The hero was putting up a good fight, Marle could tell as much from the sight. most of the enemies seemed focused on him, and she was okay with this. Though that sword broke, he managed to kill the attacked by...sending him flying? What a feat of strength. It was quite incredible. She was able to take the time to watch since the focus was off of her now, for whatever reason. Watching him charge off after that annoying archer, Marle decided to hang back with Xeldine. The girl was using him as a buffer from most attacks, since she was clearly the easy target here. With shield and lance in hand, She took up a defensive form before the girl. Xeldine, probably wouldn't be too thankful for such a display, but it was her own strength. She was better at defending than attacking. She was so well geared for it. Why charge forward and tire herself in this heavy armor, and why not wait for the enemy to close around?
Thinking about that way of thought...well...it wouldn't be good to let them fully encompass her. The General could handle a lot, but an attack from all sides would be a pain in the ass to deal with, and she wouldn't be able to defend Xeldine. Realistically, the best choice Orcleous should have made was to keep the girl close, so he could defend her if any strayed nearby, but this was a battle, and hindsight was always 20/20.
"Perhaps it's better to just let him go. We'd only hider him. When you get stronger, and you will, you'll probably be a great asset in a battle, but for now, best to watch, and deal with the men that are too cowardly to stand up to him."
She could literally hear the bones snapping from here, and it sent shivers down her spine, it always did. She kept up her guard, glancing around for those who would try to sneak up on them while Orc fought, and thankfully she had, Putting her body between Xeldine and a ranged attack, a flying hatchet flew through the air at the younger girl, only to become safely(?) lodged in her shield. With a sigh, the shield grew too heavy for any kind of balance that she needed, and let the thing go with a mighty crash to the ground. it was heavy, since it was so large, but it was nice not to have to hold it. She didn't even need it realistically, her armor would have deflected that blow by itself, but the extra defense was nice.
Rising up out of the grass, three men appeared with weapons drawn, probably having crawled in to get close why she was distracted. Clicking her tongue, and with her steel weapon in her right hand, she acknowledge them with a soft nod of her head.
"Back me up, I might have trouble with this."
It wasn't true, she could probably deal with it, but she wanted Xeldine to fight. Being defended would make her relaxed, and successful fights might improve that ego of hers...though she sorely didn't need it, with that bratty attitude. The first of the three rushed towards the General, two handed axe in hand. Marle too, walked slowly, calmly at her attacker. Metal clanking together from all the armor she wore. As the axe was brought down to her, she playfully deflected the blow with just her arm, screeching of metal as they met. The man had swung with quite a bit of force, for he stumbled with the poor balance of the weapon. Before he could compose himself, the General, brought that arm back and slugged him with her plated fist, cutting into his cheek from the spacing of where the Metal separates. She made the man stunble back, and lose grip on that axe, where she took it upon Herself to pick up the discared weapon, and swing the two handed axe into the belly of the second man coming up her flank.
"Come on Xeldine, don't make me do all the work!"

"Show off", spoke Xeldine as she watched Orcleous go to work. Her attention however was brought back to the battlefield as a axe was blocked by the general. What was she doing. Orcleous had always told her to be vigilent in battle. If the maiden had not stayed behind to defend her she might have been seriously injured or worse, dead. "Right get your head back into the game", spoke Xeldine to herself as she began to focus on what the General was saying. She was still upset with Orcleous for just throwing her off, but he was right. There was nothing she could do to aid him in his blind blood charge. She was better off aiding the general with her battle. Still three axemen was a frightening number. What if they all decided to stop and attack her. She would need to stick close enough to the general to make them not want to turn there back to her, but far away enough that she did not get caught up in anybody's crossfire.
"Fine I will take the other one", shouted Xeldine as she rushed toward the third brigand with her sword. It was less she deciding to take him and more him moving toward her. She rushed forward attempting to gain the advantage in battle by setting the pace. Like Orcleous she preferred to begin a confrontation with a horizontal slash. Pulling the blade from her side she slashed aiming to cut across the brigand's chest. Her moves however where to obvious and the brigand simply jumped back a bit to get out of the range of the blade and jumped forward to attack with a leaping axe strike. With her first attack missing Xeldine moved to defend her skull from the brigan's blade. The sword caught the axe right between the shaft and the axe head, a perfect block in Orcleous book. Not only did it not damage the edge of the blade, but it also stopped the axe you could not ask for more. However Xeldine was not physically powerful enough to pull off the block completely. She may have stopped the axe, but the weight of the man's body threw her off balance. The attack sent her falling backwards into the grass and the brigand standing above her.
