my tribe to defend the City of Heroes, and together we saw the evil menace shoved out of our land. Now... I have had Mphezi crafted, and I seek to return to my tribe a warrior like the great Hanon, one who will be fit to command respect and serve as an elder to the tribe, despite my youth."

Siegfried smiled upon hearing that Tamaya would accept any fair shares, assuming they wound up working a job together. It was only fair in Siegfried's eyes that she be paid as much as he would be. The mercenary had heard the occasional racist jibe from Lycians about the Sacaen's being "backwards" or "savage", but Tamaya here proved as polite as anyone, if not more so.
Siegfried listened to the blonde huntress' story. Her story was full of strife, and she even played a part in the defense of the City of Heroes! A recent event in Elibe's history and apparently a battle of incredible scale, one that Siegfried had not been present for but had heard of nonetheless. She also aspired to return to her tribe and become it's greatest ruler. A large ambition but not a bad one, by any means. Siegfried could respect that determination and drive. It was no small wonder she was looking for work to improve her skills.
"Is that right? I admire those aspirations," He replied with a smile, "I'm sure ruling a tribe is no easy task," If it was anything like running a mercenary company then Siegfried was certain it'd be nigh impossible without the respect of your peers and a great deal of wisdom. He needed only to look at Ulfric, who had total command of his rowdy band, for proof of that fact. As for Siegfried, well, he wasn't sure if he ever wanted to lead. His current focus was just improving his technique and getting stronger. He still had much to learn about combat let alone leadership.
"In any case perhaps you'd like to head to the Red Moon now? It'd be nice to sit down and keep talking over a pint, plus I can find out if my comrades found any jobs in the area,"

ā€¯Indeed, it is difficult to lead. Especially when one is young, for good leaders are marked by their wisdom, which comes chiefly with age and experience. I hope to gain wisdom and grow much before I return to my tribe, for it is only if I am truly fit to lead that they will accept and aid me. We must always be one together, not merely individuals fighting out of duty. We must fight for love of each other and love of tribe."
When the mercenary suggested returning to the tavern, the huntress nodded, walking with him to the bustling business. The inn's rooms seemed to have rapidly filled, and there were quite a few men and women milling about within, many enjoying drinks and most engaged in lively conversation. Tamaya couldn't tell who Siegfried's tribesmen - er, allies - were, and so she fell in slightly behind him, following his lead as they entered. Her eyes, however, continued to scan all she could see, and she learned much by keeping her ears open as they moved inside. On her back, Mphezi was quiet, thankfully not attracting attention. Who knew exactly who was watching her - and the worst thing that could happen would be another deadly bar-fight like the one she had gotten involved with earlier in Ilia. She had been younger and more foolish then, but it was still no excuse for such a hasty decision. Only by the grace of the Sky and Earth had she survived that - her ally, Marric, had saved her and protected her.
Where was he now...?

"Wisdom will likely be your most valuable asset when it comes to ruling your tribe...and I agree. Preaching unity to them will strengthen them, surely," Siegfried stated with a nod. Sacaen tribes sounded like they were tightly knit communities. If that was the case then he was certainly right in stating that unity would be their strength. What they lacked in numbers they could make up for in passion, love, and co-operation.
It wasn't long before he entered the Red Moon with Tamaya at his heels. It was bustling with happy, drunken customers. Siegfried had no doubt that at least some of his company was inside the building and started to peer through the masses in search of them. After a minute or so went by Siegfried began to lose hope. Perhaps they were still out searching for jobs, or perhaps they had found some easy ones and decided to get a quick head start.
"Back already, lad?" A rough, deep voice called out to him. Siegfried's gaze shifted to the bar and, seated right at it, was a large man with long brown hair and a good sized beard to match, a few gray hairs visible in both. It was Ulfric himself. The tall man was clad in his dark gray armour, though Siegfried had noted that Ulfric had ditched the furs he normally wore beneath them. It made sense, as Sacae was quite a bit warmer than Ilia.
"Aye, that I am," Siegfried replied with a small smile. "Unfortunately no luck on jobs yet, though I did manage to get my sword belt patched up,"
Ulfric's dark eyes glanced at Siegfried's chest, where his sword belt lay beneath the armour, and nodded before he glanced back at Tamaya. Upon seeing her Ulfric gave a smirk and took a gulp of his ale. "No jobs, but you found yourself a lass rather quickly, hmm? Should have guessed Sacaens were your type," He replied with a chuckle.
Siegfried rolled his eyes and chuckled slightly. Honestly he had expected that sort of comment, "It's not like that, I'm afraid. I met this one after tackling a thief. Sadly she thought -I- was the thief and nearly emptied her quiver into me,"
The blonde mercenary turned his head back at Tamaya and gestured to Ulfric. "Tamaya, may I introduce you to my boss, Ulfric. Commander, this is Tamaya,"
Ulfric sized Tamaya up, but his look-over was chaste and his gaze didn't linger anywhere in particular. He set his mug of ale down on the bar and offered Tamaya a hand. "Good to meet you, lass,"
