"Its simple you both lost." The captain said though a grin. Both Gar and Cynthia were speechless. Muttering was heard throughout the crowd and Gar had a couple questions running through his mind. The captain stood to silence the chatter and demand attention. "Seeing as you both lost, Pea here will be my first mate." The captain patted pea so hard on the back that he almost choked on his drink. Surprise filled Pea's eyes after he regained his composure. "Wait really? Alright awesome." Pea's supporters in the crowd began to cheer and dance. Soon enough the whole crew was celebrating and congratulating the new first mate. It wasn't long before the crew had forgotten how close Cynthia and Gar were to being first mates. Gar slumped in his chair and sighed. "Orders are orders I guess." The pirate was visibly upset with the outcome of the game.
Cynthia stood up and beckoned for Gar to follow. "Let's not bring down the mood. We should head out." A mopey Gar nodded and followed Cynthia out of the room and up to the deck above. A night sky was surprisingly well lit by the moon and stars. The mist that was once in the air must have been blown away. This was relieving because it meant the wind had returned. Gar was comforted by the fact that he wouldn't have to remain on the ship any longer than he needed to. "So have you picked where you want to get marooned yet?" Gar shook his head. "I haven't put much thought to it. I guess I never thought the time would come. How about yourself?"
Cynthia placed her elbows on the guardrail that lined the side of the ship and turned her head to the skies. "I have this idea. I'm going to open up a new kind of gym." As she spoke, light from the stars reflected off of her face in a serene manner. The sight comforted Gar further. She's so calm and collected even in defeat. It's remarkable. I should strive to be more like her. Gar, with redoubled respect for his once rival, leaned his back against the side rail and listened intently to Cynthia's idea. "It will focus on training both the body with martial arts, and the spirit with dancing." Gar chuckled thinking back on the competition. "Hahar I'm certain I could stand to take a couple classes. Your skills are amazing." Cynthia accepted the compliment with grace. "Thank you. You certainly have a well rounded skill set yourself." Gar nodded in agreement he opened his mouth to speak of his next possible venture but got interrupted by two figures rising from below deck. Gar quickly new it was the captain and the new first mate.
"I knew I'd find you two together somewhere." Gar rolled his eyes and shook his head. He and Pea clasped hands. "Haha congratulations first mate." Cynthia turned to face the two and nodded her agreement. "Yes I'm happy for you." The captain cleared her throat to speak.
"You may believe what I did was foolish, but there is reasoning behind it. You two are going to go on to do grand things. I expect you will become very powerful in time so I am giving you the opportunity to grow and gain experience. As opposed to sitting here stagnant, dead in the water. " Gar smirked, blushed and averted his eyes. Clearly his captain thought highly of him. Thank you. "Perhaps one day you will be very powerful allies for me and my crew here. So don't actually expect us to pick you up in a month. Maybe in a few years, but you won't be subordinates, well be equals."
Gar nodded and grinned. "Fine with me, but I bet I'll be a powerful ally for you in much less than a few years." Cynthia laughed. "Finally, a bet you can actually win."