"See you in hell lass", he spoke as he prepared to bring his axe down and finish the job. Xeldine however kicked the axe man in the knee with a swift kick throwing his off balance and making him cancel his attack. The maiden then grabbed the sliver longsword and stabbed it up. The sword cut into the man's throat sending a river of blood down the blade and onto Xeldine's leather armor.
"Crap I got his blood all over me", spoke the maiden as she pushed the dead body off herself.
Forward up the path Orcleous was charging straight through the ranks of the brigands. Most of them began to avoid Orcloeus path as they began to fear the might of his hammer. However one of the brigand, and unfortunate for him, was Orcleous target. That man in specifically was a archer. As Orcleous rushed toward him he fired a arrow down at the hero. Rather than dodge, as it would be annoying, Orcleous simply brought Xigshaw up forward. The massive width of the hammer blocked the arrow and gave Ocrleous the opportunity to attack. Using Xigshaw strengthening powers Orcleous jumped into the air. His body flew toward the man at full speed as he brought down the massive hammer.
"Oh S#$%", shouted the archer as he jumped to the side. Orcleous jump attacked missed and Xigshaw slammed into the rocky earth. The blow however sent up a dust cloud as its massive wait pulverized a few stones. However that was not the end of Orcleous assault. The hero quickly turned his weapon and swung to his right hand side. The archer had no idea he could even recover that fast and before he could dodge again the hammer smashed through his skull.
"What the hell is that guy wielding", shouted one of the bandits as Orcleous rushed and smashed another on of his friends under its massive weight. It was starting to become very clear that they had bitten off more than they could chew.
"Boss what are we going to do", spoke one of the brigands to the man in charge. The Bandit bit his lip as he stared at Orcleous killing his men. "Everyone pull back leave him to me", shouted the chief of the bandits as he rushed forward with a killer axe in hand. Stepping into Orlcoeus view the bandit chief gave him a look that said it all. It was clear that he was not happy about Orcleous ferocity and the fact that he had been turning his men into flatten piles of flesh, blood, and broken bones.
"So who are you", spoke Orcleous as he looked at the man. He raised his mighty warhammer up and moved it into a position move favorable for battle.
"You don't need my name", spoke the brigand as he looked at Orcleous. "You are going to be a corpse in a few moments so it won't matter."
"Brave words coming from a leader of dead men", spoke Orcleous as he looked at the man. His eyes quickly shifted to the brigands. One of them had a hand axe and the other a bow. The one with the bow, Orcleous doubted he could actually use it proper. He did not have the build of a archer , but the one with the axe. Well he could be trouble.
"So what is the name of that hammer", asked the bandit chief as he looked at Orcleous. The hero gave a smile and shifted his weapon into a resting position.
"You don't need to know. You will be a corpse in a moment", he spoke looking into the man's eyes. A sly smile crossed the bandits face as Orcleous finished. No more was said both verbally and none verbally. The bandit simply rushed forward and attacked and Orcleous moved Xigshaw into a fighting position.

The weight of the man on the end of her newly acquired axe sunk and got heavy as he passed. She put her foot to his body, and worked his form off of the blade of it, and as she went to move at the one whom she punched, she was there watching him already begin to flee. He got out of it pretty light, with only a cut to his cheek, and it would barely leave a scar with how shallow it dug. Taking the time to look at Xeldine, watching as she fought and saw how she won that fight, Marle had kind of doubted that end result, but she was pleased to see it. Since things had drastically died down for the two girls, the General began wiping the blood off her weapons, and slid the axe's haft into the sling meant for her lance on her back, but keeping the longer weapon in hand.
"Good job, lets meet back up with your friend. Things seemed to have gotten interesting up there."
Without waiting for a reaction, as she came in closer, the lady knight watched on as the two seemed to have gotten into a fight all on their own. She had heard the leader of these brigands call for a...what was this, a duel? How stupid. Marle could only cross her arms and observe now, being forced to watch this play out. It seemed that the other men who would attack them, seemed to go by their leader's advice of taking him solo, atleast they were loyal, what an admirable trait in a group of men who so far from being admirable.
Looking over her shoulders, she could see Xeldine eventually catching up, but the knight was...she was a bit pissed. This was a stupid way to do things. They could have taken them all. She had fought harder battles than this. Taking off her helmet, and tucking it under arm eventually, letting her light brown hair fall down, Marle clicked her tongue to her obvious annoyance.
"Hurry this up! He isn't so tough."

