Name:Lorna Scathach
Class: Recruit -> Soldier -> Lancer
Age: 15
Born In: Laus, Lycia
Appearance:
Lorna has long burgundy hair tied into a half up, fierce red eyes and sharp facial features. She stands at a good height of 5'8 with a solid build, but she's not too strong as of yet. While attractive she's still quite youthful and has some growing to do in every area.
She typically wears her combat gear, which consists of dark shirts and slacks, dark coloured boots, and plain silve pauldrons and a chest plate. The colours of her clothing alternate between colours but they are always dark colours, typically dark purples, reds, and blacks.
Personality: Lorna is loud and not afraid to get in someone's face. She's crude with how she speaks and how she acts, the type of girl to snort in derision and roll her eyes when she sees something she doens't like. Lorna has no problem saying what she feels or thinks, for better or for worse, but she does have a habit of teasing and insulting others including those she may consider to be friends. When she can't solve an issue with her harsh words or dismissive insults, she's more than willing to bring get her fists involved.
Lorna likes to keep a tough front, which includes not getting too close to others. She's vocal and social enough but she doesn't really open up to anybody unless she's gotten very close to them. A funny quirk of hers is that she doesn't like bullying or bullies, and she's more likely to turn her aggression on them than anything else. However Lorna is a bit of a sadist, a trait that's only growing, and really doesn't mind who she's fighting or why if she's in the mood.
If you do managed to become friends with Lorna, you'll find that you have a friend who will fearlessly stand up for you no matter what. All of your enemies become her enemies, unless she thinks you've made an enemy over stupid reasons. She's also very competitive and has a deep passion for winning/succeeding at whatever she sets out to do.
Behind her tough exterior, Lorna is still a troubled little girl. She has trouble's showing her empathy towards others and is pretty useless at helping someone through a difficult time or event in their life, making her awkward to open up to or cry around. This is because she feels that, if she empathizes with someone, she'll wind up looking weak. Lorna is too proud and too afraid to show any weakness to anyone and will lock away her insecurities as best as she can.
She's a little bit ignorant and lacking when it comes to certain intelligences, such as reading and writing, but has very strong intuition and instincts.
Story: When Hargus' horrible conquest first began, bandits everywhere were incensed by the valor of this bandit king. As such the roads became more terrifying than ever before, and merchant upon merchant found themselves beset by highwaymen between travels.
Lorna's mother, Aoife, was one such woman. The daughter of a merchant, and only 19 years at the time and engaged as well, found herself on her back in the middle of a road. She watched with horror as her family and fiance were butchered one by one by the bandits that assaulted them. When her turn came around she pleaded and begged to be spared...and the leader decided he would indeed spare her, but at a price.
He had his way with her and left her in the middle of the road when he was finished.
Aoife managed to stumble her way to the nearest town, a small quaint thing along the outskirts of Laus, and was given mercy and pity by the townspeople. She found a home and a place to work at the small inn in the town, but her horrors did not end with that. Within a couple of weeks Aoife was horrified to find out that she was carrying a reminder of that awful day inside of her, and that she'd continue to carry it for 8 months. Fearing stigma and shame, Aoife carried the child to term and named her Lorna.
Lorna grew up with a mother who worked too hard at a job that paid too little, and drank too much for how little money she had. Whenever Lorna asked about her father her drunkern mother would curse and spit, saying “He died screaming like craven,”. Lorna would soon hear the truth, though, but never from her mother. She first heard it when she was but 7 years old and few men at the inn commented on poor Aoife. “Poor wench lost her mind after that bandit put a baby in her belly. She was fine before she found out she would have a child, I remember,”
To this day Lorna can't recall a time she felt so empty as when she heard those words. It made her think, if only a little bit, that her mom's sorry state was her own fault. And so it wasn't long before Lorna started working for the inn as well, and she gave her mother what little she earned.
Growing up, Lorna disliked her mother but she couldn't hate her. Aoife rarely beat her child, even if she did cuss Lorna out a few times too many, and the times she did were times that Lorna had acted up. The girl grew unruly from her unhappiness with her lifestyle. She hated the work at the inn and hated having to spend every day watching her mother down pint after pint, often making a bit of a fool of herself in one way or another. How many men had Lorna thought would be her step-father? Enough to fill half the village, no doubt.
Once Lorna got into a scuffle with another child, when she was about 9 years old, and was stopped by the town guardsman. To Lorna's chagrin he was another man she had caught sneaking out of her mother's room at the inn one day. The guardsman felt a bit of pity for the child and told her he wouldn't tell her mother about it, but Lorna instead insisted on a different gift.
“How did you become a guard?”
The man explained how he signed on and received some training at Laus before officially earning his station. Lorna thought on it for a moment and decided that it was as good an idea as any other. She would save up just a bit of money from the inn with every pay and, when she was old enough, find her way to Laus and sign on for their military. The idea of becoming a town guard didn't quite suit her, but simply getting away from her mother was more than enough.
When Lorna turned 14, she finally had the funds to make her dreams a reality. She crept out of the inn one night, taking clothes, food, and enough money for a carriage to Laus, without so much as a good bye to her mother. Lorna just couldn't bring herself to do it: after all she feared that her mother would be more than thrilled to see her gone.
Upon arriving at Laus Lorna managed to sign up and picked up the lance as her weapon of choice. The girl did find she had quite the talent for it, and she found the physical act of combat and exercise was far more satisfying and thrilling than the tedious housework she did back at the inn. No more carrying plates to drunken men. It would be the tip of her spear that she'd be delivering now.
Lorna gained some more confidence upon graduating her training at the top of her class. While not the best rider she proved herself to be quite the young talent when it came to combat on foot. Her personality became even more rowdy than it had been before, and she became a bit of a feared individual among her peers.
After all, she was the only recruit who grinned when the blood from a sparring partner's wound splashed onto her skin.