"Hurry this up! He isn't so tough.", spoke a voice from behind Orcleous as the brigand charged. The Hero wanted to turn around and look, but he knew who said it and why. Orcleous was sure the man would not prove that much of a challenge, but he was not going to let his guard down. He had killed many a unwary bandit who let there guard down against him just because he looked weaker than them. Still with Orcleous wielded Xigshaw the man really did not stand a chance in the strength department. However and lucky for him, strength was not the only factor that determined the winner of a duel. Orcleous would have to watch out for his speed as well, which could prove a problem thanks to Xigshaw's bulky build.
The man rushed forward and swung his axe horizontally. His strike was aimed to cut Orcleous under his rib cage, but it was clear that he had no intention for this attack to strike. It was simply a opener move. He expected Orcleous to give ground or try to block it, or whatever. The main point was the strike was a test and Orcleous knew that. As the swing came in Orcleous jumped backwards. The power flowing through his body from Xigshaw was more than enough to all how to jump back a few feet while holding the hammer. This was actually Orcleous final warning to the man. Anyone looking at the situation could tell that the Hero was doing a feat far greater than what should normally be possible, and yet the brigand persisted.
"What is wrong scared of my axe", he spoke as he gave a crude smile toward the hero. His men around him gave a cheer as they encouraged there leader on. Orcleous however simply looked at the man. He was a fool, thought the Hero as he pulled back on his weapon and took a ready position. His eyes focused on the man and his muscle twisted and contracted ready to send his weapon forward to end the engagement.
Orcleous lack of response told the Bandit all he needed to know. He knew that The Hero was no longer playing around and that he was planning some kind of big attack. His stance told of his swing and the path his axe would follow. It was all to easy in the brigand's mind as he watched Orcleous. By looking at the size of the hammer and what he did before the bandit guessed how fast Orcleous could swing the thing. Getting a fix speed in his mind the brigand began to walk up to Orcleous just staying outside of his swing range. Slowly bit by bit he inched toward Orcleous testing the range of The Hero. After a bit though he crossed the mark that he was sure that Orcleous could not make.
"I got you know", he shouted as he took a strong step forward ready to rush in and attack with his smaller axe. Orcleous however saw this coming. As the man took his hard step to come in Orcleous took his own step forward to expedite his attack. Switching his body and pulling the weapon from his right side Orcleous brought Xigshaw from over his head. The attack switching motion of shifting his arm from the side to around his back to swing the hammer down left him open for a moment, but the Hero had panned this to happen just as the bandit was drawing up for his attack.
"See you in hell", spoke Orcleous as he pulled down the hammer with all of his might. The mighty axe cut through the air like a arrow as he brought it down toward the Bandit. The Bandit leader already inside of a attack of his own was unable to dodge the rapidly descending hammer. His only saving grace was to kill Orcleous with his strike before the hammer hit, thought his doom was already written on paper. Even if he was able to some how kill Orcleous the weight of the hammer would still bring it down and his bones would be crushed. At the moment thought that was not on his mind, not the mind of his men. It was simply kill or be killed.
Everything happened in a flash. For the two of them it seemed like a eternity. For everyone else outside it was rather quick. Orcleous had jumped back and held his axe to the side. As the leader moved into attack He shifted his arms and brought the hammer down from above. The bandit's axe struck first. The bladed weapon slammed into the shaft of Xigshaw as Orcleous downward swing invaded the attack range of battle axe. Following the clash of steel the full might of Xigshaw came down on the man. The blow smashed him like a hammer and a egg. Crimson stained the grass and a shocked expression filled the face of the bandits as they looked on. There was no question, there boss was dead, and the hero still kicking.
"Crap", spoke a very ugly member of the bandit crew. He and the rest of his boy's lost the will to fight and began to flee. Orcleous however ignored them. He was not getting paid or in the mood to hunt them down and he had far better things to take care of. "Sorry about the wait", spoke the Hero as he walked over to his heavily armored friend. Orcloeus restrapped Xigshaw to his back as he looked at his apprentice. she was covered in dirt and had a look he knew all to well from his youth. "Keep practicing", spoke Orcleous as he looked at her. He then walked over to the bits of the iron sword on the ground and picked them up. These little bits and pieces could be reforged, thought the Hero as he placed the fragments into a side bag. Orcleous had that sword for a very long time. Even after he gave it to his apprentice he still wanted to keep it around. It was in fact the very first blade he ever wielded. There was no way he was going to leave it here on the plains to rust and rot.
"So did they give you all any trouble", spoke Orcleous as he turned around and rejoined the group.

Marle would only watch now in silence. It was a quick battle, but the way it ended made Marle cringe. That thing, that weapon was awesome. There was few other words, but she still didn't like it. It changed how things should be, gave the weak strength they did not deserve, in her eyes. Not to say that Orcleous was weak, but the weapon in the hands of someone whom it chose worthy, if they were an evil doer, would greatly upset things as they were. Storing those thoughts away, Marle instead took to watching the men flee. Their source of morale and leadership gone, the wolves had turned into mere dogs. How sad it was, even for bandits. She had seen braver men do the same thing, it was just human nature. Looking back to the dark skinned man, Marle just gave a little shrug of her shoulders.
"Barely. Got a new axe though."
Marle lifted the bearded axe up and just gave a grin. This was something new she just started doing. The dead had no need for their weapons, right? She was of discerning taste of course. She wouldn't just take any old thing, but this weapon seemed too good to leave in the care of a dead man. She was already starting to look around at the other bodies in the area, and could only frown at what she saw. Nothing really of use. Looking at the sight of that bow on the ground, well, it was no wonder the man could barely hit anything. he could be the most trained man in the world to use a bow, but with warped wood, it was amazing it even fired.
"I had wished for more of a fight, it was actually over quite quick. I suppose it's for the best, we did want to make it to Bern before nightfall."
With a gentle shrug, Marle would head back to where her pack animal was ahead of the two. Collecting her shield along the way, but actually struggling to pull the axe out of it beforehand. The shield wasn't as strong as her armor was, so it gave a false sense that if she lost her shield, she would be easily felled. It was a simple rouse that often worked. With shield and donkey, she made her way back to the other two, and just gave a playful grin.
"Well, lets get going!"

OCC: Sorry about the late response, class and new online class had me scrambling for time, that and other obligations
"Hopefully the bandits further in Bern have the same mentality as these. It is a boomer to have them flee in terror, but it works in the advantage of travelers if they ever ran into them. Kill the head and you don't have to worry about clean up. Still", spoke Orcleous as he reattached Xigshaw to his back. "It would have been better if we had simply finished them all off." Leaving the fight and the brigand's behind Orcleous turned his attention back to the road. They where not too far from were the guard post was suppose to be, which is why this attack came as a surprise to Orcleous. Still, bandits are bandits. They probably memorized the guardsmen patrol patterns and set there raids just outside of there range of response. It seemed like the logical way of doing it, but Orcleous could not always understand brigands. Sometimes he can get them and others they make no sense. Many of times he asked himself why did they not just break the bridge or shoot arrows down from a cliff, or wear armor for that matter, but the mind of the people taking up the profession did not match with his own. They all seemed more desperate than anything.
The rest of the walk was, uneventful. Orcleous argued with his apprentice a bit and made a few comments about the area. Other than that there where no bandits, no zombies, no demon wolves, and not even a single mercenary out to prove how strong he was. The boarder guard had to be doing a good job, or the brigands had killed off all of there competition. Either way the trio reached the check in with no real resistance. As Orcleous arrived at the garrison he showed his pass as a mercenary and the symbol of his home village. While one ace as good Orcleous preferred to have two of them.

Marle would only shrug at that comment. It didn't mind her if the bandits were stupid enough to throw their lives away against stronger opponents. If one couldn't gauge their abilities, and were blinded by ego, it just made the world easier in that circumstance. That thought made her grin, as she felt satisfaction over cleaning the world of the filth they had just dispatched. Letting those gemstone like eyes linger for a moment, perhaps it would have been best to finish the rest of them off, well, no, it would have been best, but Marle didn't feel like chasing down a group of scared grown men, that would have just been plain dumb.
"Yeah, probably, but maybe they'll tell their friends, perhaps reform their ways, or even come back for revenge. I hope they choose the former."
Part of her hoped for that, at least. She hadn't really used her lance in some time, it was good to feel the weight and the way it felt to use. She used to hate fighting...now she almost longed for it. Time was strange like that. For what seemed like the rest of the trip to Bern felt...quiet. She didn't know what more to talk about, bragging about killing people was never an appropriate topic, it felt dirty. She was okay to travel in silence now, they had pretty much got to their destination. When at the checkpoint garrison, she procured her identity, written papers from Edessa. They seemed to eye her strangely, it did say she was from Ilia, but it was saying she was a mercenary. Mercenaries in such armour as hers was...not a common thing, but she just stared at them until they eventually returned her papers and let her through. With arms outstretched, Marle gave Orc a look of curiosity, then to Xeldine.
"So, I suppose this is where we split ways?"
